Description

In this American podcast about an American musical about a bastard orphan, I (your host Gillian Pensavalle) talk to my co-hosts and guests about all things Hamilton including how it brings people together, how we find Ham references in everyday life, and the general brilliance of the show: from cast, crew, and creatives involved in the production, to the minds behind some of the best social media accounts inspired by Hamilton, to teachers who use the music to get their students excited about history, and everything in between. The discussion of Ron Chernow's "Alexander Hamilton" starts in episode three. If you're interested, please feel free to read along with us; we'll be going chapter-by-chapter and provide detailed and reference-heavy outlines for each #Cherpter. But there's no pressure! There's plenty to talk about and this is not a super serious history class. When I started this podcast in January of 2016, I could not have imagined the incredible community that has built around the show and the amazing experiences that have come my way. Thank you to everyone who has listened, appeared on the show, contributed, or reached out in any way. This podcast for you and I absolutely love making it. If you have any great Ham stories or funny references you've come across, let me know! I love hearing about things like that. Email TheHamilcast [at] gmail [dot] com, or contact me on social media @TheHamilcast. I have the honor to be your obedient servant,
G.Pen

Episode #129: I came as soon as I heard // #LasVegust Part One
44:30

Welcome to three weeks of Hamilton's Philip Company! I took Mike, my Right Hand Man, to Las Vegas and we had the best time. We saw Hamilton, talked to the cast and musicians, and I have three weeks of recordings for you!

First up, Fergie Philippe (Mulligan/Madison) comes back to The Hamilcast for a solo recording. Fergie is the one of the main reasons I went to Vegas (Tyler McKenzie and Julian Ramos helped), and he unfortunately couldn't make the big recording with members of the Philip Company. Since Fergie is the nicest, he asked if he could still be part of #LasVegust (Get it? Because the Las Vegas episodes are airing in August?) and offered to come to hang in our hotel room and chat about Hamilton and tour life.

Check out Fergie's first appearance on The Hamilcast (with Julian Ramos) in these episodes:

Stay tuned next week for the first half of my chat with Nik Walker, Kyle Scatliffe, Shoba Narayan, Ta'Rea Campbell, Elijah Malcomb, Tyler McKenzie, Conroe Brooks, Abby Jaros, Austin Burket, Buffi Jacobs, and Lily Ling.

Episode #128: And I’m tryin’ not to cry ‘cause there’s nothing that your mind can’t do // Part Three
42:46

In Alex Lacamoire's third episode Alex talks about how electronic sounds are used in Hamilton, why the orchestrations of It's Quiet Uptown destroy us every single time we listen to it, more musical themes, and finally... we do Barbershop Beastie Boys. Alex, please come back!

(It's Quiet Uptown is discussed and played from 12:00-14:45 and again from 16:30-21:05)

Episode #127: And I’m tryin’ not to cry ‘cause there’s nothing that your mind can’t do // Part Two
49:34

Alex Lacamoire is back to blow our minds once again which is crazy because I'm still not over last week's episode. This week we dive into Lin-Manuel Miranda's favorite arrangements and how Alex came to make them: Yorktown (YAASSSS!!!), Wait For It (SRSLY YOU'RE NOT READY), One Last Time ("f@%k you strings!"), and That Would Be Enough (Alex brought something that even Lin hasn't heard yet - yes, there were tears). Oh! AND! Alex plays an exclusive track you can't hear anywhere else called "Hamilton Finale Idea" and while neither Alex, LMM, nor Thomas Kail remember exactly what it was for I can promise you that your world will never be the same.

Episode #126: And I’m tryin’ not to cry ‘cause there’s nothing that your mind can’t do // Part One
56:37

Sir Alex Lacamoire is here! For THREE EPISODES! Get ready, you guys, your minds are about to be blown. Mike joins me for #JuLac and Alex was kind enough to bring an electric piano and play us ALL THE THINGS. In this first episode, Alex tells us all about The Schuyler Sisters, the song that went through the most changes. But he doesn't just tell us... he brought all the demos so we get to HEAR the evolution of the song. We also play a little game I like to call "In the style of..." and Alex plays his favorite Hamilton song in the style of Billy Joel, Rush, Fiona Apple, and Tori Amos. This episode is packed. We had the most fun ever and I hope you love it.

Episode #125: You simply must meet Thomas. Thomas! // Part Two
52:15

Hamilton director Tommy Kail is back again this week and I am reminded, by Tommy, that no one thinks I'm laid back. In this episode Tommy talks about the casting process including how Hamilton has the feeling of a family reunion, and he gives his opinion on what happens in the very last moment of the show. In non-Hamilton related topics, Tommy tells the story of how he and Lin-Manuel Miranda ended up in the Sex and the City movie, his experience directing Grease LIVE!, and why "Mona Lisa" by Slick Rick is a defining song for him.

Episode #124: You simply must meet Thomas. Thomas! // Part One
52:22

That's Thomas as in KAIL. YES! TOMMY. KAIL. CAME. OVER. It was super fun and we are naturally at 1.5x speed. Tommy tells me all about the upcoming Hamilton exhibition in Chicago, opening this November, and how the job of a director changes (or doesn't) as a production evolves. We bond over It's a Wonderful Life, Tommy reminds cast members who are alums of The Hamilcast that he *does* hear the stories they tell, I teach him the correct names of Hamilton songs, and Tommy confirms that he is not in fact Alex Lacamoire. OR IS HE??? He's not, you guys, they just both have really fantastic hair.

Have I mentioned that Hamilton and In The Heights director and all around excellent human Thomas Kail hung out with me for a few hours? Because it still feels ridiculous.

Hamilton dresser Chris Leary is back to tell us all about why we should all go to Puerto Rico on our next vacation (or help any way we can), how the energy at Hamilton is always changing, and that one time the turntable broke during My Shot and wasn't fixed until after You'll Be Back, and about a million other things. Hooray!

Episode #122: This is the eye of the hurricane // Part One
01:02:06

Chris gives backstage details from a dresser's perspective, explains how he almost didn't go to the opening night of Hamilton, and proudly declares himself a Tonya Harding truther. We also discuss how excellent he is at Halloween, why I'm #TeamJoanna Jones when it comes to pranks, and we get on the phone with the one and only Lexi Lawson.

Episode #121: ...Passage on a ship that was New York bound // Part Two
36:21

Hamilton Broadway swing Robert Walters is back this week! Robert talks what it's like to be an Australian in a show that has reinvigorated such an interest in American History, he tells us what he yells during The Room Where it Happens, sends love to Karen Olivo and Miguel Cervantes, and!! He does impressions of fellow cast members James Monroe Iglehart, Jevon McFerrin, and Eddy Lee. We had the best time! Enjoy!

Episode #120: ...Passage on a ship that was New York bound // Part One
56:05

Robert Walters, a swing in Hamilton on Broadway, is here to drink Robitos (aka mojitos) and tell me about how a boy from Oz made it to Broadway! We talk his Australian roots, work visa woes, his crazy Hamilton audition story, his origins with Hamilton in Chicago, how in love he is with his wife Jen (it's adorable, you guys), and that time he told Alex Lacamoire to piss off. SPOILER: it all ends well, fam! And over the course of his two episodes, Rob and I decide that we were most likely separated at birth.

Episode #119: When you knock me down I get the fuck back up again // Part Two
50:36

Andrés Forero is back and we kick off Part Two with questions from Sir Alex Lacamoire himself! We talk a LOT about Yorktown (and Rage Against the Machine, believe it or not), and many of the other tracks on which Andrés made his mark or how Andrés' puts it: “it’s a tiny fingerprint on a little tiny piece of a masterpiece.” And for the first time in the history of The Hamilcast... there are outtakes!

Episode #118: When you knock me down I get the fuck back up again // Part One
47:23

Andrés Forero is the drummer for Hamilton on Broadway and has known the Hamilton Cabinet since In the Heights. We had so much fun and get ready to feel both super calm and very empowered. In this episode Andrés talks how the band Rush sparked his music career, what it's like being the Jazz Ambassador to the UN, and his journey to Hamilton. We also touch on why neither a life changing car accident nor losing hearing in his left ear don't define the incomparable Andrés Forero.

Episode #116: We just assume that it happens // Part One
01:20:20

In an entirely unprecedented move, I had to record an Emergency Podcast System to put at the top of an already completed episode! Join me and my husband Mike as we play and discuss not only April's #Hamildrop, #FirstBurn, but Lin-Manuel Miranda's very first draft of Burn! We talked about the draft during #Lintoberfest and thanks to LMM's endless generosity and awesomeness, The Hamilcast is the only place you can hear this unreleased draft. Needless to say, we lost our minds and you will too. Enjoy!

Hamilton Broadway's Associate Company Manager Holli Campbell stopped by to drop alllllll the knowledge about how Hamilton runs smoothly, from Broadway to the growing number of companies. From what a company manager does to breaking down all the types of tickets and how to get them (yes!), Holli proves that you don't have to be on stage to be heavily involved in theatre.

01:28:26

Bill Sherman is a Tony, Grammy, and Emmy award-winning composer, producer, arranger, orchestrator, and one hell of a podcast guest let me tell you. Bill braved an awful winter rain storm to hang out and talk to me about Hamilton, The Hamilton MixtapeIn the Heights, Freestyle Love Supreme, Sesame Street, and how this podcast might be the best kind of therapy ever. From the two month process of producing the Hamilton album, to why being the Music Director of Sesame Street is the best and weirdest job in the world, to the incomparable talent and work ethic of the members of Freestyle Love Supreme, Bill and I cover a ton of ground. Episode #101: Inside, he was longing for something to be a part of // Part One
48:00

Remember when Eddy Lee called our recording a therapy session during last episode's Hamilton House Party? Yeah, this episode proves that almost immediately. In the first part of our hang, Eddy - a swing in Hamilton on Broadway - opens up about how he almost became a doctor and how at first his mother didn't approve of dancing as a career choice. Don't worry, all is well now, but his story is definitely one that may sound familiar to other aspiring artists out there.

Episode #100: Grind to the rhythm as we wine and dine
01:11:42

In honor of my 100th episode (whaaaat?!), I threw a #HamiltonHouseParty with some of my friends from the cast and crew of Hamilton on Broadway: Lexi Lawson, Jevon McFerrin, Eddy Lee, Lauren Boyd, Anna-Lee Craig, and Emily Roney. My right hand man, Michael Paul Smith, joins me as we host this fun, scrappy, and rowdy recording. From the ghosts that haunt the Richard Rodgers Theatre, to reflecting on this past year, we have a great time and Hamilton is so layered that even my guests are learning new things from each other. This is also easily the episode with the most cursing in it; it's not super vulgar but be aware of that if you listen with your little ones. Enjoy and thank you so much for taking this journey with me for my first 100 episodes - I'm just getting started! Stick around to the end to hear from some past alums of The Hamilcast who wanted to send some love for this milestone.

01:23:40

Listener favorites Ashley Graffeo, Kelly Warne, and Carrie-Rachel Dean join me for my 99th episode and a walk down memory lane, talking Hamilton, the podcast, and Broadway in general. It's the Schuyler Sisters meets the Sons of Liberty and I am lovin' it!

Episode #98: I wanna talk about what I have learned, the hard-won wisdom I have earned // Part Two
40:57

Relax, have a drink with me... and Chris Jackson! The rain didn't let up and neither did my guest of honor. In his second episode, CJack wastes no time getting super real. This moving conversation focuses a lot on his son, CJ, who is on the autism spectrum and prepare to learn and feel a lot of things, you guys. We also talk about his amazing family and what it's like being on the CBS show "Bull."

Episode #97: I wanna talk about what I have learned, the hard-won wisdom I have earned // Part One
57:40

Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Jackson coulda been anywhere in the world tonight, but he's here with me in New York City. Are you ready for Part One of my chat with him?? In this episode, CJack gets real about some of his past bad behavior during the early days of In The Heights, his experience being in the original Broadway company of Hamilton, the moment he thought he chose the wrong career path, and the mutual love, respect, and admiration flowing between the members of the Lin's Cabinet. We go in on those #TequilaThoughts, with a torrential downpour as our soundtrack.

47:36

Carvens Lissaint (Washington, Burr, Lafayette/Jefferson in Hamilton on Broadway) is back! This week, Carvens goes in on the baclkash he received after having a poem go viral, the logistical differences between Washington and Burr, the beginnings of his Black Velvet persona, and the importance of being authentic.

Episode #95: Maaaaan, the man is non-stop! // Part One
56:14

Carvens Lissaint is an excellent human and an award-winning poet. He is also covering Washington, Burr, and Lafayette/Jefferson in Hamilton on Broadway. The Carvens Origin Story is INSANE. The Carvens Hamilton Origin Story is EVEN MORE INSANE. Carvens talks about how In The Heights changed his life (Lin came out during intermission during In The Heights to chat with him - which would NEVER happen now), his experience growing up in Harlem with Haitian parents, and how he literally had a Hamilton in his bank account before he booked Hamilton on Broadway.

Episode #94: We move under cover and we move as one // Part Two
50:30

Anna-Lee Craig is back again this week and if you don't think she's the coolest, just you wait until you listen to this episode: ALC talks about being a badass lady in a field that has traditionally been dominated by men. We also talk about the hardest Hamilton tracks to mix, and how the cast and crew are Hamilton super fans - just like us!

Episode #93: We move under cover and we move as one // Part One
57:04

Get ready to become OBSESSED with Anna-Lee Craig, one of Hamilton Broadway's team of groundbreaking sound experts. Anna-Lee's official title is A2/Assistant Sound, but I've also added Badass Lady because she is awesome. Having been with Hamilton since The Public, Anna-Lee knows how to make each and every performance sound its best. I mean, she came up with a special microphone design the crew calls the ALC Special. Does it get any cooler than that? Oh - one more thing - Anna-Lee invited me to watch the show from her sound console WHICH I WILL NEVER GET OVER, EVER! But having watch her mix a performance, I can tell you that what she does is nothing less than sorcery. Lezgo!

Episode #90: #Lintoberfest with Lin-Manuel Miranda // Part Three
46:03

Lin-Manuel Miranda is back for another round and #Lintoberfest Part Three is our most emotional episode yet; Lin goes IN on "It's Quiet Uptown" as well as his thoughts on legacies and what he says is truly beautiful. But don't worry, there's balance! We also talk King George III, Moana, if and when the audience is allowed to sing along during parts of Hamilton, and Lin gives advice to writers and creative people. Stay tuned for next week for Part Four aka The Lin B-Sides, where you'll hear audio from the cutting room floor along with commentary from me and Mike. Episode #88: #Lintoberfest with Lin-Manuel Miranda // Part One
54:25

Lin-Manuel Miranda came over to my apartment and we had so much fun that I have FIVE episodes for you! Welcome to #Lintoberfest, with my husband Michael Paul Smith joining me for these episodes. In Part One, I try to get over the fact that Lin is recording in my living room - spoiler! I don't! - But regardless, we tell the story of how Lin ended up on the podcast, details of the early days of Hamilton, why Lin is a Hamilton/Burr hybrid, and quote The West Wing a LOT. We also eat popcorn and drink the Spark Into a Flame cocktail, made especially for Lin and inspired by his Inwood, NYC roots. Stay tuned for four more episodes: two more with Lin and then the Lin B-Sides which will be outtakes, non-sequiturs, and commentary by me and Mike (you know Mike). And no, I'm still not over the fact that this happened! No chill whatsoever!

Episode #87: Silence! A message from THE QUEEN!
55:32

All hail Queen Lesli Margherita (Matilda, Dames at Sea)! Lesli is Broadway royalty and also human royalty because she rules her own kingdom, you guys. Get inspired as Lesli talks all about what it means to rule your kingdom and how can make it happen. And, duh, we talk all about Hamilton! Lesli gets super emotional reminiscing about seeing Hamilton for the first time and conversations with her friends and to Hamilton OGs Leslie Odom, Jr., Betsey Struxness, and Thayne Jasperson when they first started their crazy journey into what can only be described as Broadway's version of Beatlemania. Oh and we laugh a lot and drink wine out of GOBLETS!

Episode #86: Seize the moment and stay in it
42:22

Lauren Boyd is truly delightful, especially on a rainy day in New York City. Hamilton Broadway's Woman 1 and Peggy/Maria stopped by to chat Hamilton's LA opening, details about her roles (like how Woman 1 is Martha Washington and her insights into Maria Reynolds), why stagedooring is so important to her, and how she handles those occasional bad days we all deal with.

Episode #85: Hear ye, hear ye! I present #SeaburysFreeThoughts!
01:01:48

Hear ye, hear ye! His name is Thayne Jasperson and he originated the role of Samuel Seabury in Hamilton! Yep, you read that right; Thayne. Jasperson. is on. the podcast. And the word of the day is FERVOR. Get ready for a full hour of #SeaburysFreeThoughts. Thayne really is as kind, energetic, and hilarious as he seems. In this super rapid fire and fun episode, we are all over the place and it is the best ever. Thayne talks about the details he added to Samuel Seabury before Hamilton moved to Broadway (plus changes that have since been cut from the show), his love of King George III, how he messes with his fellow cast members on stage, why his faith is so important to him, and explains his cookie addiction. We also talk a lot about ghosts, nudity (are you okay? take a few deep breaths!), and Thayne breaks out more than a few accents.

Episode #84: Everybody’s dancin’ and the band’s top volume // Part Two
48:22

Ian Weinberger is back for another episode and you should probably be sitting down while you listen to this one... we turn our attention to the keyboard and YOU. ARE. NOT. READY. Ian plays us mind-blowing musical motifs from Hamilton, and we come to that conclusion that Alex Lacamoire really just can't help himself when it comes to being a genius. In other words, #LacsGonnaLac. We also do impressions of characters from The West Wing because of course we do.

Episode #83: Everybody’s dancin’ and the band’s top volume // Part One
50:50

Ian Weinberger, the Associate Musical Director of Hamilton on Broadway, is going to BLOW US ALL AWAY. Ian conducts the show, plays keyboard in the pit, and happens to be one of the nicest people on the planet. In this first episode, Ian tells us how he got involved in Hamilton (Dear Evan Hansen is involved), confirms that Alex Lacamoire and Kurt Crowley are as nice as they are brilliant, and explains the musician's version of #BurrsCorner.

Oh, did I mention there's a keyboard involved? Thank you Gregory Treco for telling me to get a keyboard for this recording and thank you Tyler Mount for making that happen.

Episode #82: Ask anybody why we livin’ fast and we laugh, reach for a flask, we have to make this moment last...
40:37

Raise a glass, friends! Welcome to another Emergency Podcast System. This week, Mike (you know Mike) and our friend and history enthusiast Ted O'Gorman help me recap August 12th's #HamiltonHappyHour, which was Ted's introduction to Hamilton and the Hamilton community. In case you missed it, Patrick Hinds of the Theater People Podcast, Broadway Backstory, and True Crime Obsessed hopped behind the bar with me and we hosted the #HamFam and sang the entire Hamilton cast album in New York City, the greatest city in the world. We had the best time and raised a ton of money for charity. It was also a much needed night of love, support, and community after the country endured what Mike described as a "James Reynolds kinda week."

After the Happy Hour, Ted went home and re-listened to the entire album so we also talk about his first impressions of Hamilton (spoiler: he loved it) and get super nerdy about history pop culture with things like 1776 and The West Wing.

PS: #HamiltonHappyHour is now a thing and Patrick and I are going to do it again. Stay tuned for details!

Episode #81: ...I promise myself to realize the sweet enjoyment of partaking...
32:08

Bryan Terrell Clark (George Washington in Hamilton on Broadway) was kind enough to invite me to his dressing room to hang out on a very busy two show day! Spoiler alert: things get real emotional real quick as BTC tells me about how his first time singing "One Last Time" was when President Barack Obama was giving his Farewell Speech in Chicago. Bryan gives beautiful insight to GDubbs, explains why he could never be a swing/cover/understudy (but why he has the utmost respect for them!), and how he keeps himself G.Wash-ready.

Episode #80: No one has more resilience or matches my practical tactical brilliance
01:06:46

James Monroe Iglehart is a kind, funny, generous, amazing bolt of energy and I am so proud to say that he is my guest this week. Fan favorite Ashley Graffeo is my co-host, making this episode extra special. James told us what it's like to play Lafayette/Jefferson in Hamilton on Broadway, how the role compares to his Tony winning portrayal of Genie in Aladdin, meeting the Freestyle Love Supreme crew, the wonderful night that was The American Songbook performance at Lincoln Center (he played Hercules Mulligan!), and he even gives us a never-before-heard Burr's Corner. Plus, we talk about The Muppets, The Blues Brothers, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and more!

Hope tells us how booking Hamilton was full of surprises, what it's like traveling between all three companies (the word "vagabond" was used), and why she loves the Sons of Liberty. Plus, Hope gives us excellent tips on what we can do to help the environment and how to live a more sustainable lifestyle.

Episode #78: I need someone like you to lighten the load
36:48

Kimberly "Kimmie" Mark was gracious enough to invite me to the Richard Rodgers Theatre to tell me all about what it's like to be what is known as a Star Dresser on Broadway for 19 years, dressing stars like Alan Cumming, Raul Esparza, and Leslie Odom Jr. (who brought her to Hamilton). Currently, Kimmie dresses George Washington and Aaron Burr and is easily one of the nicest, coolest people in the world. Take a listen and learn all about how Kimmie became a dresser, tons of behind-the-scenes details about Hamilton, why being assigned to Leslie Odom Jr. was a "dream come true," and how she hasn't actually SEEN Hamilton.

Episode #74: You've kept me from the room where it happens for the last time // Part One
35:38

Gregory Treco is in the room where the podcast happens, friends! As the cover for Burr/Washington (and now Lafayette/Jefferson!) in Hamilton on Broadway, Gregory has a unique perspective on the roles and tells us why they are equally challenging and rewarding. We also get some fun details like how G.Wash's sword has a mind of its own, how one scene in The Room Where It Happens occurs three times (I KNOW), and the sage advice he got from his very dear friend Leslie Odom Jr. Oh, and Gregory and Gillian share a mutual love of Your Obedient Servant, so that's fun!

Hamilton's Gregory Haney is on the podcast this week and we are thrilled to have him! We also talk to Gregory about his experience as La Cienega, Broadway's first transgender high school student in Bring It On, and he dishes about being in Grease Live! Not to mention the fact that he WON GLOBAL GUTS ON NICKELODEON WHEN HE WAS 13 YEARS OLD NBD.

Episode #69: Your lieutenant when there’s reckoning to be reckoned // Part Two
30:52

Anthony Lee Medina is back for another round tonight and we covered so much ground, it's crazy. Anthony tells us what it's like to die 16 times a week as Laurens/Philip on Broadway, how he did the role while battling E. coli (for real!), and our plans for a #HamPrayLove tour to see every single cast member perform every single track in every production of Hamilton. That shouldn't be too hard, right? Anthony also gushes over fellow cast members and describes how his world has been turned upside down since joining Hamilton.

Episode #68: Your lieutenant when there’s reckoning to be reckoned // Part One
37:42

I said shout it to the roofTOPS! Anthony Lee Medina (John Laurens/Philip Hamilton in Hamilton on Broadway) is on the show this - and next - week! In the first part of our chat we do a quick recap of Gillian seeing Hamilton the night the incomparable Donald Webber debuted as Lafayette/Jefferson, and Anthony tells us what that was like behind the scenes. Anthony also talks backstage pranks (again! so many pranks with this crew!), being a self proclaimed Hamilton "reference box," and insight into playing John Laurens and Philip Hamilton. And we may or may not go on a Madonna tangent... Okay, yeah, we totally do.

Episode #67: You sent the dogs after my scent, that's fine
44:27

We're bringing back two listener favorites this week: A discussion of Ron Chernow's Alexander Hamilton and Amber Kempter of Broadway Goes Pop!. Amber tells us about her trip to New York City and joins us as we dive into Cherpter 22: "Stabbed in the Dark." The hurricane is closing in on Alexander Hamilton and in addition to seeing more hatred from Thomas Jefferson aka Regina George, we also get a small glimpse into Ham's rivalry with Aaron Burr (sir). But mostly, we learn about how the haters tried to bring Hamilton down but he always seemed to come out on the up and up... for now.

Episode #64: I'm passionately smashin' every expectation // Part Two
42:28

The kiki continues, y'all! Javier Muñoz is still hanging out and we're joined by listener favorite Ashley Graffeo! This week we're getting into Javi's activism, how he deals with haters and trolls on Twitter, and we rewiiiind to the beauty of Javi's Cafecito! From the days of the Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton! And yes, we still reference *NSYNC and Destiny's Child and take even more questions from our Patreon Supporters! It's fun.

PS: For reference, here is the question Ashley's student asked Javi: “I just want to say that I really enjoyed your performance of Hamilton, which I was lucky enough to see, and my question is: so many roles on Broadway are dedicated to people who don’t look like us, so… did you always want to be on Broadway and did you ever imagine yourself playing a role like this?"

Get ready to have your mind blown as Eliza tells us how tracks are different depending on the production, how grateful she is to be able to see so many different actors portray such wonderful roles, and what it was like working with Tom Hanks and Justin Bieber in Carly Rae Jepsen's "I Really Like You" video on the coldest day of all time.

As we sip the custom-tailored The Dark Knight Rises Up cocktail, Nik tells us about joining the Broadway cast of Hamilton, how fun it is to work with so many of his closest friends, and declares a prank war on Michael Luwoye.

That's right, HERCULES MULLIGAN! We had so much fun talking to J. The thing about the Reynolds affair is that it was bananas and there were so many people involved. This week, we tackle Ron Chernow's Chapter 21: "Exposure" which is "We Know" only with three entirely different dudes. The endless soap opera of Hamilton's bad decisions is even more convoluted than you think but Chernow reminds us that this is just the beginning. BA DA DA DA DUM.

We chatted everything including his love of Hamilton, what it’s like being in the eye of the hurricane of a phenomenon (um RENT!), the Chicago Cubs, and what he thinks is missing on Broadway. Plus! We cast Hamilton characters and Rent characters. Well, as much as we could. Bonus! We channel Alexi Darling for our sign off.

48:19

Episode #15: We’ll never be free until we end slavery
43:05

It’s a bummer, but we have to talk about the crazy level of hypocrisy surrounding our Founding Fathers fighting for freedom yet still owning slaves. It sucks. We break down who was the biggest hypocrite and… we hate to say it, but there’s a good possibility Alexander and Eliza Hamilton owned some slaves of their own. But we balance things out with some awesome listener emails! Silver lining? Yes, because we have the best listeners of all time.

Episode #14: He plays and he raises the stakes
42:07

We’re back talking Chernow and this week we really #FeelTheBurr (especially since we’re sipping on some Aaron Burr Cidery goodness). It’s pretty much a therapy session for Aaron Burr. In spite of Gillian and Ashley’s best efforts to have a Harry Potter-centric episode, Bianca and Meg keep things on track. Fun fact: Ham4Ham didn’t start with the Broadway show we know and love. Intriguing right?

Episode #13: Emergency Hamilcast! We saw Hamilton this week!
57:28

Look around, look around, at how lucky we are to be alive right now! Thanks to total strangers moved to kindness by Gillian's story of not having seen Hamilton, we both to got to be in the room where it happens! We saw Hamilton the very same night Lin-Manuel Miranda won the Pulitzer Prize. A very generous listener bought us tickets, and friends of friends got us backstage. We are so overwhelmed with excitement and gratitude. We couldn't wait to tell you all about it so we bumped our previously scheduled episode to next week and recorded an emergency podcast so we could tell our stooooorrrryyyy.

Oh ya know, just the guy who programs all of the beats in a little show called HAMILTON! Yup, we are still floating after this awesome conversation with the Hamilton Beatmaster. And you guys! It's perfect because we're up to Chernow's "The Lovesick Colonel" chapter where Ham meets Eliza and Scott told us all about the badass rewiiiiiind in "Satisfied." "My Shot" instrumental provided by Bao Vu.

Episode #8: I’m sorry, is this not your speed?!
50:23

Gillian and Bianca discuss Chernow's "Frenzy of Valor" chapter with the one and only Hollis Andrews aka @HamiltonsSquad. From Lin-Manuel Miranda shouting Hollis out from the Richard Rodgers stage, to the love between Alexander Hamilton and John Laurens, and the real reason Ham didn't duel Charles Lee... wow, there's a lot happening this week. "My Shot" instrumental provided by Bao Vu.

Episode #6: The truth is in ya face when ya hear the British cannons go…BOOM!
33:39

Gillian and Bianca talk Broadway bootlegs and Chapter 4 in Chernow: "The Pen and the Sword." Also, Gillian's Hamilton FOMO made her temporarily lose her mind so she tells a cautionary Craigslist tale. Yikes. "My Shot" instrumental provided by Bao Vu.

Episode #5: Don’t modulate the key then not debate with me!
37:23

In this week's episode, Gillian and Bianca are joined by Lizzy but you know her as @TheHamWing. We talk about her wonderful Hamilton/West Wing mashups as well as the next chapter in Chernow's book, "The Collegian." It turns out "The Farmer Refuted" pamphlet was no joke, but apparently that whole Ham punching the bursar thing was. Womp womp. "My Shot" instrumental provided by Bao Vu.
