Description

It's so easy to fall into comparisonitis as an entrepreneur… and in Karly's life long journey through entrepreneurship she has come to understand that, regardless of your level of success, fame or fortune, we all suffer from the same stories of fear, struggle and failure at times. The aim of this podcast is to eliminate the separation between ourselves and success. To know that it's possible and a reality for all of us. And to lower the guru guard and see what really lies underneath. Guests range from newbies (those who have launched their first ever event, product or service) to seasoned professionals who have done it all and seemingly have it all. It's chock a block full of inspiring stories, business tips and takeaways to implement into your life for positive change.

Growing up white and racist in Australia and where we can start dismantling our own racism
28:46
Whist I've been engaged in many private conversations this week, I've had hesitations about sharing publicly...
Firstly, I am not Aboriginal and, secondly, I'm certainly not an expert. Like, at all... by any stretch of the imagination. Oh and thirdly, I've got stuff I'm absolutely still learning and unlearning. I absolutely have bias - conscious and unconscious. But without awareness nothing can, or will, EVER change. I'm not here for that.
It's become heartbreakingly obvious to me that many were not given the same education or experiences as I have. And so many of you honestly don't know where to start.
I don't believe it should be solely the responsibility of our Indigenous brothers and sisters to educate us. 230 years of trying to tell us can only be exhausting and frustrating. It's time for us to step up.
So here are some super practical places you can start.
Learn our history. It's brutal and ugly and totally fucked up. Don't look away. Take it onboard.
In the early 90s I had an incredible rogue teacher who taught us the truth of Australia's history. I'm so grateful to this incredible woman. Here is one of the videos she shared with us back in the early 90s (be prepared to cry - it's heartbreaking):
Edit: a few people shared the film ‘In My Blood It Runs’. I’ll be watching it this weekend. Here’s how you can too: https://https://inmyblooditruns.com/screenings/
Learn about the land you live on. Know what country you are on and know more about the people who inhabited it for 60000 years before we arrived.
Here's a map so you can find out which Indigenous nation you reside: http://nationalunitygovernment.org/…/aboriginal-australia-m…
But that's only the beginning of the genocide. Check out this map to learn more about what happened on your own country: https://c21ch.newcastle.edu.au/colonialmassacres/map.php
Go study Australian history. Our education system has, and continues, to let us down in this area. And I would like to see MASSIVE change when it comes to what is taught in school. A common comment from the friends I've been speaking with this week is that they know more about other countries and cultures than they do our own. And that could all change in one generation, if we learned this stuff early on.
But it's easy to blame the system. It means we, as individuals, get to pass the buck. That's not good enough.
Education starts at home.
There are often plenty of resources available via your local library. You can often find local language resources and books about local culture and history. One simple trick is to type which Country you live on into the search box at your library. See what comes up.
Edited to add: Here’s a couple of websites that are not indigenous run but are created in consultation:
Have conversations with your children about what they know... share what you are learning with them. They are NEVER too young. I've been having these conversations with my little one since before she was old enough to understand.
There are some seriously amazing kids books out there. I remember loving the dreamtime books as a kid - Rainbow Serpent was a fav of mine and now my daughter. These should all be at your local library and school. Plus, check out Magabala Books for some great reads (adults and kids, fiction and non-fiction - it's all there): https://www.magabala.com/
Listen to Indigenous stories and voices. Here's a few podcasts that I LOVE....
Obviously, Indigenous Health MedTalks (because I produce it).
Tiddas 4 Tiddas
Always was, always will be our stories (Marlee Silva's new podcast - she was the host of Tiddas 4 Tiddas)
Black Magic Woman
A few days ago I shared a document that contained details of places you can donate and campaigns you can lend your voice to. Go check that out.
Ask your kids school what Australian history the kids are learning. Ask the school what cultural education programs they are running. Are they doing acknowledgement of Country? Is there any Indigenous language being learned?
Get involved. Naidoc is coming up in July. Plenty of opportunities to connect and celebrate.
We have the oldest living cultures in the history of the planet on our doorstep, but we've been too in our own shit to listen and learn.
Hope this helps!
If you have other resources, feel free to add them to the thread. This is obviously just one post and a bit of a starting point.
Let's do the work. xx

Bonus ep: Karlosophies - The Musical
02:02
Note from Karly:

SURPRISE!!!

Lately, I've been feeling the call to create... and music has been screaming my name. But I'm not a musician. I mean, I play like half a dozen chords on the uke. And I transition between them about as elegantly as a baby elephant. Yet, music... songwriting... kept calling.

Today, I drove out to the back of Uki for singing lessons and my incredible teacher, Lisa Brown, gave me a total hippy woo songwriting lesson. She asked me to connect to my womb, and write. I couldn't quite get to the womb, but my solar plexus was yelling out 'pick me'. So I did. And this poured out.

We played with it on piano... Lisa suggested I go home and see if I can figure out garageband. So I did. Had a play. Recorded the words, added some different tracks and this was the end result. Might add some singing at a later stage. We'll see.

It is what it is. I loved every second of creating this. I hope it impacts you, as much as it's creation has me.

Enjoy.

This... is only the beginning.

Ep 173, Free Flow Convo - Masculinity Femininity Humanity and getting the fuck out of your head so you can speak YOUR truth
21:38
On today’s episode Karly dives into a listener question – Georgie asked in the Show up Speak up group“I’ve been thinking about being in our feminine presence, In regards to being fully present. How do we get out of our head bubble and into our bodies so we can embody our message and share it in an authentic way?”

Karly discusses how the balance between masculine and feminine is just two sides of the same coin and how embracing both sides requires you to be fully in your truth. Karly speaks about how staying in your truth requires continual practice. Your truth is who you really are – truth is not feminine or masculine it transcends gender. Your truth is not gender specific it is universal – it’s a truth that lives beyond your body.

Today Karly explores how ME she can be. How she can revel in all her perfect imperfection and sing with joy, abandon, and FEELING! She looks at how she can create that feeling of full expression in all areas of her life. Karly challenges you, the listener, to reach out and explore the areas of your life where you think; “I can’t do that” or “I’m no good at that” and ask yourself what if that wasn’t true? 14:53

Ep 170, Free Flow Convo: What is Integrity Anyway?
18:48

**Trigger warning** Shit is about to get real!

Karly is in full truth teller mode today as she gets real about integrity in business and in life. Going from the woman who punched herself in the mirror to the woman who is called to be an artist and creator. Karly has been on a journey to discover, listen to and trust her inner voice and really LOVE the person who she sees looking back at her.
Often she has wondered if her need to be in full integrity was just another way for her inner rebel to sabotage her success. If ditching her email list was one more way for the inner rebel to say FU to the marketing gurus, or if it was truly in full integrity.
Now she sees that it wasn’t until she fully surrendered that all the bullsh*t fell away revealing what she undeniably wants and how if she is to fully claim that dream and make it a reality, she MUST stand for her full, honest, raw, truth. She must be in full integrity and she asks you, the listener, are you ready to be there too?

Are you ready to stand for your dream? To ditch the BS and BE who you actually fu*king want to be?

So the question is: What is YOUR truth? What are you willing to stand for? What is the dream that you are willing to stop dicking around with all the other BS and fully give yourself over to and start being a human BEING, not a human doing?

Share your thoughts in the Show Up Speak UP Group and if you feel called to, claim one of Karly's one on one sessions by emailing her here.

Ep 169, Free Flow Convo: Practice and the battle of the inner rebel
15:46
In today’s episode, Karly talks about her resistance to practicing, consistency and following the rules. The theme of being unable to be consistent with practice has shown up frequently for Karly, and this has caused Karly’s inner rebel to say a big F-U to following the rules. Karly has often found herself wanting to be excellent at all things while not having the discipline to do the work necessary to gain a standard of excellence.

Listen in as Karly talks about how bringing musical practice into her life, has helped to change her view on following the rules. With the boundaries that music provides, Karly has found herself softening into the rules help to create space for creativity. This then allows her to step out of the rebel (control freak) persona and move more deeply into the role of creator and artist.

3:31 - “the rebel me is like f**k you! I don’t practice, I don’t need to practice, I’m just inherently worthy”

5:19 - Jonathan Fields - The good life project podcast - Power Norms and rules.

7:27 - Press the keys and THAT’S the creating!

11:34 The rule breaker persona is a control freak and doesn’t want to be told what to do.

Ep 161, Is finding your purpose a universal concept? An anonymous conversation
46:38
This conversation is one of the many conversations Karly wants to dish out to her listeners as she starts to divert from the stories behind success format.
While at her Byron Bay event, a Karlosophies listener  asked her question on life’s purpose and she wants to dig deeper of that here in this convo.
Was finding work with purpose and meaning a universal concept? Or was it something reserved only for those in privileged, peaceful countries?
Here is a story of a woman who grew up from a substantially rich family in Kiev, Ukraine who had to left the country because of Jewish oppression to a money wrecked, financially struggling family when they migrated to Israel. She grew up in conflict and escalation, with constant threats of bombs and explosions.  She worked hard in her corporate life ‘til she decided that she had enough of Israel’s wars and troubles.
With her husband and kids, she took a transfer and moved to Australia and she had seen and experience how culturally and dynamically different Oz from where she had lived most of her life.  Did she finally find her life’s purpose? Listen to find out.

01:01:53
After more than 20 years in the corporate world and 10 years studying and advocating Nutritional Medicine, natural health and wellness, Ros discovered Human Design, or perhaps it discovered her?

She reads their chart with the intention of giving them a real understanding and acceptance of who they are and what they are here to do.

Even still, the likelihood of the cancer returning is around 50%.

There is a trial in the states, which Ryder is eligible for, that is showing great promise and starts at around $160,000US. In order to go, Kath needs to raise around AU$250-300k... and Karly wants them to go very badly.

Ep 150, Free Flow Convo: Exposing My Singer
18:43
Welcome to the 150th episode of Karlosophies. We’ve come this far and even Karly can’t believe it.
To celebrate this milestone, Karly shares one of her very hidden talents: Singing... Yes, she can sing and she’s pretty good. It may not be technically perfect but she is learning to allow herself to fully express herself through music.
She recalls as a child, vulnerably sharing her voice with those close to her, and their response - which was very lackluster. After all these years of denying herself one of her true loves, now is the time to fully explore and learn to trust herself.
Karly puts it all on the line when she takes you behind the scenes of her first singing lesson in over 20 years… and learns there’s no need to be the best. Let’s just be ourselves and accepts our full being, may it be brilliant or just meh.. it’s always perfectly imperfect.

Ep 146, Free Flow Convo: When Speaking Up Feels Uncomfortable
16:13
In this free flow, Karly shares how she dealt with friction that sometimes can't be avoided when collaborating with people. She speaks about what led her to go out on her own and what drives her to be a great boss.
Karly lets us know why it is important to stand firm with our decisions, speak up about it when we believe we are right and stop apologising for our feelings.
Resentment can build up when we accept things that aren't okay but do nothing about it. It is better to address issues from the start so that we can look at the mirror and be proud of what looks back at us. We need to honour ourselves, first.
Another real, raw and a little bit ranty conversation.

Ep 136, Lisa Orkin: The Unfunny Reality Of Purpose And Potential
01:05:57
Lisa Orkin or Dorkin Orkin, as some call her (probably, herself) has been mixing comedy, story, and marketing for over 20 years. She has created award winning commercials with the Radio Ranch and award winning Indie films with the likes of Adam Mckay and Shira Piven. She's a comedian, actor, writer, podcaster, audio director and a veteran solo artist, and storyteller.
Lisa has lots of crazy good ideas and she can write comedy dialogue like no one's business, has a special super power to tell a story with a beginning, middle and end in under 60 seconds (check out her instagram feed), is a snazzy dresser and has a tailless cat named Violet. But she's not superhuman after all. She admits she's a terrible smoothie maker, can't draw, organize a drawer or park and drive like a grandma. She hates spreadsheets and coloring in the lines.
She can be present at your luncheon, yoga studio, living room or little or big business conference to tell you funny stories, teach you how to use comedy in marketing, how to get comfy on camera, in public or on a date. She has done all these things quite a bunch and like it and they like her and she has been known to bring special guests.

She's having a career change and not sure how it will go, but it will definitely involve doing comedy and having women's parties across America. Where mixture of laughter, cries, sharing and learning to take leaps. She has this awesome idea of mixing comedy and helping people brainstorm creative ideas for marketing and branding and anything streaming.
Check out Lisa's awesome podcast, Honestly Lisa. And, once again, check out her rad instagram feed - @lisaorkingram, connect with her on facebook and learn more about Lisa at honestlylisa.com

Ep 132, Scott Frankland: Escaping From An Emotional Prison Through Spending Time In A Literal Prison
01:13:25
Scott grew up suffering my from depression, low self esteem and insecurity after his parents divorced when he was 6. He felt inferior to the other kids whose parents were still together, and always compared himself to others finding any reason to make another person better than him.

He didn't know how to make himself feel good and felt as if he didn't have positive role models in his life.

In high school and university he suffered from anxiety, stress and pressure. In particular social anxiety where he was constantly feeling shy, awkward, uncomfortable, unconfident, and fearing rejection.

After completing his degree in Exercise Science at Wollongong University, he found himself emotionally trapped in running his first gym. Not knowing how to get out or find genuine help he ended up with severe depression as the business didn't work out how he imagined it would.

He lacked emotional intelligence, business skills, communication skills and basic life skills. From there he started his journey to find help. Psychologist/ psychiatrists/ life coaches/ nlp practitioners/ reiki coaches , you name it no one could get him emotionally get him to where he wanted to be, and this led him to feeling frustrated, helpless and hopeless.

From there he started partying a lot. He would party for days. It was the only way he knew how to feel confident, happy and relaxed. But, he paid the price dealing with the come downs and numbing himself to life.

He then attempted to work and train all week at his gym. Needless to say, he suffered, his business suffered, his clients suffered, and eventually he ended up leaving the lot as his ego had the better of him and his addictions took over his life.

He moved interstate and then overseas, only having to be flown home not long after by his family after being rushed to hospital in an ambulance suffering severe panic attacks. He was emotionally more out of control than ever.

After returning home to Australia he decided he needed help. He was in and out hospitals seeing more doctors/psychs/counsellors no one could help him. He was lost.

He was now at a point in his life where he had to face up to facts.
He had an unresolved court case in Victoria where he flew down on his own accord to hand himself in and have his court date re set, only to be arrested and jailed for 18 months for drugs charges. He had finally hit his rock bottom.

He felt incredible amounts of guilt for what he had put his family and friends through over the past 5 years.

He was scared, intimidated and fearful for his life, not knowing what to expect. It was the first time in his life, he was all alone. He had to think for himself to survive.

At this point he realised he didn't know how his mind worked, he didn't know who he was or what his purpose in life was meant to be.

At this point he found a spiritual teacher in there. She teaches small business courses but teaches more about life and life skills to those who would listen.

His way of thinking had led him to that place, he didn't want to be there, and he didn't want to go back, so he listened and implemented everything she taught him. She helped him realise that there is no difference between being in jail emotionally and being in jail in reality. If he wanted to free him himself of jail he needed to learn how to do it emotionally first.

At this point Scott created a method that he uses today, that switches off and releases negative emotions out your body. He was amazed how powerful it was and how quickly it worked.

He showed his teacher the method, it worked for her too! She said Scotty your onto something very powerful here you need to get it out there and help people with this, the world we live in needs a lot of healing and more healers like you.

So from that day Scott realised his life's purpose is to get his method out there and help people.

Scott has been out for 4 years now. In that time he has set up a business and helped many people with mental health and emotional issues, relationship issues, performance coaching for athletes, body and wellbeing transformations, the lot!

Scott has a degree in Exercise Science, cert 3 & 4 in Fitness and Personal Training, is a qualified reiki practitioner and has his cert 4 in Training & Assessment.

Scott has helped emotionally transform the lives of hundreds of people in The Sutherland Shire, and Australia wide, in his 1 on 1 private consultations, workshops, seminars and retreats.

He has been a presenter at Seminars & Workshops on his area of expertise for the following:

-Men's Mental Health & Wellbeing at Orana Hub Coastal Caringbah in 2015
-Cyber Bullying at Concord Library 2015
-Mental Health & Wellbeing Workshop at Tradies Gymea in The Sutherland Shire 2016
-CPC Psychic Expo at WIN Stadium in Wollongong 2016
-Psychic Expo at Sutherland Serviceman's Club 2016

Scott believes in leading by example because actions speak louder than words. He says to have credibility in the eye of another, you must possess the qualities that those who follow want for themselves. He follows this by stating if a teacher does their job properly, the student will overtake the teacher and take the learnings to the next level.

Scott's goals that he has achieved since hitting rock bottom in jail are inspiring. He symbolises motivation, inspiration, overcoming adversity and leadership.

Ep 110, Bronnie Ware: A Tale Of Courage, Surrender And Breaking Through Upper Limits
47:10
Bronnie Ware has been called many things. Above all she is authentic and bravely lives how her heart guides, free of any such labels or expectations.
Bronnie's calling is to lead by courageous example; a calling she honours with integrity. Having sat by bedsides of the terminally ill for several years, she knows the pain of dying with regret. Bronnie also understands the value of humour and being real. Consequently she exercises her power of choice with consciousness on a daily basis.
While acknowledging how much courage it can take to truly allow all we deserve through, Bronnie believes we are all worthy of joy. Her work and teachings draw on first-hand experience, always delivered with relatable honesty. With a grounded attitude and great sense of humour, Bronnie connects to people from all walks of life.
Her incredible life experience goes well beyond the years with dying people and has taught her how much we are all alike, rather than different. This attitude also connects Bronnie easily and delightfully to her audience worldwide, particularly once they experience her energy in person at live events. Some of Bronnie's favourite things are to combine her talents into fun-filled stage presentations, as well as getting people off their computers and back to real-life conversations and experiences. Her life so far has also taught her how important it is to enjoy the precious gift of time we are given, by courageously living as true to our heart as possible.
Bronnie's favourite role is as a mother. Her favourite teacher is nature.
She lives in northern New South Wales, Australia and is a dear friend of mine. I'm so honoured to share this chat between two friends.

In 2012, The Merrymaker Sisters - also known as Emma and Carla Papas - discovered a different way of living...
They were fed up with counting calories and sick of the guilt they felt after eating, with low self-esteem and super confused by all the information that was being thrown at them. They were in this obsessive whirlwind of fad diets, quick fixes and negative body image. 'Health' used to mean: losing weight, eating less and more exercise. And then they found another way, a better way, a much more fun and delish-filled way to live, and wanted to share it with everyone.
Their philosophy is less stress is best, in every possible way. ESPECIALLY when it comes to food. They believe that people have better things to do than feel guilty about past meals and anxious about what you're going to eat next.
Life doesn't have to be controlled around the food you eat. When you live a Merrymaker Lifestyle, you eat real food. And real food rocks. They don't care if you're paleo, vegan, vegetarian, LCHF, raw, etc.
The Merrymaker Lifestyle is about adding more GOOD to your life (and your plate!).

Ep 101, Dan Norris: Wherever You Go, There You Are
56:13
Dan Norris is a serial entrepreneur, 4X best-selling author and international speaker.
In 2013 he was 2 weeks away from unemployment after 8 straight years of business failure. In the next week, without any funding, he launched a WordPress support service called WP Curve, providing ongoing small fixes for a monthly fee.
Within 2 years, it was a $1m business with over 40 developers in 7 countries and thousands of clients. He sold the business to GoDaddy in 2016.
Instead of messing around trying to validate ideas or debating things with his entrepreneurial friends during this process, he just launched. Then he made decisions based on real information from real customers to build the business. He now helps other entrepreneurs do the same thing via his books and private mastermind.

Ep 97, Amy Wright: Giving It All Up To Become The Drunk Mom
01:20:13

First and foremost, Amy Wright is a mom and has been her entire freaking adult life. She didn't used to drink at all... and then she had a teenager. It was self medication or the nut house, ya'll.

Amy and her husband have 5 kids in their blended family and yes, they know what causes it so please don't ask or she'll make shit real awkward for you.

She started her online business in 2009 and tried to fit into a little box of elevator speeches and niches and "5 secrets to blah, blah, blah" for yeeeeeears. And shit just didn't work out for her the way she wanted.

She got sick of trying to squeeze her ass into that little box. So she gave it the double bird and ripped that box apart, piece by piece.
She finally embraced her gift of humor and became The Drunk Mom, making videos about life, parenting, embarrassing moments and brutal honesty. BOOM... awesome explosion!

Ep 43, Melitta Hardenberg: Breaking Bad Habits And Living Outside Your Comfort Zone
50:48
As the Chief Habit Breaker at Breaking Bad Habits, Melitta has had a long history of making and breaking habits. Having kicked a smoking habit nearly a decade ago, she found she needed to dust off the old habit breaking formula after a health diagnosis forced her to make some serious changes to her lifestyle. Finding quitting cookies harder than quitting smoking she quickly discovered she wasn't alone. So she left her high flying corporate role as leading national and global organisational change programs and started a program for women whose struggle with health is more of a mental battle than a physical one.

Sarah dedicates every waking moment, when she's not flat on her back in pain from a life changing accident that left her to deal with chronic pain on a daily basis, to the girls of Rafiki Mwema.
