Description
If the United States of America had a sacred canon of literature, which writings would be included? What stories would be told? Whose voices would be heard? Whose voices would be forgotten? The purpose of The American Canon is to explore the vast anthology of American literature and historiography to determine which writings speak to the core of the Great American Experiment: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
