"Unknown Caller" & "Household" (Handmaid's Tale S3E5&6)
02:05:08

Some bad news this week. Kristin has decided she doesn't want to podcast about Handmaid's Tale anymore. In her own words:

Hey all... I’m sure you’ve noticed there has been no episode this past week...
I’m exhausted. Seriously tired! Summer is here, we have house guests all summer, my husband is gearing up for yet another trip, and as I usually can handle all things at all times, I have to let some things go right now to keep my sanity. Handmaids Tale season 3 coverage is one of them.
It’s been very difficult to find a weekly cohost, and with my kids always around, it’s hard to prep the way I like to prep with a show that’s so inappropriate for little eyes and ears. So, it’s a perfect storm at my house right now!
I would love to continue to hash out the episodes week to week in thread form if you’d like, but for now, I truly hope you can understand this not so easy decision.
Love to all,
Kristin xo

The good news is, the podcast will go on. Please welcome Dianna (who cohosted with Kristin last time) and Liz. These two podcasters have graciously agreed to step in and finish out the season. It's not easy following Kristin, but I'm thankful they agreed to do it. They're great podcasters and passionate about the show, and so please show them a warm welcome.

Since we didn't have an episode last week, Liz and Dianna will be covering Handmaid's Tale season 3 episodes 5 and 6, "Unknown Caller" and "Household".

01:46:34

Listener Dianna from the Aim for the Head podcast joins Kristin to unpack The Handmaid’s Tale, Season 3, Episode 4, “God Bless the Child.” What an episode, right? It feels like we are really watching the first sparks of what a rebellion looks like at the inception of such an oppressed universe. Please enjoy our discussion of the different manifestations of PTSD, exploring the stellar characters, and the production itself.

"Night" (Handmaid's Tale S3E1)
01:44:45

House Podcastica has left Westeros and made a new temporary home in Gilead as we follow the beginnings of the resistance over there. For such a bleak show, this was all the positive feels it could muster, no doubt making us feel false hope, but with this world, any hope is a good thing!

Kristin is joined by Wendy this week to kick off season 3. Along with the feel of resistance, hope, motherhood, and sacrifice are all on the table for discussion. Enjoy!

No matter how we all feel about the last episode, what a ride it has been through Westeros these last 9 years... reflect, rejoice and revolt with us as Kristin, Jason and David unpack a truly head scratching finale, beautifully acted, gorgeously made, and questionably written. Beginning the first week of June, Kristin will be turning this podcast into a place to reel from the upcoming season of Handmaids Tale! Please head to our Facebook page for more information on that, and if you have any other shows you’d like to see covered, please feel free to message or email some ideas! We’d love to keep podcasting, as you listeners have been amazing and we WILL eventually be back for the eventual prequels from HBO!

This episode was dreaded for us, right? No one wanted to rewatch it, we didn’t want to discuss it, but something magical happened along the way... Lucy joins Kristin in a surprisingly cathartic and incredible discussion of easily the worst moment in Game of Thrones history. We’re quite proud of this one. Give it a listen, even if you didn’t rewatch (we understand). For those of you who want Lucy’s articles, here they are:

03:00:39

On this week's installment of our Game of Thrones Series Rewatch, Dunc and K cover the Season 3 premier, "Valar Dohaeris".  This episode is chock full of goodness as we meet great new characters like Missandei and Mance Rayder, see our baby dragons growing up strong, and encounter a giant for the first time along with Jon Snow.  So much fun stuff to analyze this week in an episode full of servitude, extreme emotional abuse, paranoia, and coping with defeat. We really do have a lot of fun though. Bronn gets a raise, Jon advances his Wildling infiltration significantly, Davos is saved from a rock spire jutting up from the middle of the ocean, Tywin and Cersei are both loving and kind (huh?). 55: "What Is Dead May Never Die" (S2E3)
02:18:26
This week on Game of Microphones Series Rewatch Duncan and Kristin cover Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode 3, “What Is Dead May Never Die”. There’s lots of juicy material to analyze this episode as Theon betrays Robb amidst his constant identity crisis, we meet two strong women Brienne and Margaery, and rejoice at the respect that the series offers towards strong female characters. We remark on how Balon Greyjoy is a progressive and regressive as a leader, as he puts Yara in a position of power and orders his forces to reave and pillage. We see how Arya learned to recite her list of names, and say farewell to fan favorite Yoren, who goes out in mega badass style. This episode is also memorable as the we witness the first of Tyrion’s spectacular machinations in King’s Landing as he outwits Pycelle, Varys, and Littlefinger. This is a fantastic episode of Game of Thrones and we hope you enjoy our discussion about it!

01:56:50
This week on Game of Microphones’ Series Rewatch, join Duncan and Kristin as they dive deep into dissection of Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode 1, “The Night Lands”. This episode marks the introduction of fan favorite Jaqen H’ghar, and is just chock full of awesome moments like Jon Snow aimlessly trying to sharpen his Valyrian blade (which is impossible without Valyrian technology), and shadow baby impregnation on top of the painted map table at a Dragonstone. We examine the beliefs of various religions and talk about a whole bunch of fun stuff. Hope you enjoyed this episode as much as we did!

02:21:08
This week on Game of Microphones’ Series Rewatch join Duncan and Kristin for a special announcement, and to cover Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode 1, “The North Remembers”. Seeing the season 2 premier again reminded us of what a really great episode this was, and we think you’ll agree as we break it down bit by bit and discuss everything from the dramatic and impactful first appearances of Stannis, Melisandre, and Davos, and comparisons of how Robb and Joffrey treat their prisoners, to a look at some of the religious and occult symbolism in this episode. As usual we have great listener feedback too. Onward into season 2!

01:34:12
This week on Game of Microphones Series Rewatch join Duncan and newcomer Wendy Ott Eppers in discussing Season 1 Episode 8, “The Pointy End”. This is what it sounds like when Robb Stark rides on his enemies. The banners are called and war is brewing. We discuss the ramifications of Ned being taken captive, the multitude of occurrences of badassery in this episode, self sacrifices, and saying goodbye to Syrio. Parallels between Jaime and Varys are noticed, and we see our first example of Tyrion’s talent in diplomacy. So much to discuss in this significant episode!

43: "Winter is Coming" (S1E1 Rewatch)
01:50:27

And so it begins! Game of Microphones' rewatch of Game of Thrones!! WARNING: This podcast episode (and all forthcoming rewatch eps) are from the point of view of having seen the series up through the end of season 7, and have LOTS OF SPOILERS! I've never talked about so many spoilers in a single podcast episode. So much fun :)

So if you're all caught up or don't mind spoilers, enjoy! We (Duncan and Jason) had a blast going back to the beginning and looking at all these characters and situations from the perspective of everything that's happened to them moving forward. We were surprised (and delighted) at how much they each seemed destined for their fates, but never quite in the way we might've imagined. And we got a kick out of seeing how much YOUNGER they all looked.

42: Still Smug Book Talk: "The Dragon and the Wolf" (S7E7)
02:17:08
This week on Game of Microphones Still Smug Book Talk, Ser Duncan and Obsidian Crow cover the Season 7 Finale "The Dragon and the Wolf". Together we'll experience the storied history of the Dragonpit and the brutal attack that left the the structure in the destroyed state in which we find it in the finale, and compare "the Night King" of the tv show's to "Night's King" of the books. We explore the different ways that Jaime eventually left Cersei in the show vs the books but note a significant weather change that occurs similarly in both cases. We talk Cleganebowl and explore The Hound's driving motivation in life: to brutally murder his older brother. We discover similarities between the deaths of Littlefinger and the maegi Mirri Maz Duur, revel in the influence that Ned Stark is still having on our characters, and witness a vision of Rhaegar Targaryen that both explains the similar look of him and his younger brother Viserys, and gives us some insight into the significance that Rhaegar places on Jon's birth name, Aegon Targaryen. All this and more in this week's Still Smug Book Talk.

We examine similarities in things that get both Cersei and the Mad King aroused sexually. 20: "The Door" (S6E5)
01:49:22

Tormund and Brienne

Game of Throneskicks us in the gut this week as we bid farewell to a beloved character, makes us laugh a bit with a ridiculous depiction of the goings on in King's Landing, and gives us some answers to some long gestating questions. "The Door"turns out to be such a powerful and moving episode, and to think we are only half-way through the sixth season! Try not to weep the next time someone asks you to "hold the door" for them.

3: Gwendoline Christie (Brienne)
37:01

I (Jason) and A.Ron of the Bald Move Game of Thrones podcast (baldmove.com) had the great fortune to moderate a panel with the amazing Gwendoline Christie. She was so energetic and passionate, and went in depth on many subjects, including:

  • What it was like working with the bear at Harrenhal.
  • How it's been for her to change her look to play Brienne, and where Brienne's beauty comes from.
  • How she trained and prepared to play Brienne, and what it's like getting into charcter.
  • The relationship between Brienne and Jaime, and what it was like to film the bath scene.
  • Who she thinks should have the crown.
  • Who she'd most want Brienne to fight.
  • And a lot more.

Enourmous thanks to James of The Walker Stalkers (walkerstalkercon.com) for bringing us in to do the panel and for allowing us to use the audio.

1: Seasons One and Two
01:21:16

We're finally doing it! So excited to get our Game of Thrones podcast going. Karen and I have been doing the Walking Dead 'Cast for almost five years now, and we're every bit as excited about this amazing show as that one. We're honored to be joined by Gracie Lou and Mr. Blahg of Under the Comic Covers, as well as Karen's husband David; three friends who are even more passionate and knowledgable about this series than we are.

In this first episode, we introduce ourselves and give you our background with the series and the books, and then we play a segment from a 2012 episode of Walking Dead 'Cast where we broadly covered our opinions of the series at the time, with some specifics about seasons one and two. Also the latest news about Game of Thrones, some comparisions between the show and the book in those first two seasons, and some of your enthusiastic feedback.

If you'd like to write to us, you can reach us at game@podcastica.com, and you can find us on the web at gameofmicrophones.com and podcastica.com.

We're also on facebook at facebook.com/podcastica and on Twitter at twitter.com/podcastica.

May the seven have mercy on us all!
