“Within this Christian vision of marriage, here's what it means to fall in love. It is to look at another person and get a glimpse of what God is creating, and to say, "I see who God is making you, and it excites me! I want to be part of that. I want to partner with you and God in the journey you are taking to his throne. And when we get there, I will look at your magnificence and say, 'I always knew you could be like this. I got glimpses of it on earth, but now look at you!” ― Timothy J. Keller, The Meaning of Marriage: Facing the Complexities of Commitment with the Wisdom of God

Episode 7: Thriving in Love and Money
47:47

Today, Beth and Jeff continue their interview with Shauni (Type 2) and Jeff (Type 1) Feldhahn, authors of the new book Thriving in Love and Money

The Feldhahns share three unseen factors driving our responses to money in our marriage:

  1. We don't value what the other person values.
  2. We don't understand one another's fears and how money is related to those fears.
  3. We resist oneness.

By understanding what you and your spouse value, and how that connects to your Core Fear and Core Desire, you'll open the door to greater oneness in your marriage.

If you missed Part 1, be sure to go back and listen to it. And please come back next week for Part 3, where Beth and Jeff "Walk The Wheel" and help all 9 Types talk about money from a heart level.

Episode 6: Motivations and Money
37:01

If talking about money makes you uncomfortable, you're not alone. Ninety percent of couples have tension around money, and less than 25% can talk about it.

In this episode, Beth and Jeff interview Shauni (Type 2) and Jeff (Type 1) Feldhahn, authors of the new book Thriving in Love and Money

Their research has discovered that money problems are not simple facts and figures; it all comes down to motive. And as the Enneagram and the Gospel have shown, our heart motivations fuel why we do what we do.

By understanding what you and your spouse value, and how that connects to your Core Fear and Core Desire, you'll open the door to greater oneness in your marriage.

Episode 3: Parenting and the Enneagram
45:28

As parents, we try to offer our children the best of who we are. But often, we are coaching our children to be like us—to think like us, feel like us, and to be the better version of our type.

In this episode, Beth and Jeff explain how the Enneagram helped them parent from a non-anxious presence. By attuning their hearts to how God uniquely created their children, they became better observers. They learned to ask questions that gauged their children's hearts and not just their behavior.

Parenting is never easy, but the Enneagram (seen through the lens of the Gospel) can help you navigate the rough terrain.

Things mentioned in this episode:

  • Why you should resist typing your children
  • How Beth and Jeff learned their children’s types
  • Parenting out of our stories
  • Guiding principles in using the Enneagram in parenting
  • Teaching our children emotional intelligence
  • Insight into parenting a 2 and a 6
  • Stop fighting with your spouse about parenting and get on the same page
  • Pastoral implications in parenting with the Enneagram
