EP 285: Naked Life Story - Melissa
43:54

Growing up in Australia, Melissa had no idea how powerful alcohol was. Drinking first popped onto her radar screen around age 17 and she began partying the same way all her friends did - blacking out, getting sick, being hungover. It was what they did and no one questioned their behavior. Melissa loved the fun and always found people who wanted to drink. At 35, she decided to try moderating her drinking. A few years later she realized she was an “I’ve had too much, give me another” drinker who never intentionally refused a drink. It was time to change.

EP 284: Reader Question - How can I support a spouse who's trying to live alcohol free?
11:53

What can a wife to do support her husband who set a goal to stop drinking for a year, gave up alcohol for two months, and then she came home to find him drinking? Should she get angry? Give him tough love? Encourage him to keep trying? Leave him alone to wallow in his judgment and self-doubt?  Annie shares her thoughts on what exactly constitutes success and how we can take what we interpret as failure and use it to our advantage.

Right now, for the first time ever, I am doing something that I think you will find incredibly valuable and amazing. Here's the thing, I've been asking myself, why do some people effortlessly stop drinking while other people struggle? Why do some people who haven't drank in years still miss it, still feel like they're missing out, still even feel a little self-pity? Why can't I do that anymore? What's going on? What's the difference? The thing is these questions have kept me up at night and I have spent years now diving into the science, diving into literally hundreds of interviews and thousands and thousands of surveys of feedback from people trying to understand why. What makes it different? I think I finally really understand it. And I've put all of this together into something that I believe is one of the best things I've ever created.

It is a modular membership program that is coach-led so that people can find freedom faster. I read recently that the average time from when somebody recognizes a problem with alcohol to when they solve it can be up to 15 years. I know that I get thousands of emails with people saying, "Man, I'm so happy I found your work. My only regret is that I didn't find it sooner." So I wanted to put everything I've known so far, all of the research, all of the interviews, all of your experiences, all of the stories into this coach-led program that is truly customizable for you. So if you need it for a month and you find your freedom, great. But if you need to be with us for longer, that's also fine. Right now,  for a limited time, this program is at a massive discount just because I recognize what's going on with the world.

So if you are at all curious about this and you want to know more and you're ready to really make alcohol small and irrelevant in your life, once and for good to not only where you're not drinking, not stopping just at the behavior of drinking, but actually where it feels effortless not to drink. Where it feels easy, where you never feel like you're missing out, where you always actually feel like you're more joyful and happier. I know that's hard to believe, and it was for me too, but it's okay if you're skeptical. It works anyway. If you're curious about this at all, check it out, nakedmindpath.com. It's open right now. It's closing May 31st. So if you want to get in on this first-ever launch of this coach-led program, that is totally modular, that you can come and take as much time or as little time as you need to truly make alcohol small and irrelevant in your life, join me. nakedmindpath.com. I can't wait to see you there.

EP 283: Coaching Questions with Scott Pinyard
28:35

On today’s episode, This Naked Mind head coach Scott Pinyard dives into four terrific questions, some specific to not drinking during the COVID-19 pandemic - they are: The longer we stay home, the more intense my cravings become; what can I do to stray strong? I think I’m ready to quit drinking but with the pandemic am I just setting myself up to fail? I was 30 days alcohol free when we started quarantining and I caved when I got anxious; how can I turn my anger into motivation? I did the Live Alcohol Experiment but as soon as it ended I felt to pull to drink; how can I stay motivated beyond the 30 days?

Right now, for the first time ever, I am doing something that I think you will find incredibly valuable and amazing. Here's the thing, I've been asking myself, why do some people effortlessly stop drinking while other people struggle? EP 282: Reader Question - Are you really having more fun in life without drinking alcohol?
05:37

We hear it all the time. It must suck not to drink. Life must be so boring. But, did you know there is definitive evidence that removing alcohol does not strip away our ability to have fun? Did you know that it’s actually alcohol that steals the brain’s ability to have fun? Annie Grace explains.

Are you ready for a deep dive into truly lasting change? If so, you might consider my Intensive Program. It’s a 9-week, self-led program that you can do in the complete comfort of your own home. EP 281: Naked Life Story - Andrew S.
33:12

Andrew had his first sip of sherry at the age of three. He loved it. It wasn’t until he was nearing his forties in a job with a strong drinking culture where booze equaled camaraderie and a way to let off steam and ignore problems that Andrew began to question his drinking. He was a “happy drunk” but also found alcohol turning him into a person he didn’t like. Yet, he continued justifying his drinking by telling himself it could be worse. Now alcohol free, Andrew reminds himself he can drink if he wants to but chooses not to. He’s happy to be clear-headed and off the yo-yo alcohol diet.

Let me ask you a question. What is better than change? Lasting change, of course. If you've had trouble making change stick, either with alcohol or in any other area of your life, you are in for a treat. I created the 100 Days of Lasting Change to ensure that we don't just change for a moment, but we truly transform for a lifetime. This program is so close to my heart. Thousands of people have been through it, and their results are incredible. But don't take my word for it, check it out at thisnakedmind.com/100days

EP 280: Reader Question - Why Isn’t Everyone Addicted?
12:05

If alcohol is addictive, why doesn’t everyone become addicted to it? Who are these magical beings who can drink without becoming addicted? Or not drink at all? Is it genetic? Does it have something to do with their personality? Are some people just broken and others are not? And, what is the one thing we can point to when a relationship with alcohol pivots from being mostly in control to very much out of control?

EP 277: Naked Life Story - Meagan
38:49

After being introduced to alcohol by a babysitter before she was even a teenager, Meagan drank for more than 20 years. In college, she took pride in her ability to go out and drink all night while continuing to earn straight As, maintain scholarships, star in a play, and serve as a spokesperson for the Rain Forest Association. Meagan’s career took her from London to Paris and kept alcohol so big she once drank to prove to a boss that she wasn’t pregnant. Her mother introduced her to This Naked Mind, and Meagan finally got curious enough to make alcohol small.

EP 276: Reader Question - Why do I crave a drink when I'm calm and relaxed?
13:12

Why, when we feel calm and relaxed and comfortable and completely at ease, do we desire alcohol? We know we’re not stressed or anxious or upset, yet somehow we still want a drink. It doesn’t make sense. How do the cravings show up when we already have the feeling we will get from drinking? And, what can we do to make it stop? Annie Grace explains.

Let me ask you a question. What is better than change? Lasting change, of course. If you've had trouble making change stick, either with alcohol or in any other area of your life, you are in for a treat. EP 275: Naked Life Story - Amy
43:29

Growing up, Amy wasn’t sure where she belonged. She questioned her sexuality but also wanted to be faithful to God, to do and be all the things she “should” do and be. Amy felt she was different but chose to look the other way, finding comfort in the sense of belonging alcohol gave her. Alcohol helped her feel normal and socialize. But there was always that feeling something wasn’t right. She was losing herself, trying to “pray the gay away” and drinking more and more. It wasn’t until Amy began paying attention to her thoughts and beliefs about alcohol that she was able to begin the journey of finding herself, of moving past all the “shoulds” and loving herself for who she is.

EP 274: Reader Question - My biggest obstacle is that I love the taste of wine, I understand I acquired the taste but I still love it!?
09:54

Can our brains really unlearn something we spent so long teaching them? Why, when we know something is harming us and we need to remove it from our lives, do we pine over it for so long? On today’s episode, Annie Grace answers a question from Francesca whose biggest obstacle is her memory of how alcohol tastes. Francesca uses mindfulness to remember where one sip of wine will lead but asks, “Is that the only thing to do or is there another strategy that I can employ?"

EP 271: Naked Life Story - Marc
36:39

Marc spent decades in a career where he was told drinking was part of the process, that it was necessary for success. But when his alcohol consumption shifted from something reserved for sales events or weekends or vacations to a daily 4:00 p.m. craving to numb unhappiness and work stress, Marc began to experience poor sleep and painful hangovers. He was tired of beating himself up for letting himself down and not having enough willpower to moderate his drinking. The father of three knew it was time to change. Marc found This Naked Mind and took back control of his health and his desire to be a good role model for his kids.

Annie Grace not only explores alcohol’s effects on creativity but also breaks down a dynamic called temptation bundling.

12:54

On today’s episode, Joy asks, “When we’re celebrating and our brain is flooded with happy chemicals, why are we triggered to turn to alcohol, something that will dampen our experience?” It makes sense to use alcohol to numb, right? But, what is it that makes us want alcohol when things already feel so good? Annie Grace explains what’s going on in our brains when this happens and how we can make our brains unlearn old lessons and teach them new ones.

EP 260: Reader Question - Why does change feel impossible?
11:50

On today’s episode, a reader says, “I can’t even imagine changing. It seems impossible. I’ve been drinking for decades.” When we think about life without something, like alcohol, we’re actually telling our brain it’s even more important than we already think it is. But, what is it that really makes change feel so out of reach? Do we need to believe it’s possible before we even try? And, when does change start to feel possible? Annie Grace explores.

In today’s episode, Annie gives us some insight into ‘why’ we lie and ‘how’ to stop.
