If his name isn’t familiar, his work will be. He authored, “Forks Over Knives: the Cookbook,” “The China Study Quick and Easy Cookbook,” and “Better than Vegan,” the story of his struggle with weight loss and gain, and how he managed to lose over 200 pounds on a low fat, plant-based diet. 

Not only does he share some of his favorite practical cooking tips for common staples in your home - beans, potatoes, veggie stock, and even low-fat recipes for delicious cheese substitute sand guacamole (that you won’t want to miss), BUT - he also talks openly about his own struggles with health and weight.

Like many of us, Del has fallen victim to overstress, overeating, and finding comfort in the wrong foods. Sound familiar? Conditions are deplorable for both the animals and the humans at these meat processing plants, and the health of both is compromised daily.

Ethan discusses in detail how his company is improving the efficiency, safety, health, and environmental impact of his Beyond Meat production and the benefits are staggering.

We know that the average consumer, even those who eat animal meat, are aware and very concerned about these health and social issues. As Ethan has says, “I believe there is a new dawn for American agriculture and this conversation is our awakening hour.”

Here’s to having the heart of a hero and not being afraid to challenge the status quo. In fact, instead of being divisive, it’s time we come together and work together to solve these problems on behalf of the animals, the longevity of our planet, and our own health.

Ep.16: Chris Wark - How Chris Beat Cancer

“I just couldn’t wrap my head around this idea that you can poison your way back to health.”

In 2003, Chris Wark received a grim colon cancer diagnosis at the young age of 26. And, as most of us know, when it comes to cancer treatment, much of the decision-making is based around FEAR. Who wouldn’t be afraid if you were told you basically had a 50-50 shot at surviving?

Chris, however, took a different approach. Instead of using fear to drive his decision on chemotherapy, he turned to facts and his faith. Instead of pumping chemo drugs into his body, he pumped in as many anti-cancer foods as he could and turned his body into a nutritional powerhouse. He built his body up instead of tearing it down.

Ep. 8: Robby Barbaro - Having Diabetes Has Been a Gift

Robby Barbaro is a seeker. After being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 12, Barbaro set off on a quest to optimize his health, buck conventional beliefs and thrive in spite of his illness. His drive for truth has become his life’s work.

“It’s not the banana’s fault,” he stresses, when it comes to the confusion and lack of understanding around eating fruit and managing diabetes. Barbaro is the co-founder of Mastering Diabetes, a comprehensive program developed to help people both understand the science of insulin resistance and take control of their health through a low-fat plant-based diet. Together with Dr. Cyrus Khambatta, they just released their first book by the same name.

Type II diabetes, in particular, is preventable and even reversible if you put the right lifestyle habits into play. Ep 7: Jesse Itzler Lives Outside the Box

Jesse Itzler does not negotiate his goals.

He’s the author of the New York Times bestsellers, Living with a Seal and Living with the Monks, the cofounder of Marquis Jet, the world's largest private jet card company which he and his partner sold to Berkshire Hathaway/NetJets, and he also partnered with Zico coconut water, which he and his partner sold to The Coca-Cola Company. On top of everything else, he’s also an owner of the Atlanta Hawks NBA team!

Clearly, Itzler has never shied away from prioritizing personal growth and adventure. 

“If you don’t prioritize adventure,” he says, “You get a calendar filled up with responsibilities and appointments.”

Ep. 6: Dr. Michelle McMacken - Why She Created a Broccoli Hotline

After attending a lifestyle medicine conference, Dr. Michelle McMacken changed her philosophy about patient care overnight. Now, she routinely prescribes plants over pills in her practice and, through compassionate consultations, opens wide the door to change.

At Bellevue Hospital in New York City, McMacken is the lead physician on a plant-based pilot program designed to provide people with education and support. Last fall, Tracey Stewart attended a five-day Plant-Strong Engine 2 Immersion in Asheville, North Carolina. Even as a compassionate animal advocate, and author of Do Unto Animals, Tracey, like many of us, still felt frustrated and stagnant in her plant-strong journey. The invigorating retreat, however, ignited a passion and turned on her science-based megaphone with which she could reclaim her health and provide resources for many.

“The solution was simple,” she wrote in a blog post after the Immersion. “I just needed to add more vegetables and take away the processed foods and additives in my diet! My saving-animals-kit just gained a whole bunch of new tools!”

Her husband, Jon Stewart, in case you haven’t turned on the TV in many years, is the longtime host, writer, and Executive Producer for “The Daily Show,” which won 22 Primetime Emmys during his tenure. He has also recently become a vocal champion for 9/11 first responders and their struggles for protection and health care.

Together as a plant-strong couple, Jon and Tracey have launched a new chapter in their purposeful lives. Together, they run the Hockhockson Farm Foundation, an animal sanctuary in New Jersey dedicated to promoting healthy, sustainable, and kind living.

In part one of this packed two-episode conversation, Jon and Tracey humorously share stories of their plant-based journey, but also recount how they met and became a couple over two decades ago! Ep. 19: NYFD, Kevin Duffy, Runs on Plants

New York firefighter, Kevin Duffy, was recently awarded the 2019 sexiest vegan title, He was also featured about two years ago in a New York Times article entitled, “Two Ironmen, a Garage and a Vegan Agenda.”

In addition to working in Yonkers at one of the busiest fire stations in all of New York City, he's also an incredible IRONMAN triathlete and endurance runner who gets up at 4:00 AM for training runs, rides, swims before heading to the station. 

At the age of 19, Duffy tragically lost a brother in 9/11 and has found a deep personal purpose in the plant-based lifestyle. He is dedicating his life to demonstrate what's possible with the power of plants.

As he says in the episode, "At 37, I know I could kick my 20-year-old self's ass."

In 2016 at the young age of 54, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams listened as his doctor gave him a grim diagnosis of Type II diabetes.
