EP74 - A Journey Through Porn Addiction & The Road to Recovery and Mindfulness with Jeremy Lipkowitz
46:16

Today we are talking about a topic of addiction that we haven’t touched on yet so I’m really looking forward to exploring this as I know it is an addiction that deserves just as much awareness as any other.  The topic today is porn addiction and I couldn’t think of a better guest to start this conversation with than Jeremy Lipkowitz.

Jeremy is a mindfulness and emotional intelligence facilitator, and porn addiction recovery coach for men. Jeremy overcame his own addiction to pornography in his early twenties with the help of mindfulness meditation and Buddhist philosophy, which not only helped him let go of his destructive behaviors, it also allowed him to connect with deeper meaning and purpose in his life.

For the past 11 years Jeremy has been teaching mindfulness and emotional intelligence practices at universities, recovery centers, and companies throughout Europe, Asia and the US. He has been featured in places like Men's Health and Livestrong Magazine for his work in helping people overcome compulsive behaviors and addictions.

He holds a Bachelors and Master’s degree in Genetics and Genomics, and spent several years at Duke University working towards a PhD in Genetics & Systems Biology before he turned full-time to teaching and coaching.

I'm so grateful for Jeremy being open and real about the hard beautiful journey he had with porn addiction.  Today he has given many people some comfort to know they are not alone and that they too can hopefully speak their truth and reach out for support.

To contact Jeremy and learn more about how he can help support you on your own journey please check out https://www.jeremylipkowitz.com/ or on Instagram at this link.

I want to remind all my listeners that I have a private Facebook group called “Finding Hope Through Your Siblings Addiction”.  I would love if you would let anyone know that is dealing with this that there is a place of support for them as well and I would love for you to join.  This hard beautiful journey is much easier with someone to walk it with.  We weren’t meant to do any of this alone.  Again the name is “Finding Hope Through Your Sibling’s Addiction” and can be found at this link.

EP68 - #SAMEHERE Global Mental Health Movement with Eric Kussin
50:14

Today on the show is Eric Kussin who is the founder of the organization #samehere Global Mental Health Movement.

Eric shares his personal story of fighting against a severe mental health crisis, how he was misdiagnosed for years, the missing part of the equation, and what led him to founding a global mental health movement.

A big fan of marketing, psychology, and sport, Eric combined all three and began reaching out to his contacts to discuss how they could attack the mental health epidemic strategically and differently than had ever been done before. He had to bring purpose to his own experience and believed he must have gone through that horrific period for a reason.

With suicides at a 30-year high, and drug/opioid abuse out of control, he knows something major must change with the messaging if we’re to reverse these negative trends.  And I couldn't agree with him more.

One of my biggest life lessons I am working on is patience….well, patience has paid off in this case because I finally had the opportunity to sit down with one of the members of Our Collective Journey, also known as OCJ.  My guest is Ryan Oscar who is one of three cofounders of OCJ and the podcast From Darkness To Life.

The goal of Our Collective Journey is to connect people with people, to Strengthen communities through the power of shared experience.  They pride themselves on authentic, honest connections with individuals that are rooted in shared experiences.

They are there for many reasons, which you’ll hear about in this episode, but what I KNOW they are doing so amazingly well, is helping people share their stories, because every time that happens, it helps erase the shame for others which helps them not feel so alone in their pain.

EP 52 - The Art of Grieving - with Preston Zeller
38:22

Today's guest is Preston Zeller and I'm really excited for you to meet him and hear his story!

As a creative person, I was immediately interested in learning more about his grief journey. And what I found out about his story, makes me think there was a higher power that wanted us to meet....our stories of loss and grief are very similar.....and we are both wanting to do something meaningful with our grief...by helping others.

Preston is an artist with accomplishments across multiple mediums, including film, photography, music and fine art.  Following the death of his brother in 2019, Preston set out to paint for a year straight to process his own grief and share the experience along the way to stir conversation about how we deal with grief in society.

The 365 paintings, which create a 10'x20' mosaic, are the subject of a feature-length documentary entitled, "The Art of Grieving".  The documentary is set for release in Spring 2022.

Preston now helps others through grief by creating commemorative paintings using the ashes of a loved one.  His goal is to normalize grief conversations and proliferate healthy ways of dealing with grief.

You can find Preston on Instagram @prestonzeller and the film website is https://theartofgrievingfilm.com.

EP 49 - How Men and Women Communicate AND My Human Design - with Jason Matthews
01:03:37

My guest today blew my mind at many points in this interview, and I look forward to you hearing these moments.

Jason Matthews is here to talk about two topics: The first part of our discussion is around men and women and how we interact with each other and our peers. Jason and I discuss a few areas, such as distrust and competition of needs.

The second part of our discussion is around Human Design and what it means, and then we discuss some of the results of my Human Design reading I had with Jason earlier this year. It is fascinating what he told me. So many moments helped me understand exactly why certain things have been more difficult for me, and I know you will relate to this topic for sure!

Here are three reasons why you should listen to the complete Episode:

  1. Learn about the differences in how men and women interact.
  2. Jason provides valuable insights on the three steps of effective communication.
  3. Discover the four behavioral types in Human Design.
  Episode Highlights

Who is Jason Matthews

  • Jason has spent the last 20 years studying human behavior, human interaction, emotional trauma, and the different ways that men and women interact with themselves, with each other, and their peers.
  • As an emotion investigator, Jason's job is to teach his clients how to solve the mystery of interpersonal interaction by understanding two elements of communication: understanding and alignment.
  • He offers guidance on how unlocking your compassionate power can help you create the life you imagined for yourself and get you the opportunities you want most.

Compassionate power

  • Jason has found that there is a severe lack of the ability for men and women to express themselves adequately in today's society.
  • It's because of one thing that they're not allowing themselves to do, which is to feel compassion.
  • Compassion is the desire to be seen as friendly, approachable and trustworthy, and both men and women want to do this.

Masculine and feminine energy

  • Masculine energy embodies competence, the ability to be seen as capable, reliable, powerful, and action-oriented.
  • Feminine energy embodies compassion, the ability to be seen as friendly, approachable, trustworthy, and development-oriented.
  • Masculine and feminine energies don't have a gender; men can express feminine energy, and women can express masculine energy.

Toxic masculinity in men

  • Men have been conditioned to be seen as powerful, capable and reliable.
  • They're self-conscious about how masculine they need to appear, and this alienates them from others, often coming across as narcissistic and egotistical.
  • While men naturally embody competence, it's also essential to understand how they can be compassionate, especially in the way they connect with others.

Toxic competence in women

  • Women are naturally predisposed to being compassionate, to love, develop and nurture.
  • When you take away the belief that compassion is good, you strip away what makes a woman.
  • What's left is the drive to show they're competent, capable, reliable and powerful.
  • Women, however, can show competence by showing they can develop others and be a source of comfort.

Manifesting the best version of yourself

  • Each gender needs to be permitted to act in a way where they can express themselves fully and play to their strengths.
  • For men, their sole purpose is to act, and the action of acting makes it possible for them to create a space for women or that feminine energy to express themselves fully.

Competition of needs

  • Each party focuses on its own needs, and compassion is lost.
  • When focusing on a job that needs to be done, you're left competing with one another.
  • Instead, focus on what each has to offer to accomplish a goal by working together.

Focusing on your orientation

  • Men are action-orientated and women are action-minded; women are development-orientated and men are development-minded.
  • What you're orientated towards, you're naturally going to excel.
  • It's best to recognize your talents and act in that way, providing the same results and level of service as your counterpart.

Competition of needs destroys relationships

  • Relationships can be destroyed when each party believes that they're entitled to meet their own needs.
  • Focusing on what you want and not listening creates immense frustration.
  • Women want to be heard, while men want to be recognized for their accomplishments.
  • It's important to focus on what's important versus what you want to be appreciated or recognized for.

Igniting reciprocity

  • This goes back to action-oriented versus development-oriented.
  • A development-oriented person will have a strong desire to listen first, and just the act of listening can satisfy their need.
  • By their need being met, they're inclined to find out what the other person needs, igniting reciprocity versus competing.
  • If both want to be heard first, there will be a bad interaction.

Our needs are emotional

  • Our needs are purely emotional, and it has nothing to do with the information. It has to do with the feeling, and it's our feelings that need to be heard.
  • If someone is sharing and doesn't reciprocate, it's a clue that what's being shared is not what needs to be heard.
  • This could be because they don't feel safe to share what they need to.

Three steps of effective communication

  • Ask what or how questions, label through your interpretation and get "that's right."
  • This is not a male or female thing; it's a human thing.
  • It lets the other person know that they are heard, supported, and belong.

Coaching men

  • Jason has found that most people have suffered loss or trauma and have lost their voice.
  • They're either trying desperately to prove themselves or have shut down.
  • He guides them to be the best version of themselves to become powerful leaders.
  • Showing them that it's okay to show compassion and be vulnerable, whether you're a man or woman.

Human Design

  • Human Design is the combination of many different principles and schools of thought.
  • It's a framework that helps us understand how we act, interact, and react.
  • There are four different behavior types: manifestor, generator, projector and reflector.

Generator

  • Generators are the life force of the earth.
  • Without generators, sustained action would not be possible.
  • Generators can sustain energy and can get things done.

Manifestor

  • Manifestors create things; they start a process and get the ball rolling.
  • Once they get the ball rolling, they need to be willing to let it go as they cannot sustain energy to follow through to completion.

Projector

  • Projectors are guides that can provide direction.
  • They can't sustain energy; they're known as the nonenergy type.
  • They're the kind of people who see what's possible and can connect the dots.

Reflector

  • Reflectors make up at most 1% of the population, and they're the least common.
  • Reflectors observe what's going on and take a 20-day cycle to really understand and reflect.

My behavioral type

  • I'm a manifestor, I create things and get them started.
  • Although I want to follow through, I've made myself physically ill trying to do all the work.
  • Jason advises that the perfect marriage of behavior types are manifestors with generators.
  • A generator on my team will help take my idea and what I've created and follow through to completion.

My behavioral lines

  • Each person has two behavioral lines corresponding to a particular trait.
  • My lines are two and four.
  • My first line is the hermit.
  • My second line is the opportunist.

The hermit

  • This is someone who, by nature, needs to be alone to process emotions and information to make sense of their reality.
  • When there's value to be shared, they're willing to share it but only for a limited time before needing to decompress.
  • Often referred to as introverts.

The opportunist

  • The people and environment that they're surrounded by provides opportunities.
  • They're keen to see those opportunities and capitalize on them.

The collision of my behavioral lines

The hermit and opportunist can be seen as a contradiction.
  • The hermit side wants to be isolated, yet the opportunistic side wants to capitalize on opportunities.
  • Having a generator on my team will be helpful as my manifestor energy is limited.

Insights gained from my Human Design

  • As a manifestor, I'm a creator who starts things, but I have limited energy to follow through.
  • A generator on my team, like a VA, will be invaluable in assisting with follow through and completing my creations.
  • I'm grateful to have learned about human design, knowing that I need to stop at specific points to be a happier person.

What Jason is grateful for

  • Jason is grateful for his connections and the ability to connect with other people on a more intimate level.
3 Powerful Quotes from this Episode

18:38 - "So if, if I realized that you have a need, and I can help in some way, satisfy that need, and I'm aware that that dynamic exists, it's my job, it becomes my responsibility. So what is it that you need, and then to listen to you, regardless of whether I can fulfill that need or not? The act of listening to you is going to make you feel appreciated? Absolutely. It's going to make you feel like you are important, that you have a voice. And because of that, you are going to naturally want to listen to what my needs are. Just the fact that I listened to you first. And this applies to romantic relationships, business relationships, friendships, even people who are in a mastermind who are working towards a common goal".

27:12 - "Because by them being the best version of themselves, they become a very powerful leader that other people want to follow, that other people want to know more about, that become the most interesting person in a room without even needing a beer commercial. And they are able to create the kind of dynamic with their peers, with women, whether it be in a relationship, whether it be in a business, whether it be in a social setting, they create the kind of dynamic where other people find them so interesting, because they have shown that they are interested in others, because they are comfortable with the built their ability to be compassionate, while still acting deliberately".

48:09 - "So this is something that I actually use, when I am helping a person, really understand who they are, whether it be a man or a woman, regardless of the circumstances when I am talking to them, helping them create the kind of relationships that are going to help them get to their goals, find out what it is that they need, I use human design, because it helps a person understand where they are their strongest, and what they need, to who they need to connect with in order to show up the things they're more deficient in. It also helps in understanding what creates tension and what actually helps to release tension".

EP 44 - Actionable Steps To Get Confident Making Videos - with Elsewine Rietveld
01:05:35

Does the thought of putting your face on video make your armpits start sweating and gives you a mild, or not so mild, case of anxiety?

You would think that because I do my podcast and have gotten MUCH more comfortable talking to people (including on camera over Zoom) that I would be fine creating videos or going LIVE on Instagram or Facebook…..but…..NOPE.

I absolutely LOVE putting all your beautiful faces in videos and showing how amazing you are, but the thought of having my face on a video is terrifying.  And I don’t know why…..so that is why I was SO excited to have my guest Elsewine Rietveld on my podcast to give us some tips and strategies to get out of our heads and just DO IT ALREADY!!

Elsewine is a former deer in the headlights when it comes to making videos & speaking in public. She was so terrified to record her first video, that she walked straight out of the room where the camera was set up.

Over time, she has found an effective method on how to get comfortable on camera and is sharing techniques from her Confidence Creation Framework with you in her book. As well as a video strategy, a content plan that gives you at least 75 ideas and you can write in 30-60 minutes, and effective mindset techniques. Her P.I.R.A.T.E. technique of doing live videos is also included and lots of dos and don'ts.

Since 2013 she has been training professionals to speak with confidence in conversations, presentations and on video.

Check out her book “Get Comfortable On Camera” - such valuable content that you can implement immediately!  https://getcomfortableoncamerabook.com/

EP 41 - Leave Your Light On - With Shelley Buck & Kathy Curtis
48:19

I had the honor to speak with Shelley Buck and Kathy Curtis about the book they wrote called “Leave Your Light On”.  This book is about Shelley’s son Ryder Buck.  I read the book in about 3 hours, I couldn’t put it down and from the description I give now you will understand why:

Rarely does someone so joyfully authentic come along and flash a light so bright you can’t help but feel a rush of hope.  Ryder Buck was such a guy.

He was charming and hilarious, ornery and aggravating, and he delighted in his love of music. Nothing more and nothing less than himself, his self-acceptance fueled his audacious dreams and taught him to have faith and just let go. Ryder lived a magical life, but he was also tested in ways many of us never will be. He endured the pain of a cancer diagnosis and the hardship of chemo treatment. And when the disease that should have beaten him didn’t, his unimaginable fate showed up on a dark highway.

Then his light began to shine even brighter. It led his mother out of the dark tunnel of her grief. It cradled a family, heartbroken by his silent guitar, to find healing together. It has given people throughout the world the encouragement to be who they really are, to discover their own purpose- to wake up to the magic in their own hearts.

Ryder’s story will inspire you to see your own light – no matter what life or death throws your way.

The book can be found on Amazon & Barnes & Noble or at www.leaveyourlightonbook.com,  Ryder's music can be found at www.ryderbuckmusic.com and the Facebook account is www.facebook.com/RyderBuck.   Shelley can be found on Instagram:  www.instagram.com/shelraebuck/ and Twitter www.twitter.com/shelbuckeroos5   Follow me on Social! EP 38 - Escaping A Misdiagnosis To Financial Freedom - with Gena Peth
51:29

I have been wanting to share this story with you for about 8 months!

My friend Gena is here - I first heard her story back in August 2020 and knew that it needed to be shared with the world.  When she told me her story I was left speechless (and for me that’s hard)….but it also made me realize how having perseverance and a faith in God, you can survive and thrive in ways you didn’t believe was possible.

This story is about escaping something in your life that you thought defined you and coming out the other side stronger than ever.

Certain people are placed in your life at the exact moment that they are needed for your journey - and I thank God and the universe for putting this woman, this friend, in mine.

EP 37 - Escaping Social Awkwardness - with Craig Gustafson
46:18

Today on the podcast I have my good friend Craig Gustafson on the show and I am so grateful that he is here to share his story and his message.  I met Craig last year in the Made To Do This program and he was in the mini pod group that met on a weekly basis.  He is such an amazing human, I can’t find words to adequately describe his spirit and the love he always shows for his friends and family.

Craig identifies as a social misfit and someone that grew up in an environment with high functioning autism, Aspergers and bi-polar.  He has a beautiful message and mission and I can’t wait for more people to hear about it.

You can find Craig on Facebook here and at his website which is https://www.escapingsocialawkwardness.com/.

A personal goal of mine for 2021 was to give a speech - so I enrolled in a program called Shine Bootcamp, which is an 8 week program that teaches you the skills to build and deliver a speech in front of real humans - however, due to Covid this took place over a Zoom screen.

You are given a speaking coach and put in pods to practice your talk and I absolutely loved meeting these other women and my coach Marie.  The nerves were REALLLL….oh my gosh.  The lead up to the day I gave my talk, I was a nervous wreck!  But I knew I wasn’t alone in feeling like this and in some ways that comforted me!

My talk title was “Your Mess Is Your Message” and I am going to play a recording of it on today’s episode!

I hope to one day be able to be invited to speak on more stages and share my story and inspire others to share theirs….to Use their Voice.

EP 35 - Lessons I Learned In Season 2 (Part Two)
36:40

Continuing on from last episode, I am excited to recap episodes 26 to 33 and talk about the lessons that I have learned from these guests!

First up is EP26….have you ever ugly snot cried when hearing someone’s story?  Well, let’s just say my guest for this episode got to see a whole bunch of snot crying on our zoom call!  My beautiful friend Alison joined me to talk about her love story with her late husband Chuck and the grief process since his death.  Their love transcends this earth and I know that Chuck is with her while she now travels the country in her pink car and trailer, her Odyssey of Love…in  Pink.  Alison has an incredible Lovumentary coming out this spring that I am so incredibly excited to see…..I will be sure to spread the news when it is released….Alison reminded me how important love is, not just in a marriage but in everything that we do.  Love is it…..when we have that in our lives, anything is possible.

On EP27 I had the honour and privilege to interview Theoren Fleury.  One day I gathered allll the courage I could muster up and I made the decision to ask him if he’d be on my podcast to talk about his hard beautiful journey.  And obviously he said yes and yes, I screamed OUT LOUD in the Starbucks drive through line when I got the news.  And yes, it’s true I legit almost passed out right before hitting the Admit button on our Zoom call.  But Theo is someone that makes you feel comfortable and is such an amazing person to talk to.  His journey has been more than hard, he’s had immense trauma in his life.  But what he has taught me is that even in your darkest times, there is a way out and there is a way to ask for help.  He reminded us all that people with mental health challenges are not in the minority, we are the MAJORITY.  And it’s time ta stand up for the 5 out of 5.

On EP28 my very dear friend Shawna was here to talk about her very difficult struggle with Anxiety and mental health and how she had to continually advocate for herself until she found the strategies that worked for her.  Shawna shared so much great insight, please be sure and check out that full episode if you haven’t already.  Shawna reminded me that not everyone has lived your experience so they may not know how to support you the way you expect them to.  That hit me hard and made me rethink some relationships I have and I am so grateful for that reminder.

On EP29 I had the absolutely beautiful soul and musician Leah Campbell on the show to talk about her song “Won’t Let You Fall”.  If you’ve been listening since the beginning of Season 2 you would have heard this song a few times.  I needed to know how that song came to her and unfortunately it came from the death of her friend committing suicide.  What Leah taught me is that even in the depths of grief and pain, God is there to show you the next best step and in Leah’s case, he put a pen in her hand and gave her the words to help heal so many people around the world.

On EP30 I had the privilege of interviewing Karen Simba of Livings Works.  Living Works is the world leader in suicide prevention training solutions.  She summarized the training programs that Living Works offers to train and prepare individuals like me and you, as well as organizations and communities to make a difference, to help save lives. Karen taught me that there are even more ways that one person can help save a person from taking their own life and every one of us can be that life preserver, they are here to help so please consider reaching out to them.

On EP31 my beautiful friend Tyler was here to talk about her journey to finding a mediation and wellness practice that fills her soul and gives her such profound peace, and her mission to help others discover this in their own lives.  Tyler taught me a way of thinking about meditating that I hadn’t tried before our interview and since we’ve talked I have implemented and it’s made a huge difference in how long I can now meditate and the quality of my sessions has greatly improved, so thank you friend!

On EP32 my soul sister and beautiful friend Shannon was on the show and yeah, I have so much that I could say about this woman and our conversation.  She radiates love and light and I couldn’t be more proud of the work that she is doing and preparing to do.  Shannon has a beautiful gift of being able to truly SEE people, to their core and help them realize their full potential.  Can you imagine a greater gift than having Shannon as your coach….

On EP33 the incredibly beautiful and joyful Jessica Janzen was on the podcast.  Jess radiates PURE JOY and every time I am in the same space as Jessica you can FEEL how passionate she is about so many dang things but most importantly is wanting people to show up in their lives…..show up now, and don’t wait for the tradgedy or wake up call…..wake up now and live your life to the fullest.  She also taught me that you can bring joy to other people’s lives by acting on nudges from your heart - you never know whose life you are impacting for the better when you follow those nudges.

When I return in mid April, I will have more great guests as well as episodes where it will just be little ole me giving you my thoughts on a variety of topics.  I have a lifetime of stories and experiences that I’d love to share with you.  I believe when you use your voice, you ignite your soul to your true purpose.  I hope you will consider sharing your story with me and my listeners.  If you are interested, please be sure and check out my website at www.mstiffvaughan.com/podcast to submit your story.

EP 34 - Lessons I Learned In Season 2 (Part One)
29:39
Over the next two episodes I thought it would be fun to go back through the interviews that I did from this season and pull from them the lessons that I have learned from all of my incredible guests. I have always said and believe that there is something to learn and be grateful for every single day, and doing this podcast has proven that to me over and over again. Everyone has a story, their own hard beautiful journey and by telling these stories and our journey's, we may be lifting someone up that really needed it but didn't know how to ask.   For this episode I will be discussing episodes 17 to 25 and I can't wait to dive in!!   On EP17 my friend Stacey joined me to talk about her experience with divorce and finding out her husband was having an affair and what that journey looked like for not only her but also for her two girls. Stacey helped me remember that even though these things can happen, it doesn't have to be the end of your happiness....that you can move on and still live your life to the fullest.....   On EP18 my beautiful friend (and neighbour) Chenoa joined me to share her journey of giving her son up for adoption at birth and then reconnecting with him in 2020 and the rollercoaster of emotions that took place. Chenoa reminded me that there is always two sides to a story, and in the case of a child, both the birth mother and birth father's feelings need to be considered. That was a big aha for me with my ongoing search for my half sister.   On EP19 I invited my therapist and "my Jenna" onto the podcast to talk about her role in helping me through one of the darkest times of my life. It was with Jenna that I was asked for the first time - what are you going to do with these struggles - you've shown what you can do for yourself and your family - what can you do to help others with what you've learned. Jenna was the one who first knew that I was supposed to use my voice and find a path and a way to connect with and guide other people. It was through her encouragement and others close to me that I decided to be vulnerable and put our story out there.   On EP20 my incredible cousin James was here and I loved every minute of our conversation....James was here to talk about his own management of his mental health and what that has looked like for him over the past few years. James taught me that men, teachers, athletes....all go through the same mental health battles as everyone else, and if you are a boy, a young man, a grown man - that it is OK to ask for help and it's ok to not be ok.....and it's MOST definitely ok for you to cry - Vulnerability can be your strength.   On EP21 I had my sweet friend Tina on the show to talk about her hard beautiful journey and wow....she has been through some things for sure. From going through two divorces as a young woman, to an infertility battle, to then losing two of her sisters to breast cancer, Tina taught me that you can take matters into your hands when it comes to preventing cancer, especially when it has had such a devastating impact on her families life.   On EP22 I had my mentor and soul coach Bree-Anna Vincent on the podcast to give my listeners an insight into what it is I am currently working on and what soul coaching is all about. I could go on literally for HOURS about what lessons I have learned from Bree-Anna but the number one would be that we are Human BEINGS, not Human DOINGS. That it's absolutely critical that we learn to connect with ourselves and understand who we are at our core.   EP23 - On EP23 I had the wonderful Tonya Woolford on my podcast and I LOVED our conversation about what she is doing as a Death Doula or Death Walker. It is such an important role that she fills in the lives of those people that are nearing the end of their human experience and to help them transition. Not only does she provide comfort to the dying person, she is also there to support the family and friends of her clients. What I learned from Tonya is that by becoming more comfortable with the idea of death (because really, none of us can escape it), you can actually learn to enjoy your life more and it not be a source of dread your whole life and experience joy more deeply.   On EP24 I had the lovely Mandy Balak here with me and she was incredible to talk to. Mandy and I talked about the RISE Lake Louise conference that her company ACE Collective put on, in the middle of a pandemic no less, and how that experience was from both of our perspectives. What I learned from Mandy is that even in the middle of a global pandemic, with all things stacked against you, it is possible to rise, it is possible to get back up and succeed in whatever you want to achieve.   On EP25 I had the absolutely HILARIOUS and beautiful soul Jenny B here with me.....what a blast. Besides being so incredibly funny, she has a heart of gold and I loved getting to know her better. Jenny taught me that it is ok to be vulnerable and share your story in front of a large group of people and even ugly snot cry too.....because there is going to be someone else in the room that has felt the same way (like she did for me). And she taught me that it is always critical for a woman to carry a set of car tweezers with them at all times.   On the next episode I will share the lessons I learned from episodes 26 to 33!   Follow me on Social! EP 33 - Follow The Nudges That Bring The Joy - with Jessica Janzen
46:00

Have you ever met someone and you instantly felt Pure Joy radiating from them - like there was a giant ball of sunshine surrounding them and lighting everyone up who was in their presence?  I have and wow, it’s pretty damn special when you get these opportunities.  My opportunity came about 1.5 years ago when I attended a videography & photography workshop.  There was this woman in the class with me who I just knew was pretty damn special….

This woman was Jessica Janzen.  She came up to me and introduced herself and asked me a couple questions about myself, including about my family and she told me about her three kids, including one in Heaven…..and then she dropped a love bomb on me….She said she had been watching me doing the filming outside and that I had something special….I mean, I just met this person and she made me feel like a million bucks.

I learnt a valuable lesson that day from a complete stranger - you can bring joy to other people’s lives by acting on nudges from your heart to say something kind to someone, to give a smile to a stranger that may need it, to hold the door open for someone, or to just be there to listen when someone needs to talk.

There are so many ways to Bring The Joy and follow the nudges in your heart and Jess is here to talk with us about how she is doing this after experiencing the PROFOUND LOSS from the death of her son Lewiston at 6 months old.

You can follow Jessica on Instagram HERE.  You can buy Jessica's book HERE!  And don't forget to check out the amazing apparel line at Love For Lewiston and support an amazing foundation HERE

EP 32 - Conversation With My Intuitive Soul Sister - with Shannon Pinkston
50:06

Today’s guest is my soul sister and beautiful friend Shannon Pinkston.

She has a 25 year career as a casting director, journalist and writer.  In 2015/2016 Shannon experienced a health crisis that was one of the catalysts for truly realizing her intuitive gifts and exploring them more.  These gifts are now being used to help heal years of trauma and has set her on a path of helping other people (like me) know what they are capable of, what their gifts are and to explore and nurture those.

Shannon's Podcast is called "Adventures of the Airstream Oracle" and can be found HERE.  And check out her Facebook Group called "Dragonfly Energy Wellness and Empath Support" and can be found HERE.  Shannon's IG account is @airstream_oracle.

EP 31 - Mindful Meditation & Finding Peace - with Tyler Gravley
32:34

Can we talk about 2020 for a minute….what an absolute dumpster fire it was in some ways right?!  I think it’s safe to say everyone went into 2020 with so many amazing goals and visions for an epic year.  When the world started shutting down in March and it continued on and on….I was not in a good head space….but then I made one of the best decisions of my life.  I joined a program called Made To Do This….and that is where I met so many people that I now call dear friends.

I have had a few of them on my podcast already, and this week I have two more, including this beautiful soul Tyler.  Tyler is here to talk with me about her journey to finding a very meaningful meditation practice, one that brings her so much fulfillment.  She even did a 10 day silent retreat, which I found very intriguing, and you’ll find out what she wanted more than anything once she was done - I wasn’t expecting it that’s for sure!

Tyler's Podcast is called "How Do U Meditate: The Podcast" and can be found HERE.  And check out her Facebook Group called C(OM)munity" and can be found HERE.

EP 29 - The Story Behind Won’t Let You Fall - with Leah Campbell
27:39

Have you ever heard a song and it stops you in your tracks?  Or makes you smile, or cry, or feel all the feelings with every single word?

One day I was sitting at work, listening to Spotify like I usually do and this song came on - it was like the air was sucked out of the room, and all the everyday sounds of working in an office went away and all I could hear was this song.  And I got the chills so I knew my peeps above were telling me to pay attention.  And I did.

The song I am talking about is “Won’t Let You Fall” by Leah Campbell.  It was like the song was written for my podcast.  I followed the additional nudges I was given to reach out to Leah and ask her if I could license the song from her to use on some of my podcast episodes.  And she so graciously said YES!

It was only after I reached out to her that I discovered the meaning behind the song.  Leah is here to talk to me today about that story and I’m so grateful.

Check her out here!

EP 28 - Mental Health, Anxiety and Being Your Own Health Advocate - with Shawna Griscowsky
58:04

Have you ever had an anxiety attack?  If you’ve ever had one, you know that they are ABSOLUTELY terrifying.  While you are having one you feel like you’re legit going to die from not breathing.  And afterwards they can leave you feeling drained, exhausted, emotional and shivering uncontrollably.  It does feel like your body wants to shut down.   I am so thankful that I have only experienced one anxiety attack in my life.  But it was soooo bad, that I will never forget it….and I now have endless compassion for those that struggle with them.

My guest today is a very dear friend of mine from high school.  Shawna is here to talk about her very painful struggle with anxiety amongst other very difficult health challenges that left her on her knees begging God to help her.  And wow, did he ever.  I can’t wait for you to hear her story as it left me in awe of what can happen when you put your faith in something greater than yourself….and surrender.  This is Shawna's journey with mental health, anxiety and being her own advocate for her health.

EP 27 - Sharing Your Pain Heals You & Others - with Theo Fleury
01:09:30

Theo Fleury is here and I couldn’t be more GRATEFUL.  Theo has achieved incredible success on the ice, winning a Stanley Cup in 1989 with the Calgary Flames, an Olympic Gold Medal for Canada in 2002, and many, many other things.

Theo has written two books, Playing With Fire and Conversations With a Rattle Snake.  I just read Playing With Fire and I couldn’t put it down.

We talk about many things in this interview but the through line is the importance of Using Your Voice and that moment you make the decision to do something with your pain.  Theo’s Hard Beautiful Journey and his pain are not the same as mine, but what we do share in common is that we both made the decision to tell our stories - and by doing that has changed the trajectory our lives for the better.  We are both LIVING proof, that to heal you need to talk….you need to use your voice.

Today on the podcast I have a very special guest.  This woman is light, she is fire, she is someone with so much grit and determination and she is someone so damn real, it's refreshing!   Mandy Balak is here with me.  She is an entrepreneur, strategist, coach, hype woman and host of the Level Up Podcast.   She's on a mission to help women get out of their own way and build a business and life they want.   Mandy has built an amazing community called the ACE Collective where driven, heart centered women thrive.  She created an event called Rise which I attended in November with about 85 other women, during a pandemic!   Mandy and I talk about that conference along with other inspiring things that she has in the works and you will want to listen to the end to hear about an incredible event she has planned with some of her friends to say good-bye to 2020 and bring in 2021.   Check out this event here as well as where to find Mandy:   https://mandybalak.com/ https://www.theacecollective.com/ https://www.theacecollective.com/revive-retreat     Show sponsor: www.simplycounsellingservices.com www.instagram.com/simplycounsellingservice   Follow me on Social! https://www.instagram.com/mstiffvaughan/ www.facebook.com/mstiffvaughan

EP 23 - Journey To Becoming A Death Walker - with Tonya Woolford
39:56
I'm sure you've heard the term Birth Doula, but have you ever heard of a Death Doula, or Death Walker? I know I sure hadn't until I was introduced to my guest Tonya Woolford and I am so happy she is here to discuss this with us today.   A death walker is a person who assists in the dying process, much like a midwife or doula does with the birthing process.   They can sit vigil during the dying process, create death plans, assist in advanced directives, provide spiritual support, help with legacy projects such as scrapbooks, write letters and more.   It is such important work that Tonya is doing - giving a dying person and/or their family the dignity and peace that they deserve in their last moments. Thank you for sharing your story Tonya.   Check out Tonya here! www.deathpositivemovement.ca www.facebook.com/tonya-woolford-death-doula-and-end-of-life-planner     Show sponsor: www.simplycounsellingservices.com www.instagram.com/simplycounsellingservice   Follow me on Social! https://www.instagram.com/mstiffvaughan/ www.facebook.com/mstiffvaughan

EP 17 - Having The Courage To Move On After Divorce - with Stacey Wallis
01:08:00

I am so thrilled to have my childhood friend Stacey on today's episode to talk about her Hard Beautiful Journey.

Stacey shared with me - "I have come so far since the fateful day I learned my husband was having an affair.  This was what I call a course correction in life but it was the hardest journey to take.  From 5 stages of grief, suicidal, doing all I could to move forward and really think about what I want for my life, but not just survive and pay the bills. Learning Moms in divorce are not seen the same in so many ways, learning that chasing your dreams in the eyes of some would be seen as selfish, learning about dating, going out again, Tinder and having to get a “real job” after 12 years of being a stay at home mom and self employed, learning that joy really does attract joy!  I learned that the more I shared and the more I moved forward with my dream, the more I attracted people into my life that became part of my new life and dealing with the grief of losing dreams I once had, a home I loved, and friends who really were not going to come along with me on the next chapter. The biggest success was coming to terms with what happened and moving forward with my ex-husband so that our girls would be not just ok but full of love and safety and opportunities ..... it’s an amazing journey".

I am honoured that Stacey shared her Hard Beautiful Journey with me and all of you - know that if you have the courage, you can have anything that you put your mind to.

EP 11 - Do Good Be Kind Comes To Canada! - with Chris & Brittany Kurtz
01:04:17

The very first interview goal I had when starting my podcast was with this organization.  I wanted the WORLD to hear the message that this organization is about because they are VALUES that I hold as vital in my life.  KIND..... This message is so universal....for children in grade school, to preteens and teens in high school, young adults in university and then businesses and organizations all over the world.  The message is so simple....Do Good. Be Kind.

EP 01 - The Truth About My Infertility And Mental Health Breakdown (Part 1)
36:45

The message of this podcast is for you not to feel alone in your struggles. We have all been through tough times and still here trying, so let me share with what has happened thus far as well as where things are now!

From there I want us to be a source of support each other- if only because it's important that someone knows they're worth saving - but more importantly providing an outlet: somewhere we can laugh or smile during our day.

I hope these podcasts give just one person some relief when their world feels like its falling apart around them.

The first episode I share the painful struggle my husband James and I endured through infertility.  It was a long, painful journey that I wouldn't wish on anyone.  While undergoing infertility treatments and going to school in the evenings to complete my CPA designation, I had a complete mental breakdown.

This is part one of my story.  I hope by telling it here, it helps even one person know they are not alone.
