Episode Date
Get On A Bike!
01:15:04

Episode 220:

Our guest this time around is Robert Pandya, the team manager for International Motorcycle Show's Discover The Ride Initiative. Taking place primarily at the different IMS venues, (and some other places), DTR invites new and experienced riders, from kids to adults, to try out and enjoy five interactive riding zones, with the big one being an actual riding course on speed-limited Zero electric motorcycles. Instructors from Total Control Training provide guidance and instruction while safety gear comes from Cycle Gear, Shark, HJC, and Shoei. They got kids rolling around on Stacyc electric balance bikes. They let you get on a wheelie machine to feel what a wheelie is like. They got a dyno machine so you can sit on something that's really loud. It's equivalent to the 30 min trial dive you can do with Scuba stuff and hopefully, it spreads!

Get Your Hands Dirty
01:14:42

Episode 219:

On this thrilling episode, Chuck and Todd talk with Steve Knoble of Knoble Moto. Knoble Moto, from the website, is for the DIY mechanic who wants to learn more about repairing and maintaining their own motorcycles. Steve teaches out of Skidmark Garage in Cleveland, Ohio. He offers classes and workshops and even private classes about how to wrench on your own ride and get some self-satisfaction on accomplishing stuff. Or, be like Chuck, and toast marshmallows by the glow of the fire that you've turned your motorcycle into.

Ride It Like You Rent It?
01:22:26

Episode 215:

Joining us live tonight is Austin Rothbard of Twisted Road, a pretty badass service in the sharing industry that connects motorcycle owners with potential motorcycle renters. I could have just said AirBNB for motorcycles but I didn't. Until I did. As an example. You know what? Fuck you, that's what. Twisted Road seems like a pretty cool way to make a few bucks here and there with your motorcycles. We talked to Austin first during AIMExpo. Back then, he only had to deal with Chuck. Tonight, Austin will be answering to Todd and his weighty concerns about letting someone else even *touch* his precious motorcycles.

It's the end of another year and we cap it off with Chuck and Crash (from Cafe Racer Podcast) talking about their recent time at wheelie school! Clearly Not A Spook
01:50:33

Episode 211:

This week, we have Wes Fleming of BMW MOA's Chasing the Horizon Podcast. He's also got a YouTube channel called Nicht Uber Max, where he bangs on BMW bikes tools that are not checkbooks and credit cards. Stealing his bio from his podcast:

Wes tried being a rock star for 25 years, but gave all that up to focus on motorcycles. His mother still hasn’t forgiven him. The first new motorcycle he ever bought got run over by a car – with him still in the saddle. He discovered BMWs thanks to a friend in 2001 and has been riding trendy, not-so-trendy and sidecar-equipped BMWs ever since...

...plus a KTM.

PERFECT AIM
01:28:53

Episode 209:

We finally have recovered enough from the Las Vegas AIM Expo to get our shit together and edit together our first impressions and some interviews we recorded. It turns out Todd is awesome at ambush interviewing and Chuck is kind of a dick. Melinda and Jen were excited to be there. And this is Roe's second time and he was pleasantly surprised to have Todd who is good at starting interviews instead of Chuck who is kind of a dick.

Big show this time around. We have returning guest Larry Little, Vice President & General Manager, MIC Events. He's coming back to tell us about this year's AIMExpo happening in Las Vegas October 13-14 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. It's being combined this year with Las Vegas Bike Week to create Powersports Industry week so there's going to be a ton of events happening that you ought to go check out if you can make it. Both Todd and Chuck will be at this year's AIMExpo, stalking the floor and getting kicked out of VIP events. It's going to be awesome! Maybe if enough listeners show up and let us know, we'll all get together and get drunk and stumble around losing all our money.

Also, Chuck reports back on his trip to the Womens Sportsbike Rally. Spoiler alert: He never made it. Some pictures of the things that Chuck describes at length can be seen on our Flickr!

Riding For Social Change
01:02:30

Episode 202:

This time around, our guest is Malcolm Shabazz Hoover, community organizer and author of 144: ONE HUNDRED FORTY-FOUR POEMS AND ESSAYS FOR GOD, LOVE, TRUTH, JUSTICE, PEACE, AND HIP HOP. Malcolm is in the early stages of planning and preparing for Malcolm's American Ride. In his own words:

For a few years I've been watching the tide of racism rise in the United States. Racism is part of the founding consciousness of our country, and too many of us have no tools to deal with it. It's a dangerous, deadly cancer that has to be dealt with. We want to talk about it, but we don't know how so what happens is we stumble around hurting each other with our words. We want to make it better, but we don't know how. We don't have enough common language or tools to discuss these things. Some of us have been talking about these things for literally 400 years, others just started to think about it this year. We want everyone at the table to have what will be honest, hard discussions.
I love people, I love to travel and I love motorcycles. I thought "How cool would it be to build a bike, jump on it, ride the country and get people talking?" Not only will we gather and talk, where we can, we'll do projects together. Hell yeah.
Malcolm comes on to talk to us about social justice, riding motorcycles, and just trying to do some good in the world between people. You can follow his efforts:

Episode 197:

We gather up a bunch of podcasters for another roundtable to talk about the motorcycle industry and how to save it. Liza from Motorycles and Misfits has a plan. Joanne from Moterrific has an opinon. Ted from Motorcycle Men has a smooth, buttery radio voice. Larry from Creative Riding doesn't have a watch. Steve from Cafe Racer probably has a beer. And I have nothing funny to say about James from The Pace.

Rambling through the classifieds and we talk about how to go about buying a bike from one of them. Certainly now anything we would showcase on the show... unless you like handmade trikes that lumbered to life in someone's garage after appropiate blood sacrifices were made. See the Links section below for the link to our handy checklist that you can print out and take with you. It'll make you look more intimidating to sellers!

Where Everybody Knows You Wrench
01:54:30

Episode 192:

We put together a special roundtable interview for this episode. We've gathered together a number of Community Garage owners to talk about the Community Garage movement and their own individual garages. What's a Community Garage? It's a business that offers you a place and tools to wrench on your bike. And because it's a community, there's sure to be some folks there who can lend some knowledge and fill in the gaps. You pay a monthly fee and you have a place and resouces for all your wrenching needs.

Bedazzled For Hire
01:19:18

Episode 188:

Chuck's back and Charlie's brexited! We catch up with each other and also welcome back Friend Of Show, Nichole! She's literally at Sturgis and gives up a live update on what it's like there. She also gives us the idea for our next great money-making scheme of mobile bedazzling Ural booth at next year's Sturgis. For some weird reason, I've completely lost all the links for this week's classifieds. So...yeah, that's a thing.

Episode 186:

Hi! It's been a minute. Between Todd's vacation and Chuck's honeymoon combined with computer issues on the machine that we've been using for editing, well, it's taken some work to get this episode together but here we go. This week, we're talking with Brandon Holzworth of Nuviz, the HUD-display for Motorcycles. We managed to time it just as Chuck got his hands on one of the Nuviz units to try out on his helmet. We also learn some dark secrets about Todd's past when it comes to food.

Butts and Hot Soup
02:10:49

Episode 185:

This week, Chuck turns in his on-site interview with Seth Laam of Laam Seats (http://laamseats.com), a customizer of motorcycle seats that your butt will love. We booked a ride-in appointment to Seth's location in Redding, CA and promptly screwed that up because Chuck is bad at calendars. Seth took it all in stride and sat down with Chuck the day after to continually remind him how bad he was at that. He talks about his history and his approach to crafting seats and a bunch of stuff in between. It's a LONG show this time around. I think this one beats out the Morrow one by a bit and clocks in right around the two hour mark total. We had a great time chatting with Seth and he's an awesome dude to hang out with while he's griding something to fit your ass. Riding back from California was a joy on a Laam seat. Meanwhile, Todd got to hold down the fort and meet a listener, proving that he is real.

NO WIDE LOAD PARKING
01:25:36

Episode 183:

On this episode, we got some stories to tell and welcome a new sponsor to the show, Surf and Summit Motorcycle, by getting on Steve from S&S to come on and tell us about his new business and what he's offering to riders that come to New Hampshire and Maine. We also mention how Nuviz is back from radio silence and looks to be accomplishing what the more publicly-visible Skully crashed and burned at: releasing a product. Todd can't park. Chuck can't fit into jackets. Ya know, the normal.

01:32:44

Episode 182:

We decided to juggle the show order around because we wanted to give our listeners plenty of time to hear about this guest and what's she's got going on. We're talking with Pat Jacques, life long rider and coach, and her rally, the Advwoman Rally. It's the adventure motorcycle rally by women, for women & their families. It's being held July 20-23 in Granby, CO and promises to have a lot to offer to both male and female riders looking for some adventure riding! Pat tells us a bit about herself and what drove her to start a rally and what she had set out to do with it. If you got the time and can make it, it sounds like it'd be a really unique and fun experience! Pat also lets us know about the Colorado Backcountry Discovery Women Ride happening 7/23-7/30!

Her Hot Pink Z-Rated Capris
01:42:11

Episode 178:

This week, our guest is Brittany Morrow. She is well-known as the Road Rash Queen, who, in her own words: "On September 25, 2005, Brittany was involved in a life changing accident as a passenger on a GSXR 750. She wrote a first-hand account of her experience on the first anniversary of the crash. The article went viral and has since been re-published on over 200 occasions. Due to the overwhelming response to her story, Brittany has dedicated her life to the promotion of motorcycle safety, the use of safety apparel and the education of riders regarding these important aspects of the sport.  She partnered with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation in 2008 to create a web based campaign, RocktheGear.org, urging all riders to “Rock the Gear.”"

She comes on to tell her story and what she's done since then to raise awareness as well as recover physically and mentally from her accident. This is a LONG interview and is really awesome listening and hope you guys enjoy it as much as we did. For more info about the group ride she talked about, go check out http://brittanymorrow.com/

Episode 169:

A couple weeks back, Chuck ordered off for a LidPicker, brought to us by the fine folks at Motorcyclegear.com. After being pretty pleased with the results of the recommended helmet, we convinced Paul and Aaron to come on to talk about the company and the LidPicker as well as do a live measuring of Todd to see what the system had to say about HIS head. After trying it out, we think the LidPicker is a pretty damned neat idea. Be sure to go check it out the next time you're shopping for a helmet.

Take That, The Cohost!

Episode 164:

After a long hiatus from the internet-waves, James from the Pace Podcast joins us for a good old fashioned ramble cast where we take some time to catch up with the veteran podcaster, get a quick update about the Pace, and then go on to shoot all kinds of crap all over this fun hobby world of motorcycling.

I am not going to post the link to the video of the unfortunate accident we talk about in the show. Just... no. Don't be a Billy. Don't ride stupid. Don't ride on the back of stupid. And if you're in the front, think about the responsibility you have to the safety of the person behind you much less to yourself, ya numbskull. We all see way too many bikes with two people riding foolishly.

No Ride Up Anywhere
59:30
Episode 162! Chuck recaps the horror that was him trying to have a nice time when he caught up with the First Ride Up the Divide guys and attempted to tag along. Wanted to give a shoutout here to Randy and Tammy of Unique Rides in Fort Collins for getting the Ural patched up in time for me to at least ride it home without taking extra PTO. I'm re-including the links for the Ride itself. I think I might have made it into one of them...

Chuck is bad at guest pictures

Rick Grassadonia is coming on to explain SENA‘s product line to us and tell us, finally, what we should be using for our riding needs. He also gives us the scoop on their coming smart helmet, which looks ready to straight up revolutionize helmet and sound technology. He also apparently rides an HD. But we do not hold that against him. He’s a good guy.

This week, we’re talking with Sharon Faith, moto-vlogger. If you follow her on Facebook, you’ll see she’s always on the go. She was recently at Daytona Bike Week and she comes on to give us the lowdown from that and her other adventures. She also clues us in on Motostays, a home-sharing network for motorcycle travelers by motorcycle travelers that, I think, has something to do with motorcycles and traveling. Chuck and Todd also have a laugh about the last show. And our usual shenanigans.

Sharon Faith is our guest. You can find her on: http://www.motomavenlife.com and https://www.facebook.com/motomavenlife. From her bio:

…. born and raised in Oak Harbor, Washington…that is the largest and most northern city on Whidbey Island…a beautiful place nestled in the cold waters of the Puget Sound.  I always feel very lucky to have been born in such an amazing part of the USA.
I have been obsessed with motorcycles from a very early age, really as long as i can remember.  I had not had the chance to actually “drive” one before, however I had been on the back of many and was always watching the controls, wishing, wanting and hoping to own one someday. After completing the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course, I purchased my first bike and loved it for 25,000 miles then someone had told me to purchase a copy of Lois on the Loose by  Lois Pryce. Her story of determination and passion for adventure on 2 wheels changed my life!

I since have ridden a variety of motorcycles, 25 US states as well as Australia, Nicaragua, Peru, Canada and Mexico.  As I traverse this world I meet people from all walks of life, and if I am lucky they ride motorcycles too…I am inspired by their stories and their journey… Here is a collection of some of the amazing souls i have been blessed to encounter… For the Love of 2 Wheels: My personal inspirations from around the globe.
