Episode Date
Living Without Expectation of Perfection - August 18
08:46

As we near the end of our week on forgiveness, today we’re going to look at a more foundational aspect of forgiveness, living without expectation of perfection. The goal today isn’t to adopt a pessimistic way of looking at the world around us, but to actually see others the way that God does. God isn’t surprised by our sin, but looks at us with eyes of hope and love. May we gain his perspective today, and the peace and joy that accompany it, as we spend time in his word and his presence.

Our Scripture for today comes from Romans 3:23, and today's worship is Out of Hiding by Steffany Gretzinger.

Forgive the Person, Not Their Actions - August 17
08:47

In today’s podcast, we continue our weeklong focus on forgiveness by looking at the idea of separating out our forgiveness of the person from their actions. It’s often our failure to do this separation that keeps us from engaging in the lifegiving command to forgive. But God has wisdom and revelation for us today as we look at his word, and freedom for our hearts today if we’ll engage with him in prayer.

Our Scripture for today comes from John 13:34, and today's worship is Met By Love by United Pursuit featuring Brandon Hampton and Michael Ketterer.

A Lifestyle of Continual Forgiveness - August 16
09:02

In the middle of this week on forgiveness, we’re taking time today to look at what it means to live a lifestyle of continual forgiveness. Over time, as we open our hearts and allow God to do a continued work in us, we’re equipped to develop a new normal, a new way of living. So today we’re looking at how we can live with a constant openness towards forgiveness, equipped to both receive it and offer it, that unforgiveness would no longer have space in our hearts.

Our Scripture for today comes from Ephesians 4:26-27, and today's worship is Kyrie Eleison by Vineyard Worship.

Today we continue our weeklong focus on forgiveness, by looking at the incredible gift of forgiveness we’ve been offered in Jesus. The Nature of Forgiveness is Mercy - August 13
09:03

Offering forgiveness to others is one of the most difficult and important aspects of the Christian life. But Scripture clearly commands us to forgive others. In this week of the First15 podcast, we’re going to look at how God longs to fashion us into his likeness that we might model the love we’ve been shown to a world with no concept of mercy. May you be filled with courage and boldness this to offer forgiveness to those in desperate need of grace. And may God’s love shine through as you enter into your calling as a minister of reconciliation.

Our Scripture for today comes from Luke 6:36-37, and today's worship is Mercy by Amanda Cook.

Being a Carrier of Joy - August 12
09:11

Today, in the last day of our week long focus on joy, we’re going to explore how we can be carriers for the joy of our God. Joy is contagious. It’s powerful. And it’s meant to be at the heart of our communication of who God is, and what relationship with him is like.

Our Scripture for today comes from Isaiah 55:12, and today's worship is Gravity by Jenn Johnson.

Inexpressible Joy - August 11
09:37

As we near the end of our week on joy, today we look at another aspect of the joy available to us in God, specifically how our joy could be so great that the Bible would call it inexpressible. May our hearts be opened to a greater measure of joy than we’ve yet experienced, and the wisdom and faith to hold on to that joy as our portion in God.

Our Scripture for today comes from 1 Peter 1:8-9, and today's worship is Isn’t He (This Jesus) by The Belonging Co. featuring Natalie Grant.

09:47

In today’s podcast we’re going to explore the role of the Holy Spirit in living with the joy available to us in God. Know that as a believer, the Holy Spirit is with you, ready to search the heart of God for you, and to give you this free gift of joy, if you’ll simply trust him and receive it. May your relationship with the Spirit deepen today, and yield a joy so real and strong that no trial or tribulation could come against it.

Joy in Every Circumstance - August 9
09:21

One of the hardest things to do in life is to live with joy in the midst of trials and challenges. It’s so easy to let life dictate to us our emotions and state of being. But in God, there is a joy available to us right where we are, no matter how good or bad the situation may be. Today we’re going to make space together to simply open our hearts and minds to receive the joy of the Father. I hope and pray that you find real, life-changing joy in God’s presence today.

Our Scripture for today comes from Psalm 126:5-6, and today's worship is Ever Be by Bethel Music featuring Kalley Heiligenthal.

The Fullness of Joy - August 8
09:03

In our third day of looking at Joy, we’re going to take time to look at David’s statement in Psalm 16:11, where he describes a “fullness of joy.” There is a greater fullness of life available to you and me in God that most of us will ever experience. Experiencing more of God almost always requires laying down more of the things of the world. But if we today will give a greater measure of our hearts over to God, we’ll find greater joy than we could have imagined experiencing this side of heaven.

Our Scripture for today comes from Psalm 16:11, and today's worship is Garments by Cory Asbury.

God is a Fun Father - August 5
09:51

God loves to exceed our expectations and break our boxes. Today’s topic does just that. As we end our week, today we’re exploring God’s attributes that make him a fun, joyful Father. Let’s allow God to reshape our notion of him and free our hearts up to enjoy just how good God really is. God Disciplines Us in Love - August 4
08:17

Discipline can be a tricky subject. Many of us have not seen discipline done well, and no one really loves being disciplined or having something they’ve done wrong pointed out. But something we must keep in mind with our heavenly Father is that he loves perfectly, so discipline must be a part of his perfect love. As we wrap up our week of looking at who God is, this is a crucial topic we have to look at to engage with all the ways God loves us.

Our Scripture for today comes from Hebrews 12:6, and today's worship is O Come To The Altar by Elevation Worship feat. Chris Brown.

God Encourages Us - August 3
08:11

As we continue our week on God being our Father, we look today at how God encourages us. There is nothing like an encouraging word from the Father when we’re feeling low and discouraged. Sometimes life can be daunting, and our good Father knows just what to say when we need to hear it most. If you’re feeling discouraged today, I pray the Lord speaks courage to your weary heart and strengthens your weary bones to keep running the race set before you.

Our Scripture for today comes from Psalm 27:14, and today's worship is Take Courage by Bethel Music featuring Kristene DiMarco.

God is Our Provider - August 2
09:15

In the kingdom of God, we find a culture different from that of our world. We are often taught to be self-made, pull ourselves up by our boot straps, and that it’s the survival of the fittest. God’s kingdom turns these principles on their head. We are encouraged to wait, trust, and receive from our God who supplies for our every need.

Our Scripture for today comes from Philippians 4:19, and today's worship is Provider by Urban Rescue.

God is Present - August 1
08:31

Many of us deal with a fear of abandonment, rejection, or loneliness, and often for good reason. The beautiful thing about our heavenly Father is that he is present in our lives, and we are never alone. As we continue our week looking at the ways God is good to us, open your heart today to the very tangible presence of your Father, even now in your midst. Allow truth to permeate the broken places and make you confident and whole in God’s ever-present love.

God is Patient - July 31
08:10

In our fallen state, patience isn’t something we find very often in ourselves or others. I don’t know if I know one person who has perfectly displayed patience for me, myself included. What’s incredible about our Father in heaven is that he is an endless well of patience. He has patience in abundance, and it never runs out for us. Today allow God to reorient the way you understand him and his heart towards you. He is slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, unlike anyone we’ve ever known.

Our Scripture for today comes from 2 Peter 3:9, and today's worship is Mercy by Amanda Cook.

God is a Loving Father - July 30
08:22

There is no better father than Creator God. He formed us and knows us. He provides for us, loves us unconditionally, and longs for real, life-giving relationship with us. He runs out to meet us in our sin, clothes us with new identity, and restores to us the abundant life he has always planned for us. As we spend time looking at the father heart of God, may a fresh revelation of his love for you guide you into greater depths of relationship with your heavenly Father.

The Depth of God’s Love for Us - July 29
08:37

As we end our week on Jesus’ High Priestly prayer, today we’ll dive into his desire for us to know the Father’s great love. Knowing the love of God for us is essential to healthy Christian living. God’s love is fundamental to our identity as his children and the sacrifice of Jesus. If we aren’t rooted and grounded in the unconditional love of God, we will be like untethered buoys being tossed about in the sea. It may seem elementary that God loves you, but I’d encourage you to open your heart afresh to this reality, that God could reveal his love to you in a real and new way today.

Our Scripture for today comes from 1 John 4:16, and today's worship is Met By Love by United Pursuit featuring Brandon Hampton and Michael Ketterer.

May your heart and mind be open to God’s truth and will for your life today as we seek him together.

The Truth of Sanctification - July 27
09:32

Today we continue our week on Jesus’ High Priestly prayer by exploring the topic of sanctification. What does it mean to be in the world but not of the world? What does sanctification look like played out in our lives practically? Often the concept of being sanctified is daunting and a bit intimidating. But today God wants to clear up our common misconceptions and help us enter this process with joy. Open your heart to the kindness of Jesus and allow him to give you rest.

The Authority of King Jesus - July 23
08:46

We have a great High Priest who constantly intercedes on our behalf. The Son of God and Man loves you more deeply than you can fathom. He prays for you, that you might walk in the abundant life his death affords you. And in John 17 we get a glimpse into the fullness of his desire for all those who would believe in him. Loving the Church - July 22
08:58

As we wrap up our week on loving people, we look today at how we can love the Church as God does. Jesus says we will be known by the way we love each other. Would people know you’re a Christian by the way you love your brothers and sisters? People are messy, it’s true. We all are. And yet Jesus saw our worth and loved us in the midst of our messiness. How can you mimic that same love today as you seek to love his Church? Today we’ll look at the perspective and affections of Jesus for his people. May our hearts and minds be transformed as a result.

Loving Strangers - July 21
08:31

As we near the end of our week on loving people, today we shift to loving those we don’t know. We are all so busy, and most often unaware of those around us, becoming too focused on ourselves to notice others. Perhaps today God would shift our focus upward to see the faces we pass on the streets or on the elevator. How much could a kind word or smile help someone out having a rough day? Let’s try to take our eyes off ourselves and see those we pass every day and don’t seem to notice. Could God want to use you to minster to someone you don’t even know? Let’s find out.

Our families have the potential to be our greatest place of influence. How might he use you today to minister for his goodness and glory?

Seeing Past the Brokenness - July 17
07:34

We are all broken people, living in a broken world. It’s that simple. Unfortunately, no one is exempt from the effects of sin. The good news for all of us is that Jesus steps into the midst of our brokenness, is near to us and makes us whole in his love. What’s even more amazing is God wants to use you to see past the broken exterior to the hearts of the people in your life. Brokenness can often make us hard, bitter and difficult to deal with. But we’ve been given the call to see past that hard exterior and love people in the midst of their pain.

Our Scripture for today comes from Psalm 34:18, and today's worship is Extravagant by Bethel Music featuring Steffany Gretzinger & Amanda Cook.

The Simplicity of Grace - July 15th
08:47

As we wrap up this week of simple Christianity, today we look at grace. Many of us are so hard on ourselves and struggle to allow ourselves to taste the grace the Father has for us. We look to earn love and acceptance in this world, but God’s way of grace couldn’t be more different from the world who tells us we are what we do. May today be a breath of fresh air as you encounter the grace of God that requires nothing in return.

Our Scripture for today comes from 1 Corinthians 15:10, and today's worship is Always Have by Vertical Worship featuring Jon Guerra.

The Simple Truth of Freedom - July 14th
08:35

As we near the end of our week on simple Christianity, we look today at the simple truth of our freedom in Christ. Our sin and bondage often feels like a convoluted web that entangles us. Satan would like nothing more than to keep us foggy and confused about the freedom and righteousness bought for us through the precious blood of Jesus. Today I’m praying that chains are broken in God’s presence. May we gain clarity and deep understanding of the freedom afforded to us as children of God. May we adopt the simple truth of our freedom and truly be set free.

Our Scripture for today comes from 2 Corinthians 3:17, and today's worship is So Much Grace by Jonathan & Melissa Helser.

As we continue our week exploring the simple principles of the Christian faith, today let’s look at what it means to love people. Love God: It’s All about Relationship - July 9th
09:32

This week we’re going to focus on the simplicity the Christian life is meant to be marked by. Jesus summed up our purpose with two statements: love God and love people. But in our humanity we have made complex what God designed to be peaceful, purposeful, and simple.

The simplicity which is in Christ is rarely found among us. If we would find God amid all the religious externals, we must first determine to find Him, and then proceed in the way of simplicity.” May we discover the peace and joy that come from pursuing a simple Christianity this week.

If we will take up the discipline of solitude, our lives will look very different.
