D&D: The Styes, Part 1: City on the Water
01:31:59
Issue 121 of the very much missed "Dungeon Magazine" contained a fantastic adventure for D&D 3rd edition called "The Styes", that took place in a dark and dreary port town plagued by mysterious murders. On Tuesday the 21st of May the new D&D 5th edition module "Ghosts of Saltmarsh" will be released and The Styes is one of the many classic adventures that have been included. To celebrate this new launch we made our own conversion of the old adventure and ran it as a one-shot. Enjoy part one here and do check out Ghosts of Saltmarsh! KULT: And the Rocket's Red Glare, with Rollspelsklubben
02:36:19
"The Trump campaign is getting ready to make its final push towards the White House. For months, he has been playing to the basest urges of the American populace: the need for more. More safety, more money, more guns, more of everything. His followers have been whipped into a frenzy, waiting to strike at the polls. The whole country is wound as tight as a fiddle-string, and that’s exactly the way Trump wants it. Maybe you needed the university credits. Maybe your parents supported his campaign and had an “in”. For whatever reason, you were one of the few chosen to intern in the executive half of the campaign, with Trump himself. It was stressful, and that’s what you expected. His smiles are a little too wide, his words are a little too rushed, and his running mate is a little too quiet. That’s all normal, right? It’s just stress. Stress will make you see things that aren’t there – especially on election night." We had the amazing privilege of recording the talented Jacqueline Bryk's new KULT: Divinity Lost scenario "And the Rocket's Red Glare", together with Isak Jansson from Sweden's largest actual play podcast "Rollspelsklubben" as a guest player. Joining us was also our dear friend Jenny Bremberg. The scenario is for sale in Helmgast's webshop here: https://webshop.helmgast.se/kult/and-the-rockets-red-glare-digital-pdf.html NOTE: This scenario is a work of fiction. All incidents and dialogue, and all characters with the exception of some well-known historical figures, are products of the scenarios creator and are not to be construed as real. Where real life historical figures appear, the situations, incidents, and dialogues concerning those persons are almost entirely fictional and are not intended to depict actual events or to change the entirely fictional nature of this story. This is fake news, but we hope you will enjoy it. The Great Vilhaim Heist 01: The Dragon
01:13:32
Over the coming few weeks we will be playing the adventure "The Great Vilhaim Heist" for Scarred Lands, a setting for Dungeons & Dragons by Onyx Path Publishing. We are again joined by The Gentleman Gamer Matthew Dawkins who will be our Dungeon Master for this adventure. "Scarn. This world is not what it once was. Broken and battered, it was mauled in a great conflict that raged across its surface for years. The titans — primal beings, forces of nature that created and shaped Scarn — warred with their children, the gods, who had learned to draw power from the faith of lowly mortals wandering the face of Scarn. They clashed across the world, amassing armies using the creatures they created or who worshipped them. On one side were the “titanspawn,” twisted monsters and foul creatures loyal to the titans; on the other, the “divine races,” the mortals, banded together to aid the gods. Over time, the gods were successful and the titans subdued, but never destroyed. The gods are the sole rulers of Scarn now, fueled by the devout worship of their mortal followers. Yet though the war is over, the damage remains, and it is for this reason that Scarn is now known as the Scarred Lands. That great conflict, known as both the Divine War and the Titanswar, has been over for a century and a half, but the healing process has only just begun. Much of Scarn’s topography has been twisted and warped in unnatural ways. And the titans, though dormant, are not dead. Welcome... to Scarred Lands" Game: Scarred Lands, Onyx Path Publishing for Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition Music by: Ager Sonus & Lesa Listvy, Cryo Chamber Web: https://www.redmoonroleplaying.com iTunes: http://apple.co/2wTNqHx Android: http://bit.ly/2vSvwZi Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/RedMoonRoleplaying RSS: http://www.redmoonroleplaying.com/podcast?format=rss Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/RedMoonRoleplaying

Stormbringer, with The Grognard Files
01:53:28
We are very happy and pleased to bring you this special episode of Red Moon Roleplaying where we got to play Chaosium's Stormbringer RPG from 1981. The game is written by industry legends Ken St. Andre and Steve Perrin, and is based on Michael Moorcock's works about Elric of Melniboné, the albino sorcerer who wields the enchanted black blade named Stormbringer. A blade that feeds off of blood and souls. Gamemaster for this session was none other than Dirk the Dice from the excellent podcast The Grognard Files, a show that talk bobbins about table-top RPGs from back in the day and today. We are big fans and would definitely recommend you check the show out if you are interested in those magical games that built the hobby in the 80's. You can find the show here: https://thegrognardfiles.com For now we wish you a pleasant journey to the Young Kingdoms! DEGENESIS: Voltaic
01:56:00
We got the great opportunity to play the gorgeous primal punk RPG DEGENESIS by SIXMOREVODKA with Kyle Willey, who is a freelancer on the game, as our Gamemaster. "500 years have passed since a swarm of asteroids ushered in the end humanity. Earth is engulfed by a new ice age. But Mankind hasn‘t given up just yet. From the ashes of a destroyed civilization, a new one has risen. Cults, clans and tribes are fighting for dominance in a world that is being reborn. Apocalyptic sects raise fortresses in the landscape. Clans form new cities. Border towns rise from the settling asteroid dust. A whole people are on the move to harvest the artifacts of the lost generations. To rebuild earth in a new and glorious fashion. But in the shadows of the craters something is moving. A strange virus that was traveling underneath the icy shell of the asteroids has started infecting humanity‘s DNA. The virus, called the Primer, is starting to mutate people who get in touch with it, transforming them, turning them into a new apex predator, a new race of human beings. It‘s the birth of Homo Degenesis." Taroticum 04: Lee-Metford
00:41:31
It's been a few months ago since we checked in with our Patreon bonus campaign "Taroticum" for KULT: Divinity Lost. Having left you on a dreadful cliffhanger we thought it would be nice to give you closure to the prologue. We released the ninth episode of the campaign on the five dollar per month level on Patreon today so you can enjoy a nice KULT binge if you back us there. Your support allows us to spend more time on the show and really means a great deal to us! https://www.patreon.com/RedMoonRoleplaying TAROTICUM 04: LEE-METFORD The Lee-Metford rifle was a bolt-action rifle that replaced the aging breech-loaded Martini-Henry rifle as the British Army's service rifle in 1888. It was much faster than the Martini-Henry and the bolt's rotation was only 60 degrees compared to the 90 degrees of similar German and French rifles. It had one major drawback however and that was its reliance on the extremely smoky black powder as a propellant. The rifle was supposed to utilize cordite which is smokeless, but production delays made the makers of the rifle have to rely on black powder. In 1896 the Lee-Metford was phased out in favour of the Lee-Enfield rifle, which used smokeless powder and is still utilized to this day with units in especially the developing countries of the commonwealth. During World War 2 the Lee-Metford found itself converted in to an automatic rifle in New Zealand and Australia due to the lack of Bren and Lewis guns. The Lee-Metford remains in use by one unit today, the Atholl Highlanders in Scotland. TERROR AT MAKE-OUT POINT 01: Denton, Alabama
02:06:15
Red Moon Roleplaying are proud to announce our campaign "TERROR AT MAKE-OUT POINT" for the Sci-Fi horror game "They Came From Beneath The Sea" from our friends at Onyx Path Publishing, with the game's creator The Gentleman Gamer, Matthew Dawkins as our Gamemaster / Director. This will be a short campaign before we begin our next big thing and will give you a chance to follow the misanthropic Dr. White, played by Craig, the high-flying B.C. Rosberg, played by Hjalmar, and the pinko-hunting Agent Faulkner, played by Mattiaz, as they unravel the mystery that is "TERROR AT MAKE-OUT POINT". The setting is a take on the 1950's Alabama that you can see in Sci-Fi monster movies from that era. While the game embraces humor and schlock, Matthew will be keeping the Red Moon formula intact by taking us down far darker paths and putting us against nightmarish Lovecraftian horrors beyond human imagination. This first session includes character creation and if you want to skip to the action you can find it at 01:47:18. "They Came From Beneath The Sea" is on Kickstarter until the 24th of January so you still have a chance to back the game here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/200664283/they-came-from-beneath-the-sea-a-tabletop-roleplay Campaign: “TERROR AT MAKE-OUT POINT”, They Came From Beneath The Sea, Onyx Path Publishing Music by: Cryo Chamber Collaborations "Cthulhu", "Yog-Sothoth", "Shub-Niggurath", "Azathoth" and "Nyarlathotep" Web: https://www.redmoonroleplaying.com iTunes: http://apple.co/2wTNqHx Android: http://bit.ly/2vSvwZi Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/RedMoonRoleplaying RSS: http://www.redmoonroleplaying.com/podcast?format=rss Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/RedMoonRoleplaying

Thank you again for following our play-through of "Curse of Strahd"! Craig, Hjalmar and Mattiaz sat down right after the end of the campaign to look back on their memories from the journey. The total conversation clocked in at 2.5 hours and we hope that you will enjoy reminiscing about the places we visited and the many characters we met. We have a few more things to prepare over the coming week but will be announcing our next campaign as soon as we can. Stay tuned! Curse of Strahd 41: Quietus
02:00:38
THIS IS THE FINAL EPISODE OF CURSE OF STRAHD In November of 1462 the Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus had finally heard the requests of Vlad III Dracula to join him in his war against the Ottomans. He arrived in Transylvania to negotiate with Vlad, who had now lost his throne to his brother Radu, whom the Ottomans favored. After long negotiations Corvinus decided that Vlad was a liability he could not afford and had Vlad imprisoned in his palace in Visegrád. Fourteen years passed until he was mentioned in writing again. In 1476 Radu’s successor as prince of Wallachia, Basarab, was seen by the Hungarians as too friendly to the Ottomans. Corvinus decided to recognize Vlad as the lawful prince of Wallachia and together with Moldavian support Vlad’s Hungarian army invaded his homeland. In the end of 1476 Vlad was again crowned Prince of Wallachia. However, his reign would be short as Basarab returned with a large Ottoman army supporting him in early 1477. Vlad III Dracula met his end when his small army was vanquished by Basarab’s forces. Vlad’s corpse was supposedly cut in to pieces and his head was sent to Sultan Mehmed II. According to the stories Vlad III Dracula was buried in the monastery in Snagov. But when his supposed tomb was excavated in 1933, only horse bones were found within. Curse of Strahd 40: The Impaler
01:02:05
In 1462 the prince of Wallachia, Vlad III Dracula, led an army against his Ottoman overlords. He declared that he was fighting for Christianity, the crown of Hungary and its wearer king Matthias Corvinus, and had “killed 23,884 Turks and Bulgarians” during his campaign. He asked the king for his support in defeating the Ottomans. Corvinus did not come to his aid however and an Ottoman army, 150,000 strong, the largest since the conquest of Constantinople according to the historian Chalkokondyles, crossed the Danube on June 4th 1462. Vlad attempted to assassinate the Sultan in his camp but failed to reach the Sultan's tent, instead attacking the Vizier Mahmut Pasha. Retreating from the massive army Vlad employed scorched earth tactics. When the Ottomans entered the city of Târgoviște they were horrified to discover a "forest of the impaled". Chalkokondyles writes thus: "The sultan was seized with amazement and said that it was not possible to deprive of his country a man who had done such great deeds, who had such a diabolical understanding of how to govern his realm and its people. And he said that a man who had done such things was worth much. The rest of the Turks were dumbfounded when they saw the multitude of men on the stakes. There were infants too affixed to their mothers on the stakes, and birds had made their nests in their entrails." The Island of the Dead 08: Babi Ngepet
01:34:08
This is the final episode of "The Island of the Dead". A big thank you to Robin Liljenberg, Jenny Bremberg and Helmgast for creating this with us! "According to myths on the island of Java there is black magic that a person can use to become rich instantly. The spell requires a sacrifice however, in this case ones humanity; allowing oneself to be possessed by a boar demon for a period of time. The boar demon will then roam around villages, rubbing its body against the huts and houses, making valuable belongings like gold and jewelry disappear. When the caster of the spell reverts to its human form it will find its robes filled with the stolen possessions. Because of this superstition it is common for Javanese villagers to kill any boars they find roaming around their settlement." A taste of "Ask for the Moon"
01:08:08
With the year coming to a close we thought this would be a nice time to give you an opportunity to get to know us better. In our shows we generally stay in-character, which means that you get very few opportunities to learn about who we are as people. In our Patreon feed we have a Q&A show called "Ask for the Moon", in which we answer questions asked by our patrons. We have a lot of fun doing this and it hopefully also offers a view in to who we are and how we think. Here is an episode from November which we thought could be a nice teaser for what awaits over on Patreon. Ask for the Moon is available at the 1 dollar per month level and we release one episode every month. Head over to Patreon, help the show and help us make more of this lovely content. https://www.patreon.com/RedMoonRoleplaying

Curse of Strahd 39: Dien Bien Phu
00:58:55
In March of 1954 France was at war with the Viet Minh independence movement in French Indochina. The first Indochina war had been going since 1946 and the French were planning to cut off Viet Minh supply lines going into Laos and tactically draw the Viet Minh in to a major confrontation to end the conflict once and for all. France opted to fight at a fortress they built at Dien Bien Phu, deep in the hills of northwestern Vietnam. The fortress would be resupplied by air as the French were convinced the Viet Minh possessed no anti-air capabilities. The Viet Minh swiftly moved to surround the French and positioned heavy artillery and anti-aircraft guns all around the fortress, having pushed these up the slopes of the mountains overlooking the French positions and dug tunnels through the mountain. On March 13th the Viet Minh opened fire upon the French positions and with the artillery spread out around the mountains the French could not mount any counter-battery fire. The French artillery commander committed suicide in desperation and while the French troops repulsed wave after wave of attacks by the Viet Minh they eventually ran out of supplies, the air drops being fewer and fewer as the Viet Minh anti-aircraft guns took out supply planes during every run. After a two month siege the French forces surrendered, the government resigned and France withdrew from Indochina, separating the country in two at the 17th parallel. One war ends... another one begins. The Island of the Dead 06: Tonton Macoute
00:43:31
Having survived a coup d’etat attempt in 1958, the dictator of Haiti, Francois Duvalier, known as "Papa Doc", created a paramilitary force in 1959 to keep him safe from future coup attempts. They were called the "Cagoulards", the hooded men, and were authorized to do whatever necessary to suppress political opposition. They are behind an unknown number of murders, often with a machete, at other times stoning and burning people alive. They would frequently leave the corpse of their victims on display, anyone attempting to remove the body would find themselves “disappeared” soon as well. The force got the nickname “Tonton Macoute” after a mythological Haitian bogeyman. The Tonton Macoute was said to kidnap and punish unruly children during the night by snaring them in a gunny sack (Macoute in French) and carrying them off, eating them for breakfast. They reveled in this reputation and began wearing clothes inspired by Haitian Vodou to instill fear by alluding to having supernatural power. Perhaps the most stunning fact about the Tonton Macoute is a man called Luckner Cambronne, who led the force during the 60’s and 70’s. He was known as the “Vampire of the Carribean” as he would extort blood plasma from locals and sell it to American labs. He would also sell dead bodies to the US, buying them from local hospitals for 3 dollars apiece. When the hospitals ran out he would raid local funeral parlors. Curse of Strahd 38: Filicide
01:04:41
Filicide is the act of killing your own son or daughter. Five major reasons for the act have been identified and categorized by psychiatrists. One is ”altruistic”, believing that it would be in the child’s best interest, for example if the child is terminally ill or the parent intends to kill themselves and don’t want the children left alone in what they consider a cruel world. Another reason is “acute psychosis”, for example believing that your child is possessed by an evil spirit and a danger. Then there are “unwanted children”, regarded as a hindrance by the parent. There are also "accidental killings", usually a result of physical abuse without the intent of murder. Finally there is "spousal revenge", such as in the Greek story of Medea who exacted revenge on her husband Jason by killing their children. In the US alone about 500 children are killed each year by their parents with the mother being close to as likely to commit the horrendous act as the father. The Island of the Dead 05: Fawcett
00:49:56
In 1925 Lieutenant Colonel Percy Fawcett set out on an expedition in to the jungles of Brazil, looking for an ancient lost city that he had named “Z”. His son Jack and one of Jack’s friends joined Fawcett for the expedition as well as two Brazilian laborers, two horses, eight mules and two dogs. They had opted to keep the expedition small so not to disturb the natives who were generally hostile to outsiders. On May 29th they entered the unexplored territories… never to return. The final fate of the expedition is unclear but it is believed that they were likely killed by one of the native tribes. Some of their belongings also surfaced, having been given as gifts to tribal leaders. Curse of Strahd 37: Snap! Crackle! Pop!
00:57:26
On January 3, 1943 the 360th Bomb Squadron of the US Air Force was conducting a daylight bombing raid over St. Nazaire in France, attempting to take out German submarine yards. Alan Magee was a ball turret gunner in one the B-17 bombers joining the dangerous raid. The bomber took fire from German fighters which shot off parts of the right wing, sending the plane in to a deadly spin. Magee had no choice but to jump out of the plane… without a parachute. Convinced this was the end he welcomed the loss of consciousness that the rapid descent gave him. He could not believe his eyes when he later woke up being patched up by German doctors. He had smashed through the glass ceiling of the St. Nazaire train station which had ended up breaking his fall. He had broken his right leg, almost severed his right arm and had 28 shrapnel wounds from shards of glass – but he was alive... having survived a fall of more than 6000 meters. The Island of the Dead 04: Koteka
00:50:03
The Koteka is a sheath worn by males in some tribes in New Guinea to cover their genitals. Normally made from a dried out gourd they are held in place by loops of fiber attached to the body. During work normally a shorter sheath is utilized with longer more elaborate sheaths used during festivities. While it’s easy to assume the Koteka has some form of sexual meaning the locals are adamant that it is purely worn as a way of covering themselves. An attempt to eradicate the practice was made in the 1970’s with authorities encouraging the natives to use modern clothing like shorts and shirts. However the locals were unfamiliar with the care of such clothes and did not wash them, leading to skin diseases. The use of these kinds of sheaths has been documented outside of New Guinea as well with some native South American tribes and tribes in tropical Africa also reportedly having used them. It is unclear where the practice originated. Adventure: The Island of the Dead, KULT: Divinity Lost Music from the official KULT soundtrack featuring tracks by: Atrium Carceri, Mechanoreceptor, Mind. Curse of Strahd 36: Li's field
00:52:28
The island of Hong Kong is in the middle of an area with very heavy cyclone activity and many of the neighboring countries are ravaged by frequent storms. This was the case in 2010 for example when the Severe Tropical Storm Lionrock impacted Taiwan and Fujian in China. When looking at the path of the cyclone however, something looks strange, it’s as if the storm takes a sudden turn to avoid Hong Kong. Similar movements happened to typhoon Cimaron in 2006 that was headed for Hong Kong, and then veered off. This has created a conspiracy theory that says that Hong Kong is protected by a force field created by the tycoon and billionaire Li Ka-Shing, specifically designed to repel severe weather like this. At a survey conducted at a student forum in 2014, about 20% of respondents believed that “Li’s Field”, as it is known, did indeed exist. The Island of the Dead 03: Faber
01:09:35
In June 1942 the 3rd fighter group of the 2nd fighter wing of the Luftwaffe was scrambled to intercept a force of six returning A-20 Havoc bombers. The bombers were escorted by the 310th, 312th and 313th squadron of the RAF, all manned by Czech pilots. The Luftwaffe was flying the brand new Focke-Wulf 190 and downed seven Spitfires, one in spectacular fashion when Oberleutnant Armin Faber, with only one cannon working, made an Immelmann turn in to the sun and shot down his pursuer head on. Faber however had become severely disoriented during the dogfight and separated from the rest of the squadron and mistook the Bristol Channel for the English Channel and ended up flying north instead of south, mistaking the south of Wales for France. Witnesses could hardly believe their eyes when seeing the German plane waggling its wings in a victory celebration and then landing on the training airfield at RAF Pembrey. This being a training airfield, not many weapons were available and duty pilot Sergeant Jeffreys had to jump up on the wing of the plane and take Faber prisoner with a flare gun. Something is happening. Stirring or moving. It has been going on for a while now. Some shift in the big picture. I think of Crowley coming back. Or Seymour. On the back on some monster from hell. I realise that if it was just me in the monsters way, I would not care much, but now Vanessa is here too. Crazy, wonderful Vanessa of the lunatics. I like to have her around. Taroticum 03: Cat o' Nine Tails
00:55:28
The cat o’ nine tails is a whip with nine “claws”, knotted thongs of cotton cord, designed to lacerate the skin in parallel wounds. It was used for corporal punishment, for example in the Royal Navy, where flogging was regularly administered for drunkenness or striking an officer. These offenses could give you a dozen lashes whereas desertion, mutiny or theft could give you up to five hundred. In the case of the “offense” of sodomy the death penalty was normally administered, but an alternative to this was awarding one thousand lashes – something that carried a similar chance of survival. “Flogging around the fleet” was the severest form of flogging where the offender was rowed between the ships in port, being flogged at each ship. This continued over months and years until the sailor died. After having endured each round of punishment the sailor’s back was rinsed with seawater which was then mistakenly thought to help reduce the risk of infection. The expression “rubbing salt into his wounds” is said to come from this practice. Taroticum is our second Patreon bonus campaign and this is the third and final of three episodes that will be released for all of our listeners so that you can get a taste of it. On the five dollar level on Patreon you can already find episode 4 as well as the full first five play sessions in raw format. "Faraday" by Anders Fager, Chapter 21
00:01:55
Vanessa has left to live with Max the lunatic. Might be just as well. I am not to be trusted around relatives. She is perhaps better off without the crazy guy in the basement who enjoys blood, babes and the Clash. Vanessa was constantly going on about how men ruled the world. I always told her that Victoria was a woman and Elsa would go “but she is just one.” I tried to explain that our empire has been ruled by women for 100 of the last 150 years. Who in this world of male heroism would have thought that? I wonder what Kether did to bring about that. The Royals are both somehow related to Rainer Xavier’s Habsburgers, but then again so is half the planet. There is an irony in how the English, seeking out other civilizations and exploring the world, should without even noticing, become a matriarchy. And not to mention that new lunatic. Thatcher. Now they have a queen and a prime mistress. Elsa would have loved Thatcher. Vanessa does not. I am doing the hippie guru thing. Without letting the sunshine in. One of my pupils is this 13-year old runaway. She is very gifted, but I do not think she understands that we are related. Perhaps better keep it that way. Magic is in the streets. Some crazy kids even claim streets are disappearing. Sounds strange, but considering what is underneath the illusion here, who knows? Vanessa and some other kids told me Oxford Street was missing and I had to see for myself. Went there at two in the morning. It was gone alright. I’d never known there was supposed to be a street there. None of my friends in death seem to have clue what is going on. They cannot be bothered. I wish I was like them. I wish I did not care. "Faraday" by Anders Fager, Chapter 19
00:01:49
I loved swinging London. I loved every silly minute of it. The parties. The abundance of drugs. The spirit of rebellion and exploration. The childish songs and the teen decadence. All these rebels in their twenties. These bratty working-class kids with their heads full of technicolor dreams. The anti-war movement. The crazy political ideas. They kicked open the gates to Metropolis by sheer numbers. I loved that. Hyde Park melted into another Hyde Park. And the sun machine was coming down. Later I’ve realized I liked it so much because I felt I was one of them. Not only me by myself. I had not felt that unity with others since… I do not know when. Perhaps with the Golden Dawn, before things went sour. Elsa would have loved all these crazy kids. And she would perhaps have hated little Vanessa. The one she thing never gave me. And Seymour. Sometimes. Last year I did a tart from Wembley on her wedding night. The fireworks beside her drunk husband resulted in a child. Seymour would have had a lot to say about that. Not to mention Donovan. “Our kind cannot breed…” I blame it on Elvis. Elvis is cool. A real pied piper for the youth. There weren’t things like him when I was young. No one pointed the way to sex and fun. One had to find the way one self. One by one. Not in groups like this. It is fascinating. And I think I have a daughter. Vanessa. Curse of Strahd 35: R.U.R
01:10:27
In Rossumovi Univerzální Roboti, a play from 1920 by Karel Capek, we are introduced to the idea of artificial people called roboti that are used as workers. The R.U.R factory makes these roboti from synthetic flesh and blood, even enabling them to think for themselves and be mistaken for human. The word "robot", especially its use in sci-fi, come from these roboti. As has become the pattern for most western stories involving robots these creatures end up rebelling against their human masters and end up wiping out the human race. Robots as a form of hubris by humans playing god, and being used as a warning against that, is in stark contrast to for example Japanese stories about robots where they are frequently seen as heroes or saviors rather than threats. "Faraday" by Anders Fager, Chapter 17
00:01:25
Sex gets boring. Passion gets boring. Even digging around in Gamaliel’s most twisted dreams gets repetitive. It wears you down. This extended lifespan comes with the extra risk of going crazy. It fucks you up like it did with Donovan. Or am I just fucking and being fucked by the wrong things? This Dracula-cliché is getting silly. I need to find something radically new. Some drug I haven’t tried yet. Some race or breed or food or dance or taste or drink or fuck in a new way with someone that does not look like the last fifty fuckwits I’ve fucked. I think I need to be loved again. Pathetic. Written by Anders Fager Music by Atrium Carceri Tarot card art by Axel Torvenius Taroticum is an adventure for KULT: Divinity Lost by Helmgast AB

"Faraday" by Anders Fager, Chapter 16
00:01:28
And they all came down. In a matter of a year or two. I cannot believe how much has happened the last few years. You can say a lot of things about world wars, but things do change fast. There had been so much change in the air. So many people believed in the men in black. Hod's men. The voice of law and order. And now they are losing, the Italian one being killed by some commoners and hung up like a piece of meat. Soon there will be only Binah’s thugs left. I’m so happy that I got out of the whole thing. Being just me is good enough. And besides, would not Hod’s men have turned on their own? I mean if you love purity and order and people being white, I must be on the death list. As would Hod and his minions. Despite being white. And despite fucking everything that has a pulse. Or not. The Island of the Dead 02: Champawat
01:08:00
In the beginning of the 1900’s the villagers in Rupal in western Nepal were being routinely attacked and eaten by a Bengal tigress. The attacks happened in broad daylight and life across the region became paralyzed as men refused to leave their huts for fear of the attacks. Hunters and soldiers were sent after the tiger and managed to chase her into India, where she began her killing yet again. When finally shot in 1907 it was estimated that she had killed 436 people. The Strand was a monthly magazine published from 1891 to 1950 featuring fiction, illustrations and puzzles. At its peak it sold half a million copies every month. Sir Athur Conan Doyle’s character Sherlock Holmes began its life in The Strand through the serialization of “The Hounds of Baskervilles” and it was during that time the magazine reached its peak in sales. "Faraday" by Anders Fager, Chapter 15
00:01:41
I hate things without Elsa. I hate this loss of energy. I wish I could be outside. I would like to sit about and be useless like the Bloomsbury people. Walk around in parks and do arts and crafts and talk about revolutions other people will carry out. The empire will fall apart. I can see it in the cards, though few believe me yet. And I must decide where to stay. Where to reside more or less permanently. I cannot move about anymore. My present condition makes travel too dangerous. Even traveling to the continent is a gamble. Vibeke Nachtstahl is tempting me to come down. “Join me and my master”, she says. “You will see things differently”. “You need that”. “It will be good for you.” Donovan torched himself one morning. Just got fed up and stayed out in the sun. I’m not there yet. I will find a way. 00:01:41
“Take responsibility.” So, the card of justice says. Yet it is Tiphareth’s card. Tiphanny the Slum Rat’s mistress. The mistress of chaos. The insane spider in the center of the web. Like the other angels she does not like my kind. Wonder what she would say if I took her servant Tiphanny as my mistress. Or the other way around. I saw her a couple of years ago. Tiphanny the Rat. She has not aged much. I wonder if she remembers years ago at Rippers’s? Me and Elsa fucked forever with her back against some war memorial? We did magic. The Slum Rat was there. The little bitch likes to watch. Bet she still does. Elsa is just an automation these days. A senile half-life that lacks the sense to die. I decided not to keep her. Will kill her properly. 00:01:29
Our friends are dead. All of my silly young entourage has been shot to shreds. Leaving me to cope with the morons I’ve braved for half a century already. Donovan, the Hyatt Brothers, the Corpse Queens and the Darmstadt sisters. Nice people in many ways, but why did the nice young ones have to go? The only one I know of the old ones that tried hard to be killed was Laura Stanley. The old hag. I almost admire her. Playing a bloodsucking Florence Nightingale at 50 going on 1000. “It will be such a feast…” I heard that my brother lost two of his sons. I wish I could pay the Germans back for that. 00:01:29
I saw an aero plane today. Amazing. Elsa did not see it. She has left again. Spinster by the sea time-again. I doubt she will come back much better. Half senile and there will soon be tea. Forever. She is dependent on me to live but her mind is too far gone. She is wearing out, but being next to me keeps her body reasonably in shape. Without me she will fade away. Perhaps I need to take command. To press on to victory. To be the strict and unforgiving judge and jury. Being merciless is a kind of relief. And who would I take my war and my judgement to? Sweet Donovan? So silly of me picking a lover that was afraid of the dark. The queen of the world has died. “Death”, Seymour once said flashing one of his beloved tarot cards. “The card means permanent change. Like death.” “So, we still believe death is the end?” “Or at least permanent change.” “Or just a beginning.” I wish I could say this had any bearing on Victoria. Did she die? I do think so? Definitely. But do those high and mighty die like normal people? Doubtfully. I would not be the least surprised if she showed up here among me and Donovan and the other not quite deceased. Curse of Strahd 34: Earl of Cornwall
00:45:54
Piers Gaveston was a nobleman, earl of Cornwall and favorite of King Edward II of England. The two were like brothers, inseparable and the king relied upon Gaveston as a sort of deputy, although he had no such official title. The two were even so close that rumors began to fly about them being lovers, something that later chroniclers have reinforced. This, and more importantly Gaveston’s exclusive access to the king’s patronage, led the king to be pressured by the nobility in to sending Gaveston away in exile a total of three times. The final time Gaveston was told that he would be branded an outlaw if he returned, and when he still did he was hunted down and murdered by a group of nobles. Seymour is gone. The stupid bugger is gone. He and part of his prison fell down into some hellhole in Inferno. I’ve not gone there to examine things. But I can say “what did I tell you” for the rest of my unnatural life. Elsa is gone too. At least in spirit. She has gone to the seaside “for her lungs” to wither away in some endless afternoon. But I have my new friends. I have rebelled against rebellion. I have my new friends. My new religion. I never understood just how it started. I started to meet these people that enjoyed fucking and blood. Fine. They were not thinking about things like Seymour does. Donovan or Chandra the Dancer in mad Beirut were happy fucking and drinking blood without much thinking. Suited me fine. In the end I wanted to be like them. "Faraday" by Anders Fager, Chapter 9
00:01:42
In the realm of the all-embracing empire of Queen Vicky the star is a naked woman signifying hope and purity. In the tarot that Seymour desires it is Golab the master of torture, whom he claims to be a woman. “Because women are more cruel, don’t you think?” He sneers at Elsa. Of course. That is why we don’t meet that often anymore. All the magic in the world aside, he is becoming more and more of a jealous asshole. He cannot get between me and Elsa. I wish I could tell him to just fuck himself and go back to his little prison. We have become so different over the last ten years. He has a real job. Perhaps that is what makes him become more just plain cruel. And I am a plain bore hanging out with Donovan’s gang and the promise of never growing old. Elsa is getting old. Fifty in two years. The latest from the strange lands. In Africa the country of Nywere has disappeared. Just like that. In London Cheseds old girlfriend Nekemi is still alive and hiding in an attic rented by me and Seymour. I feel a bit like the icon on the card. A white man giving water to a black man. Or in this case woman. I’m offering something small for the knowledge of a continent. The lovers talk about new relationships. Time to bring love into the center stage to of your life. Me and Elsa had a flirt with Donovan the Dandy. And in the midst of that debauchery I thought of my parents. How did they even get around to the fucking that brought me around? 00:01:30
There was so much going on behind the doors of the upper classes. All the drugs and the fornication and experiments in magic. We reveled in it. And I just loved it when Crowley tore up the Golden Dawn. All those pretentious little brats. Me, Elsa and Seymour loved him. All that carnal magic. The transformations and ecstasies. Of course the high and mighty loved him and kept him at an arm’s length. We went all in. Especially Seymour. “Do you know”, he snarled. “The way I view the tarot. “Strength” should be named “lust” as that is closer to the truth.” We fall over each other begging for his truth. “Gamichicoth is the angel of false hope”, Seymour said. “The sixteenth card. It is called “The Tower” in the more mundane tarot.” “The false friend and helper.” Elsa said. “But the tower signifies tragedy or disaster”, I said. “Change. At least change.” All these contradictions and new truths. All these things you and your friends find so new and interesting. The Golden Dawn that at first turned the world into a much more spiritual and interesting place. Then you realize that there is a ying to every yang. "Faraday" by Anders Fager, Chapter 5
00:01:48
The pool of London. All these ships. All this dirt and the humanity and the rats climbing all over it. Me and Elsa could walk the docks for hours just taking in the spectacle. All that is empire. Greed and lust and strength. Lust and greed and the strength it gives. All these colonial riches. And I am exactly where I want to be. London. Strong and rich and so full of this lust I’ve learnt of. All this power. All these bodies. All those ships and streets and ghosts that fade in and out of the other city. I see roman galleys on the river. Longships. The whole mystery is so obvious here. We even dared to go to the Chinese quarters and tried their opium out. We rode the dragon while an English teen girl from the slums stood and watched us. The Chinese called her “the rat”. 00:01:48
There is always a woman involved. Somehow. Or at least a ying to the yang. Not a succubi or a whore but a priestess. A teacher. She came to me this fall, my third term in Oxford. A daughter of one of the professors. She had traveled with her father all over the Middle East and to India. A true daughter of the empire. Very resourceful. Very unwomanlike. And hence a perfect goddess. She had everything I had searched for. Everything I dreamt of after reading all those silly romance stories. And more. Elsa Wolfe. The wolf’s daughter. The bitch. We went to London together. Dirty, sinful, magical London. We told people we stayed with this or that uncle, but in reality. London. Dark London. Our first weekend together healed parts of me in ways that made me a firm believer in fucking. Curse of Strahd 33: The Hussite Wars
01:00:09
In 1402 the Bohemian priest and scholar Jan Hus denounced the Catholic Church as corrupt and began preaching about reformation of the church in the land. The people listened as the church was indeed corrupt and so many, especially Czech’s, supported this cause that the pope ultimately had to declare a crusade against these “Hussites” who had even had the gall to occupy the castles of Prague. Using modern weaponry like hand cannons and well thought out battle tactics the Hussites defeated five consecutive crusades sent against them and became a sort of spontaneous military power in the region. The Hussite movement would ultimately fall from within when a moderate and radical faction, the Utraquists and Taborites, ended up fighting a war that weakened both sides, ultimately allowing Polish troops under Wladyslaw III to defeat the Hussites at the Battle of Grotniki in 1439. 00:01:48
I was fourteen when my father died in Abyssinia. Did he die fighting the Mad King Theodosius? No. He died from dysentery. Shat himself to death. Better mutter something about the Mad King. And glory and Empire. All these sad, lonely deaths I’ve seen being turned into something glorious and purposeful. And my mother wore black for a long time. In fact I cannot recall ever seeing her in anything but black afterwards. On the other hand, I do not remember the last time we met. Sometimes the two tarots are extremely conflicting. And in this case it had a bearing on my brooding. The hermit is about being alone with one’s thoughts which felt quite appropriate then. But according to Seymour it should be Netzach the warrior on the card. Should I have imagined some Indian or Chinese Boxer monk? A Blackskirt or a Dervish? All these dead heroes. I met Seymour the Young Magician in school when I was nine. In the college of most holy saint silly of the blessed boredom he was my partner and best friend and not much of a magician then. I do not think we were different from any other messed up sons of servants of the empire. Not much. We were bullied and bullied back. We played soldiers and explorers and tried to learn Latin and French because that was what young gentlemen were supposed to learn. We buggered and got buggered. "Faraday" by Anders Fager, Chapter 1
00:02:16
The great sacred tarot you only throw once in you life stated that I was born under the sign of Nahemoth. What a bliss! What a favorable sign! “Oh, dear. Rupert was born under the aegis of Nahemoth, god of the twisted freak.” Praise be, the silly angel of ugly. I was a pretty child. So I have been told. My first memory is darting around on a lawn. My parents sit, both of them together, at a small table. They are talking about something I do not understand. I remember thinking then that I wanted to understand. Later on I remember thinking back on scenes like that wishing them to be together more often. They were nice people, both of them. They just had no idea how to handle being a couple, let alone love. Being married and having children was just some chore they did because they were supposed to. Ages later I can still wish I had had the courage then to ask how it felt. Did they become friends or did they love each other, or were they just somehow working together? Born under Nahemoth. Silly angel of ugly. I grew up to be handsome. Perhaps the deformity was in my soul. Or in my parents shunted hearts. Music by Atrium Carceri Tarot card art by Axel Torvenius

Curse of Strahd 32: Blazer's Mill
01:20:48
The Lincoln County Regulators was a deputized posse that included the famous outlaws Billy the Kid and Charlie Bowdre. They had been sent to New Mexico to hunt down anyone involved in the murder of merchant and rancher John Tunstall. A buffalo hunter called Buckshot Roberts had been implicated and caught the interest of the Regulators and on April 4th 1878 he ended up in a standoff with the Regulators, having barricaded himself in a building owned by the dentist Joseph H. Blazer. Impatient, the leader of the Regulators, Dick Brewer, decided to attack. A violent gunfight ensued with Buckshot Roberts managing to wound three of the Regulators, including shooting off George Coe’s trigger finger and knocking Billy the Kid senseless with the butt of his rifle. He was also shot in the gut himself though and seriously wounded. Dick Brewer tried to attack from the back of the house only to be hit in the eye. The Regulators were stunned by this turn of events and decided to retreat. Roberts died the next day and he and Brewer were buried side by side near the house that the “Gunfight at Blazer’s Mill” had centered around. Curse of Strahd 31: Claíomh Solais
01:06:27
The Sword of Light is an object that appears in many Scottish and Irish folktales. In the tales the hero is usually set upon a quest to perform three tasks to win his bride and is aided by animal companions, supernatural beings and also very often the woman he wishes to marry. The blade is said to burn like a candle with a fiery blaze and is very often kept by a giant. This giant is usually invulnerable to conventional weapons and must be defeated through trickery or by attacking its Achilles heel. Oftentimes the secret of where to attack is given to the hero by his lady. The radiant sword has also been connected with Excalibur from Arthurian legend, a sword that was said to have blinded its enemies when it was first drawn.

Curse of Strahd 30: Skull-Face
01:00:04
Skull-Face is a novella written by Robert E. Howard in 1929 and was published in the ”Weird Tales” magazine. The main villain of the story, the eponymous Skull-face, is a resurrected necromancer from Atlantis determined to awaken all of the remaining Atlanteans, sleeping in their submerged sarcophagi, and creating a new world order with them as the ruling elite. The hero of the story is Steve Costigan, a dope-fiend who has nightmares of Skull-Face and is unwittingly pulled into his web of intrigue. Skull-Face is an early example in fiction of wizards and sorcerers returning from the dead more powerful than they were before. The term that has come to be used for this kind of being is “Lich”. Curse of Strahd 29: Garuda
00:51:25
The Garuda is a massive eagle-like creature, described as the king of the birds, that appears in Hinduism and Buddhism. Portrayed as the god Vishnu’s mount or as a dharma protector in Buddhism it seems as though the myth about this powerful bird predates both religions. Garuda can swiftly fly anywhere, appearing where it’s services as a protector are required. It is a sworn enemy of the serpent and is in various forms used in the state insignias of both India, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia. The legend of Garuda has travelled west, morphing in to the middle eastern legend of the Roc; a similar eagle like creature that appears in “One Thousand and One Nights”. Curse of Strahd 28: Terra Nova
00:57:26
In 1911 Captain Robert Scott led an expedition of adventurers that were dead set on being the first to reach the South Pole on Antarctica. They had received funding for the expedition from the public with the support of a government grant. The admiralty provided transportation and experienced seamen for the journey. It was supposed to be a heroic success proving to the world yet again the superiority of the British Empire. Hubris and arrogance was brought in great supply. The preparations for the expedition were a complete disaster with Scott opting against using dogs to pull the sleighs, which was a proven method, instead opting for horses. Horses were a much more romantic way to travel after all, more fitting for a gentleman. He also brought a specially built motorized sleigh. The man who had built the sleigh was supposed to join the journey but was told to stay behind last minute, meaning nobody could fix it when it eventually broke down. He also brought five men instead of the four he had planned for, and messed up his calculation of the rations on top of that meaning they brought way too little food. He also didn’t properly seal his fuel containers, in spite of having experienced that in a previous journey, making them leak and robbing the crew of the ability to cook and keep themselves warm. On top of all of this he only brought one navigator who wasn’t trained in reading latitudes. The expedition reached the South Pole, second after Amundsen’s expedition, missing them by 34 days. On the return journey they were unable to find their supply drops, due to their navigator having messed up the coordinates. All of the five men perished from the cold and starvation. Curse of Strahd 27: Einstein-Rosen Bridge
00:50:49
A wormhole is a speculative structure that connects two points in space-time, either separated by vast distances or by time. Their existence is hypothesized based on a solution of Einstein’s field equations and a number of possible types of wormholes have been proposed to exist by different scientists. If we imagine space-time as a sheet of paper, and draw two separate dots on one side of the paper, far from each other, we can fold the paper; folding space-time, to connect the two and thus create a direct route. Schwarschild theorized that such wormholes would only allow for one-way travel, but Thorne proposed that using exotic matter one might be able to hold the “throat” of a wormhole open and allow for travel back and forth. Curse of Strahd 26: Death Spiral
01:16:15
A shortcut in accounting is to book overhead costs based on sales volume of products rather than by activity the cost was related to. Through this, when analyzing profitability, high volume, successful products end up looking less profitable than they actually are, and low volume sellers inversely look significantly better for the profit & loss than they actually are. This then tends to cause the management of the company in question to discontinue the successful product, try to outsource the product in order to reduce overhead or increase the price in order to increase profit margin. All of these actions have the potential to kill the popularity of the product, thus forcing the accountant to again move overhead costs to the remaining top sellers, with exactly the same results for them. This is known as the “Death Spiral”. Campaign: “Curse of Strahd”, Dungeons & Dragons Music by: Metatron Omega, Flowers for Bodysnatchers & Wordclock

Coriolis - Last Voyage of the Ghazali 03: Molossus
00:57:07
The Molossus is a now extinct breed of dogs that are believed to be the ancestors of today’s Mastiff-type dogs. Originally a sheep-herding dog used in ancient Epirus (today parts of Albania and Greece) these vicious and muscular dogs were described by the poet Grattius thus ”...when serious work has come, when bravery must be shown, and the impetuous War-gods calls in the utmost hazard, then you could not but admire the renowned Molossians so much”. The powerful dogs were used in Epirotan tribal wars and later also by the Roman Empire under Marcus Aurelius. The dogs were trained specifically for battle by the Romans and given spiked metal collars and mail armor. The Romans are even said to have gone so far as to arranging the dogs in attack formations before unleashing them upon their enemies. Curse of Strahd 25: Tudós kocsis
00:54:17
The word “coach”, describing a covered horse-drawn carriage for passengers or mail, is derived from the name of the Hungarian town “Kocs” where the coach is believed to have been invented. Hungarian villages still today hold competitions for “Coachman of the Year” and the coachmen have even found their way in to Hungarian Folklore. In the stories the “Clever Coachman” appears out of the blue during the hero’s journey, inviting him to enter the coach. The coachman will then end up not taking the hero where he wants to go, rather taking him where he needs to be; thus making fortunate turns in the plot more plausible and making unexpected twists possible. Under Suleiman the Magnificent, who ruled from 1522 to 1566, the Ottoman Empire reached its apex, conquering Belgrade and most of Hungary until finally being stopped at the gates of Vienna. The Ottoman fleets dominated the Mediterranean and reached as far the Indian Ocean. The empire also went through a golden age of culture and literature under Suleiman's competent watch. He went against tradition and married a Christian woman from his harem, made famous in the west as Roxelana and said to have had red hair. At the time of his death the Ottoman Empire dominated much of the Middle East and the North African coastline and had made Moldavia, Crimea, Transylvania and Wallachia into vassals of the Empire. Curse of Strahd 24: Caroline Test
00:51:53
Striking at an enemy before they can strike against you is known as ”pre-emptive self-defense” and traditionally two conditions, known as the “Caroline test” need to be fulfilled to justify such an action. The "Caroline" was an American steamboat used to supply settlers rebelling against the British Colonial government in Canada in 1837. American sympathizers provided weapons and food to the rebels, effectively keeping them in a fight they would otherwise lose. The British decided that enough was enough and a force entered the United States during the night, set the boat ablaze and spectacularly sent it over the Niagara Falls. One American was killed in the operation. The British argued that this was simply self-defense because A) The threat was imminent. B) No peaceful alternatives existed. C) The action was proportional with a clear goal that it achieved. It has since become accepted as part of customary international law and was for example cited at the Nuremberg Tribunal. While normal memories are stores in the hippocampus, the amygdala, which is an emotion center, is where memories created by traumatic events live. If you are the victim of violence and your brain and hippocampus has been damaged, this means you might not be able to clearly remember the person that has caused you that trauma. Curse of Strahd 23: Capacocha
00:54:13
The ”solemn sacrifice” was a sacrificial rite conducted by the Incas on the order of the Incan emperor to celebrate important events in the emperor's life or to prevent natural disasters. It was a human sacrifice done with the intention of sending humanity’s best to join their deities. To ensure that the souls given were pure, children were typically used for this purpose. Until the sacrifice would take place the chosen children were fed well to ensure they would be happy when the time came. During the sacrifice they were dressed in royal clothes and paraded around the four statues depicting the Creator, the Sun God, the Moon God and the Thunder God. The murder was done by a blow to the skull, strangulation or by making them intoxicated and then leaving them to lose consciousness on a mountaintop where the cold and low oxygen conditions would lead to death by hypothermia. The One Ring: The Kin-strife
02:14:47
We have something special for you today. We have played the short adventure “The distressed husband” from the classic MERP module “The Kin-strife” using the rules from The One Ring by Cubicle 7. "The Kin-strife" is a module about the civil war in Gondor between traditionalists and loyalists that took place about 1600 years before the events in “Lord of the Rings”. “But Valacar far exceeded his father’s designs. He grew to love the Northern lands and people, and he married Vidumavi, daughter of Vidugavia…” “Therefore when Eldacar succeeded his father there was war in Gondor. But Eldacar did not prove easy to thrust from his heritage. To the lineage of Gondor he added the fearless spirit of the Northmen. He was handsome and valiant, and showed no sign of ageing more swiftly than his father. When the confederates led by the descendants of the kings rose against him, he opposed them to the end of his strength. At last he was besieged in Osgiliath, and held it long, until hunger and the greater forces of the rebels drove him out, leaving the city in flames. In that siege and burning the Tower of the Stone of Osgiliath was destroyed, and the palantir was lost in the waters.” Music by: Andreas Lundström and tracks from the compilation “Behind the canvas of time” by Cryo Chamber. Curse of Strahd 22: Orcus
00:44:24
Orcus is a god of the underworld in Etruscan mythology. He is often portrayed as a blind, bestial, gigantic, tusk-faced monster who eats human flesh; similar to the Cyclops, and is said to be the punisher of broken oaths. Primarily worshiped in the remote countryside people continued worshiping him well in to the Middle Ages. His connection with the underworld has led to his name being connected with fairy tale monsters in popular fiction. Tolkien’s famous orcs for example have their name derived from Orcus. Another fairy tale monster whose name comes from Orcus are the Ogres. Large giant-like beasts, they are said to have inhabited the British isles before humans settled there. Curse of Strahd 21: Damocles
00:57:15
At the tyrant Dionysius II of Syracuse’s court there was a courtier named Damocles. According to the story Damocles was flattering the king and telling him how great and fortunate a man he was to have so much authority and magnificence. The king seemed pleased and offered to switch places with Damocles for a day so that he could get a taste of that fortune himself. Damocles accepted and was sat down at the opulent throne surrounded by all the luxury the kingdom could offer. But Dionysius had arranged that a huge sword should hang above the throne, held only by a single hair of a horse’s tail, only a moment away from falling on Damocles and ending his life. Damocles saw this and begged the king to switch back as he no longer wanted to be so “fortunate”; having realized that with great fortune and power comes great danger. Modeled on the orders from the Crusades, its purpose was to fight the enemies of Christianity in general and the Ottoman Empire in particular. Its members pledged to: “In company with the prelates, barons, and magnates of our kingdom, whom we invite to participate with us in this party, by reason of the sign and effigy of our pure inclination and intention to crush the pernicious deeds of the same perfidious Enemy, and of the followers of the ancient Dragon, and of the pagan knights, schismatics, and other nations of the Orthodox faith, and those envious of the Cross of Christ, and of our kingdoms, and of his holy and saving religion of faith, under the banner of the triumphant Cross of Christ...” One of its members was Vlad II Dracul, "Vlad the Dragon". Curse of Strahd 19: Arachnid
00:58:13
In Greek mythology the woman Arachne was a very talented weaver, credited with inventing linen cloth and nets and whose son was said to have introduced the use of the spindle in wool manufacturing. These were incredible discoveries and according to the stories, such as the one by the Roman poet Ovid, Arachne was filled with hubris, boasting that her prowess as a weaver exceeded even that of the goddess Athena. Athena was incensed by this and set up a contest with Arachne to determine who truly was the most skilled. Athena’s weaving depicted other contests in which the gods had punished mortals that set themselves as equals to the gods, to show how wrong Arachne was to challenge the gods. Arachne’s weaving on the other hand depicted ways in which the gods had misled and abused mortals. Athena was enraged by this insult to the gods, and the fact that Arachne’s weaving was more beautiful than hers. She destroyed Arachne’s work and drove her to commit suicide through hanging. Athena cursed her saying “Live on then, and yet hang, condemned one, but, lest you are careless in future, this same condition is declared, in punishment, against your descendants, to the last generation!” The goddess then sprinkled Hecate’s herb on her “making Arachne's hair fall out. With it went her nose and ears, her head shrank to the smallest size, and her whole body became tiny. Her slender fingers stuck to her sides as legs, the rest is belly, from which she still spins a thread, and, as a spider, weaves her ancient web.” Campaign: “Curse of Strahd”, Dungeons & Dragons Music by: Metatron Omega, Flowers for Bodysnatchers & Wordclock

Coriolis: A Song for Jarouma 02

Here comes the conclusion to our first journey in Fria Ligan's Coriolis and the Third Horizon, as well as the end of this prologue to the campaign "Emissary Lost". Will the crew be able to repair the installations and get the data they need from each of the quadrants? Or will the violent storms in the atmosphere of Xene claim their shuttle and all aboard? "The hull groans from the stress as the shuttle descends into the growing storm. The passengers hold on tight as Xene’s hurricane winds hit the hull and steering jets, doing their best to push the shuttle back out into the dark void. The pilot is focused on the flight control screens. Interfering noise washes over the internal speakers as she bites down nervously on a piece of well-chewed tabak. – “We should be there now. Check the sensors for any sign of the beacons. I need coordinates NOW, or this ride will end up in flames!"

Hjalmar plays the pilot Leila Hatami and Craig the technician Alam Dania, who are part of a team of researchers contracted to install and oversee an experiment known as the “Jarouma pattern”. They are still blissfully unaware of the roles they will play in events that will shake the Third Horizon to its foundations. "By the Icons, it looks like we have succeeded. Readouts from quadrant 2 and 3 are confirmed. Both frequencies align with the Jarouma pattern. Alam will attach the data dumps. But, we have grave news. The mission is in danger. Weather is getting worse, and we’ve run into several incidents during the mission. Two of our crew-members are hurt and simulations indicate that the shuttle may not hold up to the stress as we try to reach quadrant 4. We pray to the Icons that this message will get through..."

Curse of Strahd 18: Lychantrope
01:04:44
Werewolves are widespread in European folklore, with stories of men turning in to wolves going back to late antiquity. In Western Europe werewolves were often connected with shape-shifting sorcerers and witches who abducted children. During the European witch hunts large numbers of people, especially in France, were accused of being werewolves and burned at the stake for it. In Eastern Europe however it seems that some of the stories may have originated from Viking berserkers dressed in wolves’ hides, resistant to pain and fighting viciously to the end; not unlike the animal whose hide they were wearing. The stories there focused more on the superhuman speed and strength, such as in the tale of Vseslav the prince who ruled the town during the day and prowled in the guise of a wolf all across Belarus and Ukraine during the night. Gradually the stories of werewolves in Eastern Europe became intertwined with those of the vampires. Curse of Strahd 16: Prometheus
01:06:18
The story of Prometheus, the champion who stole fire from the gods to give to humanity, is a story about us as a species. It's about our efforts to improve our existence and not accepting things as they are. It's also a tragic story about overreach and unintended consequences for that ambition. The immortal Prometheus is ultimately punished by the gods and bound to a rock. Every day an eagle would come to eat his liver, only to have it grow back overnight; repeating the process the next day. The liver was thought to be the seat of human emotions, and similar to Mary Shelley's "Modern Prometheus", Victor Frankenstein, both men suffer greatly for their ambitions. In Frankenstein one of the final words of the protagonist is to "avoid ambition". But we wouldn't be human if we did... Curse of Strahd 15: Traducianism
01:07:34
Traducianism is a Christian doctrine about the origins of the soul originally championed by scholars such as Tertullian. It holds that God created Adam’s soul but that all the souls created thereafter are actually generated naturally along with the body and derived from the individual’s parents. This is in opposition to the creationist view on souls which states that God creates each new individual soul. Traducianists argue that this does not make sense in relation to fundamental tenets such as the original sin. God created all things ”very good” but in order for the original sin to be transferred, the creationist view would require God to create sinful souls. They also argue that God’s creation is supposed to be finished, so how could he still be required to create new souls? Finally, in Genesis 6 there are stories of offspring with human bodies and demonic souls, resulting from the union of angels and humans. Surely God could not be responsible for having created those demonic souls? However, the creationist view is held firmly today within the Roman Catholic Church. It is in line with the churches’ stance against abortion and according to _“The Catechism of the Catholic Church”_, 366, “_The Church teaches that every spiritual soul is created immediately by God – it is not ‘ produced’ by the parents_”, thus helping the church to, in their view, solidify the personhood and sanctity of each embryo. KULT: Divinity Lost - Oakwood Heights, Act II
01:01:00
Oakwood Heights is in the heavily industrialized southwestern part of Detroit. The neighborhood is relatively densely populated but also ranks as the most polluted in all of Michigan. The population has dropped by more than 20% since the year 2000 and is 75% African-American with almost 30% of all residents living below the poverty line. Most states have regulations regarding how close industries can be to residential areas, but not Michigan. The Marathon Petroleum Company is located right by the neighborhood and long-term residents, unsurprisingly, have higher levels of respiratory diseases and cancer. In 2010 the Detroit Free Press reported this about the area “For the past six months, a rain of mysterious sparkly dust of unknown origin has landed on their homes and gardens. Curse of Strahd 14: Westinghoused
00:51:28
Electrocution is a portmanteau of” electro” and “execution” and was originally coined to describe electrical execution through the electric chair. At the time the “war of currents” between Thomas Edison’s direct current (DC) and George Westinghouse’s alternating current (AC) was at its peak. Edison and anti-AC activist Harold Brown had managed to get AC to be selected for powering the chair and were now portraying it as the “executioner’s current”. The New York Times, who was generally supportive of Edison, tried to introduce the word “Westinghoused” to describe the execution method and thus discredit AC. The war raged on with DC scoring many propaganda victories like this. However, AC was ultimately victorious, this after Thomas Edison had ended up sidelined in the new Edison General Electric company and he, and his dogmatic anti-AC stance, no longer kept the war going. Tales from the Loop: Horror Movie Mayhem, Part 2 of 2

Moral panic was widespread fear and social concern of a, usually hitherto unknown, evil that threatened society and, preferably, innocent children. The fear was spread by ”moral entrepreneurs” as well as the mass media. Often it related to new phenomena that young people enjoyed, such as heavy metal music, roleplaying games or video nasties. Moral panic could also be generated targeting groups that were seen as threats to social norms in a community, outsiders like mods and rockers or the LGBT community. It’s good that we have gotten past this as a society… now it will never happen again. Adventure: “Horror Movie Mayhem", Tales from the Loop, Fria Ligan Music by: Gabrielle De Bourg

We recently had the opportunity to do a collaboration with Josh and Tallsquall from Encounter Roleplay and our own DM extraordinaire Craig decided to take them to the lovely neighborhood of Oakwood Heights, Detroit in the year 2015. Enjoy! "It is a grey and cold winter’s day in Detroit, as members of the public prosecutor’s office and police force shepherd the accused Franklin Mills around his crime scenes, located throughout the city. Curse of Strahd 13: Heliophobia
01:00:55
In Bram Stoker’s "Dracula" the eponymous Count was weakened by sunlight, but it did not kill him. Trying to trace where the idea of vampires exploding in to a cloud of dust or catching on fire when in sunlight seems to lead to the 1922 movie Nosferatu. In the movie, Count Orlok needs to sleep by day as the sunlight would otherwise kill him. One theory goes that this element was introduced in order to differentiate the story somewhat from "Dracula" which it quite proudly stole most of it's plot from. The attempts at differentiating were not enough however and the movie company Prana Film was forced to declare bankruptcy after Florence Stoker, Bram’s widow and holder of the estate, sued the company for copyright infringement and won. Hamartia is a term used to describe turns of events in dramatic literature and usually refers to the protagonists erring or having a fatal flaw, setting off a chain of events that reverses their fortunes and leads to their downfall. In his treatise Poetics, Aristotle deemed hamartia to be necessary to create the optimal tragic hero and achieve catharsis. He wrote: "...the character between these two extremes – that of a man who is not eminently good and just, yet whose misfortune is brought about not by vice or depravity, but by some error or frailty. “ Campaign: “Curse of Strahd”, Dungeons & Dragons Music by: Metatron Omega, Flowers for Bodysnatchers & Wordclock

Curse of Strahd 11: Kresnik
01:04:15
Legends in Slovenia and Croatia speak of the "Kresnik", a shaman whose spirit wanders into that of an animal at night. It does this to protect the lives of the people of the land, fighting the evil powers that stalk the night. The Kresnik's nemesis is the "Kudlak", a vampiric animal that he hunts, said to represent the evil in the world. The word Kresnik may have been derived from the Slav word for “resurrect”, making the Kresnik the “resurrector”. Curse of Strahd 10: Valravn
00:57:32
According to Danish folklore, when a chieftain was killed in battle but never found, ravens would come and eat him. The ravens that ate the chieftain’s heart would gain human intelligence and supernatural powers. They would also become malicious and evil, leading wanderers astray. These ravens were known as "Valravn", "raven of the slain". Other accounts speak of the Valravn as a restless soul flying through the night as a raven. One tale tells of a Valravn that helps a maiden find her lost betrothed in return for the life of her firstborn. The maiden agrees and the Valravn flies off… returning years later when the couple has had their first child. It then asks the maiden if she has forgotten her promise, proceeding to rip in to the chest of the child and drinking the blood from its heart. According to the story the Valravn then turned in to a knight, presumably having been returned to its former life. Western: The Baron of Barbary Coast, Part 3 of 3
00:56:04
The San Francisco earthquake of 1906 was the beginning of the end for the Barbary Coast. The district was heavily damaged by the quake and the subsequent fires. Reconstruction did happen and it did see a brief revival as a somewhat cleaned-up entertainment area. In 1913, and the fervor leading up to the prohibition of alcohol, the mayor of San Francisco, a man knows as "Sunny Jim", began a crusade against the moral decay that The Barbary Coast was the embodiment of. He was backed up by Randolph Hearst's news empire and there was little that could stop the crusade from succeeding. The last brothel closed in 1917. So ends the tale of the hive of scum and villainy that was The Barbary Coast. Adventure: The Baron of Barbary Coast, Western, Åskfågeln. Part 3 of 3. Music: Phonothek Recorded at: GothCon

Curse of Strahd 09: 4'33
00:50:03
Four minutes, thirty-three seconds is a composition by the American composer John Cage from 1952. The score instructs the performers not to play their instruments for the duration of the piece. It is effectively, four minutes and thirty-three seconds of silence… But not complete silence. Because there is always the sound of the environment where the piece is performed. For Cage 4’33 epitomized his idea that any combination of sounds can be music. Campaign: “Curse of Strahd”, Dungeons & Dragons Music by: Metatron Omega, Flowers for Bodysnatchers & Wordclock

Western: The Baron of Barbary Coast, Part 2 of 3.
00:51:11
Western: The Baron of Barbary Coast, Part 2 of 3. The Barbary Coast was San Francisco's red light district during the latter part of the 19th and early 20th century. It featured dance halls, saloons, variety shows and brothels. It was the California Gold Rush of 1849 that had given birth to the district, giving the tens of thousands of miners that had arrived something to spend their gold on. The area was mostly lawless and it was only vigilante justice that kept the Barbary Coast from descending into total chaos.

Curse of Strahd 08: Tastevin
00:54:00
The color of the wine is one indicator of how mature it is. As wine is stored and aged in dark cellars, Burgundian winemakers in the Middle Ages created the tastevin, a shallow saucer-like cup made of silver. The shiny inner surface would allow them to see the color of the wine even in candlelight. For hundreds of years it was simply a tool for winemakers but around the year 1700 it became fashionable for affluent Frenchmen to carry the tastevin in their pockets as a status symbol. Made by master silversmiths the tastevin would be engraved with the wearer’s name and be highly prized possessions. This changed with the French revolution when opulent displays of wealth, like carrying a silver cup around wherever you went, fell out of fashion. 01:05:10
The War Between the States is over, but the bitterness and the conflicts still remain. Ranch wars flare, rumors of gold summon thousands of adventurers, peaceful towns live in fear of outlaw gangs and justice is executed by the fastest gun. Cornelius Doubleday, the fiancé of the wealthy and highly successful businesswoman and estate owner Anne Rutledge, has gone missing during his charity work in the west. The last word from him was a request for a large sum of money, which made Anne wonder what exactly was going on out there. Now, with Cornelius's disappearance, there was nought to do but for Anne to set out on an expedition to find her fiancé and get some answers. With her she has her trusty butler, John A Bellinger, her dog Bessie, and two hired Pinkerton agents, Dexter Colby and Cedric Valentine, with a third agent, the local Jessie Tremaine, set to meet them at the San Francisco train station. Rupert Rutledge, Anne's spoiled dandy of a brother, has also come along on Anne's request. But does he perhaps have his own reasons for wanting a word with Mr Doubleday? Curse of Strahd 07: Wallachia
00:57:30
The area known as Wallachia is a historical region of Romania that, under the leadership of the legendary voivode Radu the Black, broke free from Hungary in 1290. As the years passed the Ottoman Empire was growing rapidly on the southern border and came to dominate much of the Balkans, including Wallachia which was ultimately forced to become a vassal of the growing empire in 1417. Accepting this status caused an internal crisis in the country that its leader, Vlad II Dracul, had to navigate carefully. The Ottoman Empire, knowing that Vlad had been a member of the ”Order of the Dragon”, a group of noblemen who opposed the Ottoman invasion, demanded Vlad II hand over his sons as hostages. He reluctantly accepted this and continued to rule an increasingly unruly nation. In 1447 Vlad II was assassinated by Wallachian noblemen. To avoid the country spiraling deeper in to chaos the Ottoman Empire released Vlad’s son, Vlad III Dracul, to take the reins of the nation. Vlad III put the conspirators to death and brought order... but did so with an iron fist that spared no cruelty to those that challenged him. He earned the nickname “the Impaler” because of his favored method of execution. Campaign: “Curse of Strahd”, Dungeons & Dragons Music by: Metatron Omega, Flowers for Bodysnatchers & Wordclock

Curse of Strahd 06: Métis
00:39:46
The French word Métis is derived from the latin _mixtus_ and refers to a hybrid or someone of mixed ancestry. The term is most commonly used for Canadians with dual Indian-White ancestry, typically tracing their lineage back to unions between European trappers and traders and Algonquian women. After the fall of New France in 1763 a distinctly unique identity began to foment among the Métis and they even formed their own nation. This Métis nation resisted the colonization efforts of Canada during the North-West rebellion and, while unsuccessful then, they are today recognized within the Canadian constitution as an ethnic group with their own culture and given special aboriginal rights. Curse of Strahd 05: Alfr
00:56:36
In the Prose Edda, a book written in 1220 by the Icelandic poet Snorri Sturluson, two kinds of elves are described. The Ljósálfar are the light elves, fairer than the sun to look at, dwelling in the heavenly Álfheimr. Then there are the Dökkálfar, dark and swarthy and living underground. The light and dark elves have been interpreted to be Sturluson taking the Christian stories of angels and demons and incorporating them in to Norse mythology. As the "Elucidarium", an encyclopedia of Christian stories had been translated to Icelandic in the previous century it is believed that this could have served as an inspiration for Sturluson. While the duality of light and dark, good and evil, are not unique to Christianity, it is still believed the stories of the light and dark elves may be one of few early examples of Christian stories being "paganised". Curse of Strahd 04: Cartomancy
01:08:13
Not long after playing cards appeared in Europe, around the 1400’s and 1500’s, they began to be used for fortune telling and divination. The tarot deck of playing cards especially became widely used for this purpose. There were theories that the practice originated in ancient Egypt and the mysteries of Isis. The French priest Antoine Court de Gébelin even asserted that the name Tarot came from the Egyptian words "Tar" (road) and "Ro" (king), and translated to ”The Royal Road of Life”. Other authors took this further and connected its usage with the Romani people and asserted that they were in fact “travelling Egyptians”. The mistaken belief that the Romani are originally of Egyptian origin is the etymology of the exonym “Gypsy”. Renfield syndrome, or clinical vampirism, is the unusual obsession with drinking blood. The syndrome is named after Dracula’s follower R.M. Renfield who appears in Bram Stoker’s novel from 1897 The condition has appeared in psychiatric literature dating as far back as 1892 and has usually been mentioned in connection with extraordinarily violent crimes. It’s not, however, recognized by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) and the very few cases that have been recorded could be regarded as forms of schizophrenia or paraphilia. The Shroud of Turin is believed by some to be the burial shroud that Jesus of Nazareth was wrapped in when he was buried after the crucifixion. The true nature of the shroud is a controversial topic however with many studies coming out supporting the shroud’s authenticity, and many rejecting it. The Black Madonna 35: Victory Day
01:14:56
The Great Patriotic War came to define the soul of the Soviet Union. It was a brutal, merciless slaughter and the Soviet war dead, both civilian and military, is estimated at 25 million people. 1.5 million of those died at the Siege of Leningrad. It was the sacrifice and perseverance of the people of the Soviet Union that ultimately defeated Nazi Germany. But what followed the war was not peace, but a Cold War, a paranoid regime that murdered millions of its own people, tried to control their thoughts and worked them to death in gulags. A dictatorship that made slaves of the people they supposedly had liberated. Half of Europe was plunged in to a repressive darkness… and dawn did not break until 1989. Yet, the sacrifices of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War are celebrated every year on May 9th at Red Square. Victory Day. This is the end. Apotheosis. 00:40:14
Mikhail Sergeyvich Gorbachev was the eighth and last leader of the Soviet Union. He launched the policies of glasnost and perestroika, allowed free speech and established elected legislatures at every level of power. His goal was not the destruction of the Soviet Union or the dismantling of the communist state, it was to modernize and reform the country. The communist system was a dictatorship with little regard for human rights yes, but Gorbachev insisted that there were many positive aspects that were worth saving. “We were too late with our reforms… The Soviet Union offered lots of prospects to those who lived there, and it could have had a future if it had modernized and adapted to new challenges. Yes, I regret its collapse very much” he said in an interview in 2011. Gorbachev was awarded the Nobel Peace prize in 1990 for his role in ending the Cold War. They were also used extensively during the dissolution of the Soviet Union as well as the later conflict in Chechnya. Their signature is the black berets that they wear. Allan Chumak was a faith healer whose TV show was popular in the years before the fall of the Soviet Union. Having lost their faith in communism and their government the populace turned to the supernatural and the “extrasensory powers” of Chumak. It was believed that he was capable of “distance-healing” and could make any liquid become a medicine able to heal illnesses. In anticipation of the show viewers across Russia would put jars with water, toothpaste and other liquids in front of their TV screens, waiting for Chumak to apply his powers through the airwaves. At its peak his show had millions of viewers, viewers hoping that a former journalist turned healer could make them healthy and… perhaps even help alleviate their fears of the impending collapse. The Black Madonna 31: Fulcrum
00:44:28
Mikoyan Gurevich 29, MiG-29. A beautiful killer, commissioned by Soviet High Command in 1969 specifically to dominate the air and counter the threat posed by the F-15 and F-16 fighter platforms. NATO designated it “Fulcrum”, one of the more flattering designations given to a Soviet aircraft. When the wall fell and Germany was reunited, the new German state retained a number of MiG-29s from the former East German Nationale Volksarmee. This was the first time NATO was able to get their hands on one of these planes and the German squadron flying the Fulcrums found themselves bombarded with requests from NATO pilots for a chance to fly against them. The biggest advantage the MiG-29 had was the monocular lens system the pilot could wear, giving him the ability to lock R73-Vympel missiles on targets far away from where the aircraft's nose was pointed to. Together with an excellent air frame this made the MiG-29 truly deadly in dogfights, humbling many of the foreign visitors in their first tangles with the Fulcrum. The Black Madonna 30: Polygal
00:49:04
Hauptsturmführer Sigmund Rascher was a doctor with the SS and, through his wife, a personal friend of Himmler. During the war he conducted several horrific human experiments at the concentration camp in Dachau. He had prisoners put in pressure chambers, trying to simulate the change in pressure that pilots falling freely from very high altitudes would experience. He also put prisoners in icewater tanks for hours, trying to find ways of curing hypothermia. One attempt was made to rewarm the victims by throwing them in boiling water. Another through human warmth, by placing the victim between naked Romani women from the Ravensbrück concentration camp. Rascher also experimented with blood coagulation and a compound named Polygal that would make wounds close faster. Subjects were given the compound and then shot with a pistol or had their limbs amputated to study the effects. Rascher met his end after having tried to trick Himmler that his wife had given birth to three children even after reaching the age of 48; that he had unlocked the secrets of fertility. Himmler used this in propaganda material and when it then turned out that Rascher had simply purchased or kidnapped the babies, Himmler felt betrayed. Rascher's punishment was to be sent to the Buchenwald concentration camp as a prisoner. He was finally moved to Dachau, were he had committed his inhuman experiments, and executed at the camp on the orders of Himmler three days before the Americans liberated it. The Black Madonna 29: Metapolitics
00:50:04
Especially among the far-right , the term ”metapolitics” is used to refer to activities that try to influence the political climate and politicians, without necessarily running in an election and hoping to win. The gist of the idea is that in situations when the idea itself, or the message carrier, is tainted by history to the mainstream public (such as in the case of the far-right) you need to begin by changing the political discourse and slowly making ideas that used to be unthinkable seem acceptable and logical. This way, you make your own ideas and your party an acceptable and reasonable alternative to vote for, in spite of its history. The easiest way to do this is by generating fear, creating distrust in the institutions of society and leveraging inherent xenophobia. A certain percentage of the population will always be swayed by this and “politicians finally daring to tell the truth”. The established parties will have no choice but to respond and often this will force them to start adopting your ideas, ultimately positioning you as a fully normal political force among others. Perhaps they will even invite you to join a ruling coalition? You would be surprised the compromises politicians are willing to make when the power to govern is on the line. That is when you make your final move. Campaign: "The Black Madonna", KULT: Divinity Lost Music by: Atrium Carceri

The Black Madonna 28: Lictor
00:46:31
Romulus, the first king of Rome, appointed 12 lictors to attend him. The lictors were bodyguards, strongly built men and often Centurions retired from the legion. They were assigned to Rome's emperors, magistrates and consuls. They carried fasces, bundles of wood sometimes including an axe with its blade emerging. This symbolized their power to, upon their master's command, punish Roman citizens and carry out capital punishment. The number of lictors a magistrate commanded symbolized his "imperium", or power to command. The Roman emperors had 12, which was increased to 24 for Dictators. The Black Madonna 27: Sonnenrad
00:47:35
The ideological center of the SS was at Wewelsburg castle in North Rhine-Westphalia. The organization was very interested in esoteric concepts and mysticism and it is believed that the castle still holds many secrets. One of them is in the Obergruppenführer hall, a room held up by twelve columns and with a dark sun symbol embedded in the floor. It is said that the floor design was made on the request of Himmler based on an "old Aryan emblem". Each spoke of the sun wheel supposedly represents one "knight" of the ”Order of Death’s head”, the inner core of the SS. Today the symbol is used by Neo-Nazis as an alternative to the, in many countries, outlawed swastika. Some believe that the black sun is a mystical source of energy, "capable of regenerating the Aryan race". Campaign: "The Black Madonna", KULT: Divinity Lost Music by: Atrium Carceri

The Black Madonna 26: White Aggression
01:01:45
“Vit Aggression” was a Swedish white power music group active during the late 80’s and 90’s. The members were affiliated with the Swedish branch of the Neo-Nazi organization “White Aryan Resistance” and they named their first album “Död åt Zog”, or “ Death to the Zionist Occupational Government”. Their sound is a mix between punk rock and heavy metal fairly typical for bands active on the white power scene In 1998 Vit Aggression played at the Brottby Neo-Nazi rock concert. Riot police ended up storming the concert and arresting 250 participants, most for hate speech and for doing Nazi salutes. Earlier, in 1991, they played at an event organized by the Sweden Democrats, a Swedish far right party with roots in Neo-Nazism, after a demonstration they held at the statue of Charles XII in Stockholm. Today the Sweden Democrats are Sweden’s third largest political party, with opinion polls for a time showing them to be the second largest. This was not a move welcomed by their rivals who in response formed a crew designed specifically to counter the influence of the Hells Angels. The crew was called “Bullshit MC” and made their home in Christiania, the free town in Copenhagen were the trade in cannabis was tolerated. Bullshit MC grew rich there for a few years and in 1983 decided that the time had come to pay the new Hells Angels chapter a “visit”. That visit started a war lasting for two years and four months. Eight members of Bullshit MC, one Hells Angels member and two civilians lost their lives during the violent shootouts. Bullshit MC was blamed for the loss of civilian life and when the police raided their club house they found a corpse buried underneath the floor. The Hells Angels had emerged victorious… but they would soon meet new resistance. Campaign: "The Black Madonna", KULT: Divinity Lost Music by: Atrium Carceri

The Black Madonna 24: Decree 770
00:50:50
In 1967 the Romanian Communist Party, under Nicolae Ceaușescu, issued Decree 770. The decree banned abortion in all but a few cases and banned contraception. The goal was to counter the drop in births that had begun as a result of the high female labor participation and liberal abortion policies. Sex education was even changed to focus on the benefits of motherhood, mothers bearing many children being seen as heroes. The economy was extremely weak and poverty widespread however, leaving poor families unable to provide for their families and illegal abortion as the only way out. The use of primitive methods thus increased sharply, leading to many cases of sterility, infection and even death. Many children were also abandoned, and ended up in orphanages where conditions could be truly horrid. The children would be tied down to their beds or by their own clothing. Often the children would be left naked, sitting in their own urine because the staff had failed to put clothes on them. The mostly untrained staff was encouraged to discipline the children by hitting them, and through this the older children learnt to the beat the younger. The Black Madonna 23: Fear City
00:53:38
The 70’s was a dark time for New York. The economic recession had devastated the city’s industrial sector and in just five years it had lost over 500,000 manufacturing jobs. Unemployment soared and a million households ended up having to rely on welfare. With the social turmoil of the 60’s having led the middle class to flee the city for the suburbs, New York was now running out of funds and was forced to make substantial budget cuts. Among the areas cut the hardest was law enforcement. These two factors combined led to rapes and burglaries tripling, car thefts and felony assaults doubling and murders going up from 700 a year to almost 1700. This was Fear City. The Black Madonna 22: GRU
00:53:10
Glavnoye Razvedyvatel'noye Upravleniye, GRU, the Main Intelligence Directorate is Russia's most powerful intelligence agency. It deploys large numbers of agents across the world and also commands the Spetsnaz GRU, Russia's elite forces. According to a GRU defector, the organization have completely infiltrated the United States; to the extent that there are arms caches and miniaturized tactical nukes, suitcase bombs lying in wait for the inevitable confrontation. GRU assassination teams would use these weapons to take out the US leadership during the first days of the war. Campaign: "The Black Madonna", KULT: Divinity Lost Music by: Atrium Carceri

The Black Madonna 21: Coup d'état
00:48:23
On August 19th 1991, hardliners within the Communist party, backed by the KGB, attempted to seize control of the Soviet government. They were opposed to the reforms and decentralization of power, from Moscow to the republics, that had been launched by Gorbachev. Armored units and paratroops descended upon Moscow, TV and radio stations were occupied and the KGB arrested a number of key deputies. However, the conspirators made one fatal mistake by failing to arrest Russian President Boris Yeltsin. Over the coming days he ended up leading civil resistance against the coup from outside the parliament building. KGB spetsnaz forces from Alpha and Vympel were set to storm the parliament building on August 20th as part of “Operation Grom”, but by that point Yeltsin had already secured the support of both the public and the military. The attack was called off and the coup failed, further accelerating the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Campaign: "The Black Madonna", KULT: Divinity Lost Music by: Atrium Carceri

The Black Madonna 20: Theotokos
00:53:52
Our Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary. This is the title of the Mother of God used especially in Eastern Christianity. Theotokos is also used as a term to describe icons of the Mother with Child, in the western tradition called a Madonna. Some of the Madonna sculptures and paintings depict the mother and child with dark skin, depicting the true features of the deity Jesus and his mother Mary. Such a depiction is known as a “Black Madonna”. Campaign: "The Black Madonna", KULT: Divinity Lost Music by: Atrium Carceri

The Black Madonna 18: Wolf 359
00:55:58
Wolf 359 is a red dwarf, 7.8 light-years from earth. Its proper motion was measured in 1917 by the German astronomer Max Wolf, the 359th that he measured, which is why it still carries his name. It is the fourth-closest stellar system to our Sun which is why it has inspired many science fiction writers to include it in their stories. The Black Madonna 17: Incinerator
00:51:59
Incineration converts waste into ash, flue gas and heat. The process can be used to generate electricity, and in some countries the burning of waste and biomass amounts for more than 90% of total generated electricity. A turbine connected to the burners in a crematorium can generate 150 kWh per corpse, enough to power 1500 televisions for one hour. The Black Madonna 16: Fravashi
00:55:38
According to Zoroastrianism each person has a guardian angel, a Fravashi. They are a manifestation of God’s energy, and responsible for sending our souls, Urvan, out in to the material world to fight in the cosmic battle between good and evil. On the fourth day after death, the soul returns to the guardian angel. There its experiences are evaluated, lessons learned and the knowledge used to assist the next generation in the eternal struggle. The Black Madonna 14: Monument
00:53:59
History is full of countries and empires that are created, rise, fall and then disappear. All that remains of them are the monuments they left behind. They stand as reminders of the hopes and dreams of the people who built them. But they can also be reminders of oppression, injustice and suffering. Der Oderturm in Frankfurt-an-der-Oder at the Polish border is a monument of sorts; built in part by the Free German Youth work brigades, it was to embody the ideals of socialism and the ambitions and engineering prowess of the people of East Germany...Today it houses a shopping mall...
