#234 – The Very Long, Very Late Episode
5026

On this week's episode of the Vookcast, Ollie is joined by Angelo, Michael, and Luke in a huge episode all about Nintendo shuttering yet another mobile game, the Switch finally (kind of, a little bit) getting folders, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

We also take some questions from a listener who wanted to know a little bit more about us, and take on our hardest challenge yet in Nintendo 20 questions.

Huge apologies for both the sound quality in this one and the long time it took to upload. I (that's Ollie) just moved houses and literally recorded with a laptop set up on a moving box, and my recording and editing spaces aren't perfect yet. I'm hoping to finally be up and running on the usual old schedule by the next episode.

#226 - 15 Years of Nintendo Wii!
4142

On this week's Vookcast, Angelo is joined by Luke and Michael to reminisce over the Wii for its 15th anniversary (in the US, at least). We spent most of the episode talking about our first experiences with the console, the impact it had on our lives, and how the system has since influenced the games industry.

And we couldn’t resist discussing retro games in some capacity, of course, especially after Xbox’s Phil Spencer went on the record to suggest platform manufacturers should share responsibility in preserving games by allowing emulation.

Do you think Nintendo should open up its historic games catalogue for its own official emulators? What was your first experience with the Wii? And what was your favourite memory? Touch fuzzy, get dizzy with us in the Vooks Discord and join the discussion!

On this week's Vookcast, Angelo is joined by Ollie, Luke, and Michael to consider the latest homebrew “fix” for Joy-Con drift that’s picked up steam recently, and chat about the newest Smash clone contender Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. And because we’re a Nintendo site and podcast, we have our own debate about whether or not the Nintendo Switch (OLED model) is really worth the money.

For this episode’s featured discussion, with yet another piece of Nintendo hardware coming out that’s made to do what all the others do, too, we point our attention towards some fans’ attitudes about buying Nintendo products for the sake of having it and if it’s a healthy way to go.

The gang also reacts to the surprise announcement of Super Mario Party’s online multiplayer update, and the government’s new tax offset scheme for local game development starting next year.

In our featured discussion, we focus a lens on New Pokémon Snap and find out if this is finally the Pokémon game for Michael.

On this week's Vookcast, Angelo is joined by Ollie, Luke, and Michael and are puzzled by a new Pokémon stamp collection coming to AusPost in celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary. We also look into the new Mario Kart Tour Sydney event, as well as the announcement of a new way to print your photos from New Pokémon Snap thanks to Fujifilm’s Pokémon Instax Mini Printer, and the new, blue Nintendo Switch Lite variant.

Just for fun, this week’s discussion topic is our favourite soundtrack from Nintendo-published games, and of course, Ollie has some opinions!

#209 - Will the Switch Pro Support DLSS?
4300

On this week's Vookcast, Angelo is joined by Ollie, Luke, and Michael to delve into what’s good about one of Switch’s biggest releases of the year: Monster Hunter Rise. Luke and Ollie have had extensive time with the game in the lead up to their reviews, and give us the low-down on what to expect getting into later parts of the game.

There have also been some really interesting rumours (because there’s no shortage of them) surrounding the Switch Pro, suggesting it might incorporate DLSS for upscaling docked gameplay to 4K. Don’t know what any of that means? That’s okay, because we get into that for you!

Our featured discussion, though, is of course, the Switch’s fourth birthday! We take a quick look back on how it’s grown since it turned 3 years old, and what the next year might look like in comparison.

We also have some preview info to discuss, with Luke taking us through his time in Knockout City, and Ollie sharing what’s what with Bravely Default 2 and Monster Hunter Rise.

#205 - What's Going on With Sonic at Sega?
3880

On this week's Vookcast, Angelo is joined by Ollie and Luke to look back on a week of… not much, really. Takaya Imamura, character designer of Fox McCloud and Falco, among many others, departed Nintendo after 32 years. And another important behind-the-scenes figure, Sonic the Hedgehog voice actor Roger Craig Smith, is also no longer part of Sega after a decade.

But while it was a quiet couple of weeks, we still come together to look back on some stand out games made in Australia, and compare our favourite/least enjoyable Zelda games. Then, of course, we finish off with another round of Nintendo 20 Questions!

#204 - Are Big Anniversary Events Becoming Irrelevant?
3951

On this week's Vookcast, Angelo is joined by Ollie, Luke, and Chris Lawn to dive into last week’s trailers of Nintendo’s biggest 2021 releases (that we know of): New Pokémon Snap and New Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. We also quickly discuss Super Nintendo World’s recently-delayed opening, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons being Australia’s highest-selling game of 2020.

In light of news swirling around Pokémon’s 25th anniversary, and Katy Perry jumping on the marketing bandwagon, the show’s featured topic is whether or not these big anniversary events are becoming irrelevant. And topping the show off is a new round of Nintendo 20 Questions!

On this week's Vookcast, Angelo is joined by Luke and Daniel W to squee with glee at the first official look at Super Nintendo World. We then turn our attention to the joint statement out of Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo about their pledge to combat toxic online gaming and take responsibility for providing a safer environment for young gamers.

In further news about March 31’s annihilation day for Mario games (because we just can’t seem to steer clear of this story), NOA President, Doug Bowser, has gone on the record to say this timed-release marketing scheme is a “celebration” of Mario’s 35th anniversary. Hmm.

In our final featured discussion of 2020 we share our most memorable Nintendo Christmas moments, and top the show off with Nintendo 20 Questions!

3926

On this week’s Vookcast Angelo is joined by Luke and Chris to break down the rumours surrounding Nintendo’s big Mario plans for 2020 (including remasters of the plumber’s most iconic 3D titles), and which of our favourite releases we hope to see make a return. Plus, Gamescom is set to go ahead with a digital event later this year, then we check on what else is happening in the world with Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Of course, another week means another eShop drop and sale, so we top it all off with our recommendations. Hint: there are some good Aussie indies on the cheap!

Are you excited about getting a 3D Super Mario collection? Are you keen to get your hands on The Outer Worlds on Switch? What are some crazy social experiences you’ve had in Animal Crossing? Join the conversation in the Vooks Discord!

Be sure to subscribe for fortnightly episodes and give us a review - it really helps us out!

This week we present a new Vookcast Special: The Nookcast! I’m joined Ollie, Daniel Vuckovic, and special guest Michael Goncalves, who’s a moderator for the Vooks Discord community.

This week is all about Animal Crossing: New Horizons: what’s new, what’s great, and what we’re hoping will come. We also dive into what makes the series so special and how it’s being received among Nintendo fans, as well as you, the Vooks community!

Of course, another week means another eShop drop and sale, so we top it all off with our recommendations.

What are you enjoying most about Animal Crossing: New Horizons? What’s surprised you the most about venturing across different islands? Are you excited for Bunny Day? Join the conversation - and share some fruit! - in the Vooks Discord!

#182 - How Much is a Nintendo Play Station Worth to You?
3963

On this week's Vookcast, (a very exhausted) Angelo is joined by Ollie and Luke to discuss Mario Kart Tour's new live multiplayer feature, GDC's postponement (and whether or not E3 might inevitably follow suit), then contemplate the worth of the only publically known Nintendo Play Station prototype.

Then, we reminisce over the Switch's third birthday, and discuss how far the system's come - as well as how far it still needs to go. Plus, as always, we give our eShop recommendations.

#123 - VCR Tape #011: Project Zero 2 - Wii Edition
3528
Surprise! The Vookcast regulars, Steven and James, return with an all new Vookcast after a brief and regrettable hiatus! This is our first VCR episode in several months, and for those who are just joining us, VCR episodes are episodes where we look at a game from Nintendo's past (be it first or third party) and analyse it as best we can. Given that Nintendo Australia recently confirmed that the fifth Project Zero (Fatal Frame) game will be heading to our shores this year, we thought we'd dig into the vault to give Project Zero 2: Wii Edition a try. It's a fairly simple sounding game - helpless Japanese girl is isolated in a scary place with a violent past, haunted by ghosts, and must fight them off with a camera. Sounds great, right? The team begins with a very brief recount of the series and how it turned out to become a pseudo exclusive for Nintendo systems. Following that, they delve into the game's story and writing and how effective it is as a horror game. What sets Project Zero apart from it's contemporaries? We explore this and much, much more in the newest VCR episode of the Vookcast. For full production and music credits please visit http://www.Vooks.netSupport the show

Greeting and salutations loyal Vookcast listeners! We took somewhat of a quick mid-season break and returned to bring you our totally unbiased and unadulterated thoughts on Nintendo's E3 showings. It's a doozy of an episode as we cover all of the updates to the already existing games as well as all the brand new announcements including the controversial Metroid Prime: Federation Force. Because the Internet is awash with conspiracy theories, we though we would fit in some musings and speculation on Nintendo's plans for the future (for good measure, of course). The team also talks about the latest release for Nintendo - Yoshi's Woolly World, too.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/vooksdotnet)

Episode 121 of the Vookcast is here. Along with James hosting and Steven being there as per usual, we have special guests Wayne and Troy on board to chat the last fortnight and a bit of Nintendo. Amiibo restocks, counterfeit amiibo, amiibo cards, Chibi Robo amiibo, Skylanders, Lego Jurassic World delays, Splatoon updates Project Treasure and a bunch of other news rate a mention, along with some lively discussion about Splatoon, our impressions after a fortnight of play and it’s updates. Oh, and we throw in some E3 predictions as well, so you can all tell us just how wrong we are on the day of the Nintendo Digital Event. We hope you enjoy this episode of the Vookcast!Support the show

Get comfortable, because the Vookcast is back for a new episode. Usual host James is out for the count (or more accurately, his computer is) so Steven stepped up to the plate. Hopefully he didn’t do a terrible job. Steven is joined by old favourite Daniel, and streaming YouTubing all around swell bloke Troy to talk about the big news of the fortnight like gold amiibo, silver amiibo, medically trained amiibo. There’s lots of amiibo, okay. Nintendo’s financials, E3 plans, mobile games, Splatoon’s Global Testfire and some other bits of news get a mention as well. As for talking about games, the crew touch on the recently released StreetPass games, as well as Intelligent Systems’ long delayed but finally released in Australia strategy RPG, Code Name: STEAM. Apologies, there were some audio issues in this episode. They’re not too terrible and we’ve worked around them as best we can, just thought we’d let you know. While we have no major new releases to talk about this fortnight we do have heaps of news to cover in this episode which is more than enough reason to bring our loyal listeners yet another episode of the Vookcast! Series regulars James and Steven cover all the latest news from the latest Nintendo Direct, as well as heaps of new announcements for both the 3DS and Wii U that'll hopefully be hitting our shores later this year. Of course, anyone and everyone on the internet has heard about the incredibly succesful Yooka-Laylee kickstarter too, we we jump into the ring with our own opinions on that too. Some of the biggest news to hit Nintendo circles for years has happened this fortnight, and like clockwork the Vookcast crew are here to have a chat and break down just what this might mean for Nintendo's future. There is of course the big announcement of Nintendo's partnership with DeNA, and sudden embrace of mobile platforms. A new platform NX was also announced, but there's not a whole lot to talk about there. There's also the obligatory release date news, Netflix has arrived, and amiibo details. This fortnight additionally saw the release of Mario Party 10, and we've both got a fair bit to say about that.Support the show

#116 - VCR Tape #010: Kirby Canvas Curse
2703
Welcome to yet another VCR episode for 2015, and this one is quite an interesting one. While we go into this game in some considerable depth, the episode is much shorter than others but we hope you still enjoy our look at Kirby Canvas Curse, one of the more experimental of the Kirby games. Kirby Canvas Curse was arguably the first mainline Kirby game that didn't conform to the standard things you'd expect from a typical platformer. As such, we thought it was the most appropriate Kirby game to look at especially considering that a spiritual successor was released in the states just recently as Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. The team does the usual - talks about the development history (or in this case, context) for the game as well as critiques it's story, game design and presentation. To keep things mildly interesting for this very short episode, the team also talks about the Kirby series as a whole and where we see Kirby heading next. Check back next week for another traditional episode and one hell of a party!Support the show

#114 - VCR Tape #009: Resident Evil CODE Veronica
4297
Welcome to the first VCR episode of the Vookcast for 2015! For those who are just joining us, VCR stands for Vooks Critical Review! It's where the team sits down, looks at a (sometimes controversial) title and dissects it in it's entirety from story to writing to gameplay and presentation! The topic of the show this time around is Resident Evil CODE: Veronica. Developed by a secondary team who were actually a SEGA subsidiary, CODE: Veronica is one of the more hotly debated Resident Evil titles. Some love it, some hate it. But there's one thing for sure - it's not like the other "classic" Resident Evil games. James and Steven dive into the game to work out just why that might be. The team does the usual - talking about the game's complicated and convoluted development history (including it's relation to Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 3, Devil May Cry and even Rockstar Games) as well as the quality and direction of the game's story and writing. In terms of game design, no stone is left unturned. The effect of character swapping on the gameplay, the place for puzzles and more are discussed in great detail. There's even more to it than that, and we hope you'll enjoy the first VCR for 2015! For full production and music credits please vist http://www.vooks.netSupport the show

#110 – VCR Tape #008: Donkey Kong 64

The team returns with an all new VCR! In case you weren't aware, the Vooks Critical Review is a special kind of podcast episode where the team discusses and dissects a game in Nintendo’s past, whether it be third or first party, and talk about how it holds up today. The game for this VCR tape is Donkey Kong 64, a game that was lauded by critics when it was released but then torn down by players and fans alike today for the very same reasons. But how does it hold up today? The team dived in and played as much as they could to give it a go. As with the other VCR episodes, we look at the game's development history and the background and cultural context in which it was released. We also talk about the gameplay and how it holds up today, and how it could perhaps be fine-tuned where it doesn't. Similarly, we talk about the game's presentation and it's similarities to Rare's other major franchise like Banjo Kazooie. Finally, we talk about what happened to the franchise after 64 and the strange experimental lull that occurred all the way through until Returns on Wii. Nintendo's offerings on the eShop - from downloadable content to titles being released, are also discussed and covered. Of course, there's been some great new releases in the past few weeks too, and the team looks at both Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 in some detail. #108 – VCR Tape #007: Sweet Home
4723
The team returns with an all new VCR! In case you weren't aware, the Vooks Critical Review is a special kind of podcast episode where the team discusses and dissects a game in Nintendo’s past, whether it be third or first party, and talk about how it holds up today. The game for this VCR tape is Sweet Home, a 1989 NES title that was developed by Capcom and considered by many to be the first survival horror games made. Mixed with unusual RPG elements, the game sees a group of five people, each with unique abilities vying to get out of a haunted mansion in a remote location somewhere in Japan. The game was so scary and so violent at the time that Capcom never bothered to bring it outside to anywhere besides Japan. Sweet Home As with other VCR episodes, we look at the game's development history and reflect on how media culture during the 80s was probably different than now. We also talk about the story and the themes tackled by this game, which was definitely one of the first to tackle these kind of dark and macabre themes. And don't worry - we don't spoil anything! Of course, we also discuss game design, presentation and give a final thought on how we felt about it. Given the game's ties to the Resident Evil series, this is an episode that any fans owes it to themselves to check out! After all, Capcom attempted to remake it in 1996 for the Playstation, and changed it so much that it eventually became Resident Evil!. So sit back and enjoy this episode! We hope you like this new, alternate format for the episode and we’ll return with a traditional episode next fortnight to discuss Bayonetta! It's pretty obvious what this episode is about but we'll play along for a little bit. Yet another traditional episode of the Vookcast returns with the usual crew of James, Steven and Daniel. The team talks about the latest news, of which there was hardly any. Topics covered included the new console bundles announced for Australia, the Wii U upgrade deal for Skylanders and even the newest updates about Hyrule Warriors and its downloadable content. Then we get into the crux of the podcast, which, as you might have guessed, is just a long discussion about Smash Bros for 3DS. That's it! And I don't think we need to say much more. Enjoy! #106 - Hyrule, Curtains, Magnets and Turnkicks
4482
The team returns with yet another episode of the Vookcast! We go over the latest news, as minimal as it is, including the latest Smash Brothers updates as well as the Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire demo that was recently announced for release in the coming months. We also talk about Hyrule Warrior's downloadable content schedule and pricing structure as well as the new announcement of Image & Form's game SteamWorld Heist. Of course, it wouldn't be any Vookcast without a mention of Watch_Dogs for Wii U so we threw in a small discussion about the game now that it's finally got a release date for the Wii U. The team has a massive four games to talk about this fortnight. Of course, the major release for this cycle was Hyrule Warriors, but the team also talked about Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy Curtain Call and how it differs from the original and why it's more than just an expansion pack. Shifting gears, the team also talks about two major eShop titles - Teslagrad and KickBeat: Special Edition, which both got the review treatment on Vooks only recently. So strap in for another episode of the Vookcast and rest easy knowing that by the next one, we'll all be playing Smash Brothers on 3DS! The team returns with a very special guest - VOOK himself! We go over the latest news in all of the directs Nintendo have put out in the past few weeks. First up is the discussion about the new Smash Bros. announcements - but don't worry, we don't mention anything that was mentioned in any leaks so you can listen without being spoiled! On top of that, the team talks about the announcement of the new 3DS, including the console itself, it's games, it's customisability and future prospects for the system. Of course, we also chat about the latest updates on Bayonetta 2, including all the details that just came out of the direct as well as the controversial Arcade exclusive title (for now) which is a collaboration between The Pokemon Company and Team Tekken. Other announcements such as Mario Kart 8 DLC, Miyamoto's thoughts on casual gamers, and the future of the Resident Evil franchise with Nintendo are also discussed. #104 - Steampunk, Japanese Ghosts and Transformers
5329
The team returns to our traditional format for this episode, where we do a brief recap of all the latest news in the world of Nintendo. Since there's no new releases to talk about, we are doing what we call Team Picks, where the team talks about one game each that they are presently playing instead. As per usual with most of our recaps, we provide the latest updates on Super Smash Bros. as well as Hyrule Warriors. Please note that there's no discussion of the recent leaks or spoilers as we recorded the episode prior to the leaks being made. The latest updates from the world of Pokemon, as well as updates for the eShop and it's titles are also discussed in some detail. We briefly cover some of the new game announcements straight out of Japan, as well as some bad news (as always) such as Ubisoft's comments about the Wii U. The team picks for this episode were SteamWorld Dig for Wii U, Calling for Wii, Rogue Legacy as well as the 3DS version of Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark (which is developed by WayForward). We talk about them all in moderate detail. So that's it for another fortnight! #103 – VCR Tape #006: Trauma Center Under The Knife / Second Opinion
3957
Our first Vooks Critical Review (VCR) since our mid year break is the flavour of the fortnight. In case you didn't know, the Vooks Critical Review is a special kind of podcast episode where the team discusses and dissects a game in Nintendo's past, whether it be third or first party, and talk about how it holds up today. The game for this VCR tape is Trauma Center: Under The Knife and the Wii remake, Trauma Center: Second Opinion, the surgical drama game developed by Atlus. As per usual with these episodes, the team delves into the game's development history, looks at the reactions to the Wii remake of the game being announced so soon after the DS version as well as the game's writing and story itself. We get into the nitty gritty once again, discussing the game design. The fundamental gameplay, the flow and pacing of the surgeries and the key differences between the two versions are discussed in great detail. Of course, this means we'll decide between us which tools work best with which control schemes, and whether the game is better suited to touch or motion pointer controls. Additionally, we speak about how the series would fare today in modern markets and if we would be willing to play another game like this today, in 2014. We close with a discussion on the game's presentation, evaluating it on it's own merit and when compared to other Trauma Center games too. So sit back and enjoy this episode! #101 – VCR Tape #005 - Timesplitters 2
6051
The team returns with a brand new VCR tape! VCR stands for Vooks Critical Review, and it means the team will be diving into a game of yesteryear (or maybe even more recent) to dissect and critique it and see how well it holds up today! The game for this VCR tape is TimeSplitters 2, the first multi platform game from the team comprised of ex-Rare designers known as Free Radical Design. The team opens the episode by looking at a brief history of the game as well as discussing how the game establishes it's story. Being a rather comedic game, the team looks at it's tone and humour too. Then we get into the real nitty gritty - discussing the game design. Everything from the fundamental gunplay to a level by level analysis is touched upon, including how multiplayer and single player hold up today. To close the episode, we obviously run over how it stands up graphically as well. So sit back and enjoy this episode! #100 - E3 2014 Spectacular

It's been a huge week for Nintendo and we think it shows in this episode of the Vookcast! Commemorating our 100th episode, the team looks at all of the announcements to come out of E3. The usual team of James, Steven and Daniel is joined by special guests Scott (aka Lucrei) as well as newcomer Wayne. The episode opens with a run down of the titles announced for this year - including Devil's Third, Smash Bros. for both 3DS and Wii U as well as Nintendo's ambitious new figurine line, the Amiibo range. Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2 and the surprise Bayonetta 1 port as well as Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker are discussed too! With such a busy 2014, an even busier 2015 is on the horizon too! The team discusses Zelda for Wii U, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Code Name S.T.E.A.M., Yoshi's Woolly World, Splatoon, Mario Party 10, Mario Maker, Kirby & The Rainbow Curse and Xenoblade X. But that's not all! The team also talks about Miyamoto's projects 0 including Project Giant Robot, Project Guard and the much talked about Star Fox for Wii U. Even games that weren't at the show get a mention! The team finishes the episode talking about the game that weren't shown, but we hoped were. #99 - Mario Kart Sucks: Triple Deluxe
4672
To finalise our celebrations for Mario Kart MAYhem, and yes, we realise it's June, here's a brand new episode of the Vookcast! This episode goes through all of the latest news that we've yet to cover on the Vookcast, including controversial topics like Nintendo's plans for near field communication figurines (known as NFP) as well as their contentious YouTube revenue splitting scheme. Of course, to keep things light, we talk about the latest news in the realm of Nintendo including the latest Smash Bros. news - both the announcement of fan favourite Ike and the controller adapter and a discussion on the blow out of information we received in the last fortnight about Hyrule Warriors. Of course, Mario Kart 8 also came out only last weekend, and Kirby Triple Deluxe in the last week or so too. The team dives into both the games discussing what they thought of both games. To close the episode, we tease our 100th episode as well as our season finale, which will be another in-depth critique episode. We're doing another Gamecube title this time, and we've got a feeling many fans will have played this one. Can you guess what it is? Of course, as promised, we also announce the Mario Kart MAYhem winners who participates in our roundtables the last month, officially closing off Mario Kart MAYhem. #98 - Flying Animals, Space Travellers & Lasers

The team opens up the Nintendo vault to do another in-depth critique for a game belonging to a franchise that Nintendo has long forgot. Released several years ago for the original DS, and the latest (original) Starfox title in the franchise, Starfox Command was a bizarre game. It featured a new approach to the Starfox formula, coupled with new hardware (for the time) in the DS. It was received well critically, but the team isn't quite sure why. In this episode, we unpack the game's story, it's presentation and it's gameplay elements that contribute to our love (or hate) for the game. Want to know what we thought of Starfox Command? The team returns with it's third ever in-depth critique episode. This game was one of the most controversial inclusions of the series it belongs too, and was so unsuccessful that it sparked it's developer to completely change up the formula. In case you haven't worked it out, that game is Resident Evil Zero. James, Steven and Daniel run through the game's development history, before diving straight into the game's narrative and story. Moving on to Game Design, the team discusses the design of the game's puzzles, battle system, enemy designs, item and inventory management as well as the most controversial element - how including a second character changes things up. As per usual, the team discusses the game's presentation and reflects on what the game could have been with Beta Elements. #95 – From Top Hats and Lapels to Boobs and Violence
4232
The team returns with another traditional episode this fortnight. James, Steven and Daniel all return to discuss the latest news and announcements, including the (finally) release of Retro City Rampage, the announcement of Cult County and all that juicy information that Nintendo finally let loose about Mario Kart 8.The team also covers more localised, Australia centric news - including the recently announced Electabuzz/Magmar Pokemon event, the Pink 2DS and it's Australian release date, as well as recent additions to Club Nintendo and the confirmation of the Pokemon VGC returning for another year. There's some bad news in there too, for good measure. The team does a bit of housekeeping and covers some games we previously missed, including the controversial Senran Kagura Burst and the fashionably late Retro City Rampage. Of course, James gets some sizeable discussion about Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney too.So that's it for another fortnight! Don't forget that our next proper in-depth critique episode is going to debut in the next fortnight, and we've got the competition winner to be announced in that episode too. #94 - That Damn Kazoo
4388
It’s business as usual with the latest episode of the Vookcast which returns to the traditional format with special guest, Troy, the staffer who does our weekly eShop updates. The usual team and our esteemed guest go through all the latest and most notable news of the past few weeks, offering their insights on the most recent classifications and announcements for new games on the eShop and Virtual Console, along with the latest updates to several of Nintendo’s key digital titles.Moving to a more community focus, the team discusses Nintendo’s presence at the Game Developers Conference this year, as well as Nintendo Australia’s efforts not only to bring the Mario Kart 8 collector’s edition to Australia, but also to finally establish a social media presence on Facebook and Twitter. Bad news, as always, is discussed too with Nintendo closing select online services and the whole Wii U WATCH_DOGS debacle now that it’s been given a release date.Of course, we’d be wrong to forget to mention the latest releases - and the team talks about their thoughts on the rather dividing Yoshi’s Island sequel, Yoshi’s New Island as well as the quietly released Pokemon Link: Battle! for the eShop. #93 - A Tropical Getaway for an In-Depth Critique
4216
Most of you guessed it, and it’s therefore one of our worst kept secrets, but we’ve finally put together our thoughts to bring our viewers a in-depth look at one of Nintendo’s most divisive Mario games - Super Mario Sunshine. A critical and commercial success back when it released, more retrospective looks have been much more critical since then. The regular team of James, Steven and Daniel take us through the game from beginning to end – covering the development history and cultural context of the games release, the game’s story itself as well as it’s a rather odd emphasis on delivering a more “serious” story. The team then looks at the game’s design - including the game structure, the game’s platforming mechanics and the most divisive inclusion of them all - FLUDD. To close off, we discuss the game’s tropical visuals, it’s soundtrack and even elements of the game that were cut early in production and how they might have impacted on the game at large. We feel like we’ve kind of found our niche with this new format of the podcast, but those who aren’t fans of Super Mario Sunshine need not to fret – we’ll be back with a brand new episode in a fortnight with the traditional format. This format is new and we’ll be doing them from time to time, though, so make sure to give us feedback in the comments! We really appreciate it!As always, we included a very vague snippet to give hints as to what the team is playing to analyse next - did you catch it? What game do you think we’re working on next? For full production credits, music credits and a timeline of the episode please visit http://www.Vooks.netSupport the show

#92 - Tropical Submarines
4561
The team returns to the traditional format to bring our loyal listeners their thoughts on the latest and greatest announcements of the last fortnight. The latest announcements for Smash Brothers and the updating of release dates (and delays) for various games open the show, with a quick recap on Nintendo’s latest promises for the Virtual Console service. The newest announcements are also discussed, from NES Remix 2 all the way through to Sonic Boom and Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark. It’s a packed episode from start to finish for the news.Of course, we’re not ones to ignore our critical darling either, with a full discussion and critique of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Not to be left in the (furry) shadow, the team also discusses it’s thoughts of Nintendo’s latest free to play experiment: Steel Diver Sub Wars.We return to the new format next week - a critical look at one of Nintendo’s most dividing titles. We tease it in this episode - can you figure out what it is?As a side note, there is some interference with the audio that has since been isolated and will not appear in future episodes. We apologise for the distortion in the present episode and assure our listeners it will not happen again. #91 - An In-Depth Look at Metroid: Other M
4847
The team has been busy at work researching and playing one of the most divisive Nintendo games to bring you this episode of the podcast – our long awaited (and possibly overdue) Metroid Other M in-depth critique! The regular team of James, Steven and Daniel take us through the game from beginning to end – covering the writing of the game itself, including the characterisation of Samus and Adam, as well as the federation. After a short break we return with a discussion of the gameplay and how it impacted (both positively and negatively) the game itself. To finish, we discuss the visual presentation and soundtrack of the game in comparison to previous games like Prime and the original games.Of course, as we asked the community, we also close with a discussion of all your opinions of the game.We hope you enjoy this alternate format to the podcast, but those who aren’t fans of Metroid need not to fret – we’ll be back with a brand new episode in a fortnight with the traditional format. This format is new and we’ll be doing them from time to time, though, so make sure to give us feedback in the comments! #89 - 2013 Reflection and 2014 Excitement
4011
Welcome to the newest season of the Vookcast and our first episode for 2014!Since we didn't get around to doing it at the end of last year, the team has had some time to reflect and play whatever games they missed out on throughout the year and decide between them which games were their favourites of the year. The team runs through their best and worst games separately on both the Wii U and the 3DS, with the 3DS eShop getting a special mention too. Following that, the team talks about which games they're looking forward to coming out this year (from what we know, anyway) and a random hope or dream that may or may not happen this coming year too.Do you agree? Do you not? Let us know! Big changes will be coming to the podcast soon, so watch this space and enjoy a reflection on one of the biggest years for Nintendo! We'd also like to apologise in advance - there is some audible background noise that appeared only in post-production, but was unable to be removed without removing speech. We have isolated the issue for future episodes. For full production and music credits, visit www.vooks.netSupport the show

We'd like to start off with an apology - we actually recorded an episode last fortnight but due to technical and time difficulties we couldn't get it together in time. But here we are again this fortnight with an all new podcast. The usual gang of James, Steven and Daniel go over all of the latest Nintendo news - including their recent release date confirmations and delays, the latest updates for Pokemon X and Y, hardware news for both the Wii and the Wii U as well as Smash Brothers. There's even a tiny bit in there about Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut.The team focuses on only one major release this episode - Wind Waker HD. All the things we love about Wind Waker, all the things we didn't love - and of course, all of the changes and how they impact the gameplay. With only one game to talk about, it's a rather short episode coming in at under a hour so we hope you enjoy everything we have to say!For full production and music credits, be sure to visit http://www.vooks.netSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/vooksdotnet)

Spirit's Xbox 360 has broken!- Member questions like Our favourite games and what we think of BWII- Upcoming releases- No bargains unfortunatelyPlus a new idea we have, where we take the wierdest and most random thing said during our recording and let everyone hear it instead of cutting it out.
