Episode Date
Tai Beauchamp: You Are Beyond Ready
37:51

I see your superwoman cape flapping in the wind, but let me ask you this: Are you tired of “doing the most” and still NOT seeing the results YOU truly desire? If your answer is YESSS, then it’s time to take off the cape and come get your entire life with media personality and lifestyle expert Tai Beauchamp.

In this episode, Tai reveals exactly how you can get intentional with the way you show up so you can move with greater confidence and position yourself to make a more authentic, meaningful impact in the world.

This episode is brought to you by our complimentary Purpose Chasers community. Want to share your aha moments with a group of like-minded purpose chasers from all over the world? Visit iamapurposechaser.com and join NOW.

About Tai Beauchamp

As an award-winning media personality and leading expert in all things fashion, beauty and style, Tai has built an incredible career as an internationally-recognized public speaker, style authority, executive producer and director.

This New Jersey native and Spelman College alum made history as Seventeen magazine’s youngest and first African American beauty and fitness director as well as founding fashion and beauty editor at O, the Oprah Magazine. Her vision has also contributed to the pages of top publications such as Harper’s Bazaar, Good Housekeeping, Vibe and so many others.

Yet, even with such a high-profile career and a long list of accolades and awards, Tai says her work in entertainment does not define her. She then dropped this confidence-infused teachable moment that had me ready to throw my laptop:

“I have never been defined by what I do. I am defined by who I am and how I show up. I have never desired to be famous — it’s not what moves me. My purpose is to impact the lives of women.” – Tai Beauchamp

And that’s exactly the type of clarity and unapologetic presence you get when you know you are “beyond ready” as Tai says. But getting to that place is not easy, especially in the world we live in today.

Waiting for Validation

You see, we’re in a space where many people require validation to move forward. Now, I know “require” is a strong word, but when you look at the human attachment to likes, comments and hearts on social media, you’ll begin to recognize a lot of people are waiting for others to validate their success, purpose and even existence.

I asked Tai about her take on validation seekers and to share some insight on the powerful words she posted on her Instagram page (be sure to follow her @taibeau).

It reads as:

“When you decide you don’t need anyone’s approval to speak, to live or to be, you’ll land on a path uniquely your own that blows your own mind and surpasses anyone’s expectation.” – Tai Beauchamp

Tai believes waiting for people to validate you trips up the way you move. That’s why she urges all of us to draw from within because we’re already equipped with everything we need to live the life we want. In other words, Tai says we’re all “beyond ready,” we simply need to know how to move with intention and confidence.

This entire segment of the episode stirred my soul because how she breaks it all down is so real and transparent. Needing validation is one of those “unspeakable truths” that most people aren’t willing to admit because it requires them to first own that they’re waiting for others to validate what they want and how they live out their lives.

Finding Your Voice

From there, we rolled into a discussion on “finding your voice” and leveraging your platform in a way that is intentional and meaningful. Now, you’re simply going to have to listen to the episode to get all of the gems she dropped during our conversation, but in the meantime let me leave you with this quotable moment:

“When you find your voice, you recognize the things that don’t support your voice are not worthy of your time and your space.” – Tai Beauchamp

Beyond Ready

In this episode, Tai delivers a more in-depth explanation on how two simple words are creating a downright revolution among men and women who are ready for more AND are willing and more than happy to commit to doing the work to get it. So what exactly is “Beyond Ready”?

It’s an e-learning platform Tai created based on the premise that we’re all equipped with the internal power and drive to live our best lives. However, many lack the confidence and intentionality to fully commit to the work required to achieve the objectives they set for themselves.

Inside “Beyond Ready,” Tai teaches individuals how to not just be “ready” but to step into “beyond ready” by making the commitment, at all seasons of their lives, to intentionally unleash the confidence, drive and purpose that lies within. Visit https://taibeyondready.com to find out more about the “Beyond Ready” e-learning platform and use code WEALTH to enroll for 15% off the pay in full option. (Limited time offer.)

Redefining Wealth Rapid Wisdom Questions

And with that, let’s dig into Tai’s responses to our Redefining Wealth Rapid Wisdom Questions.

Define Success:

“I don’t believe in success. I believe in continual progress. I don’t want to arrive anywhere. For me, success, as we have been trained to understand it, means, ‘to arrive somewhere’ and I want to stay on a continuum where I’m always progressing, evolving, developing, learning, loving more, giving more and receiving more.”

Define Wealth in 3 Words or Less:

“Spirituality, love and joy.”

Christine Hassler: Give Yourself Permission to Feel
54:49

This week’s episode is brought to you by Holistic Healing with Amy. To learn more about Tower Gardens, Juice Plus and ACT = Accelerated Change Templete for pinpointing mindset blocks and clearing them using kinesiology visit Holistic Healing with Amy and tell them Redefining Wealth sent you.

Christine Hassler is a best-selling author, keynote speaker, master coach, podcast and TV host committed to helping people live their highest potential. I was on her podcast Over It and On with It, and I have been binging on it ever since I started listening to it. Christine supports individuals in answering the important questions of “Who Am I, What do I want, and How do I get it?” She combines life coaching with spiritual psychology to help people find the answers to live their best lives.

Episode Summary:

In honor of our first pillar of physical and mental health, this is Mental Health Awareness Month. Christine is the perfect guest for this month. She is all about feeling your feelings, so you can get on with your best life. We talk about having compassion for yourself and allowing yourself to feel without judgement. We also talk about how we can’t change other people, but we can support them with love while we change ourselves. This conversation is packed with wit, wisdom, and real life examples of living your purpose.

CLIFF NOTES

  • A lot of times we think we're feeling our feelings but we actually are still suppressing them. When we do feel them, we analyze and judge them.
  • Be in a place of compassion with yourself. It’s okay to let it out.
  • When we have an emotional situation that is bigger than the situation calls for that means we are in a trigger. It's probably a big feeling that has been suppressed and not dealt with.
  • The only way to soothe our feelings is to feel them. The rational mind cannot soothe our feelings.
  • Learn to calm and soothe yourself and release the feeling that you are suppressing.
  • Notice your feelings. Allow yourself to feel it, and then ask what do I need. Slow down and notice your feelings.
  • We can support other people's healing by loving them and supporting them unconditionally and doing our own healing.

Elijah Frazier: You Can Turn This Around
59:55

Elijah Frazier is an inspiration. At one point in his life things weren’t going his way even though he changed the people around him and geographical areas. He finally came to the realization that he was the problem and knew it was time to do a 180 in his life. Now he is a successful entrepreneur, filmmaker, speaker, and author who thrives by living the purpose he was meant to live. We are so fortunate to have him here today to share his wisdom and brutal honesty.

Episode Summary:

Before we get going on today’s show, I'm going to let you know that I'll be doing an Instagram video on each of our pillars. If you are new to the show or you would like a refresher on the pillars, please be sure to follow me on Instagram. . . This is such a fun episode. Elijah drops knowledge bombs and wisdom at every turn of this show. He gives wonderful examples and has a unique perspective on how we should live our purpose and serve each other.

CLIFF NOTES

  • If the same thing keeps happening in your life, you are the one who needs to be turned around.
  • The very moment Elijah took accountability for his actions, his life and his relationships turned around.
  • It’s important to take account of what is coming in to your life.
  • We need to be careful about what we allow into our spirit and our soul the same way we're careful about what we allow into our bodies.
  • If you want to be as successful as you can be, discover the purpose that was created for you.
  • We were chosen and born to let other people know how valuable they are.
  • Even if you are afraid, you can still do it. Chase after your success, not other people’s.

Dr. Nicole is the host of The C-Suite Confidant Podcast and the author of From Introspection to Action: The High-Level Professional's 28 Day Journey to Improving Mental Health.

Episode Summary:

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and I am so glad to have Dr. Nicole B. Washington here to talk about how we all need to be conscious of our mental health and not be afraid to seek help when we need it. We unpack how and why high functioning individuals put so much stress on themselves and what to do about it, as well as, why you must give yourself permission to be broken and not put arbitrary rules on yourself. Dr. Nicole shares tips for focusing on the positive, celebrating achievements and what true self care routines look like.

CLIFF NOTES

  • After experiencing panic issues, Dr. Nicole realized that physicians and high functioning individuals didn’t always have places to go to for help.
  • Don’t hold yourself to unreasonably high standards and give yourself permission to be broken.
  • It’s important to pause and celebrate yourself and your achievements.
  • Be intentional about your focus and focus on the positive not the negative. Practicing gratitude can help with this.
  • Create a brag folder to remind yourself of the great things you have done and who you really are.
  • Don’t impose “should of” rules on yourself and make yourself feel guilty.
  • Self care is important. Do something special for yourself once a week and something more special monthly. Get sleep and outsource.

He believes becoming rich is a lifestyle choice.

Episode Summary:

He is incredibly brilliant and yet super down-to-earth. He and I are in a mastermind together where he shares all kinds of tips about finances, business, and money. In this episode, Dominique shares his story and how budgeting doesn’t have to be deprivation, but how important it is to have a plan to work towards your goal. We also talk about credit repair and more amazing financial information.

Wealth Can't Wait
52:41

David Osborn is a real estate investor, serial entrepreneur, and the author of a book that was life changing for me. Wealth Can’t Wait is a must read for anyone who wants to upscale their life and wealth. David has founded over 50 companies, employs exceptional people, and has distributed millions of dollars to his partners. He is also an educator who teaches having an abundant life through goal-setting. He is also extremely down to earth, and it’s an honor and pleasure to have him on the show.

Episode Summary:

April is financial literacy month, and I couldn’t think of anyone better to have on the show than David Osborn. His book, Wealth Can’t Wait is the current Pod Club book, and this is my third time reading it. The seven pillars in his book are very similar to the Redefining Wealth six pillars. We talk about planning, taking action, surrounding yourself with the right people, and being accountable. Wealthy people take purposeful action, and David really drives that home in this episode.

CLIFF NOTES

  • Wealth is a CHOICE. You can decide to earn more, spend less, save more, and learn to invest that savings for growth.
  • Don't you deserve financial freedom? Wouldn't it be amazing if you never had to answer to another person for the rest of your life?
  • Develop disciplines that will serve you for a lifetime and make that choice to be wealthy.
  • Learn to take risks and practice thoughtful measured risks. Avoiding risk makes it hard to get ahead.
  • Don't fall into the know-it-all trap. Build knowledge over time and the status will come.
  • Prioritize your tasks by A B and C. Then only do the As. List and prioritize everything.
  • Become purposeful with your actions and focus on your air game, not your ground game or just doing everything that needs to be done.
  • You have to be the CEO of the corporation of YOU. You do the most important stuff and hire people to do the other stuff.

Quotes from the show:

“Money is not rocket science.” - David Osborn

“You're not short on knowledge or capability; you're short on making a choice.” - David Osborn

“There's a lot of ways to get there, but you need to get discipline.” - David Osborn

“Have a disciplined, purposeful approach to building wealth.” - David Osborn

"Develop discipline that will serve you for a lifetime." - David Osborn

“Redefine what winning is for you.” - David Osborn

“You learn more from the failing than you do from the succeeding.” - David Osborn

"Care a lot less about more and care more about less." - David Osborn

“List everything you need to do 1-7 and then focus on the top 3 each day.” - David Osborn

"Am I taking the right actions right now that will serve me for the long term?" - David Osborn

"Wealthy people are so purposeful." - David Osborn

“Take a killer vacation every year whether you think you can afford to or not.” - David Osborn

What You Need is Confidence
26:19

I love having a partnership with Capital One. They recently did a study that found that 49% of respondents reported being someone confident or not very confident at all in the car buying process. They also found that 94% of respondents didn't believe that the process was completely transparent. Dave Kang is Managing VP of Consumer Auto Finance at Capital One and he’s here to give us tips and help us become more confident in the car buying process.

Disclaimer:

Thank you to Capital One for sponsoring this episode! This is a paid endorsement. All opinions are my own and were not directed by Capital One. To learn more about the Capital One Auto Navigator tool, visit CapitalOne.com/cars.

Episode Summary:

In honor of Financial Literacy Month, we’re launching a new series called Confident Money.  I want to focus on helping you “make money moves” with more confidence than you ever have. I know it can be intimidating to handle money from purchasing a home to investing in stocks and everything in between, but this month, my goal is to help you build the confidence necessary to make wise financial decisions in every area. In this episode, I share my ideas on building money confidence, so you can build the wealth you deserve. Then I have a conversation with Dave Kang about the car buying process.

CLIFF NOTES

  • You need to feel confident about money in order to build wealth.
  • Clarity is what breeds confidence. Not being clear about the steps that lead up to the process breeds financial confusion.
  • Ask why you are making this financial decision now and how it can impact the entire picture.
  • When your decisions lack confidence, you’ve probably made a purchase from desperation. We want to make choices rooted in faith - NOT fear.
  • Confidence increases when you have trusted resources. Always ask for help and get support in the areas that aren’t your strongest.

Here’s the big takeaway this week:

In order to make the best financial decisions you can and be someone committed to making WISE money moves, you have to think about how to boost your confidence BEFORE you get into the transaction.

We have to stop making emotional decisions and make the ones that make sense for the bigger picture.

Quotes from the show:

“To make great strides and build wealth, it really requires building confidence.” - Patrice Washington

“Ask why you are making this financial decision now in order to get clarity.” - Patrice Washington

“Look at how your financial decision is going to impact everything else in your life.” - Patrice Washington

“What is it going to take to make it to the end result without settling?” - Patrice Washington

“We want to make choices rooted in faith not fear.” - Patrice Washington

“Knowledge is one thing, but wisdom is knowing how to apply the knowledge that you've obtained.” - Patrice Washington

“Clarity will breed confidence.” - Patrice Washington

“We want to be confident proactive productive citizens and proactive and confident consumers.” - Patrice Washington

“A vision of Auto Navigator is to bring more transparency to the car shopping and car buying experience.” - Dave Kang

Ask yourself . . . “What decisions are being for me versus what decisions am I making for myself.” - Dave Kang

REWIND: Faith Can Not Be Your Financial Crutch
38:10

As we kickoff financial literacy month, I'm doing a REWIND episode before we start the Confident Money Series, next week. I didn't record this week, because my heart is telling me that I can grieve and mourn even for someone I don't know personally. My husband and I were just at the store where Nipsey Hussle was shot. As someone who grew up in that area, it's just heartbreaking.

I will be sharing specific tips for the upcoming Confident Money Series. In this episode, I set the tone by going back to why faith cannot be your financial crutch. It will be a great foundation as we get into the Confident Money Series.

CLIFF NOTES

  • Many of us have been raised to believe that money is bad or being poor is more noble. This can create conflicting beliefs.
  • We can’t just be irresponsible with our financial lives, and then just pray for things to get better.
  • There is a personal responsibility that comes with personal finance. Some things you just need to do.
  • We can’t pray our way out of financial problems and predicaments. We should pray before we get into those predicaments.
  • You have to know your own numbers. We are all responsible for what goes in and what goes out.
  • You need to accept help when needed. Sometimes you need the help of someone else to get to what's next for you.
  • Nurture what you do know. Words are powerful. You should wake up knowing that you are ready to manage your money and manage it well.

Quotes from the show:

“Whether people have great jobs or sources of income or not, they still tend to use faith as a financial crutch.” - Patrice Washington

“Your faith should not be your excuse for not being responsible.” - Patrice Washington

“There are some things that you need to plan and commit to not just pray about.” - Patrice Washington

“You can't be irresponsible with your finances, and then just pray for an intervention.” - Patrice Washington

“We don't have time to be irresponsible with our finances. Faith without works is dead.” - Patrice Washington

“There is a PERSONAL responsibility that comes with personal finance.” - Patrice Washington

“People often use their faith as a long-term answer instead of stepping up, taking responsibility, and doing the work.” - Patrice Washington

“Faith is not your crutch for not doing well with your finances.” - Patrice Washington

“You have to know your own numbers.” - Patrice Washington

“We are all responsible for what goes in and what goes out.” - Patrice Washington

“It's our responsibility to give God something to bless.” - Patrice Washington

“Financial success on any level comes from you taking action and accepting help where needed.” - Patrice Washington

“You should wake up everyday with the feeling that you are ready, willing, and able to manage your money responsibly.” - Patrice Washington

“You are ready to manage your money and manage it well.” - Patrice Washington

“All of the things you supposedly don't know about money are just a story that you have told yourself.” - Patrice Washington

“Start to change the way you speak, and you will be surprised how you start to understand things with grace and ease.” - Patrice Washington

“What you nurture grows.” - Patrice Washington

“What we have with money is a relationship.” - Patrice Washington

Doubt Doesn't Mean Don't Do It
26:45

Even powerful and successful women doubt themselves at times. Doubt has also become a common thread with women in my community. Sometimes, we think that people who are successful never have doubts or fears. The truth is everyone has doubts and fears, it’s just that the successful people choose to push through those doubts and move forward. In this episode, I will talk about doubt and give you three actionable ways to push through that doubt.

I also have a big announcement about the Purpose Chaser Community. You can sign up for free to connect with like minded people. Next month is financial literacy month where I’ll be doing a whole series about money management and tips.

CLIFF NOTES

  • People and women in general often think that people doing amazing things don’t have the same doubt and fears that they have.
  • Don’t let doubt creep in and distract you from making decisions and moving forward with your goals and progressing towards success.
  • It’s up to us to decide that we are going to do whatever it takes to push through obstacles and our own fears.
  • Doubt is normal defeat is a choice. It’s normal to have doubt, but letting it stop you is a choice.
  • Let the benefit of the doubt apply to you. We give this benefit to others. It’s time to give it to ourselves.
  • Write out the worst case scenario and realize that’s not the worst thing that could happen.

Quotes from the show:

“Give yourself the benefit of the doubt and remove this need for perfection and decide if the worst-case is really the worst thing that could happen.” - Patrice Washington

“Sometimes we have the perception that women or people in general who are doing amazing things don't have the same fears and doubts that we do.” - Patrice Washington

“We get stuck by allowing doubt to take root and completely distract us.” - Patrice Washington

“Your doubt does not mean that you shouldn't do it. Doubt does not mean don't do anything.” - Patrice Washington

“Decide that you are going to do whatever it takes to push through even pushing through your own fear.” - Patrice Washington

“Doubt is normal, but allowing it to stop you in your tracks is a choice.” - Patrice Washington

“God doesn't require perfection from us and neither do most humans.” - Patrice Washington

“Don't measure your reality against a filtered fantasy like social media.” - Patrice Washington

“Why do we give so many other people the benefit of the doubt, but cut it off when it comes to us.” - Patrice Washington

“People want to support you, but you have to allow the benefit of the doubt for yourself in order for them to do that.” - Patrice Washington

“Progress beats perfection on any day of the week.” - Patrice Washington

“Doubt doesn't mean don't do it. Who is served by not doing it?” - Patrice Washington

“The best thing you can do for doubt is to challenge it and go get a win.” - Patrice Washington

Rachel Luna: Built to Survive
56:36

Rachel Luna is a good friend of mine and an entrepreneur, master confidence coach, speaker, author, podcaster, and a woman who tells it like it is. She helps women and ultra secure men find clarity and confidence to have the life and business of their dreams. She has overcome many obstacles in her life to find her purpose in helping people increase their sales and revenue through increased confidence and living with purpose.

Episode Summary:

In this powerful episode, Rachel shares some of her story and how and why she became a coach. She talks about how external issues can be solved by fixing the internal issues. We talk about active journaling, listening to god, having boundaries, not being a victim, and the realities of motherhood. We change the narrative around shame, because no one can shame you. Rachel also gives some great examples of having and enforcing positive boundaries.

CLIFF NOTES

  • Rachel helps people become more confident in anything. Externally, people may think they need help with something, but internally it may be a confidence issue.
  • As she overcame her problems and found a coach to help her, Rachel’s natural talent for helping others became evident.
  • A coach provides guidance and asks powerful questions. A consultant or mentor gives advice.
  • Actively wait on the lord to help you by seeking answers and praying and journaling. Take action and listen to God.
  • Sometimes it’s literally doing the work to get past the tests that we are given. Doing work you love does not have to be laborious.
  • Don’t see yourself as a victim. Take back your power and don’t squander your opportunity.

Sarita Maybin: Ask for What You Want
46:36

About our Guest

Sarita Maybin is an international speaker and communications expert. She has worked with clients like Hewlett Packard, Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles County, Department of Navy and the Las Vegas Convention Center and has spoken all over the world. In 2012 she was voted Top 5 Communication Speaker and has had the privilege of speaking on the TEDx stage. She’s also the author of If You Can’t Say Something Nice, What DO You Say? and an expert in confronting tough communication situations in a positive and fun way.

Episode Summary:

Today, we continue the Powerful Women Series in honor of Women's History Month. Our focus today is on the people pillar and how we communicate. We tackle the complex topic of speaking up when it  might not be comfortable and talk about the importance of finding a middle ground to say what needs to be said before things blow up. We discuss how to ask for what we want using the right language. This includes giving the other party a vote by using collaborative phrases and the power of positive communication phrases. This episode is full of practical tactics for both personal and professional communication.

CLIFF NOTES

  • It’s important to speak up and say what needs to be said.
  • Use phrases like, “I would appreciate” to make requests not demands.
  • We need to just ask for what we want. Use a phrase like, “would you be willing to?” Use collaborative phrases at home.
  • When giving feedback focus on the positive rather than the negative and use positive communication phrases like, “help me understand.”
  • 3 Clues that you should pick up the phone instead of email or text. Sensitive subject, conflict, or when there’s a back and forth.
  • Instead of a spellcheck do a “please and thank you check.”
  • The 3Ps by Dr. Martin Sullivan: Don't take things PERSONALLY. It's not PERMANENT. Don't let it ruin the big PICTURE.
  • We can use “if”, "as soon as" and "when" to set boundaries.

Greatness Requires You to Expect Resistance
33:29

Episode Summary:

I realized as I was finishing up the Results Not Resolutions series, that I didn't mention the best part to all of this. When you start shifting your focus to get to your next level of greatness, you can start to experience things that make you feel like all hell is breaking loose. It doesn't matter how pumped you are about setting goals and getting results, you still have to be prepared for the fact that life is still going to happen.

Resistance will still surface in spite of your best efforts. We will all find ourselves coming to a fork in the road about whether we keep going or whether we give up. Butting up against resistance is why many of us fall away from our goals year after year. Today, I'm going to talk about resistance and how to work through it.

CLIFF NOTES

  • Resistance is a force that acts to stop the progress of something or make it slower.
  • All materials naturally contain resistance to the flow of electric current. We are all experiencing some level of resistance at any given moment.
  • Expect resistance, because no one is immune to it. Even people who look like they are doing great could be going through difficult times.
  • When we make plans and goals, we expect the vision we have for them.
  • Set yourself up to have a contingency plan to navigate through the seasons of resistance.
  • We have the power to reframe this resistance to be for us not against us.
  • Resistance is here to reveal opportunities for growth.

Quotes from the show:

"When you start shifting your focus to get to your next level of greatness, you can start to experience things that make you feel like all hell is breaking loose.” - Patrice Washington

"Set yourself up to become a person that understands that resistance is inevitable and have a contingency plan in place for how you navigate and maneuver through seasons of resistance.” - Patrice Washington

"I'm reaching for my next level of greatness, so I know that there's going to be some level of resistance on the journey.” - Patrice Washington

"For every measure of resistance you face, release a volt that can help you push through.” - Patrice Washington

"You have to decide that being stuck and letting the resistance overwhelm you is not an option.” - Patrice Washington

"Resistance is here to reveal opportunities for growth.” - Patrice Washington

"Resistance is here in order to help us create a plan or a path to overcome something similar next time.” - Patrice Washington

"Expect resistance. No one is immune to resistance.” - Patrice Washington

"We have the power to reframe this resistance to be for us not against us.” - Patrice Washington

“You get to reframe your resistance and make it about how you release your voltage how you release your power.” - Patrice Washington

“You do not embrace resilience without having been through resistance. The definition of resilience is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties.” - Patrice Washington

  • Everyone is encouraged to connect with their higher selves.

REWIND: Dr. Brad Klontz: The Truth About Savings
40:44

About our Guest:

Dr. Brad Klontz is a financial psychologist who focuses on raising awareness around issues relating to financial health and financial psychology. He is the founder of the Financial Psychology Institute, an Associate Professor at Creighton University, and Managing Principal of Your Mental Wealth Advisors. He was awarded the Innovative Practice Presidential Citation, is the author of numerous books and publications, and is a personal mentor of mine.

Episode Summary:

Today's episode is a rewind episode with Dr. Brad Klontz. I chose this episode because it has very special significance for me. Dr. Brad Klontz is a financial psychologist, and he was one of the first guests on my show. This year we have talked a lot about getting results not just setting resolutions. One of the results I wanted for 2018 was to become a certified Behavioral Finance Specialist. Thanks to the influence of Dr. Brad Klontz, I will have my certification in financial psychology within the next month which has sparked another result I have my sights on for 2019; pursuing an MBA with a concentration in behavioral finance and financial psychology.

CLIFF NOTES

  • Financial psychology is the study of our upbringing, experiences, and our beliefs and behaviors around money.
  • The goal is improving financial health by improving financial psychology.
  • Building wealth is first and foremost about your mindset.
  • Our beliefs around money are real clear indicators of our success or failure.
  • People who accept responsibility and believe they have the power to change their financial beliefs will have success.
  • You have to take responsibility if there are gaps in your wealth mindset and seek out mentors that can help you out.
  • The Banking Reimagined Savings Study proved that associating nostalgic items with savings improved rates by 67%

Quotes from the show:

Glen Henry: 5 Steps to Releasing Your Genius
56:00

About our Guest:

Glen Henry is a musician turned YouTube sensation. His Beleaf in Fatherhood channel has surpassed 100K subscribers. He also has a website and podcast of the same name. He is the speaker behind the impactful TED Talk, What I've Learned About Parenting as a Stay-at-home Dad, as well as, the author of It’s Bedtime Now. This father of three, soon to be four, wants to create a positive impact on both fathers and mothers. His popularity is growing, and he can be seen everywhere including on a new Pamper’s commercial with singer, John Legend.

Episode Summary:

I am so excited to have Glen on the show today. We talk about how Glen used his honest approach to fatherhood to transition from music to building an audience and becoming a YouTube sensation. He talks about the 5 steps to releasing genius. If you are feeling stuck or blame your lack of success on someone else, pay special attention to whether you could be missing a key step in releasing your genius and creativity.

CLIFF NOTES

  • Glen knew the Internet would be the right platform to reach his audience. He made a 15-year plan and achieved those goals in two years.
  • The first stage that you're genius stands on is an idea. When we have an idea it's already complete in our minds.
  • The second stage is releasing your idea to your ability. This is where your brain and your ability form a relationship of trust.
  • The third stage is where you have started an idea, and you have shared it with a small audience of one like a trusted friend to get feedback.
  • The fourth stage is your audience. This is when people actually get use out of what you have created.
  • The fifth stage is virality. This is when people who aren't your target audience get attached to your work. This is where we receive the most criticism and pick up the biggest amount of growth.

Quotes from the show:

"I'm not responsible for my wife’s lack of vision, I'm responsible for manifesting something she can believe in." - Glen Henry

“Your brain and your ability have to form a relationship together where your brain trusts your ability, and your ability trusts that it's not too overwhelming.” - Glen Henry

“Sometimes we trust our friends more than we trust our ability. Depending on what happens in this relationship can make or break our genius.” - Glen Henry

“You have to manifest your dreams, so that people can see them, feel them, and touch them.” - Glen Henry

“When we release our art to our audience it is no longer ours. They take it and make it whatever they want it to be.” - Glen Henry

“Virality is what our audience does with what we create.” - Glen Henry

“How many of us do not have the results we desire because we skip stages?” - Patrice Washington

"Sometimes we get so caught up in perfectionism that we prevent other people from the blessing. Sometimes you just have to release the genius.” - Patrice Washington

"At some point you have to get out of the ability stage. What I've learned is to stop making things harder than they have to be.” - Patrice Washington

Crystal Escobar: No More Shoulds
51:28

About our Guest:

Crystal Escobar is a mother, author, entrepreneur, blogger, and podcaster and a wannabe balanced mom. When Crystal first became a mom she wondered if she could be there for her kids and be there for herself. She started exploring her quest for balance in 2010 and now she helps other moms find purpose and balance. She now juggles her blog, podcast, business, and four kids, sharing her journey along the way.

Episode Summary:

This is Part 3 of our Results NOT Resolutions series. Today, I am joined by Crystal Escobar an author and entrepreneur who says, "we cannot live our life based on shoulds." Today's focus is on the space pillar which is all about setting up your life to support you. We talk about achieving balance and when to let things go. We talk about how it is okay to ask for help and how creating a list with 30-minute intervals can help get things done and about why it’s critical to let things go and not worry about the expectations of others.

CLIFF NOTES

  • Don't live your life based on “shoulds” and trying to manage the expectations of others.
  • Harmony can be an upgrade to balance. It's okay to have your own goals and aspirations and try to achieve balance in your life.
  • Sometimes you have to let expectations go and accept that having kids means that sometimes your house will be messy and unorganized.
  • Be organized and set up your workspace, so that you can focus on what you're doing and not be distracted by clutter around you.
  • Multitasking and trying to do more than one project at a time will actually cost you time in the long run.
  • To be productive, create a 30-minute list. List things you need to get done and use a timer to work on each item.
  • It’s okay to set time aside for yourself and your work and get help or outsource some of the household stuff.

Quotes from the show:

“Include your kids in what you're working on so they understand what's possible.” - Crystal Escobar

“Balance to me is more about a state of mind. It's not about all the things I can get done in one day.” - Crystal Escobar

“When you're trying to be creative you have to clear the clutter.” - Crystal Escobar

“We're not as effective as we think we are when we're doing two or more things at once.” - Crystal Escobar

Use a timer when you're organizing and then tell yourself "It's time to move on." - Crystal Escobar

“Become okay with B- work in certain areas.” - Patrice Washington

“When your space is in order it teaches others how to treat you.” - Patrice Washington

“Maybe you can't have a balanced day, but you can plan for a balanced week.” - Crystal Escobar

“Get rid of the "shoulds" in your life. Don't beat yourself up about what you think you should be doing.” - Crystal Escobar

“We have to let go of the expectations we believe others may have of us, because we're only frustrating ourselves.” - Patrice Washington

Nehemiah Davis: Create Your Circle of Greatness
53:56

Nehemiah Davis is a true example of what one can achieve if they try. At the age of 31, he is an award-winning author, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He was raised by his mother and grandmother, and even though the odds may have been against him, he started his first business at age 21 and started giving back almost immediately. He now runs three businesses and the Nehemiah Davis Foundation which helps disadvantaged youth, feeds the homeless in Philadelphia, and helps people all around the world.

Episode Summary:

It's time for part two of the Results NOT Resolutions series. Nehemiah Davis is here to talk about how every one of us deserves our own circle of greatness. We talk about how Nehemiah and I met. Nehemiah shares what the circle of greatness is. He also talks about seeking counsel from mentors who have done what you want to do and expanding your mind. He shares his story and how changing your mindset can change your life. We also talk about entrepreneurship, giving back, finding mentors, and having a network.

CLIFF NOTES

  • An Instagram profile and a chance meeting on the street led to Nehemiah being able to propose on the Steve Harvey show thanks to Patrice. That is the power of relationships and not looking for anything in return.
  • We are blessed to be a blessing by creating connections for people and not expecting anything in return.
  • The circle of greatness is a community that connects people that can help support one another. It's great when one person creates connections, but it's even greater when it's an entire community creating connections.
  • Keeping resources in the circle and having people smarter and sharper than you in your circle is the key to success.
  • It's important to seek wise advice and counsel from people who have done it. If you want to become a millionaire, learn from a millionaire.
  • Now is the best time to get into entrepreneurship and create your wealth.
  • Nehemiah teaches kids how to be entrepreneurs and create their own jobs. It’s so important to learn the mindset.

Quotes from the show:

Who Are You Becoming
34:40

Welcome to the final episode of 2018. It's hard to believe an entire year has gone by already. I am so excited and so thankful to be at the tail end of another year. A year that was challenging but was filled with growth for me as a wife, mother, and business owner.

I titled this episode well before I went and saw Michelle Obama on her book tour in Los Angeles. As we end the year and start thinking about next year, it's the perfect time to talk about who we are becoming. As I've grown over the years, I realize that it takes more than just saying what I want. I have to focus on who I'm becoming in the process, and that’s what we talk about today.

CLIFF NOTES

  • Patrice is so grateful for the past year and all of her growth experiences.
  • The Greatness Guide connects so well with the pillars of Redefining Wealth. What we do each day defines who we are becoming.
  • Can you accept that knowing what you want is not enough? Be willing to become someone who is a willing and consistent goal-setter.
  • Become someone who is willing to ask for help and accept support. Ask for help or invest in some type of support from someone who has already done it.
  • Are you willing to avoid the temptation to allow precious days to become unimportant? Continually take action don't let days go by and be wasted.
  • Truly ask yourself who you need to become for your goals to come to fruition.

Quotes from the show:

“In order for you to get everything that you are dreaming of for 2019, you have to ask yourself am I willing to become someone who can ask for help and accept support.” - Patrice Washington

“I am just grateful. I am in a grateful place from being able to look back and realize that I've grown so much.” - Patrice Washington

“We don't get what we want, we get what we believe. Belief is actually heightened when we have clarity around a clear-cut path to get there.” - Patrice Washington

“Most of us have to look at what the big picture is and then break it down into very small milestones. Then we have to be consistent about delivering it and truly turning it into a goal.” - Patrice Washington

“Are you willing to take the next step and become someone who is really coachable?” - Patrice Washington

REWIND: Results NOT Resolutions
35:32

We are going back in time with another Redefining Wealth REWIND. You are a different person now than you were last year. If you are like me, and you are working on your goals for 2019 then this episode will be relevant for you. Today's episode is Results NOT Resolutions and it's a must listen to if you are thinking about what you want to create in the next 12 months. I give you three things to consider to stop breaking the same resolutions or goals year after year.

CLIFF NOTES

  • Instead of focusing on fluffy resolutions, try focusing on whatever area in your life that you really want to achieve results in.
  • In order to get to the next level,it's not okay to make the same New Year's resolution and then break it year after year.
  • The difference between making a resolution and actually achieving that resolution is commitment.
  • Commitment takes more than interest. Interest is talking, researching, and praying about something, but not really making anything happen.
  • Commitment is not based on how you feel. Committed people know they have to stick it out and go the extra mile when they don't feel like it.
  • Commitment means completion. If we could stay the course and get to the other side, our breakthrough would be at the end of completion.

Quotes from the show:

Today's redefining wealth rewind features the single most played episode of all time with my mentor and the man who says "wealth is a choice" best-selling author Dr. Dennis Kimbro. If you want to take control of your finances and your life, you couldn't have found a better episode.

Dr. Kimbro’s book changed my life, and he helped me during one of my lowest moments. He is truly inspiring, and this episode is packed with wisdom. Dr. Dennis Kimbro is a writing partner and master trainer for the Napoleon Hill Foundation. He is the best-selling author of five books, and a recipient of the Dale Carnegie Personal Achievement award.

Episode Summary:

Dr. Kimbro shares inspirational wisdom about mindset, personal responsibility, showing up, and choosing to be more and have more. We talk about mindset, self-esteem, and the divine. We talk about how we need to be challenged to be successful and how it takes courage to do things differently. This episode is really inspirational and a must listen for everyone who wants to up their game.

CLIFF NOTES

  • Total craft mastery is being the best at what you do and impacting lives while never having to worry about income or employment.
  • Wealth is about mindset, and we need to focus in on our divine perfection.
  • It's critical to have a passionate committed mind, because it can never be defeated in spite of doubters.

  • Dr. Kimbro’s books aren't about cash. They are about courage. It takes courage to get new friends and forsake today for tomorrow and do what you need to do.

REWIND: The Power of No Comparison
29:51

This is a Redefining Wealth Rewind to one of my favorite solo episodes, The Power of No Comparison. We are in the throes of recording some amazing interviews for the Results Not Resolutions Series coming up at the top of the year. In 2019, we are getting results. But now, it’s time to focus on what matter to us and stop comparing ourselves to other people who may have completely different stories.

CLIFF NOTES

  • It’s not fair to yourself to compare your life to someone else when you don’t know their fitness level or where they are at in their lives.
  • The only thing that matters is becoming better than YOU were before.
  • When you are focused on your goals and your vision, you are more committed.
  • Your goals can’t be based on other people, they need to be about what feels good to you and works for you.
  • You are more complete when you are not in comparison. Be in alignment with what feels good to you.

Quotes from the show:

“The truth is there is no comparison, because we should only be competing with who we were yesterday.” - Patrice Washington

“When we start comparing ourselves to other people, we start self-sabotaging.” - Patrice Washington

“The story I was telling myself kept me from being my best possible self.” - Patrice Washington

“I am better than I was a week ago. I'm better than I was several months ago. I am better than I've been in 20 years. That's the only thing that matters to me. That's the power of no comparison.” - Patrice Washington

"You have to be committed to your own process. When you're in comparison with other people, you are going to skip some steps that you're not ready for.” - Patrice Washington

REWIND: Sheri Riley: The Value of Being Present
01:03:20

Sheri Riley is an empowerment speaker, life strategist, and award-winning author of Exponential Living: Stop Spending 100% of Your Time on 10% of Who You Are. She helps individuals make choices that lead to more fulfilling lives. She has worked with some of the world’s biggest celebrities and corporations. She has spoken at Turner Sports, Prudential, and The Coca-Cola Company. She has appeared on the Steve Harvey show, NPR, Huffington Post and more. She has worked with huge celebrities like Usher, TLC, and more. She is also a good friend of mine.

Episode Summary:

We are prepping for the upcoming year, so the team and I thought it would be a great time to have a rewind of some of our very best podcasts. Award-winning author Sheri Riley is here to remind us about the value of being present. Everytime I listen to this interview, it continues to be a blessing for me. If you've heard this podcast before, listen again because you are in a totally different place today than you were when you first listened to it.

CLIFF NOTES

  • Sheri worked so hard on Exponential Living and deserves every award and acknowledgement that she is getting. She just considers it a humbling honor.
  • It was Sheri's mission to get out of living 10% of her life and feeling empty to living 100% of her life and feeling fulfilled.
  • What people we love want the most is our time and our presence. We often get too caught up in making money or meeting our goals.
  • When we just bounce from one thing to another our creativity is stifled. Focusing on one thing at a time increases your creativity.
  • With relationships focus in on what you can do for the other person and build a mutually respectful and beneficial relationship. Relationships and friendships may not be equal but they always need to be reciprocal.

Quotes from the show:

“Sometimes I would just call Patrice to hear her voice, because I needed the stability of knowing that someone was there who was authentic and true.” - Sheri Riley

“How could you possibly feel so empty when your life is so full?” - Sheri Riley

“When some really close friends made some decisions that were devastating, I knew I had to write my book and get it out to the world.” - Sheri Riley

“When we have these perceptions of everyone is going through this or this is just the way it is, we allow bad behavior for much longer than we should” - Patrice Washington

“Everyone has their threshold of what they can handle and how they interpret things, but I would say speak up.. If you are feeling uncomfortable in a situation or an environment and you want things a change to happen, its not gonna happen unless you say something about it” - Dr. Mildred Peyton

“If you find the right industry or the right environment and someone makes it a living hell and now you’re not certain about whether you’re working in your purpose that makes a difference and that leads to financial mismanagement and unfulfillment” - Patrice Washington

Are You Actually Coachable?
45:17

The Redefining Wealth Podcast community believes that wealth is about more than money and material possessions; it’s actually about well-being. Each week, award-winning personal finance author, international speaker, media personality and your BFF in your head, Patrice Washington, shares solo insights or enlightening guest interviews that influence the masses to live their life’s purpose, find fulfillment and earn more without chasing money.

In today’s episode, I explore what it means to be coach-able. So often people talk about wanting support, but they aren’t truly open to it.

The reason you don’t accept coaching is fear. You have a story in your head that says, “This is as far as people like me go.” When you don’t do what your coach asks you to do, you’re not disappointing your coach- you’re disappointing yourself.

To get the wealth you desire, you need to be able to try new things and be uncomfortable. You have to be unapologetic about trusting the process.

I like to say, “I know what I know, and it’s brought me as far as I’ve come. If I want to go further, I need help.”

I don’t care where you start, but I do want you to consider getting the support that you need. Find a pillar where you need help, and reach out to a coach who can work with you to get the results you’re looking for.

People Want To Support You
36:51

The Redefining Wealth Podcast community believes that wealth is about more than money and material possessions; it’s actually about well-being. Each week, award-winning personal finance author, international speaker, media personality and your BFF in your head, Patrice Washington, shares solo insights or enlightening guest interviews that influence the masses to live their life’s purpose, find fulfillment and earn more without chasing money.

In today’s episode, we explore what it means to ask for support.

What if our irrational fears are making us irresponsible stewards of the gifts we’ve been blessed with?

We can’t take the contributions we’re making to our communities for granted.

We have to be bold and ask for what we need. Even if the answer is “no,” at least you asked.

This year, I want to be an example of what it looks like to push past the “what ifs” and stop being selective with my surrender. As I’ve learned in the last few months, people want to help, but we’re the ones making up the stories about what that means about us. It’s not them.

Special Thanks to those listeners who said “YES!” to being Founding Purpose Chasers on my Patreon Page or those who made a one-time donation so I could bless someone else.

I’m Not Above Backing Out
33:05

So many times we say “yes” knowing that it’s a “no.”

Why do we agree to do things that we don’t want to do?

Most of the time, we’re worried about pleasing others instead of honoring ourselves.

In this episode, I talk about my latest team retreat and how I recommitted to my 2018 goal of simplicity. In order for me to finish the year strong, I have to let go of the stuff that makes me busy but not necessarily profitable.

I realized I can’t be selective with what I’m willing to simplify. I was willing to let go of material possessions, but not willing to let go of opportunities in my career.

If you’ve made commitments that you don’t have the time, resources or head space to complete, you can back out. You can do it with grace and dignity, but first and foremost, you have to do it for yourself.

Download this episode and learn three easy steps to say “NO!” to things that are no longer serving you. Let’s grow together.

CLIFF NOTES

  • Don’t be busy holding on to opportunities that are out of season.
  • You can’t be selective with what you’re willing to simplify
  • Check in with what matters every day.
  • Stop compromising your time, money, and peace to be liked.
  • Detach yourself from the outcome when you say “no.”
  • The wrong reasons to say “yes” are for likes, fear of abandonment, or to avoid conflict.
  • When we self-sabotage, we bring down the people who actually want to support us.
  • The people you may be bending over backwards to show up for, may not even care as much as you think.
  • If you’ve made commitments, you can still back out with grace.

Billionaire P.A.: Your Mind is Wealthy
01:02:46

I’m not a great employee, but I’m a phenomenal entrepreneur.

After college, I didn’t look for a job, and I didn’t go to graduate school. Instead, I started a business. People told me I needed to have a backup plan. I said, “My backup plan is to focus on my first plan!”

You can spend your time working on other people’s dreams, or you can work to realize your own.

My husband once gave me a shirt that read “I don’t look for jobs, I create them.” I connected with that shirt. This shirt was from the mind of Billionaire P.A.

On this episode of Redefining Wealth, I talk with Billionaire P.A. about manifesting dreams.

Billionaire has a truly remarkable story: he was homeless and living in his car when he transformed his hopeless mindset into what he calls a “wealthy mind.” Now, he has a TEDx Talk with over 400,000 views, a Wealthy Minds clothing line, and a book he boldly sells for $63.36. His goal is to inspire billions of people to speak their dreams into existence.

Are you setting yourself up for success in all areas? Are you on your way to manifesting the life you were created to have?

Download this episode today to learn how Billionaire P.A. went from the brink of despair to inspiring billions of people to live their dreams.

Lori Harder: You Need a Tribe
01:00:11

There’s one thing you’ve heard me say again and again: you can’t do it alone. It’s true, but creating the tribe you actually need to build is more complicated than you might realize.

First of all, make sure people earn the right to be in your tribe. No one gets a free pass and just because you like someone, doesn’t necessarily mean they belong in your tribe.

They need to be adding value to you and your purpose in some form or fashion.

That doesn’t mean you are using people. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. A tribe doesn’t all work for one, they work together to ensure that everyone benefits. If people feel like they aren’t getting as much as they are giving, they won’t want to be part of the tribe.

And to make sure they are feeling as much fulfillment, here’s the key ingredient: communication. Make sure that you are clear about everything with everyone in your tribe. Don’t assume they know what you are thinking, what you want or what you like because they don’t. Likewise, if you don’t know what they are thinking, ask them.

Recently, I read an amazing book on the subject: A Tribe Called Bliss by Lori Harder.

Lori and I spent some time together discussing so much about this topic, and we were even on each other’s podcast. So, as soon as you finish my show, go listen to hers because what we discuss there is just as powerful and about something completely different.

If you don’t know Lori, she is a leading expert in the field of fitness, transformational work, mindfulness, and self-love. She has grown two multi-million dollar businesses as a successful entrepreneur and network marketing professional.

She is also an author, cover model, and three-time fitness world champion, who offers a carefully curated set of practical tools to promote sustainable health, spiritual well-being, and financial freedom.

Through her books, unique coaching methods, and programs, she has helped countless people connect with their soul, transform their bodies, empower their minds, gain financial independence, and fall in love with themselves and their lives.

Throughout her career, Lori has regularly appeared on the covers of and published articles for Oxygen Magazine, STRONG Fitness Magazine, Health & Fitness Magazine and Prosper Magazine. She has also been featured on NBC, Fox, and TLC networks.

Vernon Ross: Answer the Call
01:02:28

There’s one thing you can’t be afraid to do in this world: ask for help.

Many times that’s what holds us back. We dream about achieving greater things, but we have no idea how to get there.

The secret is to keep moving and ask questions along the way. Just by moving you’ll get further than most people. The average person will just stay in one spot.

Progress can only be made through trial and error, so get out there and work at it. As you go, you’ll find people along the way who can give you advice, and help you grow in the direction you want to go.

This podcast is the perfect example of this. Most people would be too intimidated by the choices in recording equipment, or trying to find out what an RSS feed is. If I acted like a “normal” person I’d give up before I even started.

Instead, I made this show happen in three weeks. I learned everything I could, reached out to everyone who seemed like they’d help. I even went to a podcast convention called Podcast Movement to connect with engineers, who are now helping me make this show.

Since that two week push I’ve released 50 episodes, built a large audience (which I’m grateful for) and now I’m scheduled to speak at that same convention later this week.

None of it would have happened if I just sat there dreaming or feeling overwhelmed.

And to be honest, I couldn’t have made this show happen if it wasn’t for a big help from Vernon Ross. I know I’ve mentioned him on this show so many times before, but I felt I needed to bring him on so you all can learn from him as well.

On this episode of Redefining Wealth, Vernon was kind enough to share his insights on building an audience and how you can really build a platform that best fits you.

Download this episode now, and hear some amazing insights from the man who made this show possible.

The Blessing of Downsizing
44:06

One of the hardest things you can do in life is let go. No matter what it is, people or things, it can be a challenge to get it out of your life.

If you want to grow, however, you need to cut out what isn’t working. That’s why we prune trees, so that they can grow bigger and healthier than ever before.

Cutting away the dead branches low on a tree that doesn’t get sunlight anymore, allows the tree to use its energy to maximize its efforts.

That’s exactly what you need to do. Constantly re-evaluate what you have in your life. Our dreams and visions shift all the time, and think about if the things you accumulated are really helping your new vision or not.

And it’s not just people or items that may be holding you back from growth. It might even be your mindset.

Think about how you look at things, maybe it was even a mindset your parents taught you about the world. Is it really serving you, or should you start looking at things differently?

On this episode of Redefining Wealth I wanted to take a moment and share with you the transition I have been going through in my life.

I decided it was time to cut back in life so that I, and my family, can grow even larger than ever before.

We’ve been detoxing our lives, and I even had my husband come on to share his experiences throughout the process.

So download this episode today and learn what we all need to evaluate and trim out of our lives.

Brittney Castro: When Life Happens
53:51

One of the most overlooked things from people is a savings. People think they’ll always be able to work, but in reality you never know what can happen.

Even if you eat the perfect diet, exercise everyday, and really take care of your body things can (and will) still go wrong.

Let’s face it, if something happens like you get hit by a car wouldn’t you rather have the option to rest and recover than not?

And a savings isn’t just there for a rainy day. You may need it in order to get in on that dream investment opportunity, or to be able to (finally) start working for yourself instead of someone else.

The point is, life happens. You never know what’s happening tomorrow: but you have to be ready for whatever God is going to throw at you next.

To go more into this I brought on a very special guest, who went through one of the most traumatic life changing events you can image: Brittney Castro.

Brittney is the founder and CEO of Financially Wise Women, a Los Angeles-based financial planning firm whose mission is to teach women and couples the art of managing their money the fun and simple way.

As a Certified Financial Planner™, Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor, Accredited Asset Management Specialist, entrepreneur and speaker, Brittney works with busy professional women and couples who are ready to make their finances work for them and use their money to live the lives of their dreams.

After years of working in the male-dominated world of financial planning, Brittney realized she wanted to work with clients the same way she talks about money with her girlfriends–in a smart, personal, feminine way that’s compassionate, fun and nonjudgmental.

Brittney has become a well-known financial expert and a go-to resource for national media outlets.

She’s been featured on CNN, CNBC, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, CBS, KTLA, Fox 11 News, Glamour, Elle, Marie Claire, Darling, Entrepreneur, Woman’s World, Financial Planning, Investment News, Registered Rep magazine and many more.

She’s also a coveted speaker and host, and she loves spreading her wisdom about finance, entrepreneurship and smart investing to the masses.

So download this episode to learn about how you can get your finances in order, and the journey she had to take in order to get there.

Andromeda Raheem: The Anatomy of a Winner
49:07

I don’t know about you, but in my life I’ve had people I loved and believed were on my side betray me - especially women.

It’s made me want to avoid women all together and keep to myself. But the truth is, we can’t do that.

We can’t let a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch because in the long run, it’s only going to hurt us even more.

No matter how great you are, if you exist on an island by yourself, you can only get so far. Being great requires connection with others.

You need to find the support of those in your community, and more importantly you need to offer the same support you want to receive from others.

Be the light everyone else wants to be around.

It’s too easy to discredit, nit pick, point out flaws and cut other people down. It takes wisdom and maturity to not allow yourself to stoop to being that person no matter what you’ve experienced.

Instead choose to offer grace and forgiveness to people who may never acknowledge their wrongdoing. It’ll only free you and help you become better, as well as, force others to respect you even more.

To dive deeper into this, I wanted to bring you the author of, She Wins, Andromeda Raheem.

After experiencing years of negative interactions with women, Andromeda made the choice to turn her pain into power and do her part to empower and unite women. While working a government accounting job, Andromeda started a blog to share her stories of betrayal, loss of friendships, and lack of support from other women. At the time, it was simply a passion project and she had no idea that she was putting herself on a path to become the founder of a global network that promotes support and sisterhood among women.

She took this message to social media and began encouraging women to collaborate instead of compete, make themselves accountable for their own happiness and success, and be confident in themselves.

"Lucky" Is An Insult
37:17

“Thinking people are luckier than you will make you doubt your own journey.”

I was up at 2 am to record this episode because I felt a strong tug that this needed to be addressed.

I’ve noticed a mindset from some in my audience I wanted to speak to today in the hopes that we can have an honest conversation and create a powerful shift. I’m not here to scold anyone, or attack anyone. I just want to help you overcome a challenge you may not even realize you are having.

A lot of people fall into a victim mentality because they use a word they think is harmless: luck.

When you look at someone’s accomplishments, you might consider them lucky. They were lucky they got that TV deal, they were lucky to have those friends, lucky to get the job.

What you see is the final polished result. You don’t see all of the hard work, or even years of effort that comes into their success.

The definition of luck is: Success or failure, apparently brought by chance rather than through one’s own actions.

So when you say someone is lucky, you are saying they didn’t do anything to get where they are. That’s a bit insulting, don’t you think? How would you feel if someone said you don’t really deserve whatever measure of success or happiness you currently enjoy?

Not only that, but it put you in the mindset that you have to be lucky to get anywhere. That your dreams will just fall out of the sky, and if they don’t it wasn’t meant to be.

It encourages being lazy. It encourages you to not take action.

The truth is, you need to do the exact opposite. You can’t count on simply being lucky, because no one is lucky.

If you try to count on luck to be a success, you’re just going to waste away the God-given gifts you’re supposed to be exploring and unpacking as apart of your unique journey.

This is such a passionate topic for me, so I decided to devote an entire episode to it and I hope you enjoy!

Download this episode now, and learn how you stop waiting for luck and start creating your own success.

“Stop judging other people’s purchases by your paycheck.”

The Cliff Notes:

  • Make sure your space is peaceful and energizes you.
  • Your space will set the tone and mood of your day.
  • A bad mindset can keep you trapped.
  • Have a supportive mindset and you’ll create relationships that matter.
  • Don’t make other people feel bad about their pricing, it gives you something to aspire to.
  • Avoid the word “lucky”.
  • There’s often a lot more work put into something than you see.
  • Know the value of what you’ve done, and who you have become.
  • Be committed to your vision, not to how you get there.
  • Comparing yourself to others will make you bitter and stagnant.
  • The success of a marriage is not luck.
  • Stay in a state of preparation to obtain what you really want.
  • What does someone else’s luck have to do with you?
  • Focus on your belief in yourself as opposed to other people.
  • Not everyone needs to love you for you to be successful.
  • Get out of the “woe is me” spirit.

“Nothing good can come from a root of bitterness.”

Kelly Cardenas: Living By the "98/2 Rule"
53:29

“You can choose what type of day you will have, and I choose to have an outstanding one every day.” - Kelly Cardenas

How many people have you known in the world that were really smart, had so many degrees and certificates, but were broke and unsuccessful?

That’s because knowledge isn’t everything.

Sure, an education can be helpful, but without a strong purpose there’s no point. People who are just dumb enough to believe in the impossible, will always go further than those who over analyze.

If you take the time to trust in God, and really focus on the “why” in your life then the “how” will be shown to you.

You’ve heard me talk about the importance of surrendering before, but there’s more to it than just saying “I surrender”.

You need to put your hands up, give God permission to search your heart and then listen for how He directs your path.

How do we know if you truly have surrendered?

We see it in our attitude and our ways of being in good times and bad.

To go more into the power of attitude and surrendering, I brought on a very special guest: Kelly Cardenas.

In fact, his message was so powerful I actually bumped up the release of this episode because I know you needed to hear it.

Kelly Cardenas is taking it upon himself and his team to give the hair industry a complete makeover.

From his work in his salons to his ever expanding educational work both in the US and overseas, he is infusing the industry with excitement and professionalism. His recent expeditions to Chicago, Nashville, San Diego, and Germany have the top industry professionals buzzing about the mark Kelly Cardenas is making on industry.

Kelly’s rock-star status has definitely culminated over the past few years since opening his flagship salon in Las Vegas. With his sights set on opening another 100+ salons in the next 10 years, his legions of fans including John Paul Dejoria, owner of Paul Mitchell, are incredibly excited.

Kelly sees the industry as his blank canvas and the industry professionals are excited for the masterpiece he’ll create.

Download this episode of Redefining Wealth to learn all about how your attitude is more important than your aptitude.

“We have too many people who put on their smart pants and pass up the wisdom that God could give them.”  - Kelly Cardenas

The Cliff Notes:

  • Success is 98% attitude 2% aptitude.
  • Many people have knowledge, but not wisdom.
  • You need to know what to do with the knowledge you obtain.
  • If you ever wanted something and didn’t get it, that means you didn’t really want it.
  • You will buy what you need, but you will kill for what you want.
  • Become a want in every person’s life that you enter.
  • You need a big enough why that you stay committed to.
  • Your financial issues are a result of not knowing your true purpose.
  • Purpose is what sets your priorities.
  • Find your vibe manipulator to help you get through your day.
  • All you need is to bring value and have impact.
  • You can’t control the how, so don’t focus on that.
  • Take the back seat when Jesus takes the wheel of life.
  • If you’ve been incarcerated, you have the DNA to be successful at anything.
  • Money is important, but it’s not everything.

“When you focus on the why, the what will inevitably be yours.”  - Kelly Cardenas

Tim Storey: Resilience is Your Birthright
44:02
“Just because you’re in a drama, that doesn’t mean you have to be dramatic.” - Tim Storey I wanted to mix things up this week. I feel like I tend to cater to the women in business (I wonder why :) ). Given that this weekend is Father’s Day, I’m going to dive into some topics that will help the men listening. And women, be sure to share this with any man you care about in your life. In today’s society, men are forgetting how to “man up” and take responsibility in the midst of life’s turmoil. The world is changing constantly, and it’s easy to feel like our world has been flipped upside down, but we don’t get to sit in that. Instead of giving up, and falling into a victim mentality, it’s time to find the power. Understand things aren’t happening to you, they are happening for you. It’s time for you to make a comeback and that doesn’t mean a go back. It’s hard, but we always need to move forward, learn from all of our experiences and realize we are a stronger person because of them. To dive further into this, I was finally able to bring you a very special guest that’s nearly impossible to nail down: Tim Storey. Tim is always on the move, in fact he’s been to over 75 countries and often meets privately and counsels high-profile leaders in various industries. He is an acclaimed author, speaker, life coach and my personal friend. Tim Storey is well known for inspiring and motivating people of all walks of life, from entertainment to executives, celebrities and athletes, to adults and children in the most deprived neighborhoods in the country. Download this episode of Redefining Wealth to learn how you can make your comeback. “A comeback is not a goback.” - Tim Storey The Cliff Notes: Men need to man up and take responsibility for their lives even in the pain of the drama. Problems are part of the process. You can work out your problems with dignity. Sometimes religion can make you live in the guilt and shame of your past. You don’t have to be a religious person to be in relationship. You don’t have to look far for how you should be. A pioneer makes a way where there was no way before. Everyone is currently going through recovery and discovery. The word “behold” means look up and pay attention. Things don’t happen to you, they happen for you. When you’re feeling good, you go plural. When you aren’t feeling good, you go singular. Money, when used the right way, gives you leverage. “I don’t chase dreams, I cooperate with what heaven has already said.” - Tim Storey

Faith Cannot Be Your Financial Crutch
35:29
“We don’t have the time to be irresponsible with our finances.” There’s one thing that truly breaks my heart - and that’s when people use their faith as a crutch. I’m going to get real with you today, and it may turn you off. That’s ok. Maybe you’re not ready to hear this, but I know a lot of people listening are. You need to stop relying solely on your beliefs to get you out of your financial problems as if you have no power to do better. If you dig yourself into a hole, that’s your responsibility - not God’s. The Lord helps those who help themselves. I’m not saying God won’t help you at all, but I am saying you can’t expect a pile of money to fall from the sky and suddenly all of your financial burdens will be over. Right now, I’m reminded of a joke I heard before: There was a flood, and a woman got caught up in it. As the waters pushed her down a river bank, she was able to grab onto a tree and use all her might to keep from being dragged along. She prayed to the Lord, “Jesus, please save me. I don’t want to die here today.” She was overwhelmed with a spiritual feeling and knew that Jesus would come save her. After a few moments a helicopter came and flew up to her. She told them to go away and said “I don’t need your help. Jesus is going to save me!” The helicopter left, and eventually the woman lost her strength. The water took her away and she drowned. When she got up to heaven she sees Jesus, and asked him, “Jesus, why didn’t you save me?” Jesus looked at her and said, “I sent you a helicopter. What more did you want?” The point is that if God does send you a miracle, it may be in the form of fellow man. That means you should always seek out guidance and help from others. Don’t wait until you’re drowning in your finances to seek help. Never be afraid to find a financial advisor. And if you are starting to drown, grab that help right now. In the end, it’s only you who can change your financial situation. God gave you the free will to be in charge of your own numbers. Do you want to make him proud? On this episode of the Redefining Wealth Podcast, I wanted to dive into the importance of self accountability and your personal finances. So download this episode today to learn how you can stop using your faith as a crutch, and be a better steward of your finances. “You are the CEO of your life.” 3 Ways You Can Take Control of Your Finances Know Your Numbers Accept Help When Needed Nurture What You Do Know The Cliff Notes: People are not always ready to hear certain information. Faith can be interpreted to glorify being broke. There is a personal responsibility that comes with personal finance. Anything used as a temporary, and oftentimes inappropriate support or substitute is a crutch. Plenty of able bodied people use faith as a financial crutch. It’s an insult to spend money you don’t have, then pray for your bills to be paid. You have to know what goes in and what comes out. Open your Excel sheet, don’t call on the Lord! Praying doesn’t mean set it and forget it. Miracles can come from man. It’s our responsibility to give God something to bless. Don’t be afraid to sit down with professionals and bare it all. It’s never too soon to get a financial advisor. Who do you need on your team right now? All of the things that you don’t know about money are just stories you’ve told yourself. Change the way you speak, and it will change your life. Do NOT let your faith be a crutch. Give God something to bless. “Wake up every day with the feeling that you are ready, willing, and able to manage your money.”

Charreah Jackson: Go Hard AND Go Home
01:03:54
“Being willing to give up something good for something great requires trust that something better is always coming” There’s a common misconception in our society, especially with women, that you have to choose between your work or a relationship. There are women who report being passed up for a job that required travel because it was assumed that that wouldn’t be appropriate for her marriage. There are other women who despite outperforming their counterparts are axed during mandatory lay-offs because big engagement rings signaled they would be okay. It’s crazy to think of what we go through as women. This whole ring thing can get complicated. A big ring can earn you respect in the workplace or it can also be your downfall. My guest today is on a mission to prove that it is possible to overcome these stereotypes. You can do so by treating yourself the way you want to be treated. Let people know you are a person of power, by respecting yourself. When you respect your time, others will learn to respect it, as well. And this lesson goes both ways, in both your personal and business life. Take the time to treat your personal life like a business. Schedule things you love, and block off time for it like you would any business meeting. Just like you wouldn’t be late for a lunch appointment with a big client, don’t be late for your dinner appointment with your spouse. This will not only help you achieve harmony in your work and business life, but it’ll make you more productive and present in both. If you know you can’t work late, you’re going to work harder during the day to make sure you meet all of your deadlines. At the same time, by scheduling time for those around you and treating it like you would a business meeting you’re going to appreciate the time and be more present. To dive more into this, I interviewed author of the new book Boss Bride (and one of my good girlfriends) Charreah K. Jackson. Charreach is an international speaker, coach and ESSENCE Senior Editor, empowering the brand's global audience of 13 million. Her informed point-of-view has been featured on CNN, The CW, ABC News, Fortune and TIME. This is an episode any woman in business NEEDS to listen to, so download it now. “Life doesn’t have to be ‘either/or.’ Always give yourself the option of ‘AND’.” The Cliff Notes: Anyone at any age can be a boss bride. Make vows for you to be the woman that you want to be. You are judged based on your relationship status at work. Life doesn’t have to full of “ORs.” Always give yourself the option of an ‘AND.’ After you go hard, you have to go home. It’s making informed choices that give you life by looking inside first, then out. Look for signs you aren’t taking care of yourself with the SOSelfcare signs. Your personal life won’t take care of itself - you need to plan it out just as much as your business life. I was tired of giving my leftovers to the things I love most. Every woman you see who is really powerful, makes sure that her “NO!” and “WHY” are strong. Our expansion often comes with an exit. Love is not a passive thing. You have to treat yourself the way you want others to treat you. Our dreams live outside of our comfort zone. “One of the best gifts you can give yourself is to honor how sacred and special your time is.”

Vision Doesn't Need Validation
34:15
“If God gave you the vision, he’ll give you the provision.” Have you ever had an idea or a dream that you thought was so great, you couldn’t keep it off your mind? Then you went to share it with someone you really care about, and they didn’t see what you see? Did it crush you? Make you doubt yourself? Stop your vision right in its tracks? I know you’ve been there. We all have. But you can’t let other people hold you back from your vision. It’s YOUR vision, not theirs. You can’t expect others to support everything you do. And you can’t expect to live your life by pleasing others. If I lived my life the way my father saw it, I would be a lawyer right now. Maybe successfully, but I highly doubt fulfilled. I respect those who do that kind of work, but that’s not me. Live life for you, because it’s your life. If you feel like you’re being pulled toward something. If it’s all you can think about, and you feel excited to do it when you wake up in the morning - that’s all you need. The only confirmation and validation you need comes from within you. I understand you can’t do it alone, and you will need coaches or mentors to help. So surround yourself with people who do support your vision, but accept that not everyone will. It’s ok. They have their own vision, and it probably doesn’t align with yours. On this episode of the Redefining Wealth Podcast, I wanted to dive further into why you don’t need validation from others. There are plenty of great people who didn’t get validation. In fact, the greatest people often were shot down early on in their careers. And what made them great is that they didn’t stop. They pushed forward with their vision, because they knew the world needed it despite the naysayers. So download this episode to learn how you can let go of that need for validation, and chase your purpose with the support of the only person that matters - you. “People know when they are not capable of going with you to the next level.” - Marshawn Evans The Cliff Notes: Validation is for parking, not dreams. Don’t let other people add fire to your fears. The responsibility to carry a vision relies on you and you alone. It’s hard to explain an empire state of mind to someone with an employee state of mind. You can’t expect everyone to see and cheer on your vision. If you feel called to do it, your calling is your confirmation. Some people let their fears get in the way of your dreams. You can’t expect other people to have the capacity to hold your vision for you. Most people can barely hold on to their own vision. If everyone around you had the same vision, there would be too much competition. When someone disagrees with your vision, thank them for sharing and move on to new resources. All ideas need some work, so be flexible. Give yourself permission to let go of any validation you think you needed. “You can not spend your life trying to fit into someone else’s expectations.”

Debt Will Determine Your Destiny
29:11
“Debt will force you to make choices rooted in fear as opposed to faith.” As many of you know, I have been traveling around the country speaking. My favorite part is using the opportunity to meet and speak to every single person who attends a session with me. I love hearing what you take away, and what is really important to you. That’s why I decided to make this episode, continuing last week’s discussion on accountability. Chances are you need to take more accountability about the debt in your life. Many people have myths about debt that are hindering them from reaching their greatest goals. In the end, these myths are preventing them walking into their destiny. I want you to understand the role of debt in your life. Really understand how it’s holding you back from fulfilling your true purpose. When your decisions about where you work, who you work for, where you live, what you eat, and everything else is decided by how much money you have to put towards your debt each month - you’re not really free. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. Your debt is limiting your ability to choose. You won’t be able to live the life you want as long as you have debt. And let me make it clear, all debt is bad. Even debt you are leveraging to own things like a house is still bad because thinking that they’re good will never motivate you to get out of debt. Download this episode today to hear why you need to handle your debt, and what you can do about it to be able to live your life in choice. 3 Myths About Debt: Debt is not stopping me from anything. I have good debt. Everyone has debt. “Your Attitude about anything will determine your success with it.” The Cliff Notes: When you become your best self, money is a byproduct. There are many myths about debt. Don’t let debt stop you from living the life you truly desire. When you are burdened by debt it takes away your freedom to choose. Anything you accept as ok, you are going to allow to persist. A lot of people fill their void by getting more stuff, adding to their debt. If every decision you make is about paying off debt, you’re chasing money. There is no such thing as good debt. It should always be your goal to be debt free so you can have more choices. Credit scores only matter if you plan on having debt. Just because everyone has debt, doesn’t mean you need to as well. “Rationalizing is how we ration out lies.”

Abundance Requires Accountability
41:34
“Accountability is the secret sauce for abundance.” How many times do you find yourself starting a project, but never able to cross the finish line? Maybe you get 80% of the way there. You can see the finish line, but then you stop. You let other things get in the way. You’re not alone. Everyone has that problem. The way you fix that is by having more accountability in your life. Sometimes you need someone by your side to share your progress with. Someone to give you that push across the finish line. I’m going to give you a big tip: make sure it’s someone outside of your house. Your partner is going to be one of the first people to show you sympathy when you don’t feel like doing something. As much as I love my husband, I know if I rely on him to hold my accountable I won’t get things done. It’s not his fault though, I know just the right face to make to get his pity. That’s why I have a friend I check in with regularly, Brandi Harvey. Brandi’s not afraid to push me harder, and she’s not as willing to let me off the hook when I don’t meet my deadlines. And I return the favor. But not every situation calls for accountability from an outside source. Your actions, your decision, all come from personal accountability. It’s such an important topic, I felt I needed to five into a full episode on it. On this episode of Redefining Wealth, I discuss how accountability is the secret sauce to success. Without it no one would get anything done, and it’s what really serves as a moral guideline in this world where people are obsessed with bad behaviors. Download this episode today and learn how you can use accountability to get the success and wealth you want in every area of your life and truly feel fulfilled “Clarity is what you need to build your prosperity.” The Cliff Notes: Financial mismanagement comes from a lack of fulfillment. Wealth is about well being. There will always be something that holds you back from crossing that finish line. Sometimes it’s because of fear. Other times it’s because you don’t have accountability. No one creates long lasting success in a bubble. We were created for companionship with others. Create a support system that won’t allow you to get in your own way. Find an accountability partner that is out of your house. We have a false upbringing of “Don’t tell other people your business.” You do need to be accountable to yourself. Our society indulges in the bad behaviors of others. How you are feeling today should not change your character. There is nothing worse than breaking a promise to yourself. Be accountable to the vision, not the process to get there. Are you operating with a spirit of accountability to your creator? We all have a calling to make an impact to the masses. Are you just studying the principals of your sacred text, or are you practicing them? Give up the possibility of a better past. Don’t compromise your integrity to be liked. You’re childhood is over, don’t subscribe to what you learned then. “You always represent more than just yourself.”

Ask Patrice Anything: Earn More Money Edition
46:25
“There’s only so much coupon cutting and budgeting you can do.” The last time I took questions from you guys I had such an overwhelming response! I felt it was hard to choose questions to answer, and I saw a common theme that I wasn’t able to address last time: earning more money. Cutting coupons and pinching pennies might help a little, but it will never make you a millionaire. In the amount of time you spend clipping out vouchers just to save $50 you probably could have used your passion and purpose to make $500. Since I know what it’s like to go from rags to riches multiple times in my life, I wanted to give you some advice from what I’ve learned along the way. I hand picked some of the best questions about earning more money for this episode, ranging from finding a financial advisor, to starting a podcast, to becoming a speaker and so much more. Download this episode to learn how you stop budgeting and start earning. “Don’t be moved by coaches that can only flash material possessions.” Questions You Asked: When should I start working with a financial advisor? (4:40) What is your opinion on virtual mentors? (8:25) How do I get started doing my own podcast? (13:20) How can I sell my self published book? (20:05) What routes can I take to become a speaker? (26:05) How did you scale your business so you could serve more fully? (29:55) How do you incorporate self compassion? (35:40) The Cliff Notes: Shift your mindset to focus on how you can earn more. There’s no need to wait on a financial advisor. It’s important to talk to someone who knows how to help you get to your goals. You want to find a financial advisor you can have a personal relationship with. Be willing to work with people virtually. It’s not realistic to have a mentor you can talk to every day. Don’t be distracted by a “coach's” fame and material possessions. For podcasting, quality is the most important thing. You should, absolutely, have a website even if it’s just a hobby right now. If you are self publishing, sometimes you just need a new marketing strategy. Reach out to people and send out samples to people - it’s an investment. You can’t think of yourself as just an author, you have to think of yourself as a marketer. Don’t hold back from getting media coaching. You need to create opportunities to speak. There’s a difference between your clients and your audience. Know what you need to say no to so you are clear on what to say yes to. Self compassion is knowing when your grace has run out. Recognize your weaknesses and when things aren’t going how you planned. Be willing to be flexible and know the world will now end. Be truthful with people - you don’t need to make excuses. “You don’t need gimmicks and tricks to earn more money.”

Malene Rix: You Get What You Negotiate
52:05
“Make it a habit to show the world what you do and what you dream about.” - Malene Rix Most people have a really hard time negotiating. In fact, a lot of people give up before they even try. I can understand why, especially if you’re a woman. Our society, sadly, still doesn’t respect and accept a woman negotiating on her own behalf. There is hope, though! You can make negotiations much easier on yourself and the other party in a few simple ways. The first way is to show your value every day. That doesn’t mean brag, show off, or be annoying. It just means strategically share and plant the seeds of your results and show your worth on an ongoing basis. These little success stories will make it easier to negotiate later on, and the person you are negotiating with will be more likely to say “Yes!” with way less convincing. Secondly, you need to believe in it. Your whole heart needs to be in the fact that you are valuable enough to get what you want and that there is real value in the results you bring. The energy you create from the excitement about what you are bringing to the table will make a huge impact. The last thing I’ll discuss here (and if you want a lot more insight, you better download this episode) is that you can’t be afraid of the “No.” Nos will come. It’s apart of the game of negotiation. Accept it, be ready for it, but set your heart in the yes. To dive deeper into the power of negotiating, and the best ways to get what you want out of the, I have a very special guest: Malene Rix Melane has worked as a negotiation advisor and trainer for the past 15 years. She’s based in Copenhagen, Denmark and she’s worked with a huge number of both private and public sector clients ranging from ministries, municipalities, the Nordic Council of Ministers and the EU Commission to global corporations and management associations and unions. Her focus has been on advising and teaching many different types of professionals, both employees and management. Download this episode today, because you never know when you’ll have to negotiate next. “Negotiation is a tool to create change in a better way.” - Malene Rix The Cliff Notes: The more you have a personal connection to what you are negotiating for, the more vulnerable you are. If there wasn’t a no, there wouldn’t be a negotiation. There would just be an agreement. It’s ok to be worried about negotiating. Promote your worth on a daily basis. There’s a price tag associated with your shine. Make sure you show your results to help plant the seeds. You have to make it as easy as possible for someone to give you what you want. Both parties need to get something positive out of a negotiation. In negotiation, we all have a need to get something. You need to rediscover who you are. Start small if you’re not sure about the direction of your reinvention. You can’t think your way to a better life, you need to go test things. When you start to change, people will react. Being valuable in your own eyes will make others see the value in you. You have to be prepared to fail. “We need to believe it before we can ask anyone else to believe it.” - Malene Rix

Mikki Taylor: You Can Keep Your Makeover
46:33
“Character is your billboard.” - Miki Taylor This week we’re continuing the You Deserve More series in acknowledgment of Women’s Equal Pay Day. Each year, I lead thousands of women through 20 principles that help them use their God-given gifts to earn more money. (Learn more at iwillearnmore.com) Today, I see so many people doing things just for the attention. Women dress the part they think others want to see. They do the make over to try and make everyone else happy. How many times have you seen Instagram posts of someone getting all dolled up, but they had nowhere to go? When you really connect with these people, they are empty. They are uncomfortable, and in the end people just walk all over them. You need to be you. Be unapologetically you. Wear the things you want to wear, not what you think you should wear. If you like bright colors, wear it with pride. Having that confidence to be true to yourself will show the world you respect yourself. Then, when they see that they will show you more respect. Whether we like it or not, people judge from a first glance. If they look at you as someone who tries to please everyone they know they can walk all over you. If they look at you and see the only person you are trying to please is yourself, they’ll want to please you as well. For this episode of the Redefining Wealth Podcast I brought on a truly wonderful expert who knows about proving your value through your actions and your wardrobe: Mikki Taylor. Mikki is a popular writer, motivational speaker and TV personality. She’s known as the country's leading authority on beauty and style for women-of-color. She’s also a media veteran for more than three decades. Mikki is Editor-at-Large at ESSENCE Magazine, and the president of Mikki Taylor Enterprises, LLC, a strategic branding, consulting and communications company. She took the time to discuss powerful knowledge from her new book, Editor in Chic. Be ready for this one, because she throws out so much wisdom you’ll need to listen to this episode multiple times. Download this episode today to learn how you can stay true to yourself and be treated the way you deserve. “Why live in the shadow of who you are meant to be when you can be the real thing?” - Miki Taylor The Cliff Notes: Stop living the dress rehearsal life. You have to acknowledge everything you bring to the table. Address people by their name. Use manners and say please and thank you. Technology has changed our language. How will we teach if we don’t demonstrate our values? You antenna should go up when you’ve been asked to compromise who you are. If you don’t own it, you have to practice it. Real change always stems from within When people hate on us, it’s a plea for help. Faith is nothing if it’s not defining your life. You don’t want to just go through, you want to grow through. Queens don’t belong on well-being welfare. You have the choice to treat your body like a temple or a trailer park. You don’t need anyone to tell you what you need - listen within. When you don’t take care of yourself, you’re teaching people how to treat you. Have an unapologetic view of who you are. Dress to entertain yourself and not the world at large. “Your life should demonstrate you know who you are.” - Miki Taylor

Luvvie Ajayi: Rock Your Gifts
45:54
This week we’re continuing the You Deserve More series in acknowledgment of Women’s Equal Pay Day. Each year, I lead thousands of women through 20 principles that help them use their God-given gifts to earn more money. (Learn more at iwillearnmore.com) Many of the women I know struggle with the fact that they don’t get the same respect as men. We know that’s true, because we can see it in how we get paid. When you find out that you are getting paid less for the same thing someone else is doing, it can be a shock. Most people keep quiet. They might be too upset to say anything. They may be afraid that it will tarnish their reputation if they speak up. The truth is, someone needs to speak up. That someone should be you, because you’re not the only one going through these things. Standing up for yourself will create a domino effect. When others hear you speak up, it will give them the strength to do the same. Equality starts with you. On this episode of Redefining Wealth, I have such a sensational guest who knows all too well the importance of this: Luvvie Ajayi Luvvie is an award-winning writer and digital strategist who thrives at the intersection of comedy, technology and activism. A twelve-year blogging veteran, she's the voice behind the respected and hilarious AwesomelyLuvvie.com, where she covers all things pop culture with razor sharp commentary and wit. Her first book, I’m Judging You, was a New York times bestseller. She’s also an amazingly powerful, and inspirational, speaker. She sat down on this episode and shared a time when she was treated unfairly, financially, at a speaking engagement just because she is a black woman. What adds insult to injury is that they reached out to her because of her fame and popularity. We also discussed the importance of pushing through your fears, and how you can build the best relationships right from the get got. Hint: You don’t start by selfishly asking for something! I know this is going to be an interview you take a lot away from. Get your pen and paper ready and then download this episode to learn how you can achieve the success you want and get the equality you deserve!

Doreen Rainey: Face Your Fears
48:12
“The big separator of those who win and those who settle is what they do when fear shows up.” - Doreen Rainey This week, we’re kicking off the You Deserve More series in acknowledgment of Women’s Equal Pay Day. Each year, I lead thousands of women through 20 principles that help them use their God-given gifts to earn more money. (Learn more at iwillearnmore.com) Talking with people over the years, I have found that the number one thing that holds them back is fear. I’m sure you know that feeling all too well. You may be afraid of failure. You may be afraid of what people will think of you. You may even be afraid of your own success. Whatever it is, you’re no alone. I’m afraid all the time. Every time I start a new project, every time I step on stage to speak, I’m constantly confronted with fear. And I want to get one thing straight before I continue: fear is not bad. Fear is meant to keep you safe. Fear is meant to protect you. It’s completely natural. The difference between someone who is successful and someone who isn’t, is simply that a successful person won’t give in to the fear. When you face your fears, and start that new project it becomes the new norm. The fear will go away in some areas, but you have to face it before it will disappear. One example of that for me was this podcast. I had so many fears, and one of them was, “What if no one listens to me? What if they find my voice annoying?” I did it anyway, and this podcast has been so much more successful so much faster than I expected. And you know what else? It’s not scary anymore. In fact, I look forward to it every single week. To discuss fears further, and exactly how you can get over them, I brought you a very special guest: Doreen Rainey. Doreen is known for her no-nonsense, direct approach. She challenges her clients to move past the obstacles and excuses that block their forward motion. Pulling on her extensive education and experience in training and development, communications, personal growth, entrepreneurship and authentic living, she provides the foundation for the courses, programs and events that deliver the blueprint to empower her clients to take action. As Founder and CEO of the RADICAL Success Institute and the Vice President, Operations, Act Like A Success; A Steve Harvey Company, she is driven by a singular vision: to help people define success for themselves and have the guts to go after it. Download this episode now and learn how to identify your fears, where they come from, and how you can overcome them to build the wealth you deserve in all areas of life. “You have to define what you want for yourself and then get the guts to go after it.” - Doreen Rainey 5 Common Fears: Fear of failure Fear of success Fear of rejection Fear of judgment Fear of what ifs The Cliff Notes: We have to manage our fears. Fear is non discriminatory. Success can bring more responsibility and judgment. Those who are successful are the ones who move forward despite their fears. Know where your fears are based from. The worst case scenario of being an entrepreneur is getting a job. Don’t betray yourself to make others happy. Go out and do something big, which you already know you’re called to do, you’re just afraid to step out there. The first step of clarity is to choose what you want to move forward with. Realize that no one really cares about you. The first part of being radical is defining success for yourself. You don’t get what you want, you get what you believe. Don’t internalize other people’s opinions. “A confused mind accomplishes nothing.” - Doreen Rainey

Bless Thy Enemy: They Just Aren't Worth the Energy
31:22
“If something being said about you doesn’t hold up against the truth, it has to be dismissed.” - Mikki Taylor No matter who you are, you are going to have haters. The unfortunate truth is the more successful you become, the more there will be, and they louder they will become. So you have to be mentally prepared to deal with the noise as we talk about in the FIT pillar. One of the most important things you need to know is that you cannot let them distract you. You can’t let them take you off the path of your purpose, or make you doubt yourself. I’m sure we all heard from our mamas the cliche’ that “Baby, they’re just jealous.” There’s truth in that. Your prosperity brings light to the fact that they may actually be either doing something wrong or just unsatisfied with where they are in life. Instead of letting your haters bring you down, you can let their negative energy raise you up. Know that they are only there to test you and try to knock you off course, but if you keep your head up there’s a testimony in the end. With things like social media today, it’s harder to escape those haters. Know that you aren’t alone. We all have them, and if you haven’t encountered them yet, count your blessings. But know they will be coming, so be prepared. There isn’t a single successful person who didn’t have haters. The more important they were, the stronger their haters. Martin Luther King Jr., Susan B. Anthony, and even Jesus had more than their share of haters. They didn’t let their enemies hold them back. They only fueled their vision, and it’s important you learn from their lessons if you want to achieve greatness. On this episode of Redefining Wealth I break down how you can overcome the struggles that not only I have dealt with from enemies, but that I see happening around me every day. I made this episode to give you hope and help you see the light so you don’t get pulled down by their darkness. As Oprah says, “We must transcend darkness with our light.” Download this episode today to learn how to not only stay above those who want to keep you down, but also how to use them to elevate your purpose even further. “A life filled with silly social drama and gossip indicates that a person is disconnected from purpose and lacking meaningful goals.” - Brendon Burchard The Cliff Notes: As you create wealth and prosperity there will be haters - don’t give in to them. Your winning shows them the reality of what they are doing wrong. Blessing thy enemy is more for you than it is for them. A blessing is “a public declaration of a favored status.” When people are focused on their priorities they don’t have the time to be mean and nasty. Meditate daily on the truth of what is instead of the stories of what if. Don’t get caught up in petty gossip. You are who you are, don’t let your character shift because of who you are in conflict with. What you verbalize you magnify in your own light. Sometimes the battle is in your own mind. No one grows being stagnant, we grow in the face of adversity. You can’t fight darkness with darkness. You need mental clarity to achieve the wealth and prosperity you want. “Let your haters be your elevation.”

Dr. Daniel Crosby: The Best Thing You Can Do is Nothing
51:47
“Wealth doesn’t equal intelligence.” - Dr. Daniel Crosby Finances can be a very confusing thing for people, especially when it comes to investing. You might think you need to have a detailed game plan on where to put all of your money, and check on your stocks every 30 seconds to make sure everything keeps going up and be ready to sell the moment things start to turns. Not true. The best investors set it then forget it. In fact, a Fidelity study contacted all of their top investors to hear their secrets about their accounts. When they reached out, you know what they discovered? The top investors fell into one of two categories. Either they completely forgot about their Fidelity accounts until they received the phone call, or they were dead. Investing is the easy part. The hard part is controlling your day to day behavior. One place to start is to stop splurging or listening to social media stars who show off their garage full of sports cars without giving any real advice. You don’t know their success or how they got it. Money doesn’t equal intelligence. On this episode I bring you a very special guest who does have intelligence when it comes to investing: Dr. Daniel Crosby. Dr. Crosby is at the forefront of behavioralizing finance. Educated at Brigham Young and Emory Universities, Dr. Daniel Crosby is a psychologist, behavioral finance expert and asset manager who applies his study of market psychology to everything from financial product design to security selection. His ideas have appeared in the Huffington Post, Think Advisor, and Risk Management, as well as his monthly columns for WealthManagement.com and Investment News. Daniel was named one of the “12 Thinkers to Watch” by Monster.com, a “Financial Blogger You Should be Reading” by AARP and in the “Top 40 Under 40” by Investment News. We are fortunate enough to have him on this episode to discuss the importance of investing, what makes a good investor, and how you can successfully start investing your own money. Download this episode now and learn how you can get in the market and help secure your future. “You need to be process driven, not results driven.” - Dr. Daniel Crosby The Cliff Notes: Personal finance is easy, it’s applying the knowledge that can be tough. The way you frame your finances has a big impact on how you use them. Fear is a very short term motivator. Motivate your financial decisions with love. Purpose is everything. It’s better to ride out investments as opposed to jumping in and out. Women are better investors than men. Men can be overconfident, which is why they don’t make good traders. You need a financial advisor because people are always stupid with their own money. You can get results for the wrong reasons. Be your own benchmark for success. Wealth does not equal intelligence. Be an informed consumer of social media. Do an audit of your life to evaluate what us elevating you and what isn’t. Your financial success depends on your ability to do the most boring parts. “The more people trade, the worse they do.” - Dr. Daniel Crosby

Birthday Q+A: Ask Patrice Anything
54:08
“My definition of forgiveness is giving up the possibility of a better past.” On this special episode of the Redefining Wealth podcast, I answer questions from all of you about the situations you find yourselves in. I really hope you take as much or as little of my perspective as you feel is valuable. This episode was a birthday gift for myself. I don’t take your loyalty lightly, and connecting with all of you through a Q&A conversation made me realize just how much I have to be thankful for. Download this episode today to hear how I learned to advocate for myself and become the person you hear speaking to you. When you finish this episode let me know what you thought of it by visiting www.PatriceWashington.com/31. “Even after all the accolades and success, what truly defined me was finding myself in one humbling position after another.” The Cliff Notes: What defines us are the humbling moments, not success. It takes time to recognize the gift you have inside yourself. Use affirmations like, “I deserve to be wealthy because of the value I add to others.” Don’t let ego get in the way of your work. Recognize that your incidents and failures happened for you, not to you. Remind your friends that you’re there for them. Live a life that matters and people will feel your legacy. Sit your loved ones down and teach them how to treat you. Decide not to decide anything when trying to be still. Nothing positive happens in isolation. Forgive yourself for letting betrayers into your inner circle. Don’t close yourself off to anyone unless they give you reason to. “If you’re pouring light into others, you deserve to be wealthy.”

Marshawn Evans Daniels: It's Time to Believe Bigger
01:10:16
“The goal is not to climb mountains. The goal is to move mountains.” - Marshawn Evans Daniels Being successful can become an addiction. If you’re not careful, you can spend your life striving to get the title, the money, the esteem or whatever you’re striving to check off your list, but achieving any of those things doesn’t necessarily equate to living in your purpose. For many, discovering their purpose isn’t easy, though. It takes a lot of work, and the truth is it can feel like one of your greatest challenges. Especially because no one can “help you” find your purpose, they can only help you become aware of it. You also can’t find your purpose intellectually. You can’t lock yourself in a room and think about your life, your experiences, and go “Oh, yeah. Here’s what I’m going to do to change the world.” That’s never worked for anyone, ever, and it certainly isn’t enough to work for you. To find your purpose you have to get out in the world. You have to get into the trenches, surround yourself with people and see how you impact their lives. On this episode of Redefining Wealth, we are joined by the best person to help you become aware of your purpose: Marshawn Evans Daniels. Marshawn is a Reinvention Strategist, Millionaire Business Owner, Mentor, Best-Selling Author, TV Personality, Wife and Faith-Walker. Download this episode today to hear her inspirational story and what it takes to find your purpose in this world. “Purpose is more about personality then it is profession.” - Marshawn Evans Daniels The Cliff Notes: There are two drivers: pleasure or pain. God did not design you to succeed. He designed you to be capable of winning. How are you naturally designed to impact, influence, and make the lives of other people better? Purpose is not an intellectual exercise. Your purpose is more about your personality than your profession. You can be whatever you think you can if you first think you can. Our gifts are great clues into who we should become. We don’t take the time to work on ourselves. Our lives are a message and designed to teach. Bigger decisions take you into a bigger life. People wrestle with God over the steering wheel. You don’t figure it out intellectually. When you believe bigger, the answer will be clearer. We are taught to be risk managers, not how to be bold. “Purpose is not an intellectual exercise, and it is not a checklist.” - Marshawn Evans

You Can't Be Selective With Surrender
39:55
“If you fool yourself into thinking you’ve mastered something, you stop doing the work.” * Let me know what you think of this episode, or ask me a question for future episode at: FreeCallWithPatrice.com * One of the scariest and hardest things we can do is surrender. We want control, and think we know what’s best. The truth is, if you want to get where you are going you need to trust in the process. Trust that you will reach the destination you want to get to, and allow yourself to travel the path you are being taken down. The more you fight it, the more you are going to impede your progress. Don’t just surrender in one area of life. Surrender in all areas. That doesn’t mean give up. You still need to continue to show up and give it your all. You just can’t dictate the path you are going down. On this episode of the Redefining Wealth podcast, I open up about the importance of surrendering and how it changed my life. This episode was a tough one for me. Not because I didn’t know what to do, but because it’s so personal for me. I share a lot on this episode with you and I hope you learn from my life and my mistakes. Download this episode today to hear how I learned to surrender the hard way. PS, when you finish this episode let me know what you thought of it by clicking the link at the bottom. “If you are too scared to surrender, you impede your own progress.” The Cliff Notes: The definition of surrender is to yield to the power, control, or position of another. Many of us struggle with surrendering. There’s no reason to suffer in silence. You need to surrender in all areas, not just one or two. Wake up looking for new opportunities. Have a daily quiet time. Look for the blessing that is to come on the other side. We get to tell any story that we want. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Trust the process and let go. Sometimes the best thing you can do is nothing. “Your challenges aren’t happening to you, they are happening for you.”

Tai + Talaat McNeely: How One Couple Survived Financial Infidelity
52:03
“When I came up against this discrepancy in my character, it was tough to combat.” - Tai + Talaat McNeely Everyone worries about their partner cheating on them, but there’s actually a different type of infidelity that is much more common and leads to just as many divorces: Financial Infidelity. Most people don’t think about it, but when you lie to your partner about your financial standing or hide purchases or keep secret stashes, you are being dishonest no matter how you attempt to justify it. Yes, even having that secret credit card to buy those shoes you can’t live without is deceitful. A marriage should not only be about honesty, but working together for success. That includes your financial success. I have a lot of people who tell me that their family always taught them to have a secret account just in case. My response is always, “Just in case what?” If you are starting your relationship with an exit plan, maybe you need to reevaluate the person you are thinking of spending the rest of your life with. The way your family treated money doesn’t need to be the way that you do. There’s a lot of things my family has done that I would be ashamed to do, and money is no different. Don’t mimic what your family members do if it’s not supportive of the life or relationship you desire. Learn from their mistakes. If your aunt is giving you this advice, and she’s on her fifth husband, that might tell you something. If it’s your sister trying to help, but her husband is unhappy because he feels like a child living on his mother’s allowance, there’s a problem. Take the positive aspects from other people, get rid of the negative, and consider the source. On this episode of the Redefining Wealth Podcast, we are joined by a power couple: Tai and Talaat McNeely. These two started off their relationship on the wrong foot, financially, but overcame their struggles together. Now they have a wonderful relationship that’s open and honest about their finances, and something they have learned to work on together. Download this episode today to learn the mistakes they made early in their relationship, and how they learned to overcome their financial problems by being a team. “Are you interpreting what your parents did with their money through the correct lens?” - Tai + Talaat McNeely

Grace + Ease: The Two Words I'm Adding to Every Goal This Year
25:13
“We don’t get what we want, we get what we believe.” How many times have you got excited about something, then you felt too overwhelmed to even start? Maybe you thought it was too complicated, or that there were too many steps? Most of the time we don’t achieve our goals because we talk ourselves out of them just as fast as we talked ourselves into them. If you want to be successful, don’t make it complicated in your head - because it’s really not. Let’s take this podcast for example. It started with an idea I was excited about. When I started thinking about how much work it was, it was overwhelming. I had to buy a microphone, I had to get software to record, I had to get it edited, find music for it, figure out how to get it published, where to get it published, get it on my website, etc. It was easy to feel like I was trying to move a mountain, but I hired a coach (THANKS, VERNON ROSS!) and found it wasn’t really that hard. I just had to get started and the truth is when the ball is rolling it’s easier to move. You just need to get started. On this episode of Redefining Wealth, we discuss the ways we make things harder than necessary, and we find excuses not to commit. Download this episode now and learn how you can overcome your excuses, and make your goals easier (and more fun) than binge watching Netflix. “Progress beats perfection EVERY single time.” The Cliff Notes: Sometimes we hold ourselves back because we worry about the stress and burden our goals will bring. Don’t talk yourself out of that million dollar idea. Take your dream and simplify it down to something you can tackle one piece at a time. Grace is the condition or fact of being favored. Ease is the absence of difficulty or effort. Nothing has meaning except for the meaning we attach to it. Don’t give yourself all year to get things done. Master fewer things as opposed to giving minimal effort to many things. You have the resources to get to where you want to go - now. Don’t be afraid to weed out people that aren’t a fit for you. “Think of yourself as already being favored to succeed.”

Dr. Dennis Kimbro: Wealth is a Choice
58:13
“When you are the best at what you do you never have to worry about income because the marketplace will seek you out.” - Dr. Dennis Kimbro Many times we become too focused on money. It becomes our goal, and in the end, that’s what gets in our way. Wealth is not about money. Even money isn’t about money. The people who chase the dollar are those who come in last. If you really want to reach a place of wealth and finances, the first thing you need to do is master your skills. Become so good at something that the world can’t turn away. When this happens you’ll no longer need to seek out jobs or employment, the marketplace will start seeking you out. The second is to stay committed to your passions. Becoming complacent and comfortable is what will cause you to be left behind. You need to constantly step outside of your comfort zone and push the boundaries. Do you think Steve Jobs was ever like, “Ok, I’ve done enough?” No. He kept pushing the world of tech until the day he died. On this episode of Redefining Wealth, we are joined by one of my mentors. This man’s book changed my life, and he helped me see the light during one of my lowest moments in life. His name is, Dr. Dennis Kimbro, and if you don’t know him, you’re in for a treat! Dennis Kimbro is a best-selling author of five books, writing partner and master trainer for the prestigious Napoleon Hill Foundation and is on the faculty at Clark Atlanta University School of Business Administration. He is a recipient of the Dale Carnegie Personal Achievement award. Download this episode to hear his advice on the mindset you need to achieve the life and financial success you want. “The greatest gift we have ever been given is the ability to change our mind.” - Dr. Dennis Kimbro The Cliff Notes: Now is the time to make a difference. What’s true of God, is true of you and me. You are not broke, your circumstances are. Mindset is key to healing. If your heart is not in your throat at least once a week, you are living too far from the edge. The worst place you can ever be is in your comfort zone. The universe is rigged - in your favor. Ego is any belief other than God. You determine your fortune. Don’t ever compromise your values. Raise the standards in every area of your life. Turn your should do’s into must do’s. The passionate, committed mind will change the world. Conviction is a force multiplier. Every movement started with one individual. There’s no financial deficit, there’s a spiritual deficit. Believe and achieve. If miracles aren’t occuring in your life, love is not present. “The worst place you can ever be is in your comfort zone.” - Dr. Dennis Kimbro

Winn Claybaugh: Company Culture Begins with You
48:44
“Anytime there is a problem in an organization, it’s because relationships broke down.” - Winn Claybaugh People want to work with people who give back. It’s true. In fact, 85% of consumers will choose a to spend money with a company that is committed to giving back to its communities. It’s never too late to start giving, but it’s also never too early. If you are looking to build a business the sooner you find a way to align yourself with the community, the quicker your success will be. Not only will people want to buy from you, but people will also want to work with you. That brings us to the next point. Being a good leader is also about making sure the people around you are happy. You need to come in to work in a great mood, and everyone else on your team can thrive knowing they're supported. Give people around you permission to be friendly and social. There’s no reason for things to be stiff and awkward. Lastly know that when there is a problem that means there’s a relationship problem. People aren’t happy and they aren’t communicating properly. So instead of screaming at people, and barking orders, take the time to fix their inner problems. That’s all anyone really wants, to be respected as human beings with feelings. On this episode of Redefining Wealth we bring you a living legend in business. Winn Claybaugh is the Co-Founder, Co-Owner, and Dean of Paul Mitchell The School. Winn is widely recognized as a leader in his industry. In 2004, the North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) named him to their Hall of Leaders for his outstanding contributions to the hair and beauty industry. American Salon magazine called him a mover of mountains and Mr. Fix-it in their November 1997 Super Heroes section. A tireless and enthusiastic volunteer, Winn has served as vice president of the AIDS Relief Fund for Beauty Professionals, and he has been involved in other fundraising projects for City of Hope and Leeza Gibbons'. In the past three years, Winn and the Paul Mitchell Schools have raised over $1 million for multiple charitable organizations, including the American Cancer Society, the Larry King Cardiac Foundation, Leeza's Place, Katrina relief, AIDS causes, City of Hope, and more. Download this episode of Redefining Wealth to learn exactly how to create a company culture that will skyrocket your business. “Always be in a great mood. Fake it when necessary.” - Winn Claybaugh The Cliff Notes: Don’t compare yourself to your competitors. Follow your own heart. Create a space where people just want to be there. You don’t have to train people to hug, you just have to give them permission. There are myths that you have to be mean to your employees. Be nice to yourself first. Think about your needs, not just everyone else’s. Make sure your walks lines up with your talk. How you live your life is what should be sending your message. Choose the people in your life slow. And employee who won’t do something means there is an attitude problem. An employee that can’t do something means there is training needed. People don’t run your company, systems run your company. Write things down so they know what’s expected of them. The purpose of a meeting should be to communicate and connect as a team. Be attracted to people who are famous and successful for the right reasons. If you can’t apply what you’ve been learning, it means nothing. Don’t sit on information, immediately put it into action. Progress beats perfection. Faith gives you hope. 85% of consumers will choose a to spend money with a company that is committed to giving back to its communities. People want to work for a company that is globally aware. “I just say yes and figure it out later.” - Winn Claybaugh

48:35

You also need to know who you are not. You can not have a resurrection without a crucifixion. When you do purpose work, not just busy work, you are going to come under attack. Your past will identify the audience who is not only willing to receive you but is willing to pay for you. You can rebound from anything. When you bash other people’s past it’s because you can’t accept your past. Learn to recognize what’s worth fighting, and what’s worth leaving alone. If you want to read sections of the Bible, focus on Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. It’s important to be willing to grow and evolve. Just because you start in one place, spiritually, doesn’t mean you have to stay there. Loyalty has an expiration date. Your past, pain and passion will help you define your purpose. Pay attention to the people who have a problem with you saying no. No one who is successful has had an easy past, everyone has had to go through something. “There’s no shame in your journey.” - Tera Carissa Hodges

Egypt Sherrod: Simplicity Drives Success
53:39
“Money will not feed your soul.” - Egypt Sherrod As you know, space is an important pillar. It’s not about faking it and throwing all your junk in drawers. It’s about finding your value and showing it through your surroundings. If you have old dirty socks hiding in your desk drawer, they’re still there. They’re still showing you that you don’t mentally value yourself. Everything is a reflection of your mental state, from the mess in your garage to the clothes on your back. In fact, if all you buy are clearance items, you’re saying you aren’t worthy of nice things. Like today’s guest says, too many time we are putting ourselves on sale. Although true value does come from within, our reminders come from without. On this episode of Redefining Wealth, we are joined by an inspiration of mine, Egypt Sherrod. Egypt knows more about the importance of self-worth, and how to find your true value, than anyone I know. She’s an award-winning Realtor & CEO of the Atlanta based Egypt Sherrod Real Estate Group, she’s been chosen as one of Network Journal’s 40 Under 40, made recurring appearances as the home buyers/sellers “go-to girl” on NBC’s Today Show, CNBC, FOX, CNN, HLN as well as being featured on Fast & Company, Yahoo, Homes.com, Rolling Stone, Black Enterprise, and a host of other publications and digital platforms. Licensed in two states, Egypt is also the real estate columnist for Atlanta Magazine’s HOME. Egypt drives her lovable but no-nonsense approach home, with her NAACP Image Award-nominated “Keep Calm…It’s Just Real Estate: Your No-Stress Guide To Buying A Home,” on Running Press/Perseus Books which became a bestseller in its genre. A powerhouse speaker and moderator, Egypt hosted the stage at Oprah’s “The Life You Want Tour”, and countless business conferences. As a 20-year award-winning radio personality, Egypt has been syndicated in more than 60 cities throughout the USA. Egypt is a graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia with a Bachelors degree in Broadcasting, Telecommunications & Mass Media. She holds the designation of Master Certified Negotiator, Accredited Buyer Representative, Certified Residential Specialist and Certified Distressed Property Expert. Egypt is seamlessly using the power of television and the microphone to help others, all the while living her own life to the fullest. Download this episode now and hear her insights on how you can find your true value. “The great thing about waking up every morning is having another chance to get it right.” - Egypt Sherrod The Cliff Notes: Be in love with everything around you, don’t just tolerate it. You don’t owe anyone an explanation about how you choose to live your life. Sometimes you need to go to grow. We are responsible for our own sanctity. We don’t realize that we are living out lives on sale and putting ourselves on clearance. What you wear shows what you believe you are worth. Just because something held you back before, doesn’t mean it still has to have a hold on you today. Loving people doesn’t mean you only love people who love you back. Go room to room, and pack everything up, then only unpack what you need or love. We do not need more than half of the stuff we surround ourselves with. You need to realize that the real priority is. Experiences over things, people over material. “You can tell where people are in their lives by how their house looks on the inside.” - Egypt Sherrod

Paul Brunson: What Two Billionaires Taught Me About People
52:42
“Any time you help someone get closer to their goal, you’re adding value.” - Paul Brunson Do you treat everyone the same, or do you pick and choose the people you want to be in contact with? Do you find yourself quickly judging people and expecting them to help you? You’re doing yourself a huge disservice. You never know who is watching that has the power to bless you. Your people skills, in all areas of life, are what will make you or break you. As a result, I’m going to give you 3 tips that will help you build your overall wealth. Don’t ask for things from others unless you’ve given at least 10x first. If you follow these three simple rules you’ll open up possibilities you never thought were possible. On this episode of Redefining Wealth, we continue the Results - Not Resolutions series to help us achieve our relationship goals this year. We are joined by the man who knows more about relationships and selfless giving than anyone: Paul C. Brunson. Paul is an entrepreneur, author, and television host that has become recognized internationally as one of the most successful matchmakers and small business leaders. He is the founder and chairman of the award-winning matchmaking firm, PCBA. His boutique company of 9 matchmakers, counselors, and coaches is considered one of the leading firms in the sector, receiving the iDate Best Matchmaker and Best Relationship Coaching of the Year awards in 2015. He received an NAACP Image Award nomination for his first book entitled: It’s Complicated (But It Doesn’t Have to Be): A Modern-Day Guide to Finding and Keeping Love. We are so blessed to have him join us today. Download this episode to hear amazing insights on growing relationships in all areas of life to achieve the wealth you deserve. “People skills are critical to living our optimal lives.” - Paul Brunson The Cliff Notes: There’s always someone watching you that has the power to bless you. The same pillars that go into romantic relationships also go into personal and business relationships. We all need to be better listeners. There’s a difference between hearing and listening. Listening allows you to capture the moment and acknowledges the other person. Everyone wants to be acknowledged. Don’t ask for things too early. To build a rapport you need to give, give, and give. Social media has allowed people to fake it without ever making it. We all want autonomy, impact, and money. Those with high standards and high expectations always have a higher quality of life. If you want to create phenomenal relationships with other people you have to first create a phenomenal relationship with yourself. Would you rather have 100,000 Twitter followers or just have Oprah follow you? “Don’t just show up, show up at 100.” - Paul Brunson

Brandi Harvey: Your Roots Create Your Results
01:04:41
“Everybody has the giant inside of them.” - Brandi Harvey Let me ask you something, and I want you to be honest. What’s the point of making a resolution if you aren’t going to keep it? Also, how do you expect to keep your resolution if you’re not fixing the root of the problem? For example, the most common New Year’s resolution is to get in shape. You can go to the gym, and lose the weight but that alone isn’t going to keep the weight off. Your fitness doesn’t start at the body. Like most things in life, it starts at the mind and soul. You need to analyze what got you overweight, to begin with. Is it from emotional eating? Do you have bad habits, like rewarding yourself with a milkshake when you do something good? On this episode of the Redefining wealth podcast, we are joined by my good friend, Brandi Harvey. You probably recognize her as the daughter of popular TV show host, Steve Harvey, but much more than that Brandi is a wellness advocate, teacher and profound public speaker. Recently she’s started her own company BEYOND HER, which is still in its infancy. Download this episode today to hear her amazing insights on one of the most important pillars: Fit. “Nothing is going to stop you but you.” - Brandi Harvey The Cliff Notes: If you want results, you have to do things you’ve never done before. Don’t be the skinniest person in the room, be the healthiest. Sometimes you just need a nudge or word to wake up your inner giant. You only get one body to take care of. Our bodies need to be loved, respected and cared for. A part of our journey is respecting our temple. Whatever we do in the dark, it shows up in the light. You have to change all of your habits if you want to see results. You can’t out train a bad diet. What we put into our bodies has the ability to heal us, or to harm us. Greatness never goes on sale, it’s always full price. You have to consider what caused the weight to get there in the first place. A quick fix never lasts, you have to find the root of the problem. Everything is connected: Mind, Body, and Soul. Make sure you have the mental capacity to handle the things you want. Take the time to reflect on your feelings. To get the things that you want, you have to do the things you’ve never done. You have to be alone for the spirit to talk to you. Every great person has had a mountaintop experience. Many people use their faith as a cop out. You can’t pray about it and then forget about it. Don’t be afraid to surrender. “You can’t get ready for your life. It’s happening right now.” - Brandi Harvey

10 Lessons from 10 Years of Marriage
27:52
“A good relationship should make you want more from yourself.” Tomorrow, December 29th, 2017 is my 10 year wedding anniversary with my husband, Gerald. As a result I wanted to record a special podcast with him focusing on one of the most important pillars - relationships. Making a marriage work is no easy task. There is no such thing as a perfect relationship, and it certainly isn’t all sunshine and roses. Believe me. Like anything in life, relationships take work. You and your spouse are two different people, and you will never find someone that is exactly like you. Plus, if you did, how boring would that be? There’d be no surprises, you’d both have the same flaws and end up hurting each other more than helping. A good relationship should have balance. You should be supportive of each other, and most importantly your spouse should inspire you to be better in every aspect of life. My husband and I have been through it all. We went from highs, to lows, and back up again. Even when we’ve been frustrated, and felt like throwing in the towel, we knew we had to honor each other. We had to put in the effort to overcome our obstacles, apologize even when we didn’t want to, and make the time to grow together. On this episode of Redefining Wealth, the Washingtons team up to give you 10 lessons we’ve learned from ten years of marriage. Download this episode today to learn what it really takes to have a lasting, happy relationship. “Marriage takes work, it’s not all sunshine and roses.” 10 Lessons from 10 Years of Marriage 10. Friendship is the foundation 9. Laughter is mandatory 8. Embrace the journey 7. Date night is imperative 6. Date her consistently 5. Kids come second 4. Commitment is a daily choice 3. Remind her that she is beautiful 2. Forgiveness is giving up the possibility of a better past 1. Accept your differences. The Cliff Notes: What good is it to chase money or career success when your relationship is in shambles? You don’t always have to be serious. There will always be lessons that come from the ups and the downs. Make it a point to get out and just enjoy each other's company. Don’t be afraid to switch date nights - and be intentional about it. Parents: You’ll have a better chance at finding a babysitter on Tuesday or Wednesdays, not a Friday or Saturday. Children are a byproduct of your relationship, so they should come second. There’s a lot of time when you don’t feel like doing things, but to honor the union you need to do it anyway. It’s easy to replay what someone did to hurt you, but you need to let it go. There’s no point in wishing things happened differently - the past is what it is. “Remind your partner not just of their outside beauty, but also of their inner beauty.”

Results VS Resolutions: Commitment Makes the Difference
39:59
“You have to be great, even when you don’t feel like it.” How many times have you made a New Year’s resolution, or a goal, and you’re still waiting for it to happen? You’re not alone, and I’m here to help you make sure that’s not a problem this year. We all get in those modes. “I’m going to lose weight,” or, “I’m going to finally get my side business going,” or even, “This is the year I organize my garage.” Then you build up your interest. You research everything you can. You make plans, maybe you even buy into things that should make it happen. Workout clothes, a website domain, or even shelves. Then they just sit there. The problem isn’t your interest, it’s not your passion - it’s your commitment. You need to really analyze your goals. Is it something you are going to want to do even if you are tired? Even when you are sick? Because let’s face it, if you’re going to make excuses to get out of it. Results don’t come from whims of inspiration, they come from staying true to your goals through thick and thin. Commitment is the difference between success and mediocrity. Download this episode today to learn how you can remain dedicated, committed, and achieve your goals. “Are you committed to your goal or just interested in them?” 3 Things to Think About When Making a Resolution: 1.Commitment takes more than interest. 2.Commitment is not based on how you feel. 3.Commitment means completion. The Cliff Notes: •This is a difficult time of year, and you are not alone. •Make sure you are not physically alone. •92% of us don’t stick with resolutions. •Shift your mindset from resolutions to getting results. •To go to the next level, it can’t be ok to make the same resolutions year after year. •Interest is what we do when we just talk about things. •Being interested fools you into making you look busy. •You have to go the extra mile and show up when you don’t feel like it. •We are all exhausted and don’t feel well on certain days, •You don’t get to not show up unless you are ok with just being mediocre. •You have to be great, even when you don’t feel like it. •There’s always someone watching you that has the power to bless you. •Be committed to the outcome. •If it were easy, everyone would do it. •Too many of us give up too quickly. “Aren’t you tired of having the same goals?”

Lyn Talbert: Why Making Time for You Is Mandatory
47:06
“If you do good work money will come. And when you get it, take care of it.” - Lyn Talbert Have you ever had someone tell you that you should pick one thing and stick with it? That may be good advice for some, but it doesn’t work for everyone. You want to avoid spreading yourself too thin, but at the same time there’s no reason you should start to feel trapped. We all have a lot of passions and things we know a lot about, so why not turn them into a fun business as well? The important thing to remember if another project is something you want to pursue is that your work has your name on it. Is it something that you will want to be representative of you? Are you able to put enough into it that you’ll want it associated with you? On this episode of redefining wealth we have someone who is truly inspirational, mega producer, Lyn Talbert. Lyn has set so many records and first in the entertainment industry, started her own beauty line, and still manages to take a bath every day. Talk about someone I want to be! Download this episode today to hear all about what it takes to make multiple dreams come true. “Be easy to work with.” - Lyn Talbert The Cliff Notes: Purpose is evolving. It’s good to go into something with a positive attitude and learn from mistakes. Your name is on your work and is representative of you. Do the best that you can and put in your research. When meeting a mentor skip the surface questions and go in deep. Most mentors are too busy to help you every day. Take a bath regularly to help you relax. Are You in a Money Making Space?
29:40
“As your soul prospers, the financial abundance will be undeniable.” When is the last time you looked around at your office or work space? Does it look like somewhere that deserve to be making a million dollars, or does it look like somewhere people should be discarding their old McDonalds wrappers? If you work in a landfill, all you are going to attract is more trash. Now, I may be going a little over the top. Your work space may not be that bad (although I have seen some nasty places), but is it truly reflecting what you want to get? Your work space is the foundation of where your money making starts. It needs just as much love and respect as the work you are actually doing, whether it’s an office, a cubicle, or even your living room. Putting yourself in an environment that say you’re worth a million bucks will inspire your creativity and help your workflow to get you to where you want to be. There’s 5 simple tricks I’ll dive into on this episode of Redefining Wealth that will help you prepare your space. When it’s where you need it to be, make sure you respect it. And not just you, but everyone who enters it. Download this episode today and start building the environment that will bring you the success you want. “If your money-making space has clutter, how can you expect clarity around the activities that it takes to make money?” 5 Things to Keep in Mind: Set an intention Remove the clutter Surround the environment with positive words. Keep your goals in front of you. Make your environment peaceful. The Cliff Notes: Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready. Try not to treat your office like any old space. Make sure your office is a money making space. When your life is setup to support you it will attract new opportunities. Live in your aspirational reality. Try to be productive, not busy. A vision board will remind you what your goals really are. Hand write the important things. People move at different levels of energy. You can be self sabotaging without even realizing it. “Set the strategy and tone for how everything in your life goes.”

How to Walk in Expectancy
32:17
“Walking in expectation is about trusting and believing things are working together for my good.” Do you have expectations that don’t work out exactly how you want? Do you feel like you spend all of your energy trying to make things perfect and exactly how you visioned them, only to be disappointed with life? Maybe it’s time for you to stop living in expectations and start learning to walk in expectancy. Many people think that having expectations is the same thing as expectancy, but it’s really not. Expectations are about hoping everything goes exactly the way you wanted it to from beginning to end. Walking in expectancy is about heading to your destination, and trusting everything will work out for the greater good. You don’t need the perfect plan to get started, in fact that will just cause you to delay a failure as you try to map out your destination. Instead get moving, learn along the way, and trust that everyone and everything around you will help guide you to your goals. If you try to force your expectations to happen, you may inadvertently be heading in the wrong direction or missing out on lessons you need to learn along the way. Trust in the journey. On this episode of redefining wealth I dive further into the pillar of faith, and explain how you too can walk with expectancy. Download this episode today to learn how you can give up your expectations to live an all around happier life and get to places you didn’t even know were possible. “God knows what you’re waiting on when he sees what you’re working on.” The Cliff Notes: Faith is an important pillar about believing in something greater. Most people assume expectations and expectancy are the same thing. We believe having your finances in order means chasing money. Expectations are what we hope for. What we look forward to is not always what we get. Sometimes we set the bar too high, sometimes we set them too low. Trying to do what you want by any means necessary can put your energy in the wrong places. Expectancy enhances our expectations. It’s about expecting all things will work out for your good. You have to take action if you want something to happen. If you want to be writer, you have to write. If you want to be an investor you have to invest. There’s not much we control except ourselves, our attitude, and our abilities. Walking in expectancy means confidently looking for favor at every turn. Our conversations should reflect victory - not victimhood. “You can be committed to the vision, but not attached to how you get there.”

Gratitude, Giving + Genuine Abundance
26:58
“What do you get to be grateful for today?” Do you feel like things just aren’t happening for you, no matter how smart or talented you are? Chances are you’re stuck on one, if not both, of the two G’s. The two G’s we are discussing today are Gratitude and Giving. Both are powerful things that affect all areas of your life. The first, gratitude, is something we really only do when things are going right in our worlds. That’s when being grateful is convenient. It’s when you’re down and in dark places that you need it the most. You have to fight for gratitude, and make sure you have it every day. But don’t just hold it in, let others know you are grateful. No one wants to be around, or work with, someone that they don’t feel appreciates them. The second G, giving, is something people think they do, but often do it wrong. They give for the wrong reasons. They do it to be selfish, and to try to get something back. Every time you give you will get something back. It may not be from that person, and it may not be what you expect, but you will get back. Just don’t make what you get be the reason you give. My biggest suggestion is to give then forget. When you do that you won’t even worry about what’s coming - it’ll just be there waiting for you and the surprise makes it all the better. On this episode of Redefining Wealth I discuss into much more detail the important of these two Gs, and how they affect your overall wealth. Download this episode today to hear how helping others and finding appreciation in even the darkest times will lead you to a happier, wealthier, and all around better life. “Wealth is about the condition of well being.” The Cliff Notes: Wealth is about the condition of well being. What you verbalize you magnetize. Your attitude towards a process will determine your success. The two G’s today are Gratitude and Giving. Gratitude isn’t something that you casually do. You have to fight for your gratitude. You have to show gratitude before you can be blessed with more. No one wants to work with someone who isn’t grateful. It’s easy to be cheery when everything's going your way. Most of us think we are great givers - not so. Are you giving from a place of obligation? Don’t give in order to get back. Give and forget. Giving comes back in other forms. “Giving and receiving works in perfect harmony.”

The Diderot Effect: Why We Buy Things We Don't Need
28:12
“What are you a slave to right now?” How many times have you bought a new dress but felt like you didn’t have anything to go with it? Even if that dress was a great deal, when you consider the shoes you bought to go with it, the earrings to match, and all of the other accessories it wasn’t cheap. Don’t worry though, you aren’t alone. We’ve all been there. In fact it’s so common there’s a name for it that psychologists use: The Diderot Effect. Society trains us to be over consumers. We are taught that we need look our best, to have things that show us off. All it takes is a simple shift in your mindset. When you purchase something, think about if you really need it. Will it really change your life forever? Is it something that you really needed yesterday, a year ago, or even ten years ago? Is it something you will use over and over and over again and day after day or is it just a temporary high? If the answer was no to any of those that means you probably don’t need it. You work hard for your money, and you should keep it. Don’t let spontaneous decisions take away from your wealth. If you aren’t sure, go home and sleep on it. If you still feel you need it the next day you can always go back and get it. And if it isn’t there, then the universe is sending you a sign that you didn’t need it. On this episode of Redefining Wealth we explore the Diderot Effect, and ways you can avoid the pitfalls of over spending. Download this episode today and learn ways you can avoid running yourself, and your wallet, ragged. “We buy things our previous selves didn’t need to feel happy or fulfilled.” The Cliff Notes: It’s tempting to overspend on things we don’t need and people don’t want. Most people really just want our time. It’s common for us to make one purchase that leads to more in accessories that we don’t need. This is known as the Diderot Effect If you buy something, give something away. Don’t allow yourself to be a slave to stuff. Buy things to be worn over and over again. Finish Strong: Determine What's Important Now
32:11
“Intentions without a sound strategy is just wishful thinking.” How many times have you said to yourself, “This is the year I’m going to do this,” or “I’m finally going to save money,” but nothing happens? That’s because you need to learn how to finish strong. It’s easy to say you’re going to do something, or make plans for getting things going “one day”. But one day will probably never come. You need to learn to shift your mindset and your habits. For example, instead of saying “I’m going to save more,” make a clear goal. More could be a dollar a month, and is that really going to help? Once you’ve decided, ok I’m going to save ten percent of my check each week - then come up with a plan. What are you going to cut out to make that happen? How are you going to control your spending? No dream can become a reality without a solid plan. On this episode of Redefining Wealth, we explore ways to make sure you finish strong. Anyone can create an idea, but only those who are truly prosperous can make it a reality. Download this episode today to hear tips and tricks to making sure your promises to yourself make it to the real world. “Pride had no place in the life of a truly prosperous person.” The Cliff Notes: Find well-being in every area of your life. You can’t do what you say you want to do without a plan. Identify what matters most. At some point the pain of not doing it is greater than the pain of doing it. Find something that you are ok with the inconvenience of doing the work. Define what you need to win. Clarity brings confidence. You have to be clear about what you want before you can bring it forth. When you set something you know you want, you know when you want it by. Take the time to track your progress. Use accountability partners so you don’t let yourself off the hook. Don’t be embarrassed to share your goals. Move away from things that are a hope, a prayer, or a wish. Don’t use generic terms like “I want to save more” or “I want to pay off debt”. Give yourself deadlines. Use visual representations of your goals. Don’t be busy, be productive. E-mails shouldn’t be a priority. Limit your social media. Take your time back. Every minute counts, don’t let people talk just to talk. Create email templates for information you give our over and over again. “If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll never get there.” View the show notes and resources at PatriceWashington.com/Listen

Latham Thomas: The Necessity of Sacred Spaces
01:00:21
Do you ever feel like you need to keep busy? That you need to rush rush rush, and keep on the move in order to get what you want? Chances are you are doing more harm than good. We get lost in the rush of life sometimes, and what we really need to do is take a moment to ourselves. “You have to cultivate within what you are asking for.” - Latham Thomas We are taught that as adults we need to stop playing, that it’s only for children. The truth is we need to take time out of our day to play, because that’s when we are the most creative. Even companies in Silicon Valley have discovered the rewards of play and tapping into your inner self by setting up game rooms. We all need that time to ourselves to just let our brains do what they naturally want to do. Take time every day to step away from technology and just let your mind wander. We all have a GPS inside of us that guides us to where we need to go. If we don’t take the time to check in with our intuition and creativity, we’re going to get lost and end up on the wrong path. On this episode of Redefining Wealth we are joined by an amazing guest, Latham Thomas. Latham has studied and harnessed the power of our inner GPS. She joins us today to discuss what we need to do to make sure we are really listening to ourselves and going down the path to the wealth we want. Download this episode today to learn how you can get in touch with your GPS and find the fulfillment you deserve. “We have to be mindful what we consume and what consumes us.” - Latham Thomas The Cliff Notes: We transform everything that is handed to us. A lot of people know what to say, that doesn’t mean they embody it. When you learn something, put it into practice. Let your intuition be your guide. There is a timeline of this life in this body. Check in with yourself constantly, like you do with your GPS in your car. Always think about the process about how you want to show up. If you don’t feel like doing it, just say no. Control what you allow in your space. You need to recharge yourself. Try everything and find the things that work for you. Give yourself time to play. A real break is taking yourself away from technology. Wealth is a birthright. “Play is an important pathway to creativity.” - Latham Thomas Show notes: PatriceWashington.com/listen

Sheri Riley: The Value of Being Present
01:01:32
“Time and attention are the currency of the soul.” - Sheri RIley In today’s society we are so bombarded with technology and communication that we think our presence is enough. Just because our bodies are there doesn’t mean that we are. There’s no way that you can build a meaningful relationship if you’re trying to do a conference call, while trying to snap chat, post on Instagram and make the actual people in the room just props. We need to take the time to step away from everything and engage in the people we are with. Take the time to focus on them. Learn about their feelings, and what they want. Don’t be afraid to ask what you can do for them. That simple communication can make the world of difference. Without these relationships we can’t feel fulfilled, so make them count. On this episode we are joined by Sheri RIley. Sheri is the author of the award winning book, Exponential Living. Download this episode today to hear deep insights about how you can start making yourself feel complete. “I never end a meeting without saying ‘How can I be of service to you?’” - Sheri RIley The Cliff Notes: Many people have great external lives but still feel empty. Most people spend 100% of their time on 10% of who they are. Learned to live 100% of who you are. So many people set big goals, and don’t realize when they hit them. When you set your goals, make sure you are achieving the real element of success. There’s a value in presence, not just being present. We’re so afraid of really focusing in because we wonder what we will miss. Relationships have dwindled down to we can mark it off that we met. In existing relationships, hone in on what the other person wants. People don’t have a problem with giving, just don’t be a taker. We confuse work with value. Work drains you, but maximizing elevates and energizes you. When you’re always working, opportunities pass you by. Don’t work just to check things off the list. You have to filter other people’s opinions when they don’t know your vision. It’s easy to get caught up in what other people are doing. Comparison will steal your joy. Happy is a choice, joy is a lifestyle. Money comes and goes, know what really matters. “Relationships are not about being equal, it’s about being reciprocal.” - Sheri RIley Show Notes: PatriceWashington.com/listen Links: Exponential Living

The Power of No Comparison
24:35
We're conditioned to compare ourselves to the people around us. We look at other people and judge ourselves based on them. How they look, the things they have, the accomplishments they’ve made. “The story I told myself about myself, self-sabotaged my success for 20 years.” The truth is the only person you should be comparing yourself to is who you were yesterday. You don’t know other people’s stories, and you need to focus on creating your own. Make goals for yourself, and take baby steps to get there. Don’t try to take giant leaps to get there or you will be discouraged. For example, if you want to run a marathon don’t try to run twenty miles tomorrow. Start small with a reasonable goals, like a half mile, so you’re small accomplishments act as a fuel to get you to your final goal. Lastly, and most importantly, don’t tell yourself you can’t. You can. We all make excuses, but the truth is there is nothing we can’t do. All we have to do is set our mindframe to “I can” and we will get to what we want. On this episode of Redefining Wealth, Patrice explains the power of no comparison. She analyzes ways we hold ourselves back, and what we can do to overcome our biggest obstacle: ourselves. Download this episode today and learn how you can start changing your mindset and get on track to making your goals into a reality. “Only compete against the person you were yesterday.” The Cliff Notes: You need to protect the vessel needed to execute the vision. -We shouldn’t compare ourselves to others. -Only compete against the person you were yesterday. -You can look thin and still be unhealthy. -The words you say to yourself impact your life. -Notice what excuses you are making for yourself. -You have to stay committed to you. -Be proud of you. -Find a vision and take baby steps to get there. “You have to stay committed to you." Dr. Brad Klontz: The Truth About Savings
37:04
“The ultimate goal of financial psychology is to help us improve our financial wealth by improving our psychology.” - Dr. Brad Klontz Many of us want to save our money. We want to have a rainy day fund. We want to be able to buy that dream house. We want to have a vacation fund. So why is it so rare for us? Like many things, the problem is caused by our upbringings. We gain our beliefs about finances and money from the environment we were raised in. In fact, we can predict someone’s financial outcome based on their parents financial situation. That doesn’t mean you are stuck, though. There are ways you can retrain your psychology to achieve your financial goals. The first thing you need to do is stop trying to appeal to your logical side. Our decisions are always based on our emotions. If you want to save, you need to find ways to appeal to your emotional side. You may want to build a vision board, with pictures of all of your dreams. Every time you see it, you’ll be emotionally motivated. But that’s not where it ends. Once you’re motivated you need to take action. You need a plan and a strategy to follow the motivation. On this episode of Redefining Wealth we are joined by a very special guest on a very special day. Today, October 12th, is Capital One’s National Savings Days. Dr. Brad Klontz is here to discuss financial psychology, and how you can hack your brain to start building the wealth you want. Download this episode today to learn what you need to do to reprogram your mindset and start increasing that savings account so you can finally achieve your dreams. “Our default is to not save at all.” - Dr. Brad Klontz The Cliff Notes: We constantly make decisions contradictory to our knowledge. Financial psychology is the study of why we spend too much or don’t save enough. To improve our financial health, you need to improve your psychology. Most people have to learn about wealth as we go. The belief of money that comes from our parents can predict our financial outcome. We don’t get what we want, we get what we believe. You can find mentors that are already in your life. Most people aren’t motivated to save for a rainy day. In relationships, it’s helpful to have a sharing goal. Trying to save can be a lot like trying to diet. Your emotional part of your brain is what motivates you. Visual motivators are helpful, but you have to take action. Be specific in naming your accounts. Start saving AND paying off your debt simultaneously. “The truth about wealth is that it's evolving.” - Dr. Brad Klontz Show Notes: PatriceWashington.com/Listen

Pillar 5 WORK: Live Your Life's Purpose
13:20
Lack of fulfillment is the leading cause of financial mismanagement. You may think it's reserved to those who admit to emotional spending, but it even extends to those who don't know how to say "NO!" to those they love or even people they just hope will like them. If we are fulfilled in the areas we spend most of our time in, we reduce the desire to buy things solely to impress others or to shop in order to soothe our stress or to care what the heck other people think about where we live or what we drive. In part 5 of this 6-part series, Patrice breaks down how our purpose shape our priorities and prevent us from financial mismanagement. The work pillar is all about living out your life’s purpose in your career or entrepreneurial endeavor.

DeVon Franklin: Prayer Isn't Enough to Succeed
43:43
“Success has weight to it.” - DeVon Franklin Everyone wants to have wealth and success. The problem is we often look for it in the wrong place. We chase after money or we chase after the perfect opportunity, and we end up missing out on what’s really important. Wealth isn’t defined by money. The true definition of wealth is well being. Yes, money comes along with that but it’s only a small fraction. You have to take care of your soul, and the thing we overlook the most is taking care of our bodies. If you really want to be successful you need to work on all areas of yourself, don’t just chase the dollar. Work on your relationships, your passions, and yourself - the money will come. On this episode of redefining wealth we are joined by one of the most influential Christian under 40, and the man Oprah refers to as a “Bonafide Dynamo” - DeVon Franklin. We dive deep into what it takes to be successful on a physical and spiritual level and analyze not just what it looks like to be successful, but what it takes to become successful. Download this episode today to see how you can be enlightened and how to truly achieve the wealth you want. “The church didn’t teach me how to be successful, Hollywood did.” - DeVon Franklin The Cliff Notes: Never skip over opportunities. God orchestrates down to the finest detail. Don’t allow spirituality to be confined to the weekend. If you aren’t willing to commit everything you have 1,000% you won’t be successful. It’s not about chasing money, it’s about chasing purpose. The true definition of wealth is well being. It doesn’t how much you buy, physical items can’t fill your soul. We talk about the health of a spirit and mind, but not the health of our body. What good is money if you are just going to spend it on prescriptions? Don’t try to just do it, commit to the process of learning how to do it. Ego can be a career killer. Honor everyone, you never know who they are. When you devalue someone, you miss an opportunity. Integrity is kindness to everyone. The most valuable people in business are the gatekeepers. From the physical point there is 6 degrees in separation, in the spiritual world there is 0 degrees of separation. Let your passion dictate your research so you are prepared. Take your fears and turn it into a to do list. Failures aren’t setbacks, they are setups. Negotiating is about providing value, not money. Never be afraid to walk away from a negotiation. “Too often we look at someone’s tree of success, we don’t actually go and examine the roots.” - DeVon Franklin

In part 3 of this 6-part series, Patrice shares her thoughts on protecting every “space” in your life and how setting up your life to support you can make the difference. Pillar 2 PEOPLE: Relationships Matter Most
26:08
You don't have to chase money if you build quality relationships. More opportunities to make money or build wealth can come through word of mouth or having an advocate working on your behalf. Instead of fostering genuine and mutually beneficial relationships, we spend more time pretending to be busy and thinking we "don't have time" to take someone out for coffee or even call or text and say, "Hey, I'm thinking about you." In part 2 of this 6-part series, Patrice talks about “people” and creating relationships that matter. She shows that opportunities to create wealth don’t necessarily come from chasing money, but they might come from honoring the Golden Rule.

27:37
"Hustle and grind." "Sleep is for suckers." "I haven't slept in days." As a society we've been taught to proudly chase money by any means necessary. And many times it's to the detriment to our own body. The very vessel that's needed to execute this grand vision that we have for our lives. But why? In part 1 of this 6-part series on building true wealth, Patrice says being “fit,” is more than hitting the gym. It’s about becoming your best self and protecting the vessel needed to execute your vision.
