Episode Date
Episode 32: Knowing What Is Mine To Do with Heidi Harmon
3013

In this episode of the SHE RECOVERS podcast, Erin talks with Heidi Harmon.

As the current mayor of San Luis Obispo, Heidi is guiding her community into a "politics of belonging," where every citizen is equally heard, seen and valued.

Heidi's background as a housecleaner and preschool teacher, as well as her choice to act in her political role from a very feminine energy, has made her a target for those who are uncomfortable with feminine power. Heidi shares how she uses that and other challenges to become even more aligned with her values and purpose. She also discusses how women can help move our culture from one based in "rugged masculine individualism" to a more balanced, compassionate society.

Episode 31: Self Love and Releasing Shame with Nica Selvaggio
3618

Nica Selvaggio was adopted as a young child and came to believe that worthiness was dependant upon being perfect. Nica, who identifies as a non-binary queer human, shares how the unconscious shame, rage and grief of this trauma of objectification led to a decade-long eating disorder.

Now a therapist in long-term recovery, Nica has crafted a life centered around profound self kindness with daily, holistic practices that help build acceptance, safety and self love.

Nica explains how using dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), a type of cognitive behavioral therapy, can help heal traumatized nervous systems and create the ability to stay present, regulate emotions, cope healthily with stress, and improve relationships. Nica also talks with Taryn about how the death of her birth mother led to a sex addiction and, eventually, to a deeper recovery.

Episode 30: Love Sober with Kate Baily
3706

Erin talks with Kate Baily, cofounder of the LOVE SOBER community and cohost of the LOVE SOBER podcast. Kate’s story of recovery began when she stopped wondering if her drinking was “bad enough,” and joined in an online sober women’s community, Soberistas.

Kate's “bad enough” question is one many women in our community struggle with as they feel stuck in the gray area of drinking - that space in between the extremes of rock bottom and every-now-and-again drinking. In that gray area, the consequences of our drinking behavior is often intimate and known only to us.

Kate also shares about the trauma and self harm she experienced as a young teenager in a devout religious community and how she used Buddhist principles and practices to help her heal. Erin and Kate also talk about parenting in sobriety.

Episode 29: Alcohol Fiend to Sobriety Queen with Connie McMillan
3329

In this episode of the SHE RECOVERS podcast, Erin talks with Connie McMillan, author of "Alcohol Fiend to Sobriety Queen" and host of the Sober Sessions podcast.

Six years ago, tired of living the party life, depleting her bank account and being "everything to everybody all the time," Connie dropped the facade and began her journey to become 'Sobriety Queen Connie,' the recovery coach, author and mentor she is today.

Connie shares how some of her greatest heartbreaks - a failed marriage, her sister's incarceration and the death of her mother - became the catalyst for building the life she was meant to live. She also discusses the loneliness that often comes with early recovery and its importance in the process of "decluttering" your life to make room for new people and new experiences.

Episode 27: The Power of Connections
2272

No matter where you are in your recovery journey, you will enjoy this conversation about the power of connections. We recorded it in late 2019 at our NYC CREATING CONNECTIONS TOUR.

Meredith and Jenny connected on our SHE RECOVERS Together FACEBOOK page and are supporting each other in early days of sobriety. Mo and Kathy, who have 50 years of recovery between them, connected at a SHE RECOVERS retreat. Their friendship helped to deepen their long-term recovery and they both are now SHE RECOVERS coaches, helping other women discover the joy and vibrancy within themselves.

We hope you enjoy this episode - the last of 2019. We will return in 2020 with more SHE RECOVERS podcast episodes.
