School is out. Summer has finally come! With his best friend, Billy, away on vacation and no Wi-Fi at his home (don't ask why...), Average Boy gets bored pretty quickly. When Bob admits that he’s bored, his dad suggests doing chores! Average Boy doesn’t just work around his house, he "helps" out neighbors by mowing their lawns. In the end, AB realizes a God-sized imagination beats Wi-Fi (and boredom) any day. Bob and Jesse also help a listener with her Christian walk.

Lights, camera, action! Average Boy is in a movie! Okay, it's really a promotional video for his church, but it's still exciting! Even though AB has some “creative differences” with his youth pastor, he learns the most important thing is to put God first. Bob and Jesse also give a listener advice about not getting so mad about things.

There is no perfect podcast, but this one comes close. Actually, it doesn’t because only Jesus is perfect. Bob discovers how imperfect he is, especially with keeping his promises. When he fails to pick up something he promised to do, it almost results in his grandma getting injured. Bob and Jesse also help out a listener in Texas with ways to get through hard times in life.

Average Boy has a gift for being funny. But are there times when it’s best not to be funny or tell a joke? Yup. Average Boy shares some appropriate—and some not-so-appropriate—times he used humor. From setting off the sprinklers in science class to getting stuck in traffic on the way to baseball practice, Bob learns (or does he?) the proper time and place to make people laugh.

Before AB can say anything, Jimmy rolls up and makes the Threesome super nervous with his confidence and humor. You’ll also meet Everley and discover that all people are created in the image of God.

The fall festival at Bob’s church is filled with fun, a family photo shoot and a parking lot full of pumpkins. What could go possibly wrong? First, Average Boy has to keep his clothes clean. And that’s not easy with all the strawberry ice cream and chocolate bars lying around. Then there’s the spider attack! Discover what happens when everything doesn’t go as Bob’s Mom planned. Average Boy goes on a beach vacation with his family, but he forgets his flip-flops and burns his feet on the sand. Ouch! But not as ouchy as a crying boy who needs help to find his parents. With no lifeguards around, Bob and his brother, Brian, step up. Beach litter plays a surprising (if not icky) part in the rescue, so does the color orange. Orange you glad the color wasn’t banana. Find out if Jesse’s jokes are better than the last line and if the boy makes it back to his parents in this sandy adventure.

But in the end, Bob shows Gus that he can be confident, respectful, polite and a hard worker—all great qualities for a casual employee. (You’ll have to listen to find out what that is.) Bob and Jesse also answer a question about finding your confidence in Christ.

Fortunately, Bob knows all about handling embarrassing situations. Bob makes a mental note to welcome her after the lesson is over and ends up embarrassing himself (big surprise). Speaking of surprises, Bob and Jesse win a major award! They also tackle the hard question of how we can know Jesus is with us, even when we can’t see Him.

When Bob’s new book, Average Boy’s Above-Average Year, comes out, he can’t help but be excited about sharing it with his friends. But he didn’t expect them to play a prank on him! Between the librarian telling him to hush to his classmates checking out other books, Average Boy feels pretty sad. When his friends come through, though, his frown turns upside down as he realizes they are just playing with him. He also answers an important question about being a Christian, even when you don’t feel like it.

Past failures can lead to future success. That's what Bob has discovered. By learning to let go of past flops and flips (did we mention there's waterskiing in this podcast), Bob doesn’t quit and eventually achieves victory. Bob and Jesse discuss how past failures shouldn't stop us from trying new things ... or growing closer to Jesus. Failure is part of life. Instead of being an end, we should see it as a new beginning.

Communication includes tone of voice, body language and a bunch of other stuff. As we communicate with people in our lives, it's good to remember Proverbs 16:24, "Kind words are ... sweet to the spirit and bring healing to the body."

Bob’s family has been spending more time at home, so they’ve gotten creative with their family activities. By combining different board games, they’ve created new challenges. Like by mixing “Sorry!” and Jenga, they made “I’m sorry your wooden tower fell over!” But they’ve also been creatively reaching out to their neighbors who have been struggling. All in all, the Smileys’ have learned a lot about putting up with each other and forgiving each other—just like it says in Colossians 3:13.
