3 Steps to Conquer Stress
1677

One of the key processes that has helped me deal with anxiety and stress in life has been popping up in nearly every interview I've done lately (some yet to be released-- our editors are working on those!). It's this idea that if you focus on only the things that are within your sphere of influence, most of that anxiety and stress melts away. It's related to getting present. What is actually happening right here and right now?

We dive into that topic and I share some examples of how this has played out in big ways for me in my own life.

Conscience Consumption and Creation with Simone Salis
2212

Simone Salis was born in Rome and worked for Comedy Central Italy as late night show correspondent, host and writer for public radio, voice actor (Japanese anime), and pizza delivery guy (with moped). He currently has a real job (his words) while focusing on personal projects like the his podcast  with interesting guests from places like Pixar, Google, and The Second City and his blog.

This episode was recorded about a year ago while Simone was working in some different directions with his podcast. Most of the content is still relevant so I hated having it sitting on my hard drive. Even though a little bit of the specifics in the conversation about what my show is called and what he is currently working on have become outdated, I think you'll still enjoy this insightful and fun conversation about conscience consumption and creation.

The Voice in Your Head IS AN IMPOSTER!
658

Who are you?

I don't mean the collection of things you identify as. The traits and experiences you tell others to describe yourself. Who is actually in there making those decisions and telling those stories?

An interesting concept is that the voice in your head-- that internal monologue most of us have constantly rambling on-- is not you. It's a part of you... but it's not you.

We'll discuss this for the whole episode with some concepts about how to conceptualize this AND why it is helpful for your mental wellness.

Improve Motivation By Breaking These Small Addictions
658

We all have addictions. Small habit loops that suck us into social media or watching videos for longer than we expected. Did you know these little things could be having a massive effect on your motivation and overall sense of wellbeing?

This episode talks mostly about recognizing some of these small addictions that most of us have. It's also about a practical way to reset those behaviors to a healthy level.

The term "Dopamine Fast" is a bit misleading, but that's what the internet is calling it. The idea is that "fasting" or cutting out some behaviors completely for a short period of time can help reset the systems those behaviors are effecting in the brain.

Here's a great, in-depth article on the subject if you want to do some further reading:

Climbing Out of the Pit of Depression
1203

Depression can dig someone deeper and deeper into a pit of despair and deprive you of your energy, hope, and drive. The tricky part of depression is that it attacks the very things that would help you get better.

We haven't had a new episode in about a month. That is because I've been dealing with a particularly deep and extended bout of depression. This episode talks about what I learned from this one and the coping mechanisms I've learned over the years to climb out of the pit. Even if it has to be one grasp at a time.

The Future of Happy You Are Here (Yes, there is a future!)

Hey everyone! If you haven’t checked out all the episodes we already published, I HIGHLY suggest you go back and listen to those. The feedback from those episodes have been amazing. About 200 people have been reached so far, but most of you have only listened to one or two episodes. I had to take some time to focus on my businesses without getting burned out. I’m still in that stage, but my plan for next year is to make Happy You Are Here full of high-quality, very well researched and edited videos & audio. So look forward to that at some point. Increase Sense of Love and Wellbeing Through This Meditation & Journalling Practice
657

Are you familiar with the term Mettā (Loving kindness)?

The last few mornings I have incorporated this into my morning meditation and it always triggers such an expansive, open, joyful feeling of love. I cry too. Every time 😂. It’s somewhat tears of joy, but there’s a bittersweet feeling to it. They are also compassionate tears for those suffering all over the world and those suffer that I know personally.

Even with that tinge of sadness, it feels amazing to feel so deeply every morning. It then carries through the whole day. There is a deep sense of caring for every person that crosses my path.

Learn To Recognize Thought Loops
693

Thought loops can be a powerful detriment to your mental health OR a powerful tool. These are patterns or "programs" that the brain runs semi-automatically. They can be particularly insidious if they are negative and feedback into themselves causing infinite loops of negative thinking.

In this episode of Happy You Are here Podcast, we'll discuss how to recognize those thought loops and give some examples of positive thought loops you can try to replace the negative ones with.

Who Are You Surrounding Yourself With? It Matters.
652

Who are you surrounding yourself with?

Are these people you want to be more like?

This is something I’ve become more aware of in the past year. The people you surround yourself with is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT‼ You can still love and care about people while giving yourself some distance.

Doug Bopst has a great quote that is more-or-less: “Spend time with people that have COMMON FUTURES, not common pasts.” 🔥🔥

That’s a paradigm shift for most of us.  This is true online and offline.

So who are you following? Who are you hanging out with? What ideas are you letting slip into your unconscious mind?

How to Develop Self-Awareness - Meditation
517

The way you've had meditation described to you is wrong. Whoever started saying the goal of meditation is to clear your mind is completely full of it.

That's just not how it works at all. Let's talk about it.

So we've covered Infomation Diet, Gratitude and minimizing complaining, and taking care of your physical health. This episode is on meditation.

I'm really into a bunch of different types of meditation. There are literally hundreds. BUT in regards to basic mental fortitude and sense of wellbeing, there's one relatively simple type of meditation we're going to focus on. That is mindfulness meditation.

Physical Health Affects Mental Health
651

We discuss my least favorite thing that is also one of the most effective ways of boosting mood, mental clarity, and general wellbeing: a healthy diet and exercise.

Link Between Physical Health & Mental Health: https://hside.org/link-between-physical-and-mental-health/

1. The first one to adjust is food. The other two are going to feed-- ha, pun-- off what you eat.

2. Once you do that, get your sleep cycle in check.

3. Finally, Physical Activity.

How to Be More Positive
581

We're going to get you to stop being so negative... not for anyone else's sake but for your own. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take this to heart. Seriously sink into this one.

If you're stuck in this rut of complaining all the time-- and we'll talk about reprogramming your brain in more detail later on-- then you're pushing people away. You probably never chose this state, but circumstances in a life built up these default pathways in your brain to look for the problem in everything and everyone.

It's a miserable life to live. I'm sorry if this is you. Not only is it miserable for you, but everyone you're around. It's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you find yourself saying, everyone leaves and nobody likes to be around you... maybe it's because you push them away with your incessant negativity.

I'm not saying it's your fault that you got to this point. But from this point on, it's your fault if you continue to live in a state of constant negativity.

Let's get started digging into this a little deeper.

Stop Being Brainwashed! How to Deal with Modern Information Overload
649

How significant is information overload and what you can do about it? Our brains do take in a LOT of information daily. There are two problems with this: 1. We're inherently bad at assessing the quality of information we are presented with. 2. Our brains need downtime. In this episode, we'll discuss how to manage this modern information overload problem with practical techniques like the information diet.
