DEDICATED TO MY FREIND PETE WAGNER "Pete’s character and journey exemplify Cowboy grit, determination & perseverance. Everyone of us has challenges and obstacles in life and Pete's story will inspire you to keep pushing and never give up." (Funerals & Memorials) As many of you know, Pete passed away early in the morning on Friday, January 8th. Pete suffered a heart attack the previous weekend and underwent surgery, but sadly experienced a second heart attack that he was not able to recover from. He was comforted in the hospital by his daughter, Alysa, inhis last few days. Pete faced many obstacles throughout his life. He was diagnosed with diabetes during his childhood, periodically suffered blindness in one eye, paralysis in certain body parts, survived ventricular reconstruction, along with right ventricle, kidney, liver and pancreas transplants, rendered paraplegic and the amputation of his left leg. However, in spite of all the physical obstacles he faced, he continued to persevere. Always with positivity and kindness to others. Those that knew Pete, knew he had two loves. First his daughter, Alysa, who was his world. She was a miracle baby, who defied all odds, as doctors didn't believe Pete would be able to have children. Second, his love for everything country music, especially as a singer and songwriter. Pete was a genuine man and a true cowboy, both at heart and in real life. If you were fortunate enough to hear him sing, which many of us were, I'd like to imagine he left an imprint on your heart, as he did mine.  Pete was born August 10, 1971 in Omaha, NE. He was preceded in death by his father, Gregory Wagner and his mother, Sharon Bonacci. Survived by brother, Ross Lorello; sister Tamara Taylor; and daughter, Alysa Wagner.   Let's continue to celebrate Pete's life together. Please share your memories, pictures, and videos, so we can all remember and cherish the person he was.  If you knew Pete, you couldn't dispute how much he touched the lives of everyone around him. Now, it's our turn to give back and help Alysa as she deals with the loss of her father. We are raising money for memorial and funeral costs to assist his daughter as she deals with this loss. If you are financially able, please consider donating to this cause, no amount is too small. Resources: TEAM FUNDRAISER Mika Yonamine, Akin Yonamine, and Amanda Plantz are organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Alysa Wagner. *The above copy was taken from the Go-Fund Me Page. Episode 137 Sheriff Mark Lamb / God, Family, Freedom…..that pretty much says it all. Oh, and Guns…
It was an honor to have Arizona's Sheriff Lamb on the Podcast. The United States of America needs more leaders like him. Sheriff Mark Lamb was elected in 2016 as Pinal County's 24th Sheriff to lead Pinal County's finest with a vision to better the status of Law Enforcement in Pinal County, and ultimately be an example for other agencies in Arizona and the United States of America by doing the following: Foster positive working relationships with county officials Provide financial transparency to establish a realistic budget Improve deputy pay to retain and recruit quality employees Continue to crack down on criminal activity with a focus on stopping the drug flow into Pinal County Change the perception of Law Enforcement within our communities Lead by example "The safety of the people who live and do business in Pinal County is my highest priority. We are one of the fastest growing regions in the United States of America with approximately 450,000 residents in an area approximately the size of the State of Connecticut. While the county is not on the U.S. Mexico border, it is a pass-thru county and vulnerable to smuggling and trafficking activities that come from reservation territory that reaches from Mexico into Pinal County." Sheriff Lamb has proven his ability to work with local, State and Federal agencies to coordinate the necessary resources to fight these illegal activities that would harm our county and our communities.  "We've done a lot of good things, and will continue to find new ways to improve the safety of our county, making it an even more attractive place for good people and business to call their home. If you like what you see, I ask for your continued support and vote." - Sheriff Mark Lamb Resources: Show Sponsors: Show Music: “The Ropin Pen” By: Trent Willmon ( “Cowboy” By: Kolt Barber ( MC Podcast Production & Editing: Matt Kirschner (

Episode 136 Ben Longwell True West Horsemanship / A Colorado Cowboy In New Zealand…
I always enjoy talking with horseman and Bens story is one of a kind. Ben Longwell owns and operates True West Horsemanship, based most of the year in New Zealand. Ben grew up on the Western Slope of Colorado, riding horses and working cattle. After finishing school, he spent much of his time doing day work for different ranches in the area, learning from the experience of the ranchers. He also spent a year working as assistant trainer at a Quarter Horse breeder in Colorado, learning the basics of colt starting and true horsemanship. Much of the next six years was spent in the colt starting & horse training business and his knowledge and experience continued to expand. During this time Ben worked on a 300,000 acre cattle & horse ranch in Wyoming, where he was also involved in conducting horsemanship clinics and demonstrations. Adding to a lifetime of practical equine experience, he is influenced by the methods of such horsemen as Tom & Bill Dorrance, Ray Hunt, and Buck Brannaman and has ridden with Richard Caldwell, Jeff Sanders, Martin Black and Dave Weaver. In 2011, Ben and his wife Natalie moved to her native country of New Zealand and took the opportunity to build a horse training and clinic business.  Since then, Ben has been privileged to be a returning Clinician at NZ’s national horse expo seven different years. In 2014 Ben was invited to participate in New Zealand’s first Kaimanawa Stallion Challenge – where trainers were randomly given a Kaimanawa Stallion straight from the wild and competed in 2 stages of competition. Ben has appeared in and written for a number of Equine Magazines, both in New Zealand and internationally, as well as appearing in an episode of Masterclass on Country TV. He also has an Online Video Library that contains a wide range of instructional videos for advancing students’ skills and horsemanship regardless of discipline or breed. Episode 133 Giulia Tacchino Of “Tacchino Hats” Founded In 1862 / Hatter / Horse Lover / International Entrepreneur…
Really enjoyed talking with Giulia Tacchino, she is a young, talented & motivated international entrepreneur carrying on a 150 year old Family tradition. IN 1862 GIOVANNI TACCHINO, A YOUNG MAN OF COUNTRY ORIGINS, DECIDES TO LEAVE THE COUNTRYSIDE TO REALIZE HIS DREAM… Tacchino was officially born in 1862, thanks to Giovanni Tacchino, a young boy of poor origins who left his beloved rural home and moved to Alessandria, a small town in the North of Italy that is famous for hat manufacturing. He started working as a hatter, quickly developing great abilities in creating felt hats, and after a couple of years he decided to launch his own business together with his wife. It all started with two shop windows in the city center and a steam table in front of our workshop. That is where Giovanni began to believe in his entrepreneurial dream and where our story originated. Today, 150 years after it all began, thanks to the ability of four generations of dedicated hatters, Tacchino has developed this business all around the world, maintaining ancient manufacturing quality standards. Tacchino takes care of hat lovers, guaranteeing the exclusive "Made in Italy" label for all of its collections. Episode 131 Monte Alkire / Team Roper / Author / Cowboy…
Really enjoyed my conversation with Monte on the Podcast. He is an inspiration to everyone to pursue their dreams... It's never too late! Born and raised in southern Michigan on a small farm. Married my high school sweetheart Harriet while in college. We have a son, two daughters, six grand children and 6 great grandchildren. Graduated from Michigan State University in 1964 with a BS in Agricultural Engineering and a commission in the U.S. Army. Served approximately 2 years active duty in the Corps of Engineers including 13 months in Vietnam; discharged as a 1 st Lieutenant. Started work at Caterpillar Tractor Co. as a research engineer in 1964. Worked innumerous jobs over 33 years in assignments involving research, new product development and testing, manufacturing, quality improvement and human resource development. Retired in 1997. With the military experience and work at Caterpillar I have lived in 6 states and 2 foreign countries. I have always loved horses and bought my first, a Welsh pony, when I was five. My love of the cowboy life and ways has been lifelong. My father was born in Adams Co. North Dakota where my Grandfather and Great Grandfather had homesteaded. I believe this is the seed for my western roots. Riding and developing ranch and roping horses is still still provides great pleasure. I always wanted to learn to rope… for as far back as I can remember, and always fooled around with one at home. In 1993 I had the opportunity to partner on some Corriente cattle and still enjoy raising them; we have a herd registered with the North American Corriente Assn. In 1995 I had the opportunity to attend my first roping clinic. It was fantastic. Since then I have been able to profit from help from so many generous professionals. Beyond my family, horses, roping and Corriente cattle have been the focus of my retirement. Since 1997 we have been able to spend a good portion of every winter in Wickenburg, Arizona. My wife loves the desert, exploring and walking daily, and I have all the great opportunities to rope there and ride on the desert. My struggle associated with learning to rope, coupled with my experience in quality improvement led me to write “Rope Your Dream”. This experience has led me to so many wonderful people and so much satisfaction in my retirement. Through this all my wife and family have provided wonderful support and encouragement; and God has blessed me with the health and resources for this incredible enjoyment. Episode 127 Craig Johnson / Certified Master Dog Trainer / “The Dog Dude”…
Had a great time on the Podcast catching up with great friend Craig Johnson - Certified Master Dog Trainer aka "The Dog Dude"  I am a 1993 graduate from National K9 located in Columbus Ohio. I received a certificate in basic and advanced obedience, Scent discrimination, police k9 and personal protection, specializing in transformation of your dog's unwanted behaviors.     I have worked with clients from all walks of life. From individual puppy parents to large families. As well as professional athletes to pioneer and icons in the beauty industry. But I have come to realize that my clients all seem to have a few things In common: they share a deep love, commitment and passion to create a relationship with their dog that they have always dreamt of having. Together we can turn those dreams into reality .    When you work with me you will have a personal coach that can guide You and Your Puppy/Dog into a balanced canine.    From the time I was able to walk, I had a deep interest and curiosity of animals in general and even more specifically Dogs .     I have been doing in home lessons for the past 27 years, which I have found works amazing because your dog is on their home turf- so that gives me a chance to see their true colors.    I do some group classes now and again which I love because it gives people a chance to bring their dogs together in a social setting.    I like nothing more than to see people’s relationship with their Dog blossom into the partnership or bond that most can only dream of achieving !!!  Resources: Show Sponsors: / @thecowlot / @canyoncoolers / @its.jerky Show Music: “The Ropin Pen” By: Trent Willmon ( “Cowboy” By: Kolt Barber ( MC Podcast Production & Editing: Matt Kirschner (

Episode 126 Mark Kent / Patriot / Host At Sovereign Minds Radio…
Great conversation with a true Patriot & my personal tax expert, Mark Kent owner North State Consultants. As told by Mark: Born in Yreka California, my family moved to Running Springs in Southern California till fourth grade, and from there we moved all over the state of California because of my Fathers work with Cal Trans. I have lived in every part of the state at one time of another.  I went to five different high schools Burlingame high, Hanford high, Yreka High, Happy Camp High and Graduated from Peninsula High in San Mateo. Went on to some college at CSM but most of what I have in education has come from hard fought battles in the real world, not academia.  I have been self Employed since I was seven years old. My first business was a worm farm. I went on to other various business, paper routes, played accordion in a Italian restaurant , projectionist in a movie theater, Pool service company, Licensed Timber Harvester, along with other logging related activities. I build split rail fences and sold wood by the cord. I was also employed by various government agencies included CDF as Timber Faller, USFS Fighting Fire, US Army as a Power Diesel Generation Mechanic, and the public works Department at the City of San Mateo.  I Started a Marble and Tile Delivery Service in the Bay Area in the early 80’s where I studied Law. Yes you heard that correct while driving delivery and being in the truck most of each day, instead of listen to music , I listened to Law and Taxation courses from various colleges including Cornell and Loyola just to name a few. So while driving delivery I listened and studied under America’s Greatest Law Professors. I referred to that old 1972 Chevy truck as my university on wheels or Commute U.   Somewhere in this time frame my Son was diagnosed with cancer and I had almost a million dollars in medical expenses that I had no idea how I was going to pay. So I started a tax preparation and consulting business, while also working for and tutoring under some very experience businessmen.  I have been very lucky to have had some amazing mentors and associates. Olympic weightlifter\tax Consultant, a Tax Attorney, Professional Baseball Player, Sales experts, Data analysts, all highly trained and motivated people. The best mentors I could find in their respective fields of expertise. They all contributed to my success in many different ways. I have completed so many courses on Law and Taxation it would be redundant to list them. So I like to say I went to the University of Hard knocks and earned a Degree in Results. I have been practicing in the field of Taxation for about thirty years now specializing in small business tax strategies. I also specialize in trouble shooting any problems concerning engagements with the IRS including but not limited to audits, collection, record keeping, entity selection and implementation. I have also been involved with, and helped set up and run several Not for profit corporations and associations. I currently host talk radio show on KCNR 1460 a local am station.    Resources: ( ( ( () (Exclusive Premiere of ‘Targeting U.S.’ - Sekulow Ep. 543 pt. 1 - American Center for Law and Justice) Former FBI Agent Peter Strzok’s notes reveal the Obama Administration’s plot to take down President Trump and General Flynn. Episode 122 Josh Ward “All Grit & No Quit” This Cowboy Can…
Had a great time on the podcast with Josh... super down to earth, amazing artist, 100% legit Cowboy. “All grit and no quit.” These are the deeply rooted words that Josh Ward lives by to an absolute fault.  An anchored mindset that has led this Texas country music rising star from a drifter’s adolescence to the jeopardous game of the rodeo circuit to the punishing toil of the Texas oil fields, and on into the fickle arms of the music business. Some might argue whether it is having nine consecutive #1 hit singles in Texas under his belt that has garnered him staying power, or that he is killing it in the social media world with over 2 million views on YouTube and over 3 million streams globally on Spotify. Maybe it’s his 3 venerated album releases, or maybe because he can not only bat a full house on a 200 plus dates a year touring average, but also rope in crowds on a first time performance in an unfamiliar town. While impressive, all those distinctions can come and go in the world of music. The reason for his staying power turns out to be quite a simple one. And that is because Josh Ward is country music blood to bone, and both Josh Ward and country music are simply not going to go away. Josh spent 2017 heavily touring off the strength of his previous album “Holding Me Together.” All six radio singles hit the #1 spot on the Texas Regional Radio Chart and Ward quickly found himself going from opening act to the headlining spot in a matter of months. But in the midst of his growing popularity, he gladly bent the knee to fellow country music artist and comrade Cody Johnson who introduced Ward to his West Coast audiences. Getting the chance to be endorsed by Cody Johnson and perform at sold out shows in brand new markets is the kind of opportunity music artists chomp at the bit to have. When Ward and his band returned to those areas a few months later all by their lonesome, he simply could not have guessed at the reception he would encounter. “When we went back to the West Coast by ourselves, it was sold out shows. I was literally blown away.” It was at that very point while far away from his familiar stomping grounds in Texas with new fans slapping him on the back that Ward knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that his music was catching on in a big way.  The culmination of his radio success and his victories out on the road can easily be attributed to the actual man behind the music. In life, sometimes a person gets dealt a lean hand and has to choose his family from strangers along the way, people who make a conscious choice to take you under their wing and help guide you through life. Ward considers himself a very lucky man despite some rough teenage years. The love and support of his extended family and his chosen family was the concrete foundation he built his life on, and his fans are a big part of that. It’s why they are drawn to him through the speakers, because he is what he sings. It’s why they are drawn to him from the stage, because he’s an old friend who’s come back to visit. He’s the animated truth of all he stands for, a self-made family man who always has a welcome smile and an open spot in the family. To his loyal fans he feels he owes everything. “Words can’t describe the emotion that gets put into these runs and the work that we do. And these people pay their hard earned money to see it every night. Thank you. Episode 117 Wacey Barta / “Where They Buck” …
Great conversation with Wacey Barta Founder of "Where They Buck" he is one cool Cowboy & Bad Ass Bull Rider. was founded in 2011 by professional bull rider and entrepreneur Wacey Barta. The idea for this bull riding and roughstock network had been on the drawing board for some time but just never had the time invested in it to bring it to its beginning. After severely breaking his leg in a bull riding wreck and being immobile for several months, the time was finally available and here we are today. The idea of creating this network came to Barta after becoming the “go to guy”, so to speak, around his area for people looking for bull riding and rodeo news, information, contacts and so on. After realizing that there was no legitimate source for this news and information locally as well as a lack of a complete rider, fan and contract personal network nationally, the idea to create the best bull riding and roughstock network for all aspects surrounding the sport and industry came to light and was born. Barta, a third generation bull rider, originally from Nebraska, lived in several places across the country before coming to Arizona fifteen years ago due to his father’s military career stationing his family in Ft. Huachuca, AZ. Although his father, grandfather and several uncles all competed in rodeo growing up, a lack of junior rodeo events or organizations in his previous areas of residence kept him from being able to start riding bulls until moving to Arizona. A few short months after moving to Arizona, with his dad having already scoped out where to go practice and get started, Wacey began riding bulls at the age of 15. After learning the ropes and competing in Junior, High School and amateur rodeos in Arizona, Barta went to both Western Texas College in Snyder, TX and Central Arizona College in Casa Grande, AZ on a rodeo scholarship and competed in college rodeo while going to a handful of P.B.R and P.R.C.A. events on the side. Ten years later, although competing mostly part time, Barta has qualified for the P.R.C.A. Turquoise Circuit Finals ten times as of 2011 and fortunately enough, been able to taste at least some success at all levels he has competed in. Several serious injuries have definitely plagued his bull riding career as he has suffered a shattered face with reconstructive surgery, four broken wrist with surgeries, broken and dislocated shoulder, broken collarbone and most recently, a compound fractured tibia and fibula with major surgery to repair, just to name a few.Over the years, Wacey has been fortunate enough to be involved with and gain knowledge and experience on several different levels of bull riding and rodeo from competition to judging, production, marketing, sponsor acquisition as well as administrative experience. During one of his several extended breaks due to injury, after judging at numerous events throughout the Southwest, Barta began judging for the P.B.R. at the Touring Pro level and judged P.B.R. events, A.B.B.I. events including derbies, futurities, and classic events at the Built Ford Tough series level and the Touring Pro level. Wacey has been a Turquoise Circuit bull riding director for six years as well as on the P.R.C.A. Turquoise Circuit board of directors for the last two years. This experience, along with extensive experience with sponsor acquisition, marketing and sales and event production as well as founding and managing his own, as well as other peoples businesses outside of rodeo, have combined with his knowledge as a competitor and fan to help form the content and framework for the network to build the most complete bull riding and rough stock network for fans, competitors, contractors, contract personal, advertisers and corporate partnerships that there has ever been. Episode 116 Tommy Hawks / Southwest Missouri’s Original Axe House...
Really enjoyed my conversation with Tom Jennings the Founder & Owner of Tommyhawks. Tom retired from 20 years of Active Duty in the U.S. Army in 2015 and moved to Ozark with his wife Kacey. While working his day job, Tom decided to start a garage-based LLC called TommyHawks, building custom tomahawks for the military, law-enforcement, and the general enthusiast. Drawing on an extensive background in Army Special Operations, Tom infused the TommyHawks brand with all things kick-axe, and is extremely excited to run Southwest Missouri's first indoor axe-throwing venue. Come out and kick some axe with Tom! Axe throwing is about as historical of a pastime as you can get. From the first waves of Northmen to the American Frontier - tomahawks, axes, and hatchets were an "EDC" (every day carry) item of those eras. Even those awe-inspiring warriors would get bored. So what do you think they did? Threw axes around for practice, competition, and yes - even FUN! Today, we like to think of it as upholding a tradition. The tradition of warriors - Vikings, Rangers, Cheftains alike. Here at TommyHawks, we use one of the oldest tools in human history to bring people together for fun and competition. You can come out and unleash your inner competitor and warrior -or simply have a good time throwing hawks around! TommyHawks opened its doors in 2017 as a builder of custom tomahawks. Moving into 2018, we will bring our awesome new sport, and kick-axe new brand to Southwest Missouri. Come be a part of the axe throwing revolution!  Resources: ( ( ( Show Music: “The Ropin Pen” By: Trent Willmon ( “Cowboy” By: Kolt Barber ( MC Podcast Production & Editing: Matt Kirschner (

Episode 114 Glenn Orms Owner of The Cow Lot / “You can tell by lookin’, it came from the Cow Lot”…
I had a great time talking with Glenn Orms owner of "The Cow Lot" & I'm sure you will find the history behind it as amazing I as did. In 1952, Nat Fleming, a young, North Texas Bootmaker, Rodeo Announcer, and entrepreneur, in Wichita Falls, Texas, had a dream. (The Cow Lot) was where essential work was done on the ranch, where cowboys worked their cattle. Nat dreamed of providing the cowboys who worked there with two must-have tools of their trade, a good hat and a pair of boots that “FIT”. That dream manifested into an all-out Western retail store, the Cow Lot. A 54-year body of work began, dedicated to Service, Quality, Honesty & Integrity…i.e. the Western Way of Life and How You Wear It. To enter the doors of the Cow Lot was to enter Nat’s dream. The scene emulated the American West and its way of doing business. Product quality was second only to the integrity of the personalized service. Each salesperson was an actual cowboy, passionate to serve you, their guest. Whether you were the President of the bank or the bank held the mortgage on your property, you were treated like you were the King of the Cowboys, or the Queen of the Cowgirls, as the case might be. Art was created before your very eyes by one of Nat’s hired cowhands posing as a salesperson. Hats were shaped to best serve your lifestyle and personality. Boots were fitted. Fit was guaranteed. Prices were affordable. Customer satisfaction was the order of the day. Together with his longtime friend Gene O’Brien, and later my father Dewey Orms, they built the Cow Lot into one of the finest Western Stores in North Texas, winning several awards including the Wendy Ryon Western Retailer of the Year. Nat met his life partner and wife, Tawana, at the store when she happened in for a new pair of Levis. The likes of legendary Larry McMurtry, author of Lonesome Dove, whose family ranched in the nearby town of Archer City, Texas, would stop and have a cup of coffee and visit and maybe buy a new pair of boots or a new hat. Nat was a pioneer in TV and Radio. In the early ’50s The Nat Fleming Show was one of the first on local TV providing 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. A big deal then because TV was only on 3 hours a day. He started broadcasting a weekly Saturday morning radio show from the store, The Nat Fleming Horn Honkin’ Show. When he saw a car drive by he would ask, ‘Honk your horn if you are listening .” 90% of the time the driver would honk and wave. The store grew and so did Nat’s inventory. Boot sizes ran from AAA widths to D. Fit was of utmost importance. Nat believed, ‘If you have to have a license to cut hair, you should have to have one to sell shoes.” People came from all over the United States to buy boots that “Fit”, the same was true with hats. Longtime Cow Lot general manager, JR Gahagan, shaped and fit most of the cowboys who were shooting the then popular and now famous Marlboro Man advertisements on a nearby ranch. Growing up in the Cow Lot, I was officially hired on in my Junior year of High School, where my skills in the art of boot fitting and hat shaping were fine-tuned. Just as importantly, I advanced my education in Nat’s University of Down Home Business, majoring in Homespun Philosophy and graduated with degrees in Service, Quality, Honesty & Integrity. After 54 years of service to his customers, Nat closed the doors to the great retail icon of North Texas and retired to work the real Cow Lot at his ranch in Byers, TX, where he was born and raised. He passed away in 2018 at the age of 96 leaving behind his wife Tawanna and his son Marty, who still run their cattle operation. In 2013 I found myself presented with an opportunity to re-open the Cow Lot. With Nat’s blessing, I took on the Cow Lot brand and created a hybrid version….an event based retail (Western Hat) store, the focus being on the hand shaping of quality name brand hats....

Randy Bloomer is one very cool Modern Cowboy. An entrepreneur he founded & built the "Bloomer Trailers" empire, survived a plane crash and hunted dangerous game in Africa. Really enjoyed talking with Randy a very down to earth and humble man. We started Bloomer Trailers in 1998 in the middle of chemical alley on the LaMarque/Texas City line. By hiring the best and most experienced key people in the industry it allowed us to hit the ground running and start on the path of achieving the goals that have been our benchmark. Our goals were to build every trailer with the best components money could buy and build the components that we could do better than what was available. The key word we used was every component. By 2000 we had hit our stride and already had introduced many new components the horse trailer industry had never done. We have never stopped challenging ourselves to find a better or safer way to protect our customers and their livestock. That is where our slogan of the “blinders are off” came from. When we named our newest model The Evolution it was to remind ourselves that we have yet to build the perfect trailer, so keep working on ideas. In 2002 Bloomer Trailers started building a state of the art production facility in Central Texas to serve as a convenient location for dealers, customers and our vendors. Upon completion in 2003 Bloomer moved over forty employees and their families to Central Texas to continue the craftsmanship that was expected and desired by the Bloomer Trailers customers. We feel to describe Bloomer Trailers is by photo collections through the years… and we would like to say to our customers, dealers and employees… you are the best! The Bloomer Lifestyle! In 2003 Bloomer Trailers built a state of the art production facility in Salado, Texas to serve as a convenient location for dealers, customers and their vendors. Episode 112 Ben Christensen Is “Living His Own Western”…
Ben Christensen is a western lifestyle photographer. In his work, Ben aims to capture the simplicity of the American West and everything that comes with it. This often means drawing on the sentiment depicted in the classic 60s and 70s western films Ben grew up with. He says that living his own western, and doing so as authentically as possible, is both the personal and professional goal. “I woke up one morning and thought, why wait for Hollywood to make a western like they used to when I know exactly what needs to be done?” So, with a decade of production experience under his belt, Ben started in on his first western film endeavor. Christensen’s The Valley is a short that introduces the classic western to the modern world, and places it front and center for an impending revival of the American West. I started this journey of scratching on some silver in December of 2009. Coming from a ranching & agriculture background, everyone knows you have to have 25 ways to make an income should you ever find yourself without permanent employment, or just needing a little spendin’ money. Thus started my “hobby” of silversmithing. Now here I am, closing in on almost 10 years of this “hobby” and it’s taken me places I never imagined I would go. God’s kinda funny that way huh? “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;” Philippians 1:6 God has definitely blessed this business and taken it, and me personally, farther than my wildest imagination. Episode 093 Amanda Kimes Founder, Kimes Ranch Jeans. Superior Fit. Classic style. Western Uncomplicated…
Join me and Amanda Kimes as we discuss what it takes to build a brand. The Brand With a dream to create THE JEAN that was missing from the western world, Matt and Amanda sourced every element of their production-finding the best team of cutters, sewers, and washers until their product was undeniably the best fit and quality.  They created a jean versatile enough to crossover from western to everyday wear, with a medium waist line for women that allowed high enough coverage while riding but low enough rise to mimic a fashionable street jean. Their men’s jean took on details that others had not considered, like a knife pocket and a more attractive back pocket placement. Mission We are the western wear leaders of quality in style, product and service. Vision We intend to bring Western back to its roots by creating fashionable jeans with a classic feel. We are leading the trend by taking our fashion industry background and blending it with our western roots to make western fashion current. We are where the fashion world meets the western world. We are western wear that transcends. Value Proposition Superior Fit. Classic style. Western Uncomplicated. Western the way it was. Where jeans were a timeless staple and simplicity and durability made them the cowboy’s must- have.  Kimes Ranch has made function and fit a priority, making our classic jean a standout necessity for all cowboys and girls.  We provide the canvas for your unique western style. Episode 078 Kolt Barber Nashville Recording Artist & His New Single “Cowboy”…
KOLT BARBER is just a good, ole boy—plain and simple. He’s a hard-working, hands-on Georgia native who’ll be the first to say he’s endured bumps and bruises from life mistakes; but with a cowboy spirit that runs deep, the maverick has the tenacity to get back on the horse. He’s a devout patron of the land whose favorite canvas is painted from a front porch swing view that gazes across the crop fields and grazing horses. Marrying his passion for the land with his love for music, Kolt has spent years writing and performing before heartland country music fans. His dedication to his fellow blue-collar crop growers and livestock wranglers, and his country music following, make him a standout in both fields. With the grit of toughened leather and a gentle man’s demeanor, Kolt Barber is a true country purist. The rugged, loyal man with a mysterious aura, untamed spirit and innocent charm feels as much at home roaming the pastures on his ranch by day as he does setting fire to the stage with an electric performance each night. Playing nearly 70 shows a year, he’s shared the stage with numerous country music legends, including Travis Tritt, John Anderson, Tanya Tucker and has sat across the dining table swapping jokes and exchanging wisdoms with Waylon Jennings—one of his biggest influences (in line with Haggard, Cash, Vern Gosdin and The Eagles). When it comes down to it, the laid-back, real time cowboy is as honest as the day is long. Before a crowd of 40,000 or 400, Kolt Barber does not disappoint. His deep, rich, baritone voice captivates with the drop of every heartfelt note; his dynamic stage show is a must-see attraction. With gumption to give it his all, Kolt Barber delivers a performance as exciting as an 8-second ride. Episode 076 The 10th Annual Navy SEAL Danny Dietz Memorial Classic (USTRC Affiliate) and Bar-B-Q Cook Off / May 24-27, 2019 in Rosenberg, Texas at The Fort Bend County Fairgrounds…
A LETTER FROM PATSY DIETZ-SHIPLEY I want to personally thank everyone for being interested in learning more about our fundraiser and our mission. My name is Patsy; I am the surviving spouse of Danny Dietz, a Navy SEAL that was killed on June 28th, 2005 during Operation RedWings. The loss of a loved one has a great impact on someone’s life, but even more so when they are taken from you when you never expected it.  Danny and I had just bought a new house, had our two dogs, and dreamed to grow old and have children…that all changed by a knock on my door that delivered the news that my husband was killed in Action. Being part of the SEAL community, you know there is a certain danger that your loved one must face…you know that country comes first…. and there is a chance that you will not see him one day…. but nothing prepares you for that. I decided after Danny’s loss to turn that pain and sorrow into something positive that reflected his character of loyalty and strength, by being there for the community that he loved and respected, the SEAL community. I started getting involved with the NAVY SEAL FOUNDATION, the foundation that primarily takes care of this community. They were the first ones to come to my door after the tragedy and continue to help me and many other families that have lost their warriors fighting for our FREEDOM. In 2009, Mr. Dan Quinlan was present during one of my guest appearances where I spoke about Danny and after the event he reached out asking if he could help bring more awareness on Danny’s story, his Teammates and the NAVY SEAL FOUNDATION.  He came up with the idea of doing a fundraiser every year in Texas that donates 100% of the proceeds to the foundation by doing a Memorial Roping where you would combine the two worlds of the “All American cowboy and Teamwork” with the “All American Warrior and No Quit mentality”. Every year the event is getting bigger and bigger and it’s thanks to all of you that come out and support our cause to help the SEAL community and remember not only Danny, but all the men that have died on June 28th, and all the men in the Navy SEAL community that have sacrificed so much. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and hope to thank you myself one day. Episode 074 Tom Heshion Founder Of Equine and Wines & A Team Of World Renowned Experts Are Building A One-Of-Kind Community Minutes From Tombstone, AZ…
Tom Heshion Founder of Equine and Wines and a team of world renowned experts, are building one-of-a-kind community just minutes from Tombstone, Arizona. Tom has had an exciting career in entrepreneurship as well as horsemanship. He developed the vision behind Equine and Wines. As an owner and manager of 29 horses, Tom swears that he is not addicted to horses, but admits he is addicted to the therapy they have provided him during his stressful years in executive management. Like most serial entrepreneur’s, Tom started his first company with his $5,000.00 savings. By age 22, that company had grown to over to over 13 million in revenue. After 10 years of success, wanting a career change that reflected his love of horses, he purchased 2 PVC fence distributorships and started National Fence Company. He chose that name, not knowing at the time that it would expand into an international enterprise. After the sale of that company to Sears in 1996, he was hired by Auto-by-Tel as the Midwest Regional Director, then, promoted to President and was instrumental in the launch of the first ever, successful, IPO for a Dot-Com company. That IPO evaluation was in excess of $500,000,000.00. The company was noted for boldly purchasing the first NFL Superbowl ad for a Dot-Com company. Unlike most of the other dot-com start-ups, is still in business today. NASDAQ (ABTL) By the late 1990’s, Tom realized where his abilities were best suited; Tom went into the Venture Capital business where he oversaw numerous investments for the firm. One of the ventures led to him taking a position as the CEO of Recreational Technologies, a failing technology company. Tom changed the direction of the company when he envisioned their current technology being used as a broadcast tool. He assembled the team to build out his plan, and raised the capital. That is the strike-zone and pitch placement technology now used repeatedly in the broadcasting of professional baseball, instant replay. Today, Tom is still in love with his high school sweetheart Cindy, and oversees trust fund investments in the medical, technology, organic farming, and equine industries. Episode 073 Chris Petersen, Is The “Diehard Cowboy”, Both Traditional & Modern…
Join me and Chris for a fascinating look into his life on the cusp of the release of his album and his undying passion for  Cowboy tradition and the modern cowboy lifestyle. For 2019 Chris is set to release a highly anticipated new album. Chris teamed up with Nashville producer, Trent Willmon, who will be producing the album. Chris wrote or co-wrote 11 of the 12 songs to be included on the album and Willmon co-wrote 8 of the 12 songs.  As a songwriter Trent has written many songs that have been cut by other notable artists including Brad Paisley, Eric Church, Little Big Town, Cody Johnson, Blake Shelton, Maddie and Tae, Merle Haggard, Wade Hayes, Randy Houser, Kevin Fowler, Granger Smith, Roger Creager, and many more. Trent also is credited with the Billboard top 5 hit “Keep on Lovin’ You” by Steel Magnolia, and Montgomery Gentry’s #1 hit “Back When I Knew it All.” As a producer Trent has truly shined and is credited in large part for the rise of Nashville’s newest sensation, Cody Johnson. Cody’s Album, “Ain’t Nothin’ to It”, also produced by Willmon reached the #1 spot on the Billboard Country Charts in 2019. Chris was raised in a small town in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Here he developed a love for horses, and everything about the cowboy lifestyle. He was drawn to the old cowboys around town who took him under their wing and taught him about horses. Chris built a love of starting colts and building confidence in young horses. By combining his love for horses and a love for art and photography, Chris started Diehard Cowboy–A company built to share the cowboy lifestyle and his authentic music with others. Chris spends as much time as he can riding horses and starting colts. Chris also works for several ranches to get a reprieve from his regular schedule. You can take a glimpse in this life by following. @Diehardcowboy_ Chris got somewhat of a late start into his music career. Earlier in life the fear of singing in front of other people kept him from getting on stage. Even though Chris never sang in public until he was in college, music was always present. Chris would often write songs while driving, or riding his horses, but singing would only happen around his close friends. Friends soon began to encourage him to sing more and to share his songs. Eventually Chris started writing and recording the songs that he had written but they were only heard by those in his inner circle. A turning point came when Country Musician, Collin Raye, heard a burnt CD of a few of Chris’ songs. Collin asked if Chris would be willing to open an upcoming concert for him. The night of the concert came and Chris faced his fear, took the stage, and sang to a hometown crowd. This was a moment that changed Chris’ life. After encouragement from Collin Raye, Chris set his sights on pursuing his career as a songwriter and performer. It took a lot of  work to overcome his fear. Chris spent a full year singing once a week at a local venue with his guitar before he finally felt he could play for a crowd. Eventually Chris was playing for larger audiences in shows across the country. He played during the Houston Rodeo at NRG park,  and even packed his guitar to Missouri. In 2017 Chris was selected as a finalist at the Kerrville Songwriting Competition in, Kerrville, Texas. Many past finalists had gone on to become notable performers  like, Steve Earl, Tom Russel, Robert Earl Keen, Lyle Lovett, Hal Ketchum, and Zane Williams. Chris has always been a big supporter of the men and women who serve our country and communities. He has written two songs in their honor. “Every Time I Hear the Rain” as well as “He Still Pays the Price.” As a musician Chris sticks to his country roots. He loves playing traditional country music with influences like George Strait, Merle Haggard, and Chris Ledoux. These influences are also reflected in Chris’ writing. Chris writes songs that are authentic and true to his character. His...

Join me and Christy Burleson as we discuss her photography career over the past 25 years. Christy says, “I would have to say that photography is my passion, but along with photography, I also am a licensed hair stylist and make-up artist. So one of my favorite things to do is make people up and photograph them to create and capture their inner and outer beauty. Everyone has something beautiful about them, their smile, their eyes, their personality, but the fact is sometimes they just don’t see themselves the way I do. I shoot all different kinds of people, genres, and locations. This is why it is so great when I have people hire me to photograph their, clothing lines, engagement shoots, weddings, families, ranches, etc. from all over the world. I just love it! Along with my passion for photography is my passion for horses and travel. As a horsewoman, this allows me to capture horses the way the owners would want them to be remembered, And has allowed me to travel all over to special events and amazing locations. When it comes to weddings my team of photographers, is my family. My Husband Ty, my son Austin, and my daughter Brandy. We all have our own style, but I am proud to say that we all have the ability to capture a great memory. My motto in life is to be positive and look ahead, appreciate every day and see the beauty in all people, things, and the world around us! I love the fact that I have photographed the weddings of some of the people I have photographed as children! And I think it’s awesome when people call me “their” photographer. It really makes me feel special, because I know that I have captured their lives in photographs, the way they want to be seen and remember. On that note, I would like to thank everyone that has hired me to capture and create memories in their lives.” Thank you ALL!! Episode 048 Sarah Jo, Owner & Founder of The Coyote Cowgirl, Vintage WesternClothing with a dash of Punchy, plus some Gypsy in the mix…
Join me as I talk with Sarah Jo, owner and founder of The Coyote Cowgirl. “I grew up in a small town raising buffalo with my family. I was around the rodeo and ranching lifestyle, but the fashion is what caught my eye. I’m a lover of all things old school- especially western. My biggest dream was to become a fashion designer, but the one that emphasizes the old west in the designs. My general attire is square toe ostrich boots and a whole lot of turquoise. Simplicity is best in my fashion mind, except when turquoise is being worn. I love everything about the western world, and strive to keep its style alive. God is my number one man and my life goal to be the best light of Christ I can be. My business prays over decisions, works hard with proof from the callouses on my teams hands, and listens to 90’s country in the shop.” The Coyote Cowgirl clothing line is all about vintage western, a dash of punchy, plus some gypsy in the mix. We strive to keep our families old buffalo ranch tradition alive in the designs! TCC is based on Christian hearts, hard working hands, and a love for the old Wild West. We promise honest and true designs to remember the ole west, and to bring the light of Christianity to the world. Episode 044 Darby Hinton made his acting debut at the age of 6 months old in the arms of Jayne Mansfield…
DARBY HINTON is a native of Los Angeles. He was born in Santa Monica, California. He made his acting debut at the age of 6 months old in the arms of Jayne Mansfield in the TV show “Playhouse 90”. He went on to appear in numerous features and television shows, until the day his mother dropped him off at Twentieth Century Fox, (dressed in knee high socks and a lederhosen), to audition for a role in “The Sound Of Music”. Darby got lost and wandered into the wrong line of kids, by the time his mother found him he had turned in his lederhosen for a coon skin cap, and ended up playing Fess Parker’s son “Israel Boone” on the “Daniel Boone Show” for the next six years. While in recent years it seems to be in vogue for child actors to talk about their early acting years as ones of pain and abuse, Darby looks back on his life with fun and excitement. “It gave me the opportunity to travel the world and meet some of the most interesting people in it”. In fact Darby likes to travel so much that after finishing high school in Lugano Switzerland, he took three academic around-the-world voyages aboard the S.S. Universe. He went on to study under Jacque & Philippe Cousteau and almost gave up his acting career to become a marine biologist, however, once you start a career in Jayne Mansfield arms it is hard to give up that kind of work. Besides acting gave Darby the kind of freedom that he loved to explore his other passions like flying, skydiving, and martial arts. After meeting Bruce Lee, who at the time was playing Kato on the ‘Green Hornet’ series, Darby got very interested in martial Arts. He traveled to Hong Kong to see where Bruce first studied. He even got the opportunity to study under William Chung The World’s Grand Master of Wing Chung and the man who taught Bruce. He then spent a couple of years playing “Ian Griffith”, the probation officer that turned into the Salem rapist, on “Days Of Our Lives” The most recent chapter in Darby’s life revolves around human development. After meeting and working with the master of motivation, Tony Robbins, Darby realized his life’s work as an actor had been trying to figure out why people do what they do. He eventually became a master trainer for Tony Robbins taking a number of years off doing seminars all around the US including Hawaii and even in Fiji. Darby then sought out other Masters in the world of human development to study with, like Wayne Dryer, Julia Cameron, and Jim Rohn. Darby has been a proud member of the ‘SAG/AFTRA Young Performers Committee’, an active member of ‘A Minor Consideration’ and on the Advisory Committee to ‘Looking Ahead’. All geared to helping the creative youth of today experience the best of life while helping them avoid the pitfalls that have plagued young artists of the past and present. Still, acting is what Darby loves to do. For a much more complete list of his current project check out and be on the look out for him in ‘Bill Tilghman and The Outlaws’ opening in February. Josh Olschewski, owner and maker at 7/o Brand. I have a passion for cowboy and buckaroo heritage and creating quality gear that lasts. Growing up on a ranch in Herriman, Utah, I started building tack at a very young age making gear for myself and my family. At the age of 16, I started working at a saddle shop where I strengthened my leather skills, building ground seats, tooling, and building saddles from the tree up. Over the years I have learned and worked in other trades including ranch day working and construction, but at at 21, I began building saddles, tack, chaps and chinks full time in my own leather shop. I have a passion for good working gear and buckaroo heritage. Everything we make has functionality and durability in mind; our gear is made for the working cowboy and buckaroo. Saddles and tack are a tool; one that needs to function, fit correctly and last. That is why I pay attention to the details and build saddles and tack the traditional way. My saddles are built with an all leather ground seat and I sit in every saddle to ensure correct shaping. I know each saddle inside and out. I spend hours meticulously shaping each piece. I put my whole heart into every piece of tack or working gear. It is bittersweet when the day comes to ship the saddle or piece of tack to customers, but I am proud knowing that the piece will serve each person for many years to come as a tool of their trade. The ought seven brand is one that is close to my heart. The brand represents the seven male members of my family. The brand (and company) is deeply rooted in family christian values. Every piece we make and the business operations are built with these values in mind. About the Brand The family brand of the 7/o is a symbol of a strong American family founded deeply on faith in God and the Freedoms and Liberties our country was founded on, We stand behind it as the representation of our bond with our customers. Episode 029 Joe Braman fifth- generation Texan, Family Man, Cowboy, Entrepreneur, Conservationist, Public Servant & Philanthropist …
Joseph W. Braman, the son of Daniel and Mary Braman, is a fifth- generation Texan who grew up with his two brothers on a working cattle ranch in Refugio, Texas. With a family history steeped in oil & gas, ranching, and real estate, Joe gained an inherent understanding of family’s businesses, while he simultaneously cultivated a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Joe’s affinity for the outdoors resulted in a deep understanding of animals. At a very early age, Joe started to work at training dogs, the start of a talent that he would cultivate and develop throughout his life. Raised around cattle and horses, Joe gained an affinity for competitive roping, which he translated into becoming an eight-time qualifier of the Texas circuit finals in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Mary O’Connor Braman, Joe grandmother, was quick to recognize Joe’s culinary skills, and personally spent countless hours in the kitchen with Joe, helping to develop his natural talent. Joe attended culinary school, refining his skills and becoming a master chef. Joe learned to pair wine with food, and translated this talent into the start of Braman Winery in 2010. Growth of the winery led to the creation of a brewery a few years later, which today produces a full line of beer under the Running Walker label. Known in wide circles for his lifelong work training hounds, Joe was contacted by the Jaguar Conservation Fund to potentially help their efforts in saving the species. Jaguars had been dwindling in population for many years, and were in serious danger of losing their remaining habitats to human reclamation of certain areas. Joe’s strategy was to immerse himself in the jaguar’s habitat, to learn where they roamed, and what resources they needed preserved. In 2010, Joe spent three weeks in the jungles of Mexico, mapping the best corridors for safe jaguar habitats. Along with his hounds and his team, Joe successfully tagged and released 6 jaguars into the protected, natural environment corridors. This work has provided immeasurable scientific data that will allow further study on the preservation of this incredible creature. Joe undertook similar efforts with the wild quail population. Understanding the fragility of that species, Joe worked with a noted biologist to quadruple the wild quail population in Zapata, Texas, by controlling the quail’s primary predators. Most recently, Joe was asked to help evaluate the use of dogs as a potential solution to the rhino-poaching epidemic in South Africa. After a month-long evaluation trip in early 2017, Joe spent a year and a half training dogs in Texas, specifically suited for the anti-poaching mission. In mid-2018, Joe deployed to South Africa with several of his specially- trained hounds, where they demonstrated unparalleled success in saving rhinos. So successful was the initial trial, Joe was asked to help develop a formal curriculum for training both dogs and dog handlers for anti-poaching missions, so that the program could be expanded. Joe has been an active law enforcement officer for more than two decades. He continues to investigate ways in which his passion for dog training can assist in other conservation endeavors, and he continues to spend his time and efforts finding ways in which he can help others. Joe resides in Refugio, Texas with his family. Resources: Follow Joe ( ( Show Music: “The Ropin Pen” (Live) by: Trent Willmon ( MC Podcast Production & Editing:  Matt Kirschner (

It affords me the opportunity to constantly learn and improve my horsemanship skills and also grow as an individual. Horses are truly remarkable in the way they are and what they are capable of. I’m trying to get these horses interested in what we are trying to do, and this is easier said than done because first we must understand what the horse needs. My goal is to have these horses soft, relaxed, and searching. I feel that if I can get these things working there isn’t much you can’t do with a horse. As far as my goals for the future, I will continue to see how good I can get at communicating my ideas to both people and horses of which I believe there is almost no limit. This idea I have of being as good as I can is very important for me. I feel that to be truly as good as possible at something, you have to explore yourself. You need to find the way you can do it best because no two people are exactly the same, so it would surely impede my success to try and mirror someone else and not use who I am to the best of my ability. With this said, it does not mean that I don’t look for people much wiser than me to help me along my path as I also plan on going to yearly clinics hosted by trainers such as Joe Wolter, Buck Brannaman, and Bryan Neubert. Truly, I’m after a lot more with horses than I can explain via written word and I would be more than happy to talk about it. Episode 020 Chelsey Stimson is the artist and owner of American Feathers. She is a Navy Veteran and surviving spouse of SO1 Tyler Stimson, a Navy SEAL and former Marine….
Chelsey Stimson is the artist and owner of American Feathers. She is a Navy Veteran and surviving spouse of SO1 Tyler Stimson, a Navy SEAL and former Marine. The Story Behind the Feather… Tyler was killed in 2010 in an accident at home after several deployments and years of service. The life we built together centered around that service, ended unexpectedly that day. The care and thoughtfulness I received in the days following his passing not only helped me get through each day, but they changed my heart. I was so grateful to have the support of friends and strangers. It helped immensely to be surrounded by love at time where I felt so lost and alone. The smallest acts, a smile from a stranger or a call from a friend, meant the most to me at a time when I felt so empty. I knew somehow I would find a way to forward that kindness on into the world and honor Tyler in my own way. I also learned to never underestimate the power of small acts of kindness. The day I painted the first American Flag Feather I was just expressing myself. I’ve always found peace and healing in various forms of art and American Flags have become a focus for me over the years after Tyler’s passing. Receiving the flag at his funeral at Arlington National Cemetery I remember it felt like it was the last bit I was given of him that I could hold onto and I held on to it desperately that day. Perhaps it really all started there. When I look at these feathers, I see a culmination of memories and emotions beginning with the day I decided to join the Navy, to September 11th, to the first day of boot camp when I first met Tyler, not knowing he would be my future husband. They are infused with my memories of his days during BUD/S, to our first duty stations, to our wedding, to the many deployments and months, likely years in total, of long distance separation. They represent the service and sacrifice of those that are close to me. They also represent the stories of service and sacrifice of those I don’t know. Lastly, American Feathers represent my appreciation and gratitude for all of the above. When you see an American Feather, please know they mean all these things and more to me. I am sure many see their own stories, loved ones and memories, which I love to hear. That is what sharing art is all about. These Feathers have made their way across the country before ever being discovered recently on a larger scale. They have landed in the homes of Veterans, Gold Star Families and Patriots. They are each as unique as each story of service and sacrifice. So you see, I didn’t just sit down one day and paint a feather. American Feathers had been in the process of creation over many years before they were fully expressed as they are today. Thank you all for your support and interest in American Feathers. I look forward to sharing them and more of their story with you all. Episode 018 Navy Seals launch Skateboard Co… I was honored to have the opportunity to talk with these amazing men about the founding of TRIBE SK8Z and their mission….
TRIBE SK8Z is made up of three (Dj,Joey,Cole)partners that come from very diverse backgrounds. Two of the partners are military vets and the other is a renowned tattoo artist and graphic designer. TRIBE SK8Z started from a birthday gift about 6 years ago. Cole was in San Diego and stumbled on a company doing Laser Engraving on skateboards. It was right around Djs birthday so he had them make a board with his Teams Symbol, he’s had it hanging in his office ever since. With Dj’s military career coming to an end, searching for an outlet and trying to figure out what he was going to do with his next chapter in life, the hanging Skateboard in his office shined brighter than ever. In that instance TRIBE SK8Z was born. With no outside capital and an idea, Dj reached out to Joey and they started collaborating on Dj’s vision of skateboards and skateboard wall hanging art. Like many of the greats, Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, Bill Bowerman, Phil Knight, Paul Allen, and Bill Gates, TRIBE SK8Z started June 2018 in Djs garage. Two boards were completed in early June for a fundraiser in Texas, shortly after the board images flew across multiple social media platforms gaining a lot of traction and momentum. Joey and Cole ran into each other a week later at a retirement ceremony and said Cole really needed to talk to Dj about getting TRIBE SK8Z going. With Coles background of starting companies and having great mentors they all sat down and went over the infrastructure that needed to be created to make this a functional, successful, legal company. Over the next week they filed with the IRS, Virginia for Articles of Incorporation, formed an operating agreement, bank accounts, PayPal, quickbooks, delegated duties, and started a game plan for weekly, quarterly, seasonal, fiscal goals and need to haves. They developed pricing structures, terms and conditions, explored in-house and contracted production options, time tables on product production to customer, and how to cut current production costs and time while maintaining quality products made in the USA. TRIBE SK8Z Currently: Roughly two months into it their products have reached California, Arizona, Texas, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Virginia. They have donated products for auctions and fundraisers. They have done custom pieces for Gold Star Families, different military/ Government units, breweries, and other companies. Dj is the CEO/President of the company but has taken on Product Production and RDTE with the boards (coating, finishing, aging, branding, or inlays he exploring all options). Joey is the VP of product design, he continuously puts in the hours for new stock images, custom one offs, and anniversary designs. Cole is the COO/CFO/VP of Product Launch and Company Growth. They’ve had great mentoring from some of Nikes top Vice Presidents, Apples VP of Product Launch, and VP of Marketing for BuzzFeed. None of the owners have the formal education that most have in these positions but no one can compete with their work ethic, worldly experiences/travels, networks, and morals. They are currently working with multiple customers on licensing and with an American music band for their tour next year. Episode 017 Building a Brand… What’s Working Today In Digital Marketing…with Gabi Jaffee living her dream, on the road in her van with her dog “wrecks”…
The Rodeo Wrecks Story 5 years ago, I was taking pictures at several bar bull ridings in Arizona while pursuing my Journalism degree at ASU for extra money when I had a crazy idea. Everyone loved to see the wreck pictures I took, but nobody ever bought them. That night, I started a Bull Riding Wrecks Instagram page, which later turned into Rodeo Wrecks. What began as a page to showcase (my own photography) has since grown to a following of more than 270,000 people. Wrecks are sent in from all over the world and include all the events in rodeo. I drew the logo myself and have developed the #WreckedGear clothing line as a way to #RepTheBrand. Thanks for being a part of the #RodeoWrecksNation and Keep On Wreckin’! All our love and gratitude, Gabi & Wrecks Resources: ( ( Show Music: “The Ropin Pen” (Live) by: Trent Willmon (

Episode 015 Join me as I talk about the world of Cowboy Hats with Cody Harrison and his passion as a hatter at Smithbilt Hats in Calgary Alberta…
Cody Harrison from Longview Alberta has a passion for making Cowboy Hats that and his enthusiasm and love of what he does shines through in this episode. Cody is a “Hatter” at Smithbilt Hats a company with a long history and tradition in Canada. Smithbilt has made hats for some of the most epic western films, music artists and dignitaries.  Initially Smithbilt produced mostly dress hats with small brims, styles that flourished in the East and in Europe. In 1926, however Morris began a co-operative effort with local businessmen and the Stampede Board to promote western wear for spectators as well as partisans in the Calgary Stampede. The Stampede was providing a focus for local manufacturers who responded by developing products of western style. Increasingly, Smithbilt made Western hats a specialty, and in 1946 Morris created the first white cowboy hat. He was very proud of the White Smithbilt, and indeed this small contribution to the Canadian identity became a symbol of the Stampede and of Calgary. The White Smithbilt, proudly worn by local officials, was traditionally presented to visiting dignitaries and Royal guests. It is now known throughout North America and the rest of the world. As the years passed, the company continued to improve its products and reputation. The company’s ownership passed to Morris’s son Judah and then on to the long-term employee Marshall Harvey. In 2003, the Harvey family passed the Smithbilt torch to a family friend. Today, the company is owned & operated by Cam Clark; a proud supporter of the Calgary Stampede. Dedicated to the preservation of western heritage values and traditions, he is committed to moving the legendary Smithbilt name forward with an emphasis on quality and service. Episode 010 Rasp Designs is The Original Rasp Jewelry Company. Rasp Designs not only creates custom rasp jewelry, but also creates rasp accessories and rasp riding hardware…
Rasp Designs is The Original Rasp Jewelry Company. Rasp Designs not only creates custom rasp jewelry, but also creates rasp accessories and rasp riding hardware. Our designs are for both women and men, hand crafted from a horse shoeing rasp (farriers file) that was used while shoeing horses. Each piece is truly unique and carries with it the history of blacksmith work along with the essence of each horse the rasp was used upon. The husband and wife team, Bryan and Melanie Martineau, design and hand make each piece together with their blacksmith and design talents along with their influences of rodeo, ranching and western lifestyle upbringings.  They reside in the North Scottsdale/Rio Verde area of Arizona with their three daughters, all under the age of five. Raised in Corvallis, MT, Bryan began horseshoeing and training horses at the age of 13 and continues these lines of work.  Bryan competed in saddle bronc riding and team roping.  Each rasp Bryan uses when shoeing horses is then turned into the rasp jewelry, accessories and riding hardware.  He is currently retired from saddle bronc riding along the rodeo trail and enjoys team roping and golf when he has time off work. Melanie was raised north of Santa Fe, NM on a horse ranch. She grew up being involved with rodeo, horse showing, and horse racing. She moved to Arizona to attend college at Arizona State University where she graduated in design, urban planning and construction management.  Melanie manages the marketing, sales, customer service, accounting, events, website and social media for Rasp Designs. She enjoys running, hiking, golf and time with her kids and family. How We Got Started: Seven years ago we started making jewelry out of farrier rasps for family and clients for gifts and thank you’s. Melanie’s Grandpa was one of the main reasons and inspirations we ever came up with the Rasp jewelry. Our family and friends got the word out about our jewelry/spurs within the rodeo, ranching, farming and equestrian communities. After the first three years we decided to turn our hobby into a legit business in 2015. That year we also took a leap of faith, overcoming many obstacles, including expecting our third child, and became a vendor at South Point during the NFR and World Series of Team Roping Championships. This is our fourth year of operating Rasp Designs as a business and being a vendor at large shows like the NFR. Since 2015, our business has more than tripled and Bryan has been able to cut his horse shoeing business down by 70%, which allows for more freedom schedule wise and more time at home with family/kids. Our Products: Jewelry: Cuff Bracelets, Bangle Bracelets, Pendants, Necklaces, Bolos, Earrings, Rings Accessories: Money Clips, Buckles Riding Hardware: Spurs, Spur Strap Buckles, Headstall Buckles, Back Cinch Buckles, Conchos Golf Tools: Golf Ball Mark Repair Tools (Divot Repair Tool), Ball Markers

Episode 006 Cowboy Surf Shop has been a leading force in Northern California since the early 70’s. Founded by Craig”Cowboy”Mac Arthur ….
Cowboy Surf Shop has been a leading force in Northern California since the early 70’s. Founded by Craig”Cowboy”Mac Arthur as Miramar Surf Boards in 1971 in it’s original location, the shop was mainly a showroom for the surfboards that Craig shaped and glassed, as well as serving as Half Moon Bay’s first surf shop. Many years have been spent learning and perfecting the trade of surfboard production, as well as other ventures including the opening of the retail store Cowboy Surf Shop in 1982. Craig also teamed with friend Chip Rowland, and Bob Hurley in 1984 to work as Northern California Sales Rep for the then start up surf line Billabong. His duties consisted of building the Northwestern territory for Billabong, and managing the Northern California Billabong Surf Team. Craig recruited local talent from his territory which consisted of surfers like Daryl “Flea” Virotsgo, brother Troy, Nate & Zach Acker, Richard & Dave Schmidt, Vince Collier, Adam Repogle, and many more. Other duties stemmed from teaming up with Billabong’s pro surfers like “Sunny Garcia”  and “Doogle Walker”when surfing in local contests like the O’Neill Coldwater Classic, or going on photo shoots to distant locations for surfing magazines with other pro surfers. Craig’s sales reputation soon earned him jobs with other prominent companies like Rusty Presendorfer who was just getting his clothing line going, and soon hired Craig as his Northern California Sales Rep. Utilizing Craigs relationship with stores & shops, Rusty was a shoe-in with his line of  T ‘Shirts and Stickers, and was soon on his way to liable recognition in Northern California . Craig was also hired as Sales Rep for Billabongs sister like company Peak Wetsuits, headed out by John “The Butcher” Howitt, the Aussie wetsuit entrepreneur who later went on to start Quiksilver Wetsuits. It was about four and a half years into his sale repping career when Craig was recruited by the local Surf / Rock Band Bug. Led by Singer Web Fingers, and Bassist Bubba Luv, Craig was the newest member playing Lead Guitar. (Stage Name “Dude Broman”). See Bug click on image below After several years of hard work, recording, rehearsing, playing gigs, and Frat Parties, Bug had worked it’s way up the local circuit to the point of being a major player on the Bay Area music scene. Bug had found a home at the Cactus Club in San Jose where their hard core followers packed the venue night after night, headlining, and also playing support for acts like Primus. Mary’s Danish, The Vandals, Urban Dance Squad, and Mojo Nixon, (just to name a few). Bug also won the the” Bay Area Battle of the Bands” contest, and played to thousands of people at the Oakland Collesieum, as well as plying every major venue in the San Francisco Bay Area. Bug was well on their way to stardom, local rock magazines were revue them almost weekly, and one went as far as saying that “Bug was going to be the next bay area rock band after Primus to go over the top”. The press did not go unnoticed, and local recording studio mogul Joel Jaffe from  Studio D in Sausalito had picked up on the buzz, and invited the band to come down to the lavish studio to record a 3 song demo that he would shop to some of his record label connections. Things were going great with repping, and playing in the band. Craig started to date one of the Bug dancers, Lucy Turner, who soon became a cult fav as Hippi Bitch, a character in one of the bands popular songs.
