128: Good Riddance, Florida; Norris Returns; Forsberg May Have More Game Than People Think
Ain't no sunshine for the Sens in the Sunshine state. The Sens get outclassed by both Florida teams and suddenly the Sens have lost 5 of their last 6. We both think it's probably healthy for young team like the Senators to get a dose of two top 5 teams at their best, playing heavy skilled hockey and help  get a feel for the level they need to be at. It was a tough game for Josh Norris to merge back into action. Anton Forsberg is starting to win Gregg over and it's remarkable how few NHL games he's actually gotten to play in his career. We discuss what the Sens may look like in April after the deadline and what they need to do this summer. In our poll today, how are you currently feeling about Brady Tkachuk's handling of his contract negotiations? Most aren't very happy with the Tkachuk group. Meanwhile, Alex Formenton looked pretty damn good at top line LW Friday.

A few thoughts on Wednesday's loss to Toronto. Analyzing Zach Sanford for Logan Brown deal. Yes, the coach is pumped that we no longer have to discuss Logan Brown. 086: Pierre Dorion on Day One of Camp: "The Rebuild is Over." Is it Really Over Or Is There More to Do?

Today we discuss Pierre Dorion's fairly bold claim that the rebuild is over. If "the rebuild is over" and you start to think about every player and prospect in their prime - do the Senators now have what it takes to someday win a Stanley Cup? Who will (vs who should) replace Brady Tkachuk on the top line? Is Nick Paul the right choice? Chris Tierney starts as the number two centre and Shane Pinto has earned nothing yet. What's Erik Brannstrom status, will best guys really play, as they claim? Sounds like Sokolov will be in Belleville for his own good, and Angus Crookshank will be gone 4-6 months.

DJ Smith wants White to work on a few things. NINE things!

What's the latest on Tim Stützle? What's gotten into Nikita Zaitsev? Could Artem Zub add some more Russian magic to the blue line on the trip? He and Christian Wolanin will both get in at some point on this trip.

Thomas Chabot had a fine home stand but closed with one of the worst defensive games of his young career.

We discuss lineup possibilities and expectations for the road trip.

042: A NEW SEASON IS HERE!! The Roster is All Set; What's up with Colin White? Will Logan Brown Now be Traded?

After 10 months, the Sens are finally back in action, with two games against the Leafs and three against the Jets.

Why has Colin White's stock fallen? Or has it fallen at all? Maybe just sending a message? White doesn't seem fazed and talks about the kind of training camp he had.

After failing to make the team, Gregg thinks Logan Brown will now be traded.

We look at the opening weekend roster and line matchups.

Bidding farewell to Balcers and Lajoie.

038: NHL Season Begins to Take Shape, But Will COVID Allow It? Top 5 Sens Prospects; The Rift with Alfie

NHL reportedly going with 56 games.  Two sides remain focused on Dec 31 camp start for non-playoff teams. Jan 3rd camp start for the rest of the league. Jan 13th start to 2020-2021 regular season.

Owners tried to circle back on the deal, asking the players to defer a bigger chunk of their salaries and then also dump more money into an escrow account.

Realignment will feature an all Canadian division

Now that the league’s financial differences have been squared away, the fate of the new season probably rests mostly with public health officials.

The big challenge for Ottawa will be getting everyone on the same page. Returning players will need a refresher course and there could be as many as 13 players who weren’t full-time members of the club last season.

Two-thirds of the league’s owners must approve it and that’s the one possible internal roadblock: owners with cash flow troubles, who aren’t willing to weather this storm. Their arenas will be empty (or mostly empty) for every home game and now there’s no financial help coming from the players’ side. Sure, the NHL has an excellent TV deal, at least by its standards. But it’s not the NFL, which has TV money to burn and doesn’t need to actually sell tickets to turn a profit. On its own, the NHL’s TV arrangement simply doesn’t inject enough revenue for every owner to pay all their bills. So, there will absolutely be some teams who vote not to play this season at all. Are there more than ten teams like that? We’ll find out soon enough.

NHL realignment

“Thomas Chabot and Brady Tkachuk both asked if they could be part of the Belleville, which no one knows about, and that just shows how much they’re invested in the organization,” said Dorion in an interview with the Ottawa Sun Thursday. “We didn’t think we should just parachute people in, either. Both guys wanted to play for Belleville at the end of the year.

“It just tells what kind of younger, character people we have up here and what could have been with Belleville.”'s Top 5 Sens prospects.

025: Sens Interested in Matt Murray; Boro Deserves to be a Senator for Life; Jacques Martin Will Be a Hit on Broadway: Chara Wants to Return

The Sens are keen on goalie Matt Murray, according to TSN. We discuss who we might deal for Murray in our first visit to the Sens Nation Trade Lab.

Is it a good idea? He's only under club control for one more year. A two time Cup winner on an offensive team. Murray didn't benefit from a 1990's New Jersey Devils shutdown style of play. Murray got it done. A 937 save percentage during the last Cup run.

Jacques Martin joins the New York Rangers...Such a great pickup.
Martin spent 17 years as a head coach for the St. Louis Blues, Ottawa Senators, Florida and Montreal. 12 years as an assistant in Chicago, Quebec, Colorado and Pittsburgh. David Quinn the current head coach has been an NHL coach for 2 years.
