The Year of Lasts: Fun Midlife Sh*t Quickie Minisode
34:26
EP 78: OMG! Empty nest! Am I becoming invisible? Will my kid ever text or call again? I am going from supervisor mom role to consultant mom role? If you have a high school teen now or you have had one in the past, you know the feeling… “but we just had his 3rd birthday, and he just learned how to drive... What? How?” As midlifer's we are already hormonal, some days we are frumpy and lumpy and other days we can even feeling irrelevant and uninspired. And, for me, I have a kid leaving for college in the fall, OMG! MY KID?! Who will I be when “teen son” leaves the nest, then “teen daughter”?! I’m counting my midlife blessings we have teen daughter here for 2 more years to supervise me. Midlifers… I need to know how you are savoring this moments? Or even better how did you savor them? Is there hope? Do we ever stop checking their location? I’m recording this minisode on The Year of Lasts to help fellow empty nesters feel seenm heard and normal. There is no better time than now to start that midlife remix. In this week’s Fun Midlife Sh*t Quickie Minisode, The Year of Lasts, I use my golden sh*t shovel to dig deep into what the last year has felt like, the college process, and all the OMG's! Today's topic? Empty nest syndrome. And let me tell you, it's a real thing. One day, your home is bustling with the chaos of children and teens, and the next, it's eerily quiet and you can actually hear yourself think, again. You find yourself standing in your child's empty bedroom, wondering where the time went and how you'll fill the void. Let's back up a bit. This past week, I experienced a whirlwind of emotions as my "teen son" Jake had his last baseball game, last prom, and last day of high school. I've been referring to this year as "The year of lasts," and boy, did it live up to its name. Every moment felt bittersweet, but I have been making a conscious effort to savor and enjoy it all. Every moment felt bittersweet, but I have been making a conscious effort to savor with lots of ugly cries on the side. This minisode is part of the Fun Midlife Sh*t Quickie Minisode Series…stream of consciousness rants with loads of sarcasm, relatable humor mixed with expert info. Why would you skip? Some Highlights:

Midlife Nutrition & “Well-Being Buffet”...3 Experts
01:07:45
EP 66: In midlife, what are you really hungry for? Is a cupcake or the fries going to satisfy that craving or is there a deeper longing or need? How do you physically and mentally feel in midlife? And, what nutritional elements can help change that? What “non-food” joys, purpose and personal meaning can we integrate into our daily routines? How can you easily incorporate healthier meals & snacks, and more nutrients into your life? Can we consistently “dabble” in the “midlife well-being buffet”, for optimal well-being? Join me, Dr. Sarah Milken, in an open and honest conversation called, “Midlife Nutrition & ‘Well-Being Buffet’...3 Experts”. In this episode I go back and revisit some of my favorite conversations with three fabulous nutrition experts. All three women are using their different life experiences and educational & professional backgrounds to inform and help women gain a healthier midlife by finding our “good enoughs”, asking ourselves the important questions about ourselves and what we are really hungry for in our lives. Each of my guests explains her nutritional practices and how they communicate with their clients about the “midlife nutritional dabbling buffet”…eating, exercising and nourishing ourselves with other things than just food. If you’re looking to satisfy your internal hunger, use food to heal your mind & body or change your nutritional lifestyle, then you don't want to miss out on all of the juicy golden nuggets! Midlife Mirror Mirror on the Wall…Who am I After All?
38:07
EP 65: Do you ever wish that you had a magic mirror to give you the answers to all of your midlife questions? Well, it’s not that easy…Unfortunately, the magic mirror isn’t always truthful and can create distorted images of how we view ourselves. What do you see when you look into the midlife mirror? In this week’s minisode, “Midlife Mirror Mirror on the Wall…Who am I After All?”, I talk about the importance of how we define ourselves in this midlife process. I take a look at society’s impossible aesthetic standards and expectations of midlife women. I dive deep into how famous midlife women, who were once viewed with a spotlight and seen as perfect representations of how a woman should look and act, are now being cast aside because they are past their “prime”. I give examples of six midlife celebrities who are pushing back against Hollywood’s rejection of midlife & aging women and showing what the “midlife remix” is all about. We do not need a magic mirror or society’s standards to tell us our worth, beauty and sex appeal! We have to tell ourselves this. We have to stand up for ourselves, put ourselves in the forefront and choose what we want in midlife…without the approval of the external peanut gallery. This minisode is part of the Fun Midlife Sh*t Quickie Minisode Series. This new minisode series is highlighting resonating & edgy midlife sh*t from my IG, solos, and short pop in guests on stuff we are all thinking about, but maybe too embarrassed to ask…and, of course, more random stream of consciousness rants with loads of sarcasm, relatable humor mixed with expert info. 11 | Intensifying Sexual & Personal Energies In The Second Half Of Life with Dr. Laura Berman
01:24:03
Join me, Dr. Sarah Milken, in an honest and open conversation about Intensifying Sexual & Personal Energies in The Second Half of life with Dr. Laura Berman. Dr. Berman is a world-leading expert and therapist in sex, love, & relationships. She is an award-winning host of the nationally syndicated show, Uncovered Radio and the New York Times bestselling author of nine books. She hosted and starred in several TV shows including OWN’s In the Bedroom with Laura Berman, The Laura Berman Show, and Sexual Healing on Showtime. And, she has a new podcast launching called, The Language of Love. Dr. Berman is sharing the tools we need to intensify and re energize our personal connections and love lives in the second half of life. We are going to dig deep into the details of Dr. Berman’s second half of life journey that started with a quest to heal herself emotionally and physically after receiving her own breast cancer diagnosis, the same year her mother passed away from breast cancer. After trying many different avenues, Dr. Berman turned to the field of quantum physics for answers. In this episode, we discuss how Dr. Berman was able to find her second life path, post breast cancer and how she found the sweet spot between living in a conscious state of intention and high vibrational energy vs. low and dark energy. Laura has two intertwining life paths, one of professional career accomplishments and one of finding her own personal path to healing her internal trauma from her own life events. The second half of her life has led her into a fascinating path of discovering how to love and be loved through quantum physics energy work, which is exactly what she highlights for us in this episode. Dr. Berman talks to us about the importance of tuning into our home frequencies, the feeling that we feel when we are truly at home with ourselves, so we put a more positive and loving energy out into the world when we connect with others. By personally creating the energy that we want to see in the world, that same energy will be shown back to us. Dr. Berman even walks us through a guided meditation to help us tune into our home frequencies and reimagine how we can feel great within ourselves and the world (PLEASE SEE MEDITATION LINK BELOW) Tuning into our home frequencies also allows us to create happier and more loving relationships with all of the people around us. After listening to this episode, you will be ready to recreate your relationship with a new outlook on how to connect with your partner and create a more intense and emotionally connected relationship. 10 | Being My Own WHY In The Second Half Of Life... First Solo Episode
35:05
In this very special and first episode of it’s kind for my podcast, I am doing a solo cast. I have been putting this episode off for so long...yes, self limiting beliefs...who am I to do this? Who will listen? Can I do it? It was scary to think about talking to myself without a guest. LOL. I did it. Today, I am sharing some of my golden nuggets that we all can use today, to start being our own why and take that first step in the self recreation journey, in the second half of life. In this episode, I talked about the turning point that made me realize that I wanted to create a podcast, and how my family helped tremendously along the way. In fact, it was my 14 (13 at the time) daughter, who was the one who started all of this. For my birthday, as a gift, she asked many of my friends to write “three things they love about my mom”...upon opening this golden box, I discovered many messages that made me realize I had a little something unique to me that I could put out into the world. There was a theme. I am an inquisitive information gatherer, known as The Flexible Neurotic. While I went back and forth over whether or not it should be a book or a podcast, it was my truly incredible friend, mentor and first guest, Angella Nazarian, who kick started my podcast journey...also, my incredible life coaches, Cari Rose and Ryan Haddon. By reaching out to family, friends and mentors, I was able to gather the information, support and expertise that I needed to start my self recreation journey. It takes a village. #womensupportingwomen. “The Flexible Neurotic came to be when I realized my special skill is really being super neurotic, but balancing it out with just the right amount of flexibility, when I need to make a final decision...this is the definition of The Flexible Neurotic and the premise of the podcast.“ In this episode, I go on to talk about how this podcast turned into something I could have never imagined. It grew at a crazy fast rate, all thanks to my friends and even people I have met online who have resonated with this self recreation process. I also chat about the steps forward and detours in the journey. I share some of the people that I have met and connected with along the way and how they have continued to shape my self recreation process. 01:34:11
Join me, Dr. Sarah Milken, in an honest and open conversation about anti-aging in the second half of life with Dr. Jason Diamond. Dr. Diamond is a Board-Certified Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon in Beverly Hills, specializing in surgical & non-surgical facial rejuvenation. Dr. Diamond has developed a long standing reputation for making his patients look youthful, yet completely natural, as seen on E! Network’s hit reality television show, Dr. 90210. “My patients don’t look done,” Dr. Diamond says. “They just look great.” Dr. Diamond is sharing the tools we need to rejuvenate, refresh and radiate ourselves in the second half of life. We are going to dig deep into the details of Dr. Diamond’s journey to becoming one of the top facial plastic surgeons in the world and how he created the Diamond “Insta-Facial” and Diamond Sculpting filler technique, to make women look ageless. In this episode, we found the sweet spot in learning about the aging of the face. We learned Dr. Diamond’s philosophy on the art of plastic surgery, the benefits of certain procedures vs. others, augmenting our facial structure, and things we need to know as red flags, before we commit to letting work be done on our faces. If you ever wanted to know more about facial plastic surgery or about almost every facial procedure under the sun… this is the episode for you. Dr. Diamond talks to us about the stigma that often surrounds facial plastic surgery, and why it is important that we do what we want for us, not external validation.. Social media has played an important role in reducing the stigma of getting procedures and plastic surgery, but it has also made people have unrealistic expectations. Dr. Diamond talks about how clients often come to see him and expect to “look like Kim Kardashian,” when in reality, Dr. Diamond is an expert at highlighting one’s own facial features and emphasizing all of the right contours of your face. He talks to us about how he created the practice that he has today, and how he became an expert from learning from all of the top experts. He was able to pick up thousands of different techniques to create the Diamond methods that he uses today. After listening to this episode, you will have learned the ins and outs of facial plastic surgery, treatments and procedures...from what to do & what not to do, to who to see and what is best for you (if anything at all). Dr. Jason Diamond gives us so many golden nuggets that we can use in our own lives… even if we aren’t getting facial plastic surgery right now or ever...things to think about. Some highlights:

01:47:00
Join me, Dr. Sarah Milken, in an honest and open conversation about learning how to thrive, not just survive in our second half of life with Elissa Goodman. Elissa Goodman is a holistic nutritionist and lifestyle cleanse expert to an A-list roster of celebrities. After being diagnosed with cancer at 32 and then losing her husband to his own fight with cancer, Elissa dove deep into finding solutions for helping to cure cancer and many other health problems. Her quest to heal her own cancer led her into being a fountain of health and lifestyle change & solutions for thousands of her clients. She wrote the best-selling book “Cancer Hacks” and has an upcoming book called “Auto-immune Hacks”. Elissa also offers a soup cleanse program to help reset the body, and a digital 7 day reset as well. Elissa is giving us the tools we need to create a healthier lifestyle from the inside out and make our bodies the strongest they can be in the second half of life. We are going to dig deep into the details of Elissa’s journey into her second half of life, and how she was able to move past trauma and illness and change her life entirely. In this episode, we learned the benefits of cleansing, juicing, supplements, stress reduction and cancer prevention hacks. We talk about how her own personal experiences with cancer and other illnesses led her to a “vending machine” of different remedies from trauma therapy, to energy healing, journaling, meditation, and then finally nutrition. She was able to try many different things, cure her cancer and find some personal inner calm. Elissa recommends trying many different modalities. It’s not a one size fits all approach to health. She also believes in the importance of testing our bodies for deficiencies so we can better use supplements. She figured out the secrets to thriving, not just surviving. In this process, she also discovered her purpose and why for her second half of life, in helping people heal from physical and mental issues and find a fountain of longevity and good health. Elissa teaches us all about the importance of plant-based diets and juicing without sugar fruits, and how these plants & veggies are able to help eliminate illness, reduce inflammation and improve our mental health. While it is important to eat more plants and vegetables, it doesn’t mean you have to cut out meat and animal products entirely… it is possible to still enjoy yourself. She also talks to us about how stress and trauma have a physical impact on our bodies, and if we don’t work to reduce it, it can end up having physical manifestations in our body. With varying combinations of different practices, journaling or finding a practice to reduce stress, cleaning up our eating and social connection, we can become the healthiest versions of ourselves. After listening to this episode, you will be able to improve all aspects of your health, from the inside out & kickstart the new year filled with transformation and thriving, not just surviving. 07 | Finding Your Center & Identity In The Second Half Of Life with Ryan Haddon
01:13:23
Join me, Dr. Sarah Milken, in an honest and open conversation about finding our center and bringing meaning and purpose into our second half of life with Ryan Haddon. Ryan Haddon is a certified life and spiritual coach, hypnotherapist, and certified meditation teacher with over 16 years of experience with clients around the world. She is giving us the tools we need to become more centered and even find our identity in the second half of life. We are going to dig deep into the details of Ryan’s journey of finding her soul’s purpose, and how her transition from Hollywood, CA to a farm in Pennsylvania, her spiritual and mental tools & her meditation practice changed her center entirely. In this episode, we talk about finding our anchors, noticing our triggers and even how there have been some silver linings that came out of our 9 months in quarantine. Ryan explains that we are often leaning out of center, or looking for the next new thing and never are truly content with where we are or what we have... She even teaches us the tools to help find our centers… which is often a very challenging task for parents whose kids were once their center. Ryan teaches us about hypnosis and how hypnosis unlocks the unconscious state when our brain is most impressionable and receptive to change. Hypnosis is similar to meditation, but instead of doing it alone, it is a guided meditation by a hypnotist or trained expert. Ryan gave me a hypnosis recording, during March Covid, where I learned my “Sarah Milken Special” meditation to do twice a week... to guide me through the second half of life. We talked about the fear of judgment, my self limiting beliefs and all other vulnerabilities that came with beginning my own self recreation journey, at age 45. Ryan was able to create the perfect hypnosis recording for me. After listening to this episode, you will be able to start thinking about finding your center and jump head first into the new year with tools you need to start recreating today, judgment free. 05 | You Don't Have to Do It All, to Have It All with Eve Rodsky
01:25:53
Join me, Dr. Sarah Milken, in an open conversation about how you can have it all, but not physically do it all. How does a more fair and equal distribution of household and family duties sound? What household activities would you want to trade? Do you prefer dishwasher duties? Weekend laundry or weekend soccer duty? Our special podcast guest, Eve Rodsky and two of her biggest champions, Reese Witherspoon and Arianna Huffington say yes to all of this! It’s happening! The invitation from our guest, Eve Rodsky, is for us all to ask ourselves what we would do if we had more time and space to reclaim & fewer household chores & obligations? With this Harvard Law graduate and organizational management expert and we are diving deep. This New York Times best selling author is Reese Witherspoon’s x Hello Sunshine’s book pick with her book, Fair Play - A Game Changing Solution For When You Have Too Much to do (and more life to live). Eve is creating a change movement in how we view women’s time... She created the “Shit I Do” list by gathering hundreds of women’s daily to do lists from dishes to dog groomer appointments... to reading school emails. This was used to exemplify the time consuming work (invisible work) that women do to keep a family functioning. Spouses and partners are often unaware of the infinite tasks in a day. From this Sh*t I Do list, the Fair Play book and deck of cards was born. Get your golden shit shovels ready as we uncover the golden nuggets and secret sauce to create fair and equal households with the expert herself, Eve Rodsky. We find the sweet spot in learning to create more equally distributed family and household workload schedules for all members... moms, women and even dads who can’t be responsible for everything. In this episode, we learn how Eve’s personal experience shaped the way that she understands and views household dynamics. We chat about how her husband’s “you forgot the blueberries?” text ignited her movement, hence creating the framework for Fair Play. She talks about how growing up in a single mother household changed the way that she views the work that mothers do, and how it changed the way that she views the distribution of work in two-parent households. Eve teaches us that our time is not infinite, and we should treat our time as diamonds - something so many of us have never done. Women’s time is equal to men’s time. Since women’s time is typically valued less than men’s time, and they are often left with a never ending to-do list, women often lose what Eve calls unicorn space - the time where we can go and invest time and energy in our passions, uninterrupted. This isn’t the time where you get a massage or watch your favorite tv show, but the time where you can actually pursue something you love. Women have lost the “right to be interesting”...they are occupied with the worries of their homes, children and spouses. Eve shines a spotlight and gives us the necessary reminder that we are important, interesting and valuable as well - an idea that we often lose in our households and children. Eve gives us many tools to start communicating with our partners to recreate our households and strengthen our families, relationships and marriages. She walks us through how to re-evaluate all the tasks and chores that we do in the house, and how to communicate with our partner to restructure our time. She even teaches us how to take back our unicorn space, so we can rediscover our unique identities. She asks the important questions: Who am I now? Who was I? What makes me happy? After listening to this episode, you will be able to better communicate with your partner, rediscover your unique identity and make time for more “unicorn space” - all while strengthening your relationships and family. So men, and women, listen up if you want more sex and less nagging. Some highlights:
