Ava, Mark, and Brielle take refuge in an abandoned home. They plan their trek for the next few days, while also talking about past relationships. When they finally get close to the Arizona/California border they learn of a planned military attack. But can they avoid the confrontation?

Ava and Mark are unable to escape the encroaching fire. Smoke fills the woods causing their horse to panic. Ava and Mark soon find themselves separated from each other after a near-fatal fall. As they try to find their way back to each other, they relive memories of the days leading up to the New York convention.

Jay, Ambridge, and Kylie are making good distance on the bikes. They eventually set up camp in the middle of nowhere. A pristine area that has yet to be hit. That doesn't mean there aren't any dangers, as Kylie soon finds out when she awakens the next morning.

After their bout with a malnourished bear, Ava and Mark pack their things and search for the missing horses. Eventually they stumble upon Blue, grazing. They now have transport out of the woods, but things may not be that easy. When Ava and Mark find a large convoy of people heading north, they discover the forest may still hold some not-so-nice surprises.

After listening to another one of Preacher Smith's rants, Jay gets a crazy idea.

Mark is furious to find that Stephanie has left Ava behind, even though she claims Ava told her to. Mark wants to go back for her, but because it's dark and Madison has been bitten, Stephanie refuses. But that doesn't stop Mark, who takes matters into his own hands.

Mark and Ava once again find themselves in a bind. That is, until a swarm of shriekers rush onto the property. After offering some help, the owner of the farmhouse, Teddy, offers them some breakfast. While discussing the horrific events of the alien invasion, Teddy proposes an opportunity for Mark and Ava. But will they accept?

Ambridge thinks maybe he has a chance to find his parents at the zone, although he's not getting his hopes up. Jay is then put in a position that he was hoping wouldn't arise. Can he make the hard choice?

Ambridge confronts Ava about her secret. With danger looming, Ava tries to talk her way out of trouble. Her escape plan seems to be put on hold until creatures swarm the base, putting her plan into high gear as Ambridge decides to stop scolding and actually help.

After surviving the car wreck, Ava and company try to distance themselves from the road. While exploring a gas station they come face to face with a new threat; something they haven't seen before. It's not long before they are once again running for their lives.
