Description

The Grey Rooms Podcast is an audio horror fiction podcast. A horror anthology of stories set within a single audio drama narrative, The Grey Rooms takes submissions from authors in the horror community and turns them into fully produced and immersive audio masterpieces. Our serialized story involves a protagonist named Samantha Winters who is stuck in a strange hotel with no means of escape. Each day she meets with a mysterious man in the hotel lobby who then assigns a room to her. When Samantha enters that room, she experiences the last moments of another person's life right before they die a painful death, only to awaken back at the hotel and start the process again the next day. Unfortunately, everyone dies at the end on this show, folks. It's scary stuff. And with over 450,000 downloads, the podcast continues to deliver on its promise since day one; 5-star quality scares in an immersive audio environment. Join us and Samantha Winters in Season 2 which began November 29th, 2019. A Grey Rooms Production ℗ 2020

The Grey Rooms Presents: The Dismal Dirge of JM Scherf

DISMAL DIRGE - S2BONUS4 - REFINE

We found some experimental pills lying around and now we can remember every single thing that has ever happened. It's quite a burden. Three of us had to drive home immediately to turn off our stoves and lock the doors... Thankfully, we have another bonus installment of The Dismal Dirge of JM Scherf that we totally didn't forget about. Enjoy it on repeat.

This musical track is entitled “Refine” and comes to us from S2BONUS4 - The Memory Chamber, written by S.J. Budd. JM Scherf totally recalls where he left his keys and wallet, then composes a song regarding the experience. A woman reminisces about her early motherhood, but the truth can be an ugly thing. Some memories are better left buried.

Behind the Door: Everyone's a Critic

Behind the Door - Season 2 Episode 11 - Everyone's a Critic

"It was only my journalistic ethics that kept me from telling him to go fuck himself and leaving right there and then..."

Welcome to another episode of Behind the Door, where we take a behind the scenes look into our story and chat with the author and actor who made it happen.

In this episode we are interviewing with Lachlan Watt, the expressive author of S2E11 "Everyone's a Critic". Also joining us is Kelly Nienaltowski, the actor playing the character of Miss Thomson. Join us in the lobby for hors d'oeuvres and opinions.

Featuring:

Lachlan Watt - Author

Kelly Nienaltowski - Actor

Jason Wilson - Executive Producer

Brooks Bigley - Host

Artwork by Cassie Pertiet

LACHLAN WATT

For more information on Lachlan Watt, follow him on Twitter at @LachlanJWatt

Lachlan Watt first joined The Grey Rooms with his sci-fi/horror story "Fix Me", a patron bonus episode from season 1 that was made available to listeners for free here, or just search for it in our podcast feed.

Lachlan is a writer and sometimes musician from Adelaide, South Australia. His fiction has been featured in Aphotic Realm magazine and elsewhere. He wrote a chapter of "He Has Stayed Too Long", the upcoming group novel edited by Don Gillette.

When he's not writing, Lachlan can be found enjoying a pint of stout at his local, or playing guitar in various scuzzy punk bands.

KELLY NIENALTOWSKI

For more information on Kelly Nienaltowski, visit her website at kellynienaltowski.com, follow her on Twitter at @KellyLynnNino, or like her Actor page on Facebook.

Kelly Nienaltowski recently wrote, produced, and starred in a short movie called Cupcake. A woman orders a decadent dessert only to find out the treat comes with more than just a thick layer of frosting... Also starring Mark Whitten in the flesh, better known as the voice behind Jake Stone from our season 2 narrative.

Kelly knew from an early age that she wanted to act, so finding a career in the industry came natural. Peruse her IMDB filmography for more evidence. She loves a good mystery story and her Netflix list is full of spy thrillers, criminal capers, or anything depicting characters both flawed and beautiful. Comedy is also the best medicine.

When she's not busy critiquing the artwork made by a madman, Kelly can be found watching The Dick Van Dyke Show and even has several episodes memorized.

S2E11 - EVERYONE'S A CRITIC

The words we put out to the world can follow us for the rest of our lives. Something said in the moment can have a permanent impact only felt years later. An art critic uses her words as an art form itself while an artist debuts the biggest exhibition of his career. The two have quite a few things to say to each other about art...

If life imitates art, what does death imitate? Let's just hope it sells well.

Behind the Door: Shadows and Teeth

Behind the Door - Season 2 Episode 9 - Shadows and Teeth

"We only needed one David in this house, anyway."

Welcome to another episode of Behind the Door, where we take a behind the scenes look into our story and chat with the author and actor who made it happen.

In this episode we are interviewing with Baylea Hart, the transformative author of S2E9 "Shadows and Teeth". Also joining us is Cassie Pertiet, our resident graphic artist who created the episode artwork for the story and also designed The Grey Rooms website. Leash laws are in effect while listening.

Featuring:

Baylea Hart - Author

Cassie Pertiet - Artist

Jason Wilson - Executive Producer

Brooks Bigley - Host

Artwork by Cassie Pertiet

For more information on Baylea Hart, visit her website at www.bayleahart.com, follow her on Twitter at @bayleahart, or like her Author page on Facebook.

Describing herself as an "IT Technician by day, horror writer by night and a reader everywhere in between", Baylea Hart wrote and directed a short horror film in 2013, won an award for a short story in 2015, and published several more stories before releasing her first novel, The Log House, in 2018.

The Log House is available in the UK in paperback or on Kindle: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Log-House-Baylea-Hart/dp/1911586467

The Log House is available in the USA in paperback or on Kindle: https://www.amazon.com/Log-House-Baylea-Hart-ebook/dp/B078RSNMR7

The Log House is available on Nook: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/log-house-baylea-hart/1129475071

Baylea appreciates slow burn horror and prefers a more subdued and steady approach instead of in-your-face scariness. When not reading books by Paul Tremblay, Andrew Michael Hurley, or other literary horror authors, Baylea can be found talking to the skull on her mantelpiece. Its name is Percy and it has a removable brain. Baylea says it was meant to be used for teaching... Sweet.

The Grey Rooms Presents: The Dismal Dirge of JM Scherf

DISMAL DIRGE - S2BONUS3 - RITUAL

The calm before the storm is happening right this moment. The warning signs have all been ignored. There is no turning back. You've allowed these tortured tunes to infect every facet of your life and you hear their screaming syncopation long after removing your earbuds...

Welcome to another sneak peek instrumental installment of The Dismal Dirge of JM Scherf. You've passed the point of no return. JM is approaching his final form and you cannot stop him.

Sure, the music seems catchy and upbeat in the beginning of the song and you can feel the rhythm as your head bobs up and down and your foot taps the ground. But, that's just a quick exercise to get your muscles limber....It makes the meat tender and allows your soul to separate easier. Please, keep on listening.

This musical track is entitled “Ritual” and comes to us from S2BONUS3 "Reunited", written by Dave Lasota. JM Scherf brings the whole family together for an otherworldly bonding experience. A man seeks redemption after a family tragedy. He certainly gets what he deserves. Blood is not always thicker than water.

The Dismal Dirge of JM Scherf - S2BONUS1 - "Passage"
04:09

The Grey Rooms Presents: The Dismal Dirge of JM Scherf

DISMAL DIRGE - S2BONUS1 - PASSAGE

You lay in bed trying desperately to fall back asleep. You hear the faint kick and roll of a drum and a click-clacking rhythm that instantly hypnotizes you. Your worst nightmares are about to get cozy in your head. Who needs sleep anyway?

And you can stop counting sheep. Those shadows dancing along the walls belong to something else entirely. Welcome to another instrumental installment of The Dismal Dirge of JM Scherf.

This musical track is entitled “Passage” and comes to us from S2BONUS1 "The Rivers". JM Scherf dons a robe and grabs the rudder with a bony hand as he steers the boat into oblivion. Some people will do anything to change habits or reach success. One man will cross time and space to change his own history. Make sure you bring correct change for the fare.

What makes a man? Is it his strength or maybe his integrity? Perhaps its that he is a good listener, or a born leader.  For this particular character in our story, it might have nothing to do with him.  Some people are judged because of the types of people their parents are.

Let's take a walk in the shoes of a man who is about to make a decision in the Wild West.  Everything that happens from that decision on...will not be based on his decisions alone.  They will be based on who he chose to resemble. Ma or Pa?

But take note...the choices made may mean life, or death.

Thank you so much for listening to the beginning of our second season! There has been a lot that has happened since "Everything Ends", well...ended.  There we were at the end of summer wrapping up breaks, and thinking about what Season 2 would bring, and Brian Black ended up having two strokes.  Things started to get dicey. I'm not going to lie.

But things suddenly took a turn for the better.  We know that we told you at one point that this November release was going to end up in January, but here we are on November 29th.  Jason's working the sound for the episodes, Brian's writing the scripts, voice actors and authors are being paid. It's like nothing happened at all.

That is The Grey Room's magic, friends. Please continue to listen and support this wonderful show.  Please keep in mind that our new and improved Behind the Door will be airing next Friday.  We looked at our reviews, and discovered that some didn't like what we were doing, so we changed it.  Brian and Jason will be in the show along with the author of Jailbird, Bo Chappell, and the lead voice actor, Mr. Graham Rowat.

Do you like what we've been doing so far? Please consider subscribing to our Patreon. Even just a dollar a month can help us reach our goals of world domination.

And lastly, we just want to say, "Thank you."  Thank you so much for your love and support. It really means a lot to us, and on the phone, on Discord, everywhere...we talk about how wonderful you all are, and how important it is for us to be our best for every episode, every sound effect, and every bit of music that you listen to.

Thank you.

We'll see you in a few weeks for Episode 2.

The Grey Rooms Presents: Room 630 - Sanctuary

INTRO

Some time ago Jason and I wanted to produce a story from an author that has never been published, never produced, or maybe hasn't even written a story before.  It was decided that we would take time out for each off season to release one of these stories, and today we are happy to do so.

This falls in line with the fact that some listeners tell us how inspired they are by the show, and that they are starting to write their own horror stories because of how embracing our community is to their brand of art.  You can probably imagine the feeling of pride, and the rush that this gives us.  We're so proud to be able to produce new works of audio horror, but also in being able to encourage others to do so.

This year we wanted to start with Christina Wilson. While it's clear that she has supported and sacrificed her share for our podcast, and also had a wonderful voice acting debut as Lucy in our first season, she never really considered herself a fiction writer.  Feeling inspired by the talented writers in our first season, she sat down and hammered out "Sanctuary," the story that you are about to enjoy.

Your first story is always something special.  It's also a very nervous experience.  Many of us still feel the anxiety of waiting to hear how people feel about the story.  It's these very real moments that strike us far more than any monster or evil deed that you might hear about in The Grey Rooms.

Why not take the time to reach out to Christina or any of our authors, really, and let them know what you think about their stories. The authors don't bite, and no doubt they love to hear your thoughts on their work.  And, for that matter, so do Jason and I.  Please don't forget to send us all a review or even hit us up on social media and let us know what you think.  We can't do this all without you.

Oh! And as for a story summary:

It's hard being a parent.  You always want to do the right thing, but the challenges are never what you'd expect.  One man's attempt at reaching his son, and creating something great reaches devastating results when he finds himself in...The Grey Rooms.

(These guys have done such a great job setting up the hype for our episodes, haven't they?)

Thank you all so much for listening to our season finale.  It has been both a wonderful experience, and privilege as we meticulously designed each and every episode for you.

We couldn't have done it without all of the wonderful authors that took a chance with us.  We told them our big ideas, and some of them probably didn't quite understand what we were going on about, but they entrusted us to do their stories right.  We're proud of your stories and we hope that you're proud of our efforts to dramatize them as well.

We couldn't have it without the wonderful voice talent that has brought the characters in these stories to life.  From parachute instructors to Teddy Bears,  from English soldiers to Russian priests, we have found such a wide variety of wonderful people to draw out the emotions of each story.  We are so happy that you chose to work with us, and make our show stand out.  We hope that this experience has brought you as much enjoyment as your work has for us.

We couldn't have done it without the music.  JM Scherf crafted our theme song, and then he started crafting the music for some of our episodes.  It's music that we have constantly heard stands out.  Thank you so much for dedicating the time and effort to composing the music for us, JM.  Especially the music required for the finale.  It's fantastic.

We couldn't have done it without our Behind the Door hosts. It started out with Graham Rowat and Brooks Bigley and went on to include people like Sarah Werner, Jon Grilz, Toni Miller, Bo Chappell, Augie Peterson, Dustin Schyler Yoak, Jesse Dedman, and Michael Rigg.  You all took a strange idea to have guest hosts interview everyone for a behind the scenes look of the show, and you knocked it out of the park.  Thank you for all of the wonderful conversations and topics that we were able to enjoy with your help.

We wouldn't have done it without our amazing artists.  We started out with Mediogre producing some of the early art and soon there was Cassie Pertiet coming up to the plate with her distinct vision of each anthology story.  Soon Brooks Bigley and Graham Rowat jumped into the mix and started crafting all of the ads on social media.  These are all such a wonderful and talented team of artists.  We hope that we have provided you a great challenge, and while it took us awhile to get the art to show up, we're so happy that you have given the audience such terrifying and wonderful candies for the eye.

We wouldn't have been able to do anything without our patrons.  We're handing you out keys, stickers, early access, and bonus episodes, but you are giving us so much more.  We're in your debt and everything from the Libsyn hosting, website, sound effects...it's happening because of your generous support.

And finally we wouldn't have been able to do it without you listeners.  You jump in every week and download our episodes and tell us how much you enjoy them.  You like our social media posts and tweets.  You recommend us constantly to other listeners looking for something new.  We love you.  All of you.  And we think about you all the time when we're considering things like new stories and whether or not we need to include disclaimers.  We really, really hope that you enjoyed this finale.  We did this for you.  And we're going to continue to do it for you.  Whether you are an author, an actor, a composer, an artist, a host, a patron, a listener, or even The Warden, at the end of the day, we want to tell a great story that is going to fulfill that urge to figure out what is going on.  We know the stories are dark and tragic.  We know that they can be incredibly gory or play on your phobias.  But...

We do this to you out of love.

So please subscribe if you haven't already.  Please tell the world about us.  Please continue to tell us how you feel about the show, and what sort of changes or suggestions you have for us.  We want to continue to grow and get better.  Help us to be better.  And, I feel like I haven't said this in awhile, help us to scare your pants off!

The Grey Rooms Presents:

The Raymond Logs: Prisoner 929-494 Tapes 1-12

INTRO

Bob has always been finishing each episode with the phrase, "Let the record show that Prisoner 929-494 chose door...", and you might have been wondering why.

As we prepare for the season finale next Friday, let's sit down and listen in on the twelve "Raymond logs" that have been recorded over the season.  These stories are a compilation of Raymond, Bob, and the backstories.  There are no anthology stories here.

There might be a few clues as to next week's episode however...listen in to find out.

NOTE: While we did add a few lines, this primarily serves as a refresher to better prepare you for the story to come.  You can now listen to Raymond narrate the events of the Grey Rooms in one sitting.  Is he who you thought he would be?  Do you still feel the same way about him? Let us know on social media and our Discord. We'd love to get your feelings and input!

Stay tuned for Friday, May 24th for the conclusion of The Grey Rooms Season 1 with the finale, "Everything Ends."

The Gardener

Ever wake up and discover that weeds have invaded your yard seemingly overnight? Did you ever wonder what sort of science / witchcraft was behind it?

Well why don't you grab a cold beer or a tall glass of lemonade and sit out in the sun for a spell while Manen Lyset spins a yarn about a farmer who searches out the answer to this very thing.

Of course there's a catch.  The farmer's in The Grey Rooms.  That's never a good thing.

This is it...

Thank you all so much for listening to our penultimate episode. We really hope you've enjoyed episodes 1-12 and we are all currently working hard on finishing up our season finale.  Brian Black lovingly calls Episode 13  "Grey Rooms: The Movie" and it is certainly earning that title.

It's huge.  Hugely huge.  We hope we can say that and still remain respectable adults.  But it's also true.  It's a giant who's who of voice talent that we've been using in every episode.  It's fully scored by JM Scherf.  It's got the longest Raymond and Bob story that we've done to date. It's full of all sorts of mysteries and dark secrets.  And it'll probably spoil Avengers: End Game if you let it (just kidding.)

We cannot wait for you to listen to this.  But due to the size of our movie length finale, we might also be a week late in what we normally promise as a bi-weekly podcast.  We've been so good at keeping up with our promises though that we have something else in store for you.

We decided to compile all of the Raymond and Bob intros together into one episode so that everyone can prepare themselves for what is to come.  If you don't feel like relistening to the intros, it's totally fine, and most likely won't hurt Bob's feelings.  At least we think it won't.  He's got layers.

Stay tuned for the compilation episode and the finale! We can't wait to end the season with a bang and we look forward to hearing your thoughts when we bring Episode 13 - Everything Ends to podcatchers everywhere.
