A Podcast About The Pensieve (Harry Potter)
3717
The Pensieve is one of the few objects of immense power within the world of Harry Potter to not have a full-fledged history behind it. Well, Kalvin and Nick came to the conclusion that this couldn’t stand, so we decided to dive into the Pensieve and figure it out for ourselves! Throughout the story of the Boy Who Lived, the Pensieve was incredibly significant just a few times, but when it did come into play you knew something was going down. With little to no background we set our eye on this shallow bowl (don’t s*%t in it), the memory capabilities it holds, how and if it would be useful in the real world, and whether or not you want John Madden or Mike Tyson to narrate your memories. Would you get lost in the past? What memories would be worth saving? Do you share the thing?! Let us know if you’d use a Pensieve and what you would use it for on Twitter @APASomething and @alone_podcast and receive a shoutout on the next episode! A Podcast About the 2020 NBA Bubble
4387
These are unique times we live in, and out of necessity, we as a society have had to adapt, including the players in the NBA and the organization as a whole. The NBA Bubble is just that, an adaptation by the NBA to protect the bottom line and Kalvin and Nick are here to talk all about it! With a shortened season and mainlined playoff system, tensions are high, and with contempt for the bubble growing we wanted to find out if it has all even been worth it, where it stands among other major sports bubbles, who the darlings (and the dunces) of the bubble have been, and how the rest of the season will play out. We also predict who will win the ‘chip and we’re dying to know your pick to take the crown of the 2020 NBA Bubble season on Twitter @APASomething and @alone_podcast! A Podcast About Video Game Movie Superlatives
4655
Video game adaptations have a long and storied history of being, to out it lightly, completely terrible. Don't fear though, Kalvin and Nick are here this week dig through the bargain bin full of failed Video Game movie franchises to find some semblance of something good. We give our best shot at giving out our patented Movie Superlatives for categories like Best Character Adaptation, Best Final Boss, and more as we search for light in the darkness. We also discuss why it's so hard to get Video Game movies right. Is it an issue with storytelling or are video game fans' expectations just too unrealistic to meet? A Podcast About Crazy Nature
4675
There is an unsettling realization that many human beings make at some point in their lives, and that is nature is f*&#$ng “metal” and we don’t stand much of a chance! Kalvin and Nick are diving into the most “metal” animals, plants, and places nature has to offer (in our opinions). Whether the places are the most inhospitable, or the animals will take your arm off in a heartbeat thanks to an evolutionary trait, or even ‘rocket’ theirs at you, we cover all aspects of why nature can be just so f&*$^@#ng “metal” and what we think about it. We take it one step further and rate just how “metal” they are with thanks to the “metal” meter loaned out by @HMPopcornpod! A Podcast About Dunder Mifflin's Management (The Office)
6664

Dunder Mifflin is undoubtedly one of the least successful fictional companies to have ever existed, but it may have one of the most diverse and entertaining management structures in all of television. If you hadn’t guessed, Kalvin and Nick return to one of our favorite universes to delve into one of the most fascinating facets of Dunder Mifflin, The Management Structure and those who hold management positions! We analyze the personality, work history, management style, employability, and more of each employee that could call him or herself manager during The Office’s run. From the fluid and serious CFO, David Wallace all the way down to the man who only held the Regional Manager position for an hour, Kevin Malone. How did a wunderkind like Ryan fall so hard? Or how did powerhouse woman Jan claw near the top? We’re here to give you the rundown you never knew you needed of the who’s who of Dunder Mifflin. A Podcast About Selective Listening - Loser - Beck
3306
I’m a loser babbbbyyyy so why don’t you kill meeeeee. Everyone knows the line, whether it’s from the standard ‘rock’ station in your car or the background of a movie. You may have thought while the artist waxes poetic about wax and termites, “wtf is this jabroni talking about”?” Well you're in luck as Kalvin and Nick dissect Loser by Beck, line by line, in this edition of Selective Listening! Painfully random but tongue in cheek sums up this stalwart of the 90s and we aim to figure out just what the hell fueled this Norwegian(???) drug induced nonsense! Can we take it at face value? Or is there more hiding under the forced irony of each line? We aim to find out, while also establishing if we even like the song and how it maintains popularity today. If you like this song let us know why on Twitter @APASomething and @alone_podcast, and while you're at it let us know what you think the message of this song from the folk/flunk/rap/buttrock ‘legend’ that is Beck is. A Podcast About Disney Movie Superlatives
5518
Let it go, let it gooooooooo! No, we’re not going to break into song, but we are back to let go of our made up awards for this month's Disney Animated Movie Superlatives! Kalvin and Nick cast their votes, along with a healthy dose of our friends from Twitter, for Disney Movie awards broken down into five categories! Disney movies all share some themes in common like love stories, villains, helpful sidekicks, adventurous plots, and more. Of course it makes the decisions a little tougher with such a range of great animated films to choose from. With plenty of extra discussions and a visit from two bona-fide, Disney experts, there's something for every Disney fan in this episode. A Podcast About The Jejune Institute/Dispatches From Elsewhere
5352
Welcome to the Jejune Institute, a purveyor of divine nonchalance as well as many other oddities and the mortal enemy of the Elsewhere Society. Will you, like countless others (including Kalvin and Nick), fall down the rabbit hole of this Alternate Reality Game that popped up from elsewhere in San Francisco in 2008 and disappeared in 2011 after inducting 10,000 people? Is it a cult, or something more. We dive into the Institute, a 2013 documentary based on the 2008 Alternate Reality Game and the inspiration for AMC’s Dispatches from Elsewhere, and what made it so enthralling that people became “indoctrinated” and some even forgot where the game ends and reality begins. The evil Octavio Coleman, Esq and the exuberant Commander 14 will guide the search for Eva, a mysterious missing girl, as we decode The Dispatches from Elsewhere. Who doesn’t love vampires, lycans, stinky sewn together dudes, invisible creeps, and more causing mayhem? No, Kalvin and Nick aren’t here to talk any old stable of monsters, but the Classics! We wind our way through the long history that comprises the Classic Monster scene, from the monster of Frankenstein to the Creature of the Black Lagoon and what makes them so endearing. With dozens of iterations, which ones are the best or most lethal? How did they come to be? And most importantly, how do you stop them? We dive into these subjects and more; while also establishing the thread that connects them all and the primal motivation that drives them forward. A Podcast About the Malice at the Palace
3811
“Oh my God he’s going into the stands!!” Some of the most famous words ever spoken during a sports brawl (or really just sports in general), leading to one of the most infamous brawls in sports history: The Malice at the Palace. At a time when the NBA was a little more hard-nosed and fights were more common, the nation was shocked on the evening of November 19th, 2004 when a certain someone threw a cup of beer at a player, and the rest, as they say, is history. This week Kalvin and Nick are back to discuss an epic moment in sports history that had reverberations that spread throughout the rest of the NBA and continue to affect the game today. We dive into the twists and turns of an infamous series of events that spanned only a few minutes, but to the players and fans, both present and at home felt like an eternity. Harsh punishments were handed out, punches were thrown, players were doused in beer, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Don’t forget to stay tuned for a bonus preview episode of the 2020 NBA All-Star contest on the heels of this episode, and while you’re at it join the discussion on Twitter @APASomething and @alone_podcast and let us know what you think about the Malice at the Palace, and if you remember where you were when history was made! In this episode, I finally unveil the Costanza Theory on getting engaged and what you should do if you're planning on getting engaged as well as a theory on why Jerry didn't kill Miss Rhode Island's doves. We had a great and long discussion of the entire relationship so much so that we had to split it into two parts so it's easier to consume.
