How She Decided to Leap
00:25:23

In this episode, small business owner Olivia Starling teaches us how she created her six-figure business using influencers.

Olivia is your typical busy mom and wife. She grew up working at her family business and moved on to work for a non-profit. She was struggling to move up in her business after being told she needed more experience to qualify for a promotion. When her office told her she couldn't, she told herself she COULD and joined the Because I Can tribe.

As a part of my tribe, I often tell you to sell a product you love, something you will enjoy selling to others. Olivia did just that. She is going to talk about how she bought a number of items to decide from and why jewelry stood out to her.

With no huge social media following to boost her business, she turned to those that did. Olivia connected with influencers to promote her product and saw huge returns doing it.

Listen and hear what her biggest piece of advice is for you as you begin your process of starting a small business on this episode of Because I Can.

3 Things To UNLEARN To Grow
00:31:45

In this episode, Alison starts with a story that offers us some humbling perspective on our current situation and how we should treat others. She shares a social media post about the experience that attracted her largest reach yet.

The post describes Alison encountering a woman who was struggling to control a toddler and care for a newborn in public. Alison felt herself, and other patrons, begin to judge the woman. Rather than embracing that feeling, she offered her help. It’s a story with a lesson of humility and a reminder that we are meant to help others.

After the story, Alison teaches us the three things entrepreneurs need to unlearn to run a successful business. She tells us that what we sell is important. Our stuff is not just “stuff”. Multitasking is not your answer for productivity. In fact, it hurts our efficiency. Finally, she teaches us how to slow down and “unlearn being busy”

Listen to this week’s episode for more on these three tips for success. Also, check out what Alison sold when she first got started by visiting becauseicanlife.com\gift

What If The Products Don't Sell?
00:26:20

In this episode, I’ll dive into the topic of the cost of lost opportunity and one of the most crippling questions that every startup online entrepreneur should avoid focusing on, “What if it doesn’t sell?” That is the worst mindset one can have when they’re starting an online business (or any business for that matter) and I’m living proof that adopting the opposite of that is what anyone needs to thrive in business. If I had ever focused on that negative thought when I was starting out, I would never have been able to achieve the millions of dollars in sales that I’ve achieved so far, and I’m going to share my backstory to show you how to not give power to it.

My online business journey started nine years ago. I had trained to be a junior high teacher, so as you can imagine, I had no idea what I was doing, but I was very determined to keep going at it. I was juggling my four kids and I remember vividly nursing my baby while I uploaded the very first product picture and typed in the description with one hand. That was the day I launched my first online store, and before I knew it, I was making sales. I can recall feeling every single emotion in a single split second when I discovered that I had made my first sale. What’s even more amazing is that my first product was trash.

Yes, trash. I was selling leftover crafting supplies that were headed to the trash can anyway, and I really never thought anyone would buy them from me, but I had to start from somewhere. So there I was selling trash, and lo and behold, I made my first $300 in sales. But that “What if?” question still lingered in my mind especially when I started having zero sales, and that was my fork in the road where I would need to choose to either give up or keep going. I decided to keep going and that was when I realized that I could really make money selling products online. I discovered that money just moves around and all I needed to do is put value out into the world for that money to land into my hands. Listen in to hear more of my story so you can get some much needed inspiration to get started with your own online store.

Key Takeaways:

  • From bedhead, no makeup, and bangs to 7-Figure online entrepreneur (02:35)
  • Shutting down the what if and beating out my husband’s salary (06:38)
  • Moving away from “What if it doesn't sell?” to “What if it does sell?” (10:32)
  • Starting small like Oprah and Bezos (12:55)
  • Why you’re not selling despite having traffic coming to your website (16:42)
  • How you can get out of that rat race of trying to lower your prices from your competition to beat out your competition (21:03)
  • You are meant to figure it out and make money (23:36)

Makayla Tells The Truth
00:34:18

In this episode, I will be talking to a young inspiring entrepreneur that I’ve known for the last 19 years, my daughter Makayla Prince. Now, a lot of you heard the story of how she made her first six figures when she was just 13yrs old, and how just a few months ago Russell Brunson invited her to talk on the stage at Funnel Hacking Live where over 5000 people were present. I’ve watched Makayla dive into things that would have terrified me as a teenager, and let me tell you, that girl has no stage fright at all whatsoever. I’m so proud about how her business has really helped her step into who she really wants to become, and I just wanted her to share her story from her own perspective.

One of the things that she will highlight is the way I applied some parenting magic to trick her into starting a business. Every parent knows that when you give your kids two not so fun choices and one really good one, they definitely choose the really good one. That’s how I got her to start a business because I asked her to choose whether to move out, do more chores, or start a business, and of course, she chose the latter. She will share how she started her business when she was just 13, talk about her first business selling scarfs, her first experience working with influencers, and some of the struggles and frustrating things she has ever had to deal with.

She will also talk about framework and dive into one of the steps in the framework, which is that when one is starting a business, they should not go out there and get a brand new shark tank idea, but rather find what is trending. Tune in for more on that and some encouragement from Makayla to all parents on why they should start inviting their kids to business conferences, encouraging them to embrace entrepreneurship, and so much more.

Key Takeaways:

  • How she came about the idea of starting a business at 13 years old (05:48)
  • Taking an age old product and making it a trend (08:29)
  • The scary part of starting to work with influencers and how they helped her make her first sale (09:42)
  • Dealing with ton and tons of orders and getting all of them out in time (12:58)
  • Making hundreds of thousands of dollars and understanding the value of money (15:19)
  • Tips for teenagers who want to start their own business (17:08)
  • What parents can do to encourage their kids to be entrepreneurs (21:20)
  • Her favorite part about owning her business (29:19)

Why You Are Not Charging Enough
00:36:10

In this episode, I’m going to have a conversation with high ticket sales extraordinaire, Eileen Wilder. Eileen is a bestselling author, coach, ordained pastor, the founder and CEO of Wild & Free™, and in-demand speaker who has helped countless people get unstuck, change lives with their message, and turn their passion into profit. She's helped coaches and thought-leaders all over the world grow their businesses to 6 and 7-figures, while serving the world with total authenticity. Eileen’s core passion is helping others make a living serving others, using a simple automated online business system.

A lot of times, we as online entrepreneurs get scared to sell products, especially when we look at what other people are selling them for, and it almost becomes like a race to the bottom because everyone wants to beat out the competition. Well, I always talk about not playing that game and how we can add the "Concert Experience" so that we can increase our prices, and I believe you've already learned the tactical way of doing it. Eileen is super experienced in doing it another way. And that’s through selling high ticket items.

If you wanna grow your online business today, join us as Eileen shares her insights, knowledge, strategies, resources, and proven high-ticket sales and closing tactics that will help you achieve that. She's going to talk to us about how we can charge more and why, because it's always a disservice to oneself if someone ends up selling their products for the cheapest price on the market. Now, she’s going to talk a lot about digital products because that's the world she's in, but what we should all note is that the sales belief is the same no matter if you're selling a physical product or a digital product. Make sure you take notes because what she has to share will blow your mind. Enjoy!

Key Takeaways:

  • From broke as a joke to making 6 figures in a day (03:43)
  • How to move from feeling like you're taking people's money to being comfortable charging a premium price (07:03)
  • The importance of recognizing you’re not in competition with anyone (12:52)
  • How having a strong support system has helped her succeed (16:33)
  • The power of naming a product after the result it delivers (18:35)
  • 66% of purchasing decisions happen off of email (25:57)

The Truth Of Living In Puerto Rico - 1 Year Recap
00:30:53

In this episode, I’m going to move away from the normal business topics that I talk about to share what it’s been like living in Puerto Rico. It’s been a year since my husband and I moved our family from our awesomely comfortable home in Utah to set up base in Puerto Rico, and I’m going to talk about the absolute adventure that it has been for us, some of the things that we've loved, some of the things that we've hated, some of the things that we've struggled through, and some of the things that we have been absolutely impressed with.

My kids and I were recently talking about how they've come to like Puerto Rico, and my little guy Lucas told me the most amazing story about how he had prayed about coming here and the prayer helped him be at peace with the move, and even brought him closer to God. That was so amazing because it assured me that moving here was the right decision. Initially I was so concerned that my husband and I may have made the wrong decision for our kids moving them away from their home and friends back in Utah.

I’m going to dig into some of the nitty gritties of living here in Puerto Rico, and I’ll kick it off by talking about money and some of the costs of living here. One of the ones that were a total shocker was the electricity costs. We had heard that the electricity costs here were three times the average of the United States, and we didn’t believe it until we got our first electricity bill, and it was a whooping $800. It’s generally been an awesome place to live, with amazing neighbors (and there’s actually a lot of entrepreneurs here who moved from the US), the best sweet bread in the world, and less crowded beaches. There's no over-scheduling here so it's less busy for us, and we can spend more time with the family and just being at peace. It’s also so easy to communicate with people here because a lot of people speak English, and one of the best things for the kids is that they get to drive golf carts to school. There are so many magical things about living here and I hope you love all the insights that I’ll share. Maybe you’ll wanna live here too? Tune in for more.

Key Takeaways:

  • Packing their stuff up and moving three bajillion miles away from their comfortable home in Utah (01:14)
  • Knowing that moving to Puerto Rico was the right choice (04:09)
  • Living in an area with mind-blowing neighbors and a lot of entrepreneurs that have moved from the US (07:49)
  • The kids driving golf carts to school, getting Amazon deliveries, and renting versus buying, so we can play on the island (13:05)
  • Some of the annoyances here and how they taught me so much gratitude (16:43)
  • Power outages, super slow nail salons, and watching my kids’ gratitude increase (24:13)
  • Finding the silver lining (the good) in the difficult times we’re experiencing now (29:03)

How To Use Tapping To Stay In Control Of Your Thoughts And Emotions
00:47:22

In this episode, I’m going to bring tapping expert Alex Ortner to the show to talk about exactly how tapping can benefit us. The first time I heard about tapping, it was a little bit of a unique stretch for me. It was out of the normal and I was super confused about what it was, but at the Brendon Burchard mastermind that I went to a couple of months ago, I got to meet Alex and his sweet wife, and it completely opened my mind up to tapping.

Alex is the chief marketing officer and co-owner, along with his brother Nick and sister Jessica, of The Tapping Solution, LLC, a company with a mission to bring into the mainstream a simple, effective, natural healing method known as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) or “Tapping.” Alongside his siblings, Jessica and Nick, Alex developed the Tapping Solution App to make this powerful stress relief technique accessible to anyone around the world.

With over 200 Tapping meditations to choose from. The Tapping Solution app makes it easier to use tapping to lower stress levels, reduce anxiety, get motivated, get better sleep, eliminate negative emotions and much more! He produces first-of-their-kind online programs such as The Tapping World Summit, a free annual worldwide online event that has been attended by over 2.5 million people over the last 10 years. He is also the author of the children’s book “Gorilla Thumps and Bear Hugs: A Tapping Solution Children’s Story”, and speaks to teachers and students through his foundation on how to use tapping to create balance, relieve stress and get better results in the classroom. Do You Have One of These 4 Styles Of Online Shops?
00:22:30

In this episode, I’m going to talk about the four different types of online stores that one can start and grow successfully. When I first got started in online business, I didn't even know that there were actual different types of online stores. I just started selling leftover crafting supplies from my house. And in hindsight, my lack of awareness was probably such a blessing, because had I had known all the options, I probably would have been paralyzed with information overload, and had been unable to even make a choice.

With the tons of information out there about starting and building an online store, and the widespread knowledge of what eCommerce means, a lot of you might just feel a little bit overwhelmed by the online store options. I know you’ve definitely been doing your research and consulting experts so you’ve definitely come across terms like dropshipping, affiliate marketing, traditional shop your own branded products, and FBA. You've probably even gone a step farther and looked into the pros and cons of each. But all that just makes it harder for you to make a decision. Right?

Well, my advice is that you first of all choose what kind of shop you want to create based on two things; what interests you, and the Easy-Hard, Hard-Easy rule. The Easy-Hard, Hard-Easy rule refers to a way of doing things in a business. One can either choose the hard option first, and get it out of the way so things can get easier as they run the business, or they could choose the easier way first, and then have things with the business getting harder as the business grows. I'll explain how that rule applies to the different online business models that I'm going to be sharing with you on this episode, and at the end of it all, you can rest assured that you will have what it takes to go start your online store and run with it. Stay tuned!

Key Takeaways:

  • Alison’s view of eCommerce and how she initially didn't know it was associated with an online store (01:24)
  • The Easy-Hard, Hard-Easy rule of business (03:30)
  • Comparing the different types of online stores that you can build (06:34)
  • The pros and cons of dropshipping and international versus local dropshipping (09:01)
  • Affiliate marketing and why it’s more on the Hard-Easy spectrum (13:13)
  • An online shop with a mix of other people's products and your own branded products (16:28)
  • Starting from scratch and building a quality that no one else can touch (18:20)

He is a sought-after speaker, the number one bestselling author of The Entrepreneur’s Solution, and the creator of The Entrepreneur’s Solution podcast, which is currently the top-ranked business podcast for social entrepreneurs.

I met him about a month ago at the Brendon Burchard mastermind, and we became best friends.

I've heard him talk about finances and what is happening in the world right now, and how he is watching businesses that are in fear take their dollars and turn them into pennies while others are able to step back, take pennies and turn them into dollars. So I wanted to bring him on to talk to us about how we can fortify our businesses financially in the crisis that we’re facing right now. He will talk about sales problems versus profits problems and how we can work around them, how we can keep making money with our businesses while maintaining great relationships with our customers, how the recently unveiled CARES Act can cushion us from the harm the Coronavirus pandemic is unleashing, and so much more. Why You Can't Make Decisions
00:26:27

In this episode, I’m going to talk about why you can't make decisions related to your family or business even when it’s important that you do. When five o’clock in the evening hits, most mothers are super tired, and the age-old question from their kids about what’s for dinner makes them feel like they’ll cringe and you just want to make everything and everyone disappear. Personally, when my kids ask me that question, I almost feel like my brain folds in on itself like a piece of odd origami.

That question is one of the many painful and repetitive questions that get asked daily in every family. But what makes that question so painful? Well, the reality is it's the basis of why we have problems making decisions. Think of a scenario where you are going for a run, and you're just about to head out the door when you realize that there's something in your sneaker poking you. Maybe it’s a pebble or a Lego. You're not even sure, but you consider trying to shove it to one side of your sneaker with your toes, and just hope for the best because you really don't feel like taking off your shoe, and trying to re-tie it.

But you realize that if you don't deal with that annoying poking, your run will end up horribly. That’s sort of the same way decision making works. You may have every intention of making a decision, but there's something causing you to stop from moving forward with it. That thing is called decision fatigue. Research shows that we make 35,000 decisions every single day, and that just exhausts our brains tremendously. To emulate uber successful people, we have to know that decision fatigue exists and start working on making choices that will lighten the load on our brains. And that’s exactly what I will help you do in this episode, so you can start making the most positively impactful decisions in your family and business. Don’t miss out.

Key Takeaways:

  • Prepping long and hard to make ClanCon 2020 the best one yet (01:22)
  • Decision fatigue and how it comes from making 35,000 decisions a day (03:33)
  • How to reduce your brain load so that you can focus on the things that matter in your family and business (07:00)
  • Be your own smart meter to pare down the number of unimportant decisions you make to save room for the important ones (10:41)
  • Meal prepping services and creating savings habits (15:23)
  • Can drinking water help you conserve brain energy? (18:44)
  • Commit, take baby steps, be consistent, form a trigger, create a schedule, batch work, and make more stuff less stuff (21:35)

Do I Need To Stop My Business? (Special Edition)
00:26:03

In this special episode, I’ll talk about all that’s going on in the world with the Coronavirus, the stock market tumbling, the earthquake in Utah, and all the horrible things that are happening globally. I’ll share how I was being overwhelmed by all those things and how I’ve been receiving messages from some of my students who are having second thoughts about starting their online businesses because they are terrified by the great uncertainties that are engulfing the world right now.

The way I dealt with it all was by taking a moment to remember where my focus is, what my vision is, and that God is my business partner. I remembered that my main aim is to teach people how to make money, and that’s when the weight of everything came off. None of us can control the Coronavirus, or the economy, or the stock market, but we can control ourselves and how we choose to go about things. Now, I’m only focusing on the things that I can change, and letting everything else melt away.

There’s a lot of doom and gloom being predicted for businesses but I will share real life stories of a number of my students who are doubling down on running their online businesses and making money because customers are still looking to buy the stuff they like. This is as good a time as any to get started on your online business or grow the one you’re already running by meeting your customers at the point of their needs. To learn the specifics of how you can do just that, you need to listen to this episode.

Key Takeaways:

  • Feeling the weight of the world really heavy on her (01:24)
  • Dealing with all the craziness going on worldwide by clarifying her goal and focusing on her vision (04:10)
  • Now is the time for you to be able to stand up and serve your customers (05:54)
  • Sales will still be good despite people being a little bit nervous about spending (08:41)
  • Working through the emotions of what is going on and helping out by getting that money circulating (11:03)
  • Going from “What do I need?” to “Where am I needed?” (17:14)
  • Increasing the value you deliver by giving your customers an experience that no one can replicate (22:00)

Want In On a One-On-One Coaching Session?
00:47:42

In this episode, I brought in Laura Stevenson, one of my students of the Zero to 100k system, to give her some one-on-one coaching so that you can hear how these roll out. When I first pulled up her video to do this coaching session, she was beaming with excitement to geek out about her business with me. Laura was the marketing director of a dental practice with three practices, and just quit the job two weeks ago to focus on her family and work on her business full-time.

She started her course in February 2019 and then followed Alison’s roadmap by creating her first products, and selling them on deal sites. She later created her own Shopify store in August where she sells t-shirts, jewelry, and home decor to women who love the outdoors to add a touch of nature to their homes or what they wear. I will start off the coaching session by looking at her site and highlighting the first thing she needs to do, and that’s to make sure that her vision comes out clearly on her website.

Her goal is to inspire people to feel the satisfaction of being outside by selling them her products, but that goal doesn’t come out so clearly in her very well put together and beautiful site. And this is one of the success factors in eCommerce. One might have a great online store, but if they don’t sell their vision clearly to their target market, they might find themselves selling less and less moving forward. I’ll share so much more advice with Laura on how she can improve on her site and strategically brand her products to increase her sales and grow her business in the long term. Stay tuned to get some first-hand experience on getting one-on-one coaching from me.

Key Takeaways:

  • Laura’s less more statement: Less of what she wants to do, so she can make more room for what she really wants to do (04:49)
  • Leaving her job two weeks to go into her business full-time (06:50)
  • Building up her storytelling to bring out her vision more to her audience (12:06)
  • Creating habits into your products and your customers (18:32)
  • The habit of creating love or gratitude notes: Creating new products and making them an event in customers’ lives (22:19)
  • Making the brand more about the customers and less about you (24:08)
  • How to work with influencers and how they can help you speed up your process so much faster (28:42)
  • Creating value for customers to come over and sign up on your email list (31:15)
  • The best strategies for email marketing and leveraging on pop ups (35:53)
  • Giving the urgency and scarcity that makes customers act right there and then (39:40)
  • Moving forward with this vision of creating experiences around her products that will help people enjoy them (42:42)

The Truth About Shiny Object Syndrome

Have you ever found yourself in a state wherein you are always chasing the latest, greatest tool, social media platform, product, etc? Of course, the bare problem within this problem is that one chases the newest thing and never completes the older thing. If that’s you, you’ve fallen victim to the shiny object syndrome.

You never see any substantial results after your initial efforts. Eventually, you interpret this lack of result as a lack of ability on your part. And maybe you even throw the towel in all together. And you burn through the cash.

Most people I know who tried to start a business online do so because they really needed to earn some extra money. I've known people like - maybe he spent a little money over here on this monthly subscription to have some must-have tool that he used only for two weeks and a little money over there to have someone build a website they never market, and a little over here to buy yet another program, because it's going to be the one that solves all their problems.

You get the point - jumping from one ship to the next. When all of those ships have an entry fee that can really add up. And you drive your family crazy. You drive yourself and your family nuts. We are constantly in a state of searching for the answers, and we never commit to one path.

Let me help you think about your goals. In this episode, I want you to start to peel away the shiny object syndrome, so that you can get clarity and can live your best Because It Can life. So stay tuned.

Are There Other Options?
00:33:38

In this episode, I am joined by Ayelet Shipley, the 23-year-old founder of AnxietySecretsToolbox.com, and the host of the Get Out of Bed, Out of Your Head podcast where she shares her journey of overcoming anxiety, going into entrepreneurship, and thriving at it. She also does interviews on her podcast with subject matters experts and other people within her age group who have achieved similar milestones.

The story of how she got into entrepreneurship is really quite fascinating. It all started when she attended ClickFunnels’ Unlock the Secrets conference in Denver with her dad. She was getting her graduate degree in social work and was not really interested in business, but she just went to the event to spend time with her dad. There her dad introduced her to Ryan Lee of Cashflow Tactics who was there with his 12-year-old daughter. Ryan told her that he and his daughter had the idea of doing something to help kids with anxiety and depression, and she shared with them how she had struggled with anxiety and depression almost all her life, and how important it was to talk about it. Ryan looked down at his daughter and said, “See. You're not alone.”

That was the defining moment for Ayelet, where she realized that she could help so many people by being vulnerable, sharing her story, and using all her knowledge to build the tools that would help people, especially young people, overcome anxiety and become the best version of themselves. So she started her podcast and the Anxiety Secrets Toolbox, and six months into it, she has already impacted so many lives and aims at impacting one million people. Ayelet’s story will be super inspirational for any young person, or a parent to a young person. So if you’re in any of those two categories, you should tune in to this episode, because it will change your life for the better.

Key Takeaways:

  • Running your future versus your future running you: Teaching our kids that there are other options besides going to college (02:55)
  • From clinical social work Masters student to entrepreneur within 6 months (05:25)
  • How she overcame a lot of fears, nerves, and anxiety to start her podcast and business (09:29)
  • Advice for young people on starting a business versus going for the typical nine to five job (14:11)
  • What her parents did to open up the relevant doors that led her into entrepreneurship (18:41)
  • How a non-entrepreneur parent can still help their child pursue entrepreneurship (22:06)
  • The future, the program she’s creating, and the lives that she’s changing (25:50)

What If They Say "No"? Tips On Working With Influencers
00:34:29

Have you ever been nervous to reach out to an influencer to promote your business? Like what if they tell you “no”? What if they ignore you?

Lidia from Bodoke Kids had the same thoughts less than a year ago. In this episode, she shares with us tricks that helped her to calm the nerves and grow her business well beyond the six-figure mark.

I've been able to follow her journey, and she's been sending me screenshots of the success that she's been having with influencers.

She sent me a screenshot that showed over $4,900 in sales on August 1st, and she went on to tell me that her goal was to hit $5,000 by the end of the month. And then, by the end of her two-day promotion, she'd hit well over $10,000.

So after learning the power of influencer marketing, she's been able to push those fears aside and in this episode, she's going to pull out the secrets to creating those winning situations with influencers and how she went on to build her powerful business that she and her husband Nick now run from home.

Stay tuned to know more.

Key Points of Discussion:

  • How Lidia knew how the Internet was so powerful (7:29)
  • They looked everywhere, but since Lidia is inclined to babies… (7:52)
  • The first batch of inventory they bought was only for $40 (8:46)
  • They put it on a deal site after taking my course; got a good ROI (9:33)
  • After doing deal sites and a Shopify store, she built an Instagram account (11:58)
  • She was following examples of these amazing women (12:49)
  • She just started working on connections with moms (12:55)
  • “I sell only what I think I would buy for my own kids.” (15:29)
  • Setting a timer to be on Instagram (16:54)
  • Being genuine on what you're doing, getting to know them, and their kids (17:54)
  • You just need to go out there and find and see what works best for you (22:30)
  • How did she break through being shy in approaching influencers? (23:07)
  • You start at the bottom, you take one step at a time (31:57)

How She Got To $20K A Month
00:32:21

The power of the Internet is like your personal jet and yet, some of you are still walking. Get in the jet.

You have got an idea, a product or a message, but you kind of feel like your voice is getting lost in this chaotic world or the product that you're offering is just getting drowned out. Maybe you're working your guts out, but you don't feel like things are happening and you're not getting anywhere and any money that you make just gets eaten up by stuff you didn't even plan for.

This episode has the intention of breaking you free and moving you in a true forward Beyoncé on a jet motion.

I'm going to call it this one Beyoncé in a jet with a tank full of gas and how you can join her.

I also tell you about an email that I got from one of my students about how she just hit $20,000 for the month because she found out about the Beyoncé in a jet method, but let's think about that $20,000. This amount of money was just about two-thirds of what I made as a junior high teacher in a year, and she did that in a month.

Seven months ago, this single mom of three kids made about a 1,000 dollars over the course of a year and in her business, she had tried a few things, but it really just wasn't sticking. Money was not flowing, when she learned the way a business really works.

She's learning that she can create a lifestyle business around her kids versus being stuck in a nine-to-five job plus trying to handle a part-time job as well. She's learned the skill she needs to create money over and over, time and time again.

She's also now teaching her children on how to make this their reality too. She's not only changing her life, but she's changing her kids' lives too as they get to watch their mom do things that she dreamed about because she's learning to make money.

Just get off that hamster wheel. What if I help you find what you need to get off your wheel without having to have an employee?

Stay tuned for those steps…

Key Takeaways:

  • A year ago, this single mom of three kids was so tired of not living (3:02)
  • Money was not flowing, when she learned the way a business works (3:47)
  • She’s flying past all of her expectations - $20,000 a month (3:57)
  • She's not only changing her life, but she's changing her kids' lives too (4:51)
  • The biggest epiphany moment of all of my business (6:31)
  • In weeks, I went from $20/hr to 35 doing about the same amount of work (8:19)
  • Steps to get off your hamster wheel - No. 1: You need to get in your jet (10:25)
  • Speeding up the growth of your business by using influencers (11:52)
  • Sell the stuff that you have sitting in your basement collecting dust… (13:49)
  • Getting on the learning jet: Why not invest in an online course? (15:14)
  • Get your products into a shipping facility (18:59)
  • Moving fast - You're automating or outsourcing the busy work (22:50)
  • Some of us are just stuck with a mentality that we're going to run out... (23:56)

How She Went From 0 to 87 Stores w/ Natalia Riboldi
00:44:12

In this episode, I am joined by Natalia Riboldi of NatandNoor.com. She told me she thought I was missing out on interviewing some people that were just starting that may have questions - that were in the trenches still and weren't quite sure what to do.

And in fact, she volunteered to come on the podcast towards addressing some of those issues.

She shares with us how she went from zero to 87 stores in a short period of time.

She says something about getting lucky because she had a friend that was in a business and a boutique.

But really, one increases their luck by working.

So yes, she may have had that first friend that sparked that idea, but she had to get on the road, she had to send the emails, you had to made the calls, she had to get uncomfortable for her to increase her luck.

I don't think it was the opened-up opportunities for her to get into the 87 stores that she did. So I think yes, one can look at it as luck, but I also think it was a lot of her hard work that went into it.

Stay tuned as we dive deeper and I go on to answer the questions she has.

Key Points of Discussion:

  • She graduated with a degree in oil painting - She’s always loved the arts (6:07)
  • She started focusing on creating works of art and selling them (6:28)
  • She had bought some earrings and invited people. She sold 20 pairs (9:34)
  • Doing wholesale to actual physical stores has spelt success for her (13:29)
  • Her future growth plans; things she wants to figure out (14:43)
  • Pulling in products other than earrings to attract a wider audience (18:22)
  • Natalia says online wholesalers really got her into the 87 stores (23:31)
  • Constantly trying to think of new things to just make it fun (26:11)
  • Connecting with influencers; creating a win-win situation (27:22)
  • About ClickFunnels and Shopify (32:13)
  • About giveaways with social media (36:43)

More Than A Teacher's Annual Salary In A Day w/ Kati Oliver
00:29:59

In this episode, I am joined by Kati Oliver, who was a school teacher last year, when she doubled her annual salary in a day. She crushed her business goals in 2019 by selling out before Cyber Weekend even started and hit six figures in the first 15 days of November.

And that’s not all - Just up until recently, she was able to hit sales numbers with just one product. That’s right - not a complete collection or a huge store of products. It was one offer.

In this interview, I ask her questions that I've seen others ask her in my zero to a hundred K Facebook group.

Kati tells us a little bit of her background as also how and why she started an online business.

How did she manage to make it a priority to focus on her business? In what way are her kids in it? Is it Facebook ads or influencer marketing that has driven the sales? How did she figure everything out with no background in business or sales or product manufacturing? What are her future plans?

Stay tuned to know the answers and join the dots.

How Much Does It Cost To Start?
00:31:07

In this episode, we talk about the cost of getting an online shop up and going. Maybe you're wondering what the cost of an online store is to see if it's even worth it for you.

You probably want to know the hidden costs, the unexpected things that might throw you off.

Is it easy to start an online store? Honestly, I try never to use the word “easy” in business-building and if I do, let me know. Building something that you are proud of takes time and effort, especially at first.

It follows the easy hard rule. What is that? Well, if it is easy now, it's going to be hard in the future. And if it's hard now, it's going to be easy in the future.

So, how much does it cost to start an online eCommerce store? Well, I suppose if you're going to launch a competitor to Amazon, it's going to cost you a lot, right?

Well, you can go into debt, spending thousands of dollars in inventory, having custom built eCommerce websites, hire a team to handle all your customer service and all your shipping and all that stuff.

Or you can grow your business one profitable sale at a time. Reinvesting those products to buy more inventory to expand your business. Does it take longer? Yeah, but it works. So if you are stressed out about the money, guess what? There are ways that you can make this work.

If you have money to go into it, great. You're just going to be able to grow faster. You've either got time or you've either got money and those are the two things that can help you grow your business faster. If you don't have money, you're going to have to spend more time.

If you are a stay-at-home mom who needs some extra income to support her family, you can get started by using basically dryer change, some garage sale proceeds and a little imagination.

We talk about what you need to pay for and what you don't.

We delve into your product offer too.

Just get cash for the stuff that you already have lying around in your house. Take that cash and buy some inventory to sell to your products, and remember - Buy small - You need to test it out. Get your online booth or shop. I use Shopify and recommend Shopify to get started - It’s $30 a month.

Stay tuned as we dig deeper into what it takes...

Key Takeaways:

  • When you feel you just broke even or lost money, look at what you learned (8:02)
  • Is it easy to start an online store? (11:06)
  • How much does it cost to start an online eCommerce store? (14:30)
  • Dryer change, some garage sale proceeds and a little imagination… (14:56)
  • Get a business license (15:09)
  • LLCs or sole proprietors? Find out what’s right for you (15:36)
  • Sell something you’re not using anymore to pay for your business license (16:27)
  • You need something to sell - Look at what’s gathering dust in your house (16:39)
  • Invest that cash into some inventory to be able to sell to your customers (18:39)
  • Don't buy a ton of inventory - Test your products (19:33)
  • Start on Shopify. It's going to save you so much stress and frustration (20:29)
  • Shipping: Amazon’s there; someone else can ship out products for you (22:24)
  • You want some pretty branding on your packages; go to VistaPrints.com (23:14)
  • If you are selling on other people's sites, make sure you know their rules (25:10)

How To Grow FB Organically w/ Rachel Miller
00:32:20

In this episode, I bring in Rachel Miller, who is pretty much famous in the Facebook online marketing world because she has found the trick to grow your business FB page organically.

Yes, organically, with zero money. Can you imagine what it would be like to grow your page to thousands of followers or even millions of followers without paying Facebook? It works.

How do I know? I have actually been friends with Rachel for quite a while now and she has shared with me some of the tricks of the trade and we went from a couple hundred thousand followers to over 2.2 million followers on How Does She, one of my Facebook pages, and we did it in just a couple of years.

Then I took my eCommerce business before I sold it to over 400,000 followers with zero Facebook ad spend, and these weren't fake followers. These were people that I got to serve and sell to every day.

Now, I don't want those numbers to intimidate you. You might be thinking: “Alison, I just want a hundred. No way could I or no way would I want to get to a million followers.”

Well, the good news for you is that the rules have changed a bit in Facebook land. It's more about community over numbers right now, so smaller numbers or follower accounts can convert just as high as big numbers if you have the right people.

In this episode, Rachel dives into how you can find your perfect people and even influencers by asking the right questions on your page. She also talks about what to do if you're not getting any comments on your posts.

Key Points of Discussion:

  • Being a stay-at-home mom, Rachel wanted to connect with other people... (5:18)
  • The right audience, message and content can help fulfil your purpose (9:34)
  • Making a difference with people spending their time or money (10:46)
  • If you're looking for people who have audiences, build a relationship… (11:51)
  • Take your product out of it and talk about the other person first (16:58)
  • They're there not to talk about their pain, not to talk about you (19:39)
  • On your profile, have one thing that's going to help them trust you more (21:47)
  • Have one call to action - we don’t want our audience to be confused (23:49)
  • You need to make it stupid easy for people to understand (26:13)
  • If I had a business question, I need to go where those biz people are (27:53)
  • Make sure if the content lifts your audience up (28:33)
  • Once you have some of your perfect people, begin tagging them… (28:55)

I Hope No One Finds This Out - Yearly Review 2019
00:29:07

It’s that time of the year. As I ring out the old and ring in the new, a particular exercise I engage in leaves me more focused for the upcoming year.

I usually put three things down on a piece of paper that I'm proud of doing and three things that I hope no one finds out. I then try and figure out the lessons that I was supposed to learn from them.

This is so hard for me to do. It's easy to point out other people's mistakes, but pointing out your own and then telling the world... That is a hard pill to swallow, but I do it every year because it leaves me more focused for the upcoming year.

I think we should take a minute to be kind to ourselves while we rewind on the past.

If you stop and look back and see the things that you've actually done, you'll see the hurdles, and the successes that you've accomplished.

That indeed helps us be kind to ourselves because we've been through some really hard stuff over the last year and we've been able to step it up and become stronger.

Stay tuned as I give you a five-part template that'll help you go about the process.

Key Takeaways:

  • You're going to write down where you were a year ago (6:59)
  • Write down things that make you sick, including embarrassing things (7:09)
  • Write down the things that you are super proud you accomplished (7:29)
  • Write down three lessons learned from the good and three from the bad (8:05)
  • Pick out a word of the year that you are going to live by (8:23)
  • Talking about the bad first and then going into the good… (8:43)
  • It’s much easier to blame someone else than take our own responsibility (10:40)
  • Zeroing in on my priorities about actually what was getting results (14:26)
  • I needed to focus on the experts of the things I truly wanted to learn (16:38)
  • Shifting my thoughts from something like negative body image... (16:51)
  • Cleaning out the house was liberating; living in Puerto Rico feels good (19:41)
  • The more freaked out you are, the bigger your success is going to be (21:50)
  • Being busy and feeling busy are completely different things (24:56)
  • Focusing on the less to get more results (25:58)

How Kati's Been Able To Get Influencers Pounding On Her Door
00:33:08

In this episode, I share with you the story of Kati Evans - how these last seven months have completely changed her life. Kati talks about the switch from the work of setting up a boutique every month and bringing her inventory out - something she didn’t love - versus focusing on a product that she loves, and working at home.

This business-building hasn't just changed her bank account. It is giving her so much more. As she gushes: “If I was still doing boutiques, I would've never had the opportunity to actually create a product and just going through that process. And so it's changed my life financially, but it's changed my life to where I'm learning so much.”

She goes on: “I'm learning to be creative and I'm learning how to run a business and so more than just the financial end, it's really given me this sense of importance and belonging of something that I truly value.” No wonder then, that she effuses: “Oh, it's amazing. E-commerce is just amazing.”

Stay tuned as in this episode, not only will you get to hear how she's been able to get influencers pounding on her door, but also the ripple effect that her product is creating. You'll also hear us talking about a challenge that I put on called The 21 Days to Find your Perfect Product this last fall. This challenge completely changed how Kati thinks about herself.

Key Points of Discussion:

  • It was getting exhausting, so Kati wanted to get into e-commerce (4:35)
  • She sold home decor… She thought: “What am I passionate about?” (6:20)
  • Wanting to focus on families, she brought out family tradition products (6:52)
  • Starting in the middle of April, she hit $100,000 in sales last month (7:51)
  • A 21-day Challenge from me got her to zero in on what she wanted to sell (9:55)
  • That 21-day journey has helped her in her personal life too (11:09)
  • The Challenge helped her sell her house for $50,000 more (15:00)
  • Her family has been a huge part of this journey (17:34)
  • They will roll out four new family tradition products this year (19:56)
  • They offer a journal, where you ask your family their highs & lows (20:14)

Should You Lower Your Prices?
00:23:22

Should you drop the price of your product to match or even go lower than your competitors, or even go lower than or match Amazon prices so that you can sell more? That was one of the questions I got from my students. I think some of you are actually having the same question.

Maybe you've looked at products that you want to sell and you're like “I'm not going to be able to make any money if I price match that. And so I just don't want to sell it because I'm not about to work for free,” and I'm with you right there. I don’t want you to be a volunteer in your own business. You should be making money. That's what businesses do.

Maybe you have that feeling that you have to continually drop prices in your online store to beat out the competition or you won't make any sales.

Well, I get that feeling. I actually get that feeling way too much. But if you look at the big picture on the way of this thinking, it's like a rat race to the bottom where someone will be willing to beat you out on the price.

And I say: “Let them - they can work for pennies. You are worth way more than that.” Stay tuned as I show you in this episode that the race to the bottom is never the solution to online sales success - It all comes down to delivering what I call the concert experience.

Key Takeaways:

  • When you feel you have to continually drop prices in your online store… (6:41)
  • They can work for pennies. You are worth way more than that (7:43)
  • Odds are you're willing to pay more to shop in the online store you love (9:28)
  • Your online boutique or store can deliver an entire concert experience (11:31)
  • How to win while you keep the prices where they need to be (13:12)
  • By adding more value to the product, you can stand out (14:32)
  • You can copy public domain content sans permission or paying fees (14:54)
  • Fiverr, Etsy, Canva, and Pinterest can help deliver the concert experience (15:16)
  • How great would it be to have a concert brought to your house? (17:05)
  • About returning a product, and free shipping… (18:06)
  • You could offer a chatbox on your website (19:05)
  • With every package I ship out, I add a piece of Laffy Taffy candy (19:20)
  • Your product packaging can also make for that concert experience (20:15)
  • Delivering that wow-worthy experience in a simple yet effective way (20:27)
  • Fostering a customer base that is loyal to you and your brand (21:45)

How To Go From A Simple Brown Box To A BIG Branded Product
00:36:00

In this episode, I'm bringing in Dave Lindenbaum, the King of DIY kits. He's going to dive into how he legally collects emails from Amazon. Some of you know Amazon doesn't let you collect emails. In fact, they can shut you down, but the way he does it, you're going to actually be able to experience it.

And then he's also going to dive into how he started his own DIY kit company. When I started Pick Your Plum, I had some kits here and there - it was really kind of just this awkwardness of trying to pull things together.

Well, Dave talks about that same thing about how he put his product out and then how he started building it and how it has truly become the number one DIY selling kit on Amazon. He dives in and pulls back the curtain so that you can do things like this as well. So stay tuned.

Key Points of Discussion:

  • After two years in finance, Dave realized there’d got to be more to life (5:19)
  • Fast forward, I took a couple of years to travel the world (8:18)
  • In Los Angeles, he met a tea company owner. He was his first hire (9:10)
  • … And one day, he drank something called kombucha (9:49)
  • The first $300 in a month brought in a light bulb moment (13:57)
  • Selling the experience, empowerment, ownership of creating something (14:54)
  • How the next company, DIY Gift Kits, was born (15:09)
  • “Whatever your passion is, it can be expressed through your business.” (16:02)
  • Doing the market research (21:09)
  • Leverage other people's marketplaces that have done the work for you (22:15)
  • Taking your winnings and reinvesting (23:31)
  • Done is better than perfect (24:21)
  • A bridge page can help you know, like, trust, capture emails... (29:55)

Is Shipping Stopping You?
00:20:50

Way too many people think that running an e-commerce business or an online store or any type of online business that ships out a physical product is virtually impossible. Maybe that's you. You're thinking that starting an online business means you have to be right there, touching the product, packing and shipping it. Well, you actually don't have to ship them out yourself at all.

I've been shipping products out for over nine years, and for pretty much all that time, I haven't personally packed or shipped any products.

I know how to do it - shipping, that is. I just choose not to. I realized that the secret to selling more is hiring that part out so that I can concentrate on growing my business and marketing my products.

In this episode, you’ll be getting my tips on how to create the online store while you can live the lifestyle you choose and the place you want, the place you need or the place that you have to be. Stay tuned.

Key Takeaways:

  • I realized that the secret to selling more is hiring the shipping part out (4:55)
  • All of that can happen if you have the systems in place (6:26)
  • Set up your store online, and I recommend Shopify (7:54)
  • Get a sample of the products that you want to sell (9:28)
  • After you've approved your product, now it's time to play. Dress up (10:45)
  • Order the minimum product quantity needed to sell on your online shop (11:06)
  • Get out there. Let your customers know how awesome your products are (11:31)
  • You can either hire shipping out locally or use a fulfillment center (11:39)
  • The questions I get asked about hiring locally, and fulfillment centers (13:27)
  • Shippers usually don't make hundreds of dollars per hour. Biz owners do (19:14)

How She Did 6 Figure In 7 Months
00:35:50

In this episode, I interview one of my students, Megan Pyrah. We talk about so many topics that I think a lot of female entrepreneurs deal with.

She reflects on how she convinced her family, her kids, instead of doing the dreaded lemonade stand on the corner, to actually start an online business and how that resulted in their kids making hundreds of dollars of sales online versus like the $10 that you make on the corner selling lemonade.

Stay tuned as we dig into how she made six figures in seven months, and the thing that helped her to make this her goal. And then, we dive into the mom guilt and we talk about how she can kick that while she is still working.

Key Points of Discussion:

  • The start: Blogging, social media, physical products, digital marketing… (2:50)
  • One summer, Megan's two youngest boys wanted to do a lemonade stand (4:13)
  • A year into her family biz, she saw an ad for my webinar and signed up… (5:06)
  • Her sons found products, launched them, packed orders, and earned (7:07)
  • Diving more into my course, the family listened to what I taught them (8:36)
  • Being consistent over and over again, no matter what month it is (13:02)
  • “Don't let your family be the excuse for not going for your dreams” (14:01)
  • Her “why” is big enough in what her business goals are (15:03)
  • Journaling and figuring out where she needs to spend her time that day… (15:44)
  • Megan shares her goals with her family members; they inspire each other (17:01)
  • About mom guilt: “Bring them along with you; explain what you're doing” (22:07)
  • “The more products you put out, the less scary it gets” (25:44)

She Failed Her Way To 6 Figures
00:20:47

In this episode, I’ll be telling you about a gal I've been coaching for a while on how to grow her business, and she's done over six figures. The interesting thing is the way she's gotten there: by what the world would call "failing". In fact, she earned her first hundred thousand dollars by failing.

Wouldn't you want to make six figures by failing? You can say "Heck yes" out loud if you want to, because who wouldn't want to earn triple a teacher's salary by failing?

Can you imagine having all your products mixed up together in a huge lump, and your products are smaller than a grain of sand? Yeah, not fun. And that’s what happened to her.

She looked around at what was happening, and decided to create a story about the event. Instead of throwing her hands up in the air, walking away, she created a new product about what happened.

A lot of us have a hard time when we think we failed. Let's face it: No one wants to feel like a failure. But what if we think of it more like a bump or disruption that is supposed to happen so we can actually get to the thing that we are headed to.

What if that bump or distraction is actually to get us on the right course? We've all got bumps in our way. That's part of life. But as humans, it can be in our nature to get so focused on the actual bump or disruption that we can totally miss out on the thing that's actually being handed to us.

Now, I might sound cliched, but it’s a time-honored truth nonetheless: At the end of the day, it’s about spotting opportunities even in failures.

Stay tuned as I share a few tips on looking at your bumps, distractions, and failures as a gift to help you get to your goals faster.

Key Takeaways:

  • She was telling her story about how she sells glitter (2:09)
  • Ended up with loads of spilled colorful glitter everywhere (2:46)
  • She didn't know how she was going to fix the problem (3:07)
  • She told the story of how her daughter created a new glitter recipe (4:02)
  • She bottled up spilled colors and created recipe cards (4:09)
  • Customers ate this up and actually requested more recipes (4:27)
  • Often, there has to be disruption before you get to success or mastery (6:16)
  • Repetitive use of a limited ability will produce an increased capacity (6:27)
  • That lonely seed living in the darkness actually has to crack… (8:18)
  • A baby learning to walk goes down time and time again… (9:06)
  • Investing into learning from someone who's been down the path before (9:28)
  • Learning to work through the disruption and use it as part of our story (10:10)
  • I just hadn't realized that first bump in the road was my greatest teacher (10:32)
  • I had to decide if I was going to let these bumps stop me or prove me (12:32)
  • I kept doing it, day in and day out, for years, even though it felt impossible (13:13)
  • The very first bump that helped me solidify my promise to myself (13:23)
  • How I look at my bump, distraction or my so-called failure differently (14:11)
  • No. 1: Acknowledge it didn't go as planned (that was actually the plan) (14:31)
  • No. 2: Remove the emotion by putting on your middle name face (15:34)
  • No. 3: Look at every obstacle as an opportunity (17:37)
  • No. 4: Put a plant or a picture of a plant next to your workspace (18:00)
  • What must go down before it can go up? Humans, seeds, bank accounts (18:18)

What REALLY Works Today
00:29:18

In this episode, I will be diving into some of the business styles or platforms that I've personally used to develop a multi eight-figure business while still balancing life.

If you're here to make money, or if you are here to build the online dream brand, you are in the right spot, because that's what I like to show you how to make money, put it in your pocket, and afford to live your Because I Can life. There are so many ways to make it happen, and I bet you've heard different things about building a business online, that leaves your head spinning. Maybe you've started to wonder if only unicorns of the world are the ones actually making money online. Maybe you are actually starting to hate unicorns.

There are many promises out there of how to make big bucks and get rich quick, and it can leave you with all sorts of emotions. Like, are they lying? Is this too good to be true? Or on the flip side, it takes you down the slippery slope of thinking that there might just be something wrong with you, because you haven't gotten it yet, whatever that is in your head that you're dreaming about. Do you ever feel that way?

Now, to be honest with you, I know that I felt this way when I first got started and it was a black cloud. When you hear all these success stories and you're still trying to figure out how to set up your first website, it's like a slap upside the head, and you feel like you're getting further and further behind each day.

I'm here to tell you the truth about building a business, what it's like and show you how you can fit it in while you're still managing your sanity and trying to be the best mom that you can be.

I know there are other ways to make money online out there, but I know for a fact that what I'm about to tell you works, because not only I have done it, I've also watched others do it. Stay tuned to know more.

Key Takeaways:

  • An online home that has a place for customers to come back to (5:19)
  • Pick your home - pick something that you can control and own (6:37)
  • Business building’s supposed to get messy. Keep going despite chaos (8:26)
  • Think about your current project, not how your brand will look in 10 years (8:48)
  • You have to show them the vision of why they should come over (9:20)
  • Building a business is about the process, not the product or one platform (10:34)
  • Three business platforms that, I know, work (12:07)
  • No. 1: A blog: It helps you get your message out to the world (12:21)
  • Ad space, affiliate commissions, and selling products of your own (13:15)
  • You can write out posts for a month; your blog can auto post them (14:24)
  • You can put in links from other online stores, like Amazon (15:03)
  • You can speed up this process greatly if you sell your own products (16:03)
  • Using social media heavily to get your content out to the world (16:18)
  • You need to study something called search engine optimization (16:25)
  • No.2: E-commerce: For me, it’s the fastest way to make money online (17:46)
  • A physical product invokes a feeling they can hold it, touch it (18:49)
  • It's too risky for me developing something that I hope someone will buy (19:41)
  • Don't spend lots of money when you first get started; there is no need to (20:39)
  • You don't have to be creative about what to sell. What's already selling? (21:04)
  • You can set up an online store and it can take money for you, 24*7 (21:09)
  • You can set up promotions around your schedule (21:23)
  • Use marketplaces and even influencers to talk about your products (21:56)
  • You've got to ship out, but I actually recommend hiring that out (22:16)
  • No. 3: Course creation: You teach someone online about something... (22:28)
  • Once you build it, you can sell it over and over and over (23:54)
  • First, you have to help others recreate what you have done (24:08)
  • You have to be the face of your brand (25:10)
  • I am a huge fan of buying online courses and online coaching (26:02)
  • Taking it up, one project at a time, to get to that vision in your head (27:06)

The 5 Stages Of Growth
00:19:22

You've got your business set up and you're running, and then you start to feel like: “Oh, maybe this isn't for me” or “Maybe I should try something else.” Or you begin to wonder why it seems so easy for everyone else as you start scrolling through Instagram. Or what about the time you're really excited about something and you couldn't sleep, and you just couldn't stop talking about it? Or the complete opposite, and you're finding it really hard to feel motivated and to keep going. And then another one: You know you should probably start something. Or you have this idea in your head and you're thinking you should probably start to do something about it.

Well, I want to give you the big picture to help you see where you're at and help you answer not only those questions but some of the other questions you might have about why you're feeling the way you feel, so that you can see where you're at and you can see where you're headed. Okay. Now, if this sounds a little confusing, I promise I'm going to break it down so that you understand. I’m going to talk about the five phases of growth in this episode.

I think this episode is going to give you some massive aha moments and help you start feeling calmer with where you're at in your journey, so stay tuned.

Key Takeaways:

  • At times, we forget what we're doing; we get frustrated with ourselves (2:34)
  • The five stages of growth: What stage do you fit in the best? (4:33)
  • No. 1: Awareness phase; knowing that something is about to happen (4:42)
  • No. 2: Bliss phase; this is where thoughts and ideas start coming together (5:37)
  • No. 3: Reality phase; you realize that this takes a whole new skillset (7:27)
  • Having a teacher, a coach, a mentor, or a group to guide you through (8:58)
  • Your brain will try and talk you right out of it, but you have to keep going (9:38)
  • Training your brain and telling your brain that you deserve this (11:45)
  • No. 4: Mini win phase; it still requires a focus
  • In stage four, your brain is still trying to talk you out of learning (12:31)
  • Training your brain to know that you are going to be consistent with it (13:00)
  • No. 5: Success phase; it doesn't light up our brain and boredom sets in (14:02)
  • When we start to get bored, we begin to go to the aware stage again (15:04)
  • These stages help make us better than we were yesterday (15:47)
  • The majority of people quit at stage three (17:22)

Getting Past The Big Huge Fat Lies That Our Brains Make Up
00:15:55

You're sitting in your chair, looking at your computer or your phone. You have 10 bajillion things you need to do and you don't even know where to start. And then, these thoughts start to creep in your head, like, "Oh, I have so much to do. I don't even know where to start" or "I'm not smart enough" or "I'm not sure I can even do that," or "I need to go get a Coke Zero" or insert your beverage of choice "before I can even get started". Or "Sure they can do it, but I'm just me and I'm not that good. I don't even really know how to do this. Maybe I should just look into this more and study it a little bit more," or "They can do it better than I can."

Some call them fear or excuses, but I call them big huge fat lies that our brain makes up to keep us comfortable. It's a brilliant way that our brain tricks us into staying safe. It's a lot easier to stay where you are than to move forward. Moving forward, trying new things, can be so risky, and our brain is made to keep us safe.

We know it is so much easier to go get that drink out of the fridge because it's not going to make us feel like a failure. So we push off the hard things and do the safe things. It's almost like these thoughts run rapid in our brains on a daily basis, and it causes us to stop and spiral quickly.

All the same, deep down, you have this feeling inside of you that you can't as shake, that you are not where you want to be in this life. So, how to nudge yourself into moving forward? That’s what I’ll be talking about in this episode. Stay tuned.

Key Takeaways:

  • When our brain takes us to the worst case scenario faster than we realize (5:45)
  • Lies you’re falling back on are much stronger than the promises of hope (6:41)
  • Knowing the truth from a lie: Things that have helped me and my students (7:39)
  • Number one: Recognize it; call that dang thing out (8:05)
  • Number two: Have an answer so you can anticipate it (9:40)
  • Number three: If you give into the lie, be honest with yourself (11:37)
  • Number four: Build your tool belt; embrace the hiccups and the trips (12:38)
  • Number five: Go for a run or a walk (13:22)
  • Allow yourself to step into who you need to be, and to set fear aside (15:03)

How You Can Succeed Even If You Aren't A Natural Born Entrepreneur
00:17:53

I feel this need, this inner prompting, to share with you a bigger story that I haven't really done online yet.

It's a story that sounds too good to be true, and maybe that's why I struggle with it.

I'm not fancy. I wasn't blessed with a brilliant mind or an eloquent way of speaking. I've been looked over, unheard, and sometimes, I just blend in.

I'm not sure if I have any natural-born talents, as I feel pretty average. All the same, I think the only thing it takes is a dream, a desire, and to not be afraid to get to work.

To give you some of what I have learned across all the businesses that I've run, I've found one common thread that is the key to making them successful.

And I believe, that is to know how to market.

In this episode, I’ll be giving you a template to market your product.

Do you sell products or do you provide products that help change someone's lives? I never want you to sell your product to make money. It doesn't work. I want you to market your product and sell the reason that your customer has to have whatever it is that you are offering.

Remember, marketing is the act of analyzing the market and understanding the needs in such a way that whatever product is launched, it sells itself. To know more, stay tuned.

Key Takeaways:

  • It doesn’t take being flashy, hugely gifted to be able to do great things (2:11)
  • I was born with a feeling that I was meant to make others’ lives better (3:25)
  • The moment that defined my dream for me (5:32)
  • I was trying to figure it out on my own in that paycheck-to-paycheck life (7:06)
  • From $28,000 a year to building for multiple million dollar businesses (7:16)
  • I didn't think people would believe me that I had figured it out (7:35)
  • A few years ago, I was reminded what my ultimate dream was (8:20)
  • My goal, my purpose, is to show you how to make money (8:57)
  • I've taught many how to get their first hundred thousand dollars in sales (10:00)
  • For me, eCommerce is the fastest way to six figures online (10:07)
  • Making money online via physical, digital, or content-driven products (10:50)
  • Marketing - a skill to learn in business, in parenting, and in your own head (11:41)
  • Get your brain thinking of what type of marketing your business is in (13:24)
  • Stop selling the product. Sell the dream (13:39)
