In this episode I speak with yoga teacher, Sophie Spoor.  Sophie shares with us the powerful benefits of bringing yoga to the special needs population.  She also shares how to adapt to reach this population to allow them to find the most benefits from the practice of yoga.  Sophie is a French Yoga teacher, mum of 3, established in Singapore since 2007. Finding Community: A Conversation with Extra Lucky Moms, Taryn Lagonigro and Jessica Quarello
In this episode I talk to two moms who found themselves on a journey in the special needs  ommunity.  We learn the stories of both Taryn Lagonigro and Jessica Quarello, how their daughters brought them together and ignited a passion in both of them to serve the moms of special needs chidlren.  Jessica and Taryn founded Extra Lucky Moms to create community for all special needs moms, regardless of what diagnosis their kids have. This platform is a place for moms to come to get inspired and fulfilled, laugh and learn and be seen and heard. Finding Freedom from Negative Thoughts: A conversation with Author, Nikki Hedstrom, on how to teach children to let go of negative thoughts and create positive affirmations.
In this episode I am joined by Nikki Hedstrom.  Nikki is an author of a children's book, A Thought is a Thought, that explores the concept of our thoughts.  We talk about how anxiety showed up for Nikki early in her life and how she used that experience to create a resource for parents, teachers, therapists, and children.   Nikki is a first-time author from Vancouver, BC, Canada with a passion for helping people and creating change. She has been working in the advertising industry for the past 15 years, creating immersive brand experiences, using interactive displays and meaningful dialogue to engage and shift minds. Mindfulness As a Therapuetic Tool and an Everyday Practice: a conversation with OT and Yoga and mindfulness teacher, Michelle Amussen
Today's episode I talk with occupational therapist and yoga teacher, Michelle Amussen. In this conversation we talk about the powerful ways we can utilize mindfulness everyday to prmote wellness.   Michelle graduated in 2009 with her BS in Health Promotion and Education and later in 2013 with her Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Utah. As a graduate student, she researched the benefits of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) in helping individuals with depression and co-morbid substance abuse. Michelle currently works as an occupational therapist in the school district. She is passionate about the therapeutic benefits of yoga and mindfulness both emotionally and physically. Michelle has received specialized training in teaching mindfulness to children using Dr. Amy Saltzman’s, A Still Quiet Place, Curriculum; and Learning to Breathe: A Mindfulness Curriculum for Adolescent to Cultivate Emotion Regulation, Attention and Performance.  She is a 200 RYT yoga instructor with additional trainings and certifications in trauma sensitive yoga classes and yoga for at risk youth through the Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Center. Decision Making and Mindfulness: How to use mindfulness when you are overwhelmed with making decisions
In this episode I talk about the fact that I have been feeling overwhelmed with having to make so many decisions over this past year.  The pandemic has made even small decisions into big ones.  I noticed a feeling of exhaustion and overwhelm around decsion making and that had me turning to my mindfulness practice.  I decided to rethink decisions and look at them as a chance to be curious and observe.  I also talk about how we can practice this with our children.

Connecting with Children Through Mindful Play and Imagination: a conversation with Betty Larrea children's yoga teacher, author, and mentor

Being Kind To Ourselves: Teaching our children to talk kindly to themselves starts with us.
In this episode I talk about the struggle to be kind to ourselves. I have noticed a trend in my classes that children and teens struggle to compliment themselves. I recently taught a full week of classes focused on saying kind things and found that many students could not say something nice about themselves. As I thought about this I realized I struggle with this too. This got me thinking about how I can help change that. From Bedtime Battles to Bedtime Bliss: Mindfulness tips to ease bedtime struggles
In this episode I talk about how to utilize mindfulness practices with your child to help them transition more easily to bedtime.  I will focus on three goals of the bedtime routine.  The first is making connections with your child.  Many children struggle at bedtime because it means separating from you.  So I will give tips on how to emphasize your connection prior to bedtime.  We will also talk about using movement to calm and prepare their bodies and help your child release any extra energy they may have before bed.  Finally we will talk about helping to quiet your child's mind to get them ready to sleep.  Bonus: there is a full 10 minute guided meditation for your child to use at bedtime!

In this episode we take a deep dive into practicing yoga and mindfulness with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Margot has an extensive background in early childhood education that she brings to this conversation. We discuss the benefits of practicing yoga at the early stages of life. Such as, body awareness, learning to listen to our bodies signals, and learning to regulate our emotions and energy to just name a few. Margot also gives us great tips on how to both introduce these practrices and use them daily with our young children. We also chat about Margot's new children's book Cookie Doughga. Margot is a certified children's yoga and mindfulness teacher and author based on Long Island, NY with a background in early childhood education. She taught as a classroom teacher for over 10 years. In 2015 she left the classroom to become a full time yoga and mindfulness teacher. She’s honored to work with Yogi Beans, and Little Flower Yoga providing school based programming, and enrichment as a contractor. She mentors new children's yoga teachers, and leads professional development for educators and parents. Be Curious, Be Mindful

A View from Child Life Specialist, Lisa Ciarroca: anxiety, grief, and moving forward with support
In honor of Child Life Month in  this episode we hear from Child Life Specialist, Lisa Ciarroca.  She explains how a child life specialist works with children, adolesents, and families.  We discuss how enxiety and grief may present themselves in our children and how to offer them support.  We also discuss the impact of the pandemic and how we can best move forward to provide hope and healing for children and families.   Lisa A. Ciarrocca, CCLS, RWWP is a Certified Child Life Specialist, Registered Wonders & Worries Provider and a Certified Grief Facilitator. In addition, she is a Level 2 Reiki Practitioner. Lisa has over 30 years experience working with children, adolescents, families and professionals in, and out of, the healthcare system setting. She has been responsible for the development and leadership of a system wide Child Life program that served children and families.
