Episode Date
CV Central - 4/3/2020 - "China and the United States - A Complicated Situation"
02:54:40

Episode 45 delves deeply into China, their response, and the evolving competition with the United States.  We start by looking at Latin America coming into crisis, promising a rising death toll and infection in countries from Mexico to Chile, peeking at Ecuador here.  We see nearly 7 million Americans now out of work as backdrop.  From there, we see the CIA reporting now that the CCP fudged the numbers.  China is friendly to some with new propaganda outlets and offers of masks to Italy and the UK, but won't even allow Taiwan to get near the WHO as they buzz them with war planes.  We look at the doctrine, how China continues to spend to gain influence, what 5G allows for standards and surveillance and ask as America gets sicker and withdraws, including with two aircraft carriers, what will China do?  Whether by chance or choice, the opportunities for the dragon seem to be rising in this year of the rat.

CV Central - 4/2/2020 - "Who else dies, cats as spreaders, and ventilator support issues"
02:07:21

Here in Episode 44, we look more deeply into the two to three times normal death rate of people who are passing beyond annual averages in Lombardy of whom only a third are being attributed to Covid.  A new study suggests ferrets and cats may carry the coronavirus, including the possibility cats exhale the virus.  Even with more ventilators coming online, shortages in doctors, drugs, and oxygen represent new problems, as nurses are more actively protesting being asked to work absent PPE.  Canada says to expect this until July, at best, as the Netherlands starts studying when herd immunity may come.  Food banks are seeing 40x their usage in Orange County, CA and we have only seen one in a thousand, if that, exposed as the crisis deepens.

CV Central - 4/1/2020 - "Neurological invasion, silencing of physicians, and an attitudinal shift"
02:40:58

Episode 43 starts with a troubling case of a woman from Detroit who suffered acute hemorrhagic necrotizing encephalopathy - or a bleeding brain - apparently related to Covid and the cytokine storm problem.  We look at a study from Los Angeles that showed only 5% of the suspected influenza patients had Covid, meaning both coronavirus spread is in the community there but also still likely has many more people to reach foreshadowing a longer interval.  That's bad news for doctors being silenced and fired for talking about a lack of PPE leading to situations like Boston and Spain where mass staff infection is becoming common.  In NY, the situation is seeing mass graves being predug by prisoners.  All this is happening as we see people under extreme psychological and economic stress and with a leadership vacuum in taking the fight to the virus promising instability and wilder days ahead.

CV Central - 3/31/2020 - "Spread Through Conversation, Growing Unrest, Under Reporting Fatalities"
02:43:19

We seek the ultimate questions in Episode 42 as some of your inquiries are answered with the latest research.  We look at how not just cases, but deaths are likely being under reported especially as places with taxed medical systems make the decision to exclude high risk low survivability patients, substantiated by proving fatality numbers versus annual averages and Covid official casualty counts that are substantially beneath this discrepancy.  We learn that infants seem not to carry the coronavirus, although most had antibodies.  Japanese researchers show how microparticles could spread Covid in many more places with video that will astound.  In light of this, we see Austria's decision to mandate masks outside as sensible, as those places without protection get ill more quickly.  On the economic front, we see strikes and worker unrest building at Amazon, Whole Foods, in meatpacking and agriculture.  Tenants are planning not to pay, and Sicilians working under the table are now stealing their groceries.  Tensions build as the government response helps some but not all, and with restrictions likely until June as promoted in Virginia, the future will be a challenge.  Lastly, Brazil prepares as they see the virus is mutating there and a long fight is ahead.

CV Central - 3/30/2020 - "Immune Overreaction, Months not Weeks, and Detroit"
02:25:53

We begin our eighth week of coronavirus coverage with Episode 41 as we look to answer questions.  Exploring the confused immune response and cytokine storm effects may explain why certain people get more ill including critically so, offering new avenues for medical intervention.  We discuss the high mortality rate and the problems of ventilators.  Countries around the globe push back the timeframe as we see an unusually high unattributed number of dead people emerge from Wuhan questioning those numbers one urn at a time.  Italy sees the curve flatten but the pressure continue as some looting happens in Sicily.  New York has food banks under pressure as new hospitals arise.  But what is happening in NYC is spreading throughout America as we look at both small towns and a Midwestern city in Detroit to show just how fast Covid takes root once in a given area.

CV Central - 3/27/2020 - "What Covid means for the human economy, key fault lines revealed"
02:17:40

The fortieth episode looks at the second part of the health equation which is to delve into why the economic problem is so bad.  After a quick review of drug shortages, an exploration of a different pathway by which the coronavirus is harming people, and a glance into Russia getting sick and Italy having dead whose numbers are rising sharply in one town without an attributed reason, we look at the pending policy bill.  A pork-laden monstrosity that is conceived reactively as just another response in an unending line of new debts, it fails to solve the basic question of how to keep people whole and stop people from moving for a time sufficient to stamp out Covid.  The rush to satisfy debt versus public health means a bill not so concerned with ventilators, PPE, and medical support as it is inadequate loans, heavy bureaucracies, and promising a bigger problem later for many people.  We see 3.3 million Americans unemployed this week as the first harbinger of many more to come.  Inability to pay rent, then to pay mortgages, and then to pay lenders comes forward as small businesses shutter.  How does agriculture hold up especially with a severely at risk population for both spread and contamination in close quarters outside legal status still out there?  Absent these answers, we see truckers avoiding NYC, people in northern Michigan telling city folks to stay home, and Texas now quarantining people coming from hot spots being quarantined or heavily fined and incarcerated.  All this in a battle between finance, debt, and control, with economy, assets, and scarcity on the other side as people make rational health decisions toward safety, something our government seems to struggle on all sides to understand.

CV Central - 3/26/2020 - "NYC in Grave Detail, Ethics of Death Panels, Tipping Point"
02:59:59

Episode 39 is the first part of an exploration about the dangers America faces and what we realistically should respect from this virus.  After a quick update in which it appears reinfection is less likely as good news but mutation more aggressive as bad news, we go into the action in New York's hospitals where life and death scenes are playing out right now as supply is being overwhelmed.  The stark relief comes into focus with two pieces by the New England Journal of Medicine that consider rationing of care, and ventilator protocols as what some will call triage and others will brand death panels because of our inaction.  We see morgue capacity now in question, officers calling off sick, and doctor breaking down as garbage bags are being used to supplement PPE.  This crisis may go on for many months, be a season event, and we look starkly at the potential of event that without much better action that seems improbable from not just policy makers, but our businesses and our people, where Americans are chancing a death toll into the millions by summer's end.  Tomorrow's second part will go into the equally troubling economic and survival implications of a society entering plague with disparity, distrust, and despair.

CV Central - 3/25/2020 - "The False Calm, Key Vulnerabilities, and How the Banks are Gaming Us"
02:29:35

Episode 38 goes for a wider and deeper cut into the virus.  We check in with New York where the hospital system is now under deep stress, in the quickly expanding Atlanta cluster, see LA cutting off power to those businesses who stay open, and we look into how China lost many cell phone users as another hint something worse happened.  People flee from the cities to the country to cold receptions as countries begin shutting down trade and exports for their own domestic need.  The military has begun ramping up support operations with hospitals and doctors incoming.  Amidst all this, we look at DC disconnected with a so-called coronavirus support plan that basically promises 4% to the American people, 29% to corporate interests, and 67% to the banks who are being permitted to make unlimited loans with free money while we are told to work in these dangerous conditions.  This widening gap between finance and economy, between currency and value, is at the heart of what might cause a situation worse than 1929 and as we see spot gold rise while gold contracts plummet, we look critically at what people say they are doing versus what they are actually doing as too many shift the emphasis from the virus and health to their own cynical ends.

CV Central - 3/24/2020 - "America Sold Out, Risk Factor Considered, and Europe Grappling"
01:52:06

Episode 37 begins with a scathing critique of how America's determination to put finance, not economics, ahead of science and health is going to lead to this country experiencing the worst of all worlds with the utterly inadequate response by both the Executive and Legislative branches where it is increasingly clear everything but Covid is their priority.  We present a compelling case from Johns Hopkins as to why the science is bad and use an article about the peril to commercial mortgages with echoes of 2008 to hint at what is really going on in America.  In science updates, we have news about the increased risk about diabetics and hypertension, more details about how aggressively the coronavirus obliterates the nervous system, and information surface contamination may be longer in certain environments.  A tour through Europe and Australia shows how countries are being rewarded for more effective and immediate responses, as we see Italy trying to flatten the curve as Spain suffers from wider dispersal, the French deal with people ignoring social distancing measures, and the Germans testing early, often, and getting prepared.  The UK now has moved into lockdown, hoping to blunt the problem, and Australia is on the same page as the explosion has now hit down under.

02:43:10

Episode 36 starts a new week with more stories about the terrible symptoms of this disease as well as a report all may not be well in Wuhan.  Italy can't even count their dead and now Covid-19 is everywhere in Canada.  New York features as the center of this outbreak with 5% of global current cases and we see the struggle to keep going as one surgeon at NY Presbyterian Hospital reports that can't meet the coming demand.  Medical imports are lagging, chloroquine is running out, and the search for PPE is becoming critical as the CDC is telling nurses to wear bandanas if all else fails.  We look into the quarantine letters about essential businesses and see that as an effort to keep people out, but at what expense to the virus fighting effort as many people in Seattle choose to ignore stay at home orders.  As DC fights over a pork laden bill, we look at the debt balloon, the question of inflation, and listen to the Fed warn nearly 1/3 of people may lose their job and half our GDP may also be lost.  We look at three ways to deal with that:  Resetting the debt, sending in the military, or trying to limp through, admitting there is no perfect solution to a pandemic running roughshod.

CV Central - 3/20/2020 - "A Drug for Severe Cases, Privacy Issues, and States on the Move"
01:55:58

Some positive news starts Episode 35 as we report on a new blood test for Covid antibodies which might open up the opportunity for rapidly expanded onsite testing.  We also found a study from China which reports that Tocilizumab is a drug which helped patients in severe distress recover lymphocytes and improve blood oxygen saturation, a chance to reduce the ventilator shortage.  The government is working with social media to gain information even as suppression efforts continue, including more analysis of the leaked US Health and Human Services report where they anticipate supply shortages for the next 18 months or longer.  The Trump Administration appears to be contemplated a ban on domestic air travel, shutting down the stock market, and asking people to stay in place.  However, the existing bill before Congress slowly working forward is not adequate to meet the needs of many people to accomplish such a quarantine meaning absent much improved medical intervention, the spread will likely hasten.  Reports from California, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania all show the acceleration of the coronavirus and slowing of the economy.  While government thinks small, people come up big as 3D printers help keep people safe and alive in both New York and Italy, showing the value of open source community based action.

For Episode 34, we start with a reminder that younger people can and do get sick, die, and use valuable resources when they don't separate themselves from the Covid-19 outbreak.  London is moving toward lockdown as the United States sees a report leak that claims they see the crisis as being 18 months or longer, perhaps informed by the Imperial College study and the time to vaccine with multiple waves.  Amazon now has a warehouse worker sick and a personal anecdote about food scarcity serve as warning for potential shortages ahead.  We look first at nursing homes where people are getting sick from hospital visits or other sources, but also at prisons and the complex situation there.  To prevent virus spread, nonviolent offenders are being released before riots happen, but will they have access to resources, cause disruptions, and how will law enforcement react and will it continue showing up?  Big questions and few answers, but situations we need to watch.  JP Morgan sees our economy shrinking by 14% next quarter already, and oil is tumbling further - what will last and how you can prepare are what we look at in this challenging episode.

For our thirty-third episode, we start by noting that Facebook is now blocking legitimate stories which they attribute to a "bug" as the WHO and partners invest more energy into controlling information than fighting the outbreak.  We share a new study that suggests children can still be at risk, though thankfully less than adults, as we also report from the Dutch that many young seemingly healthy people are in severe distress from Covid.  The hope is people will change their behaviors as New York is perched on the verge of a major shutdown that we see happening now in Switzerland.  We look at the problems of renters, unemployed, and those needing resources as a bipartisan consensus forms around debt suspension or forgiveness and the direct payment of income to all adult Americans to get through this crisis so people won't have to go out.  As that lurches forward, we see Texas getting prepared with better decisions about public events, but shortfalls in supply.  Louisiana is also coming under the gun post Mardi Gras, and while Florida has begun shutting down some bars and restaurants, partially, the Sunshine State continues to lag.  Lastly, a new drug for fighting flu in Japan is having some positive impacts so we talk about favipiravir (Avigan) as another tool in the arsenal.

A deeper look into how these lockdowns will function and what purpose they serve is the focus of Episode 32.  After more harrowing evidence from Italy, we look deeply into why you don't want to treat Covid with ibuprofen for the early fever and a dive into the T-cells suggests that afflicted immune response is at the heart of case severity.  Revised modeling in the UK is leading to a shift from mitigation to containment, as reflect in France's mandatory shutdown.  We see the same in the US starting as San Francisco is the first area to begin lockdowns will likely only accelerate even as we must wonder will they prove enough given the many exemptions required to keep basic services functioning.  We address the strange irony that the food production, distribution, and delivery system will require people who are most at risk for the least compensation to contemplate serious risk to help others who are not exposed, and look at how Amazon will deal with this and the many tensions that create a massive vulnerability.  Lastly, we peek at the first efforts toward the first vaccine candidate - a goal far off in this distance but toward which progress is being attempted.

Episode 31 sees a new week beginning with the world shutting down to fight coronavirus by stopping the spread by any means possible.  Austria, France, and Spain join Italy in lockdown as Europe's outbreak accelerates wildly.  We cycle the Anglosphere to see New Zealand closing down fast, Australia treading water, the United States stumbling, and the UK preparing for the worst.  Ohio offers an example of aggressive proactive action for social distancing as other states and cities begin independently doing the same.  New numbers suggest a higher case fatality rate, in both the best case scenario, and the unfortunately more realistic situation we are moving toward which will sorely test each country's medical system but for a fortunate few.

01:23:55

For the thirtieth episode, we take stock of what we have to expect as the first heavy blast of the coronavirus outbreak is hitting the West beyond ravaged Italy.  A story from Hong Kong talks about lost lung capacity from survivors who at least, in the short term, seem likely not to be immediately reinfected based on best research.  The war against Covid is furious in Italy, and we share a personal narrative of what it was like seeing the world a person knew disappear in two weeks to the novel reality of the coronavirus contagion.  Modeling explains why we cannot simply flatten the curve, but must change how we live for a time - potentially quite a while - to overcome this by containing ourselves.  Against that backdrop, we see policy leaders from the President onward still reacting and taking minor steps against a problem more major than they seem able to comprehend.  The DOD is preparing to shut down travel for sixty days for military personnel and families.  We should probably be thinking no less as this weekend may be the last chance for travel and resupply for some time.  If not, then it only means the price we will all pay will be that much worse in terms of victims who ultimately will succumb to Covid-19.

02:30:56

Episode 29 starts with a quick jaunt through the world of the Covid-19 pandemic looking at Iran having major trouble with mass graves potentially spotted as Italy is buckling.  We see the viral shedding lasts up to 37 days with a median of 20 days post infection as India offers another similar treatment protocol.  As the crisis deepens, tensions between the US and China are beginning to flare as China's export economy and America's dependence on Chinese drugs create a toxic relationship as politicians search for who to blame in the outbreak.  Amidst that backdrop, Boston looks to be going around the CDC and developing a more aggressive and proactive plan to keep their residents from experiencing the worst of it, which while probably not enough to protect everyone, does offer the promise of saving many lives by further sustaining the health care system.

CV Central - 3/12/2020 - "Aerosol and Masks, Immune Suppression, Chloroquine, Inadequate Policy"
02:26:25

Episode 28 goes for a deep dive into science and policy about the coronavirus outbreak.  We start with a new study which informs us Covid-19 can survive as an aerosol for up to three hours contradicting the earlier claim by the CDC that masks were unnecessary, a major problem as we are desperately lacking supplies despite efforts to ramp up production.  We present a study that argues for immune suppression capacity of Covid-19 with reduced white blood cell count, but which offers also a useful diagnostic to predict case discovery and prognosis.  Another study informs that people can have influenza and coronavirus simultaneously, leading to the testing errors, and perhaps increased risk.  We look closely at how chloroquine offers the best hope for immediate aid, especially early in the infection, as it serves to basically jam the lock of the ACE-2 receptor which Covid-19 has most commonly been using.  This treatment already pioneered in China and elsewhere is further amplified by using Zinc in conjunction to make the cell even less vulnerable to the virus in a method already being applied by Korea.  Solutions exist to mitigate the crisis, but the policy continues to lag in the United States.  While there is a welcome departure toward more serious consideration, the reality is both sides are still seeking to mitigate the crisis in a reactive mindset driven more by economics and ideology than understanding this is a war where a week's delay will mean fatal consequences for many people.  Get prepared, or you'll be like the feral monkeys now roaming in Thailand looking for food as the tourists suddenly disappeared.

Episode 26 sees a quarantine imposed across Italy as prisoners revolt, the economy shudders, and doctors tell of war zones as the #Covid-19 pandemic is raging beyond their ability to try.  We look at the four critical shortages that hinder the effort:  Lack of PPE, lack of antiviral drugs, lack of ICU beds, and lack of ventilators.  That last point with a nationwide hospital supply of only 160k may prove the inescapable obstacle as we see multiple reports describe people dying from the inability to breathe.  Who lives and who dies is the question. The question to quarantine or not is considered, and we look also at food vulnerabilities.

Our fifth week of service begins with Episode 25.  A report from Japan of the first coronavirus related case of meningitis kicks off our coverage.  16 million Italians are now under quarantine to arrest the spread of the deadly pandemic even as doctors in Italy report the ICUs are overloaded, younger people are getting sick in a later wave, and that rationing access to hospitals will be necessary.  We look at how Germany is slowly getting up to speed and how borders are starting to form in Europe.  A trip to New York which is racing to surpass Washington for case numbers shows community spread is increasing, and we see Houston following a similar model just a few days behind.  New mathematical modeling reveals thousands of cases likely to be present in the United States.  On the testing front, America asks Korea for help as the University of Washington pilots a drive thru testing facillity to increase safety and sanitation, needed as we now know air conditioners may spread #Covid-19.

We close our fourth week with Episode 24.  New evidence emerges to substantiate claims of neurological damage, substantial risks to cardiovascular health, and we find Covid may not just mutate, but also reconfigure itself in a process called genetic recombination.  A DOD Study suggests a flu shot might heighten your risk to contract any coronavirus, and we see two different studies about how the new endemic virus will have major consequences for our medical system at first and our society at large.  China is almost as frustrated with America's tepid response as we are here at home as we watch the escalation continue.

In Episode 23, we're looking at a new study from Shenzhen in China about how this virus spreads and the suggestion that children, thankfully spared the worst of the disease to all current accounts, may also be a primary source of transmission.  Feces might offer another alternate equally valid and more easily accessible path for future testing.  We share the story of a nurse who got sick and the system that failed her as Washington State calls on Federal help for resupply of key equipment revealing we likely do not yet have all we will need as this spreads nationwide in America.  Congress' 8 billion dollar spending bill represents the first action toward putting major additional resources into the fight which we analyze.  We report upon BC seeing community spread in the Northwest in Canada, and we look at the UK and their seeming decision to let this blow through choosing a terrible set of medical consequence over perhaps other economic dangers.  Are homeless shelters one part of a larger government plan hiding in plain sight to prepare for mass quarantines?  Lastly, some good news as we learn while dogs may get sick, best evidence suggests they are not a health threat to us for Covid-19.

CV Central - 3/5/2020 - "Brain Infection, Doctor Concerns, and New Modeling"
01:02:19

In this twenty-second episode, we report new evidence from China which further suggests #Covid-19 is a neurological disorder, as well as another example of an infected person who was nominally "cured" who has now died.  India has found their first cluster, California has their first reported death, and South Africa is now infected.  An NHS doctor from the UK lays out what help ICUs need and Singapore develops a new three hour 99% accurate test.  The NHS stops reporting daily and Florida refuses to expand testing as two examples of bad policy endangering the public trust.   Lastly, we look at a predictive model from Australia suggesting this will cost 3-10% of the world economy and a death toll in the tens of millions in the best-case scenario.

CV Central - 3/4/2020 - "Two Strains of Virus; Four Cities Response; Seattle's Choices"
01:52:05

For Episode 21, we begin laying foundations for the Human War against Covid-19 by reporting we now have evidence there are (at least) two dominant and different strains of the virus in the larger public, with a more aggressive "L" strain that appears to have evolved from an ancestral but perhaps less easily detectible "S" strain.  Adding that to our list of questions, we review what happened from Wuhan in detail as precusor to how other world cities are approaching their outbreaks.  We see Qom struggling badly in Iran, Italy's health system in peril in Milan, and Daegu is even taxing the robust Korean effort.  What lessons can Seattle learn as researchers think that city is three weeks away, perhaps less, from going through the same problems?

CV Central - 3/3/2020 - "Assessing Medical Readiness for the War Against Covid"
02:20:57

With our twentieth episode, Coronavirus Central evolves in a new direction as we seek to make sense of how to deal with the burgeoning pandemic versus reacting and reporting to cases.  An active mindset based on reality and threat assessment is emerged instead of a reactive mindset based on feelings and risk mitigation.  We look at why South Korea's model is working better, why Europe's is not, and how taking the fight to Covid, declaring war against this common threat to humanity, is precisely the right mindset for how we must mobilize all people and all capacities of our society for victory.  Crucial to that defense is understanding and developing the ability of our front line defense, our medical systems, and we report upon the shortfalls in ICU beds, protection gear, and information being shared with medical practitioners and citizens alike, with suggested action both big and necessary needed for the fight ahead.  Our thanks to our 20,000 daily listeners, as we ask your help to grow the human resistance to the virus that targets us all.

CV Central - 3/2/2020 - "Neurological Impact, Case Spread, and Outbreak Modeling"
02:29:42

It's a sobering Episode 19 where we start by looking at rapid worldwide progression of the Covid-19 pandemic.  We start by evaluating risk factors to have a better understand of this disease, noting the elevated cancer, diabetes, and obesity numbers, as well as having a larger elderly population, suggest our vulnerable population percentage may be higher than China.  Two new articles are covered in exhaustive detail cataloging both that Covid may behave like AIDS in actively suppressing the immune system, and detailing how that function could be causing people to literally forget to breathe due to neurological damage that appears likely to be enduring as Covid has been demonstrated to breach the blood-brain barrier.  The CDC continues its string of bungled quarantines and releasing sick patients to the general public as we compliment the FDA for higher competence in working to get test kits out there, and we look at a promising serological test which can potentially identify those previously, or perhaps in remission, with their illnes that is being developed in Singapore.  We look at evidence spread happened sooner, wider, and more often than predicted, offering our own modeling to better understand the disease.  Clusters appear to be revealing themselves in Seattle, San Francisco, and Toronto, as new cases hit Florida and New York.  We assess which areas are at highest risk based on the evidence.  Make sure you get masks and keep them on, as well as eye protection, your life may depend upon it.

01:59:08

In Episode 18, I share a little bit more about myself and some of the reasons why this podcast has proven particularly effective at being able to find information you don't find elsewhere .  We look at the WHO report from China and question its integrity given actions by the WHO and China to suppress information throughout this outbreak.  Cases are breaking out along the West Coast of the US now as we ask again why we keep seeing more stories about "cured" people test positive.  A partial list of medications we expect to see restricted is shared, and we encourage you to prepare this weekend with a thirty day food supply while you still can.

01:37:19

In our seventeenth episode, we look at the tightening release of government information as the White House puts a gag on the Federal government sharing information about the outbreak.  We see a story about the UK's plan to institute care panels and their contingency planning is removed.  A report from Italy shares how ICU beds are filling up as one Chinese province reports 14% of Covid-19 victims test as reinfected.  We look closely at why Iran is in such trouble including the likelihood much of their government is at risk from this virus.  We see that Covid-19 has probably infected many, hurt some, but caution against misinterpreting finding those cases that exist as seeing them as an outbreak beyond something likely already here.

01:33:18

Episode 16 starts with review of a story published in the Sun which considers the UK projection that up to 500k could die from Covid-19 in a worst case scenario with cold math that suggests this is worse and that story is an effort to begin slowly raising the level of public awareness about the peril before us.  We look at the rapidly advancing outbreak in South Korea, and apply that logic to the clusters which will form.  The first disconnected case in California is traced back to Travis AFB, hinting at failures in containment yet again from the CDC.  We close with a bombshell that says Covid-19 spreads like HIV, leaving us wondering if it harms us the same way.  Could that be why so many drugs work?  Is Covid-19 a chimera blending attributes of different sicknesses in one load?

01:43:49

Episode 15 offers a framework to deal with a rapidly changing world as the Covid-19 pandemic spreads quickly through Iran, Italy, and South Korea and we see Europe, the Middle East, and now Latin America joining the fray.  We consider what virologists say about how widely this will spread, speak honestly about the millions or tens of millions who will be impacted, and critically gauge the CDC's effectiveness in light of the public admission people should prepare now because the coronavirus is here.  Beyond politics, we look at intermediate treatments to deploy, how to protect medical responders, and implore governments to work now on solutions to the two questions we will need to survive as our economy stagnates amidst supply line disruptions and growing panic:  How do we keep the doctors at work and how do we keep people fed?

Episode 14  begins with a deeper dive into imagining a more effective quarantine policy as we more closely examine the Italian response with the case count roaring toward 300 and neighboring countries being infected.   We continue asking for a more robust response from the WHO and CDC, and look into the pandemic bonds asking if the reason why we have not seen a pandemic declared has much to do with a banking quirk worth at least half a billion dollars.   Larger studies looking at the case volume primarily from Wuhan suggest a mortality rate between 2 and 5% under proper medical supervision, and we look at the details of what to expect.  Finally, the show closes with discussion about what the coming weeks may bring and the constant advisory to prepare because this will come in waves, but quickly.

Episode 13 starts with a reset of the situation to summarize for our new listeners what we have learned about the Covid-19 pandemic, key questions we still have, and a brief outline of events and discoveries.  Key discoveries include that "cured" patients also need a 14 day quarantine lest they spread the virus, the FDA reports impending shortages for 150 drugs, and local governments resist efforts from the CDC to place Covid-19 victims in their community.  The CDC continues to criminally underreport the case load and the WHO claims they no longer have pandemics.  Meanwhile, Iran has seen 50 deaths acknowledged , South Korea is heading toward full quarantine, and Italy has jumped to over 200 cases rapidly with 5 deats and Lombardy in lockdown.  Sadly, while China claims to have under 500 new cases daily now, we see incinerators going throughout the country with a firewall shielding what they are doing from the world as we see sulphur plumes off the chart now being measured - a signal of the burning of organic waste.  Prepare now as the quarantines are coming.

01:14:06

In Episode 12, we report upon the rapidly declining situation in South Korea with updates from Iran and Italy.   Wuhan claims cases are dropping as they build 19 new hospitals in a growing pattern to undermine the credibility of countries and institutions alike.  We look at a fight between the CDC and State Department about those Diamond Princess passengers who were brought home without even consulting the President and against medical advice.  New information suggesting that feces accelerates the spread as do upper respiratory infections which could resemble the flu is shared.   We include evidence to further strenghten the argument for why Covid could be engineered based on its origin point.  Lastly, we make the case with global spread accelerating and quarantines becoming a more regular feature, the time to prepare is now with our strongest suggestion that you want at least a 30 day supply of necessary items focusing on food, water, and medicine to remain in place.

Episode 11 begins with a deeper look into South Korea's outbreak which has three clusters as cases have increased six fold in just two days.  We look into Iran which is now reporting four deaths amidst a growing case load, and the start of a cluster potentially near Milan in Italy.  A deeper look into the question of reinfection and contagiousness answers a listener question.  We offer US updates from Nebraska, Kansas, New York, and ask the question about why the CDC is looking so much at the flu but not testing for Covid-19 as vigorously.  This episode closes with emerging options for treatment including the progress toward a vaccine, HIV anti-virals like Remdeseivr, the observed impact of anti-malarial chloroquine, and blood plasma transfusions.

Coronavirus Central - Episode 10 - February 20, 2020
01:10:01

Episode 10 features a series of news reports from around the world about the rapidly changing state of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.  We start with examining the reduction in case reporting from China coupled with the insertion of industrial organic waste incinerators in Wuhan and promises from the government there to punish anyone whose area reports cases.  The first deaths emerge from Iran, suggesting a deeper and previouly unrecognized infection area may be present.  Cases triple overnight in South Korea with a major city, Daegu, calling for self-quarantine as numbers rise further in Japan, Singapore, and throughout Asia.  In America, we hear the continuing report of only 15 cases even as tens of thousands are under self-quarantine, and we ask why so few people are being tested.  Lastly, we look at the emerging science for risks of a second infection potentially being greater than the first, and ask the question what Covid-19 will do to us?

Coronavirus Central - Episode 9 - February 19, 2020
01:08:19

In Episode 9, we dive more deeply into what is happening in Japan.  With nearly a hundred cases beyond the sad story of the Diamond Princess, we see the beginnings of an outbreak in Japan with several clusters of cases inside and outside Tokyo.  Public criticism is rising about lax health measures as the Health Ministry explores HIV drugs for treatment, working from home, and more testing kits being made available.   All these, however, are still outweighed by Japan's determination to keep their tourism industry afloat, and we look at one case in particular that connects China, Japan, and Hawaii.

Coronavirus Central - Episode 8 - February 18, 2020
00:56:49

Episode 8 dives into the supply chain interruptions taking a look at how deeply Covid-19 is impacting the Chinese economy, the heavy reduction in usage of fuel and transportation, the risk to the food supply, and the perils of manufacturing during an epidemic.  We look at how the West is exposed with a focus on the medical supply and pharmaceutical sectors, electronics, manufacturing, and automobiles, and the real problems of finding alternate suppliers with the world's primary manufacturer mostly offline.  Lastly, we examine efforts by the WHO to silence all non-authorized reporting sources, arguing against the spreading informational blackout of this devastating outbreak.

Coronavirus Central - Episode 7 - February 17, 2020
00:53:39

Episode Seven dives more deeply into the public response to the Covid-19 outbreak.  We look at the missteps by both the CDC and WHO, including release of infected patients, improper test kits, and the political connections that are leading to public silence even as we see larger preparations under way.  The International Committee on the Taxonomy of Viruses labled the Novel Coronavirus as SARS-2, but the politicians at the WHO didn't want the sort of public response they could not control, so they chose a different contradictory name.  We go deeper into stories we are being told of hidden cases, and the Chinese search for Patient Zero as we all want to know who is responsible as the public story of bat urine might strike some as incredulous.

Coronavirus Central - Episode 6 - February 15, 2020
00:46:43

Episode Six of Coronavirus Central looks much more deeply into the ACE-II pathway by which Covid infects humans and what implications result.  We start by examining the nature of the Angiotensin Converting Enzyme, revealing it is an essential component of all humans with heavy clusters in the lower respiratory system, and being used to regulate blood pressure.  As we review news and studies based both on Covid and SARS which uses this same mechanism, we learn of the threat not just from infection, but from reinfection where the immune system may begin attacking our own cardiovascular function when it tries to fight off this virus, in a cytokine storm similar to what happened with the Spanish Flu.   Considering this two-tier threat to public health, we consider the potential that Covid could be a bioweapon in light of certain actions by the PLA and a troubling document that suggests at least some people in China were made aware of this threat weeks before the general public.

Coronavirus Central - Episode 5 - February 14, 2020
00:56:30

In Episode 5, we review a study that suggests a far higher case count in Wuhan than previously reported by using statistics to determine both the number of asymptomatic carriers as well as to offer analysis of how effective the quarantine efforts are proving.   From there, we look at the potential for re-infection as well as how this disease might evolve and recur on a seasonal basis.  A deeper dive into the supply line reveals the many vulnerabilities in public health against an outbreak including pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, hospital beds, and production capacity.  We take a first glimpse at a potential effort to protect first responders and most vulnerable populations with antibody production as well.

Coronavirus Central - Episode 4 - February 13, 2020
00:47:25

In Episode Four, we review the change in criteria by the Chinese government to include clinically diagnosed cases which saw a jump of 14,480 new cases and 242 new deaths reported on February 12th.  These new criteria bring the numbers closer to what mathematical modeling predicts as we share two studies that suggest the transmission rate should be between 5 and 6 with an incubation period as long as 24 days observed.  This means the 14 day quarantines are ineffective, as the spread of cases into the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and others makes clear, from which global air and trade continues unabated.  We close with a tip about how to ensure you always have potable drinking water for a $5 investment.

Coronavirus Central - Episode 3 - February 12, 2020
00:38:13

In Episode Three of Coronavirus Central, we're going to review the daily numbers, take a much closer look at Singapore's situation as a larger example that parallels the issues the cruise ship are facing, explain the difference between mortality rate and case fatality rate and also why lower initial mortality can with a highly infectious virus make it harder to stop, trace, leading to more deaths in the end.  An introduction to some US government resources is also shared, as well as information about coconut oil as a potential natural option to bolster your own defenses against Covid-19.

Coronavirus Central - Episode 2 - February 11, 2020
00:38:15

In Episode 2 of the Coronavirus Central Podcast, we report the daily statistics, feature an update of the  reasons why so many people dispute the official numbers being provided to the WHO by the Chinese Government, offer a closer look at the case of the quarantined cruise ship "Diamond Princess" that now has 135 reported cases, and examine the wider economic implications.  A detailed discussion of the dependency of the international consumer market on Chinese pharmaceuticals is considered, and considering that the vast majority of generic drugs including nearly all antibiotics, as well as most of the core ingredients come from China, it is likely that by the end of February, we will see major medical shortages of key medication worldwide due to the global supply chain.  Alternatives to traditional medicine are briefly considered.
