Partial Credit Endgame - PC028
58:11

Jennifer Cronk joins the Partial Avengers for a discussion about the best superhero teachers!

Students who are skilled in the educational uses of technology are more prepared to meet the demands of the 21st Century. It is imperative that technology education does not happen separately from academic curricula, but interweaves it and becomes a visible and implied component. When used correctly, technology will bring the conversation beyond the classroom walls into a more dynamic global forum.

Ideally, technology becomes a medium by which students become reflective learners who gain invaluable experience by publishing for a real audience. Technology in its best use supports and strengthens pedagogy. A student in today's world is not simply watching their "digital footprints", they are actively engaged in positive personal branding.

Superhero Draft:

Donnie - Superman (admin)
Jenn - T’Challa (admin)
Jeff - Luke Cage (teacher)
Jesse - Professor X (admin)
Jesse - Professor Hulk (teacher)

We recap April Fools Day in the classroom, we share what we’ve been reading, seeing, listening to, and… why not, let’s talk about feedback in education.

April Fools Recap

Hear - TED Radio Hour - Confronting Racism Brittany Cooper (time as a racial construct - White)

See - The Case Against Adnan Syed (Serial) HBO (Jesse)

Read - Nathan Pyle’s Strange Planet - Strange Human Behavior (from other planets) (Donnie)

Waiting for him to do a classroom one.

What role does “feedback” play in your classroom or your school? How should we give and receive feedback? How much, and how often, and using what instrument? How fearlessly candid should we be? And, most importantly, how can we help each person thrive and excel?

First off, we're pleased to announce our partnership with StrongbadMusic, Vandaley Industries, and Hawgit Edu: three real and totally not made up game-changers in the world of music, pop-culture, and education. You should check them out.

In this week's episode, we also have a few HUGE announcements we'd like to make to the world*:

  • 'Teachers'' are called that because they teach students.
  • The Harry Potter books get their name from their main character whose name is ''Harry Potter''.
  • Tom Waits is the name of a musician, not a patient man named Tom.
  • There are more people alive now than when there were fewer people.
  • The Edge is not actually an edge, but a three-dimensional human being.
  • The page number in a book denotes the number of the page you are on.
  • Comic book vigilante batman gets his name from being a man who dresses like a bat.
  • Taylor Swift is the name of a pop-singer, not a comment on the speed of a girl named Taylor.
  • ''Ford'' is named after the man who founded the company, who was also named ''Ford''
  • ''The Expendables 3'' gets its name from being the 3rd ''Expendables'' film.

*most of these are taken from a buzzFeed article, but they're still HUGE announcements, don't you think?

You won't BELIEVE what happens at time-stamp 48:15:16!

We're hoping you haven't forgotten what day today is...

It’s Partial Credit Episode 5! This week we talk about our favorite book-to-movie adaptations. Spoiler alert: The book was better. More Cowbell - PC004
53:16

On this week’s episode, we choose our school/classroom walk-up songs, get judgmental on school rules, share our take on a new segment: hear no evil, see no evil, read no evil, and subject the listeners to yet another useless tool Donnie found online.

Segment 1

Walk up Music

  • Jesse - Enter Sandman
  • Jeff - Hell’s Bells
  • Donnie - Baba O’Riley
  • Donnie's Wife - This Must Be the Place

Segment 2

Judging School Rules - Jeff moderates two random people to get their perspective on chewing gum in schools.

  • Jesse - Anti-gum because chewing gum in the classroom distracts other students, bubble blowing, loud chewing and or smacking of the gum while chewing. Teachers also find ABC gum under tables or chairs. Besides being gross, it can also become a hygiene problem. But...
  • Donnie’s Better Notes -
    • Pro-gum
    • Keeps kids focused
    • Useful as a reward
    • Chewing gum helps your memory improve and it also helps you focus while you're studying. Chewing gum helps to relieve stress and relax. Three of the biggest reasons gum is not allowed at school are because teachers think it?s rude, distracting and messy.

Segment 3

Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Read No Evil

Segment 4

The Fantasy Teacher Movie Draft - PC001
32:30

Jesse, Jeff and Donnie launch the podcast and draft inspirational teachers from 90s movies.

Meet your hosts...

Jeffery Heil lives and works in sunny San Diego, California. He is a father, an educator, education consultant and speaker, as well as a hand and foot model. In his spare time, he loves snowboarding, traveling, taking and sharing pictures, and spending time with his daughters. As a former bartender, his claim to fame was serving drinks to Axl Rose and Slash from Guns N Roses and John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin.

Donnie Piercey works as a full-time daddy, full-time husband, and full-time teacher in Lexington, Kentucky. He likes dinosaurs, anything to do with outer space, and obscure films from the 80s and 90s. He doesn't like NASCAR, but he got to hang out with Jeff Gordon's family once. He also realized his bio wasn’t as long as Jeff and Jesse’s, so he added this sentence to make himself seem more important.

Jesse Lubinsky was born under a bad sign and raised on the mean streets of New York City. He now lives in Westchester County, NY with his wife and three amazing kids and works as a Director of Technology & Innovation and Chief Information Officer. An avid pop-culture geek, passionate sports fan, and voracious foodie, when he’s not traveling or searching for a great meal, he’s usually planning his next big adventure. He also has a Bacon Number of 3 (Look him up on IMDB!).
