                                        Ep. 081 - Forgetfulness
                                        1274

Tim has been getting super frustrated with the way his memory is working lately. With little research, Tim may have found the problems. This episode heavily focuses on how stress, anxiety & depression can cause forgetfulness. As well as feeling like your life is out of your control and how to actually battle that!

Don't forget, starting July 16, people seeking mental health services can call 988 to access counselors and response teams at the 24/7 National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Calls will be redirected to the current number, 1-800-273-8255, which will stay operational during and after the 988 expansion. The call line received 3.6 million calls, chats and texts in 2020. After the 988 transition, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, an agency under the Department of Health and Human Services, expects the contact volume to double in that first year to 6 million, possibly up to 12 million.

Interview w/ Doula & Energy Healer, Stephanie Lauredent-Diasio

Be sure to head over to YouTube to see their Rock, Paper, Scissors Matchup!

Host Tim McCarthy interviews w/ Stephanie Lauredent-Diasio, is a doula and energy healer. Tim learns what doula is and what goes behind it. Stephanie's career path and how it wasn't for her. They also talk about racism in the workplace and how she felt and dealt with it. This is a really interesting conversation & you're really going to enjoy it!

Stephanie found her way to energy and birthwork after having daily panic attacks while working in toxic environments that completely drained her. She got my Master’s in Business Administration and B.A in Journalism from Temple University in Philadelphia with the desire to change people’s lives and ended up working in the corporate world, while being completely miserable and feeling like she didn’t have a voice.

Stephanie was feeling tired as I fell asleep with my phone on my face. Overwhelmed as she kept forgetting to eat meals. Dry heaving every morning while receiving urgent work text messages and thought that she would always live that way because she didn’t know how to say no to others. And that’s when everything changed. After having a panic attack on a weekend while meditating, Stephanie decided that was the final straw and it was time to stop moving through life the way she was.

Through becoming a doula, certified meditation teacher, reiki practitioner, yoga instructor and life coach, Stephanie noticed a drastic decline in her anxiety and started to have more control over my life. She created SLD Wellness after she saw a need to support others in their quest to have the freedom to be in charge of their lives.

If you’re looking for birth support, resonate with Stephanie's story and want to regain control of your life, heal past traumas and wounds, and create epic boundaries…Book a FREE Doula Inquiry call to have an empowering birth your way.

Interview w/ JD of the Dark Days Bright Nights Podcast
                                                        2327

Tim interviews JD of the Dark Days Bright Nights podcast. Tim & JD became close when they met through twitter and realized they were both on the same mission, promoting mental health! This is a really good conversation between two advocates who are fighting for those who are fighting internally.

Be sure to head over to YouTube to see their Rock, Paper, Scissors matchup!

JD is an ACE Certified Health Coach and Personal Trainer as well as the founder of Dark Days Bright Nights, and his aim is to build a wellness community where individuals can feel supported and find sustainable resources as they try to lead healthier lives.

In his past JD has been in education, before realizing that the health and wellness realm was his calling. When he's not designing programs for his clients, answering client questions, hosting his podcast Dark Days Bright Nights, or tweeting about mental health, you’ll find JD enjoying a nice run or watching some hockey. Alongside him is my wife, Tracy and their son, Daniel.

This interview was recorded prior to the birth of Dark Day Bright Nights

Interview w/ Michelle Hammer [Schizophrenia Activist & Owner of Schizophrenic.NYC]
                                                            2492

Michelle Hammer is a Schizophrenia Activist and spends her time passionately fighting stigma. She is an NYC native featured in the WebMD documentary Voices, which was nominated for a Tribeca X Award at the Tribeca Film Festival 2018. Michelle was diagnosed with schizophrenia at 22 after a misdiagnosis of bipolar at age 18. At 27, Michelle decided to use her artistic talents and fearless personality to do something that could benefit the mental health community. In May 2015, she founded a mental health-focused clothing brand. Schizophrenic.NYC is a clothing brand with the mission of reducing stigma by starting conversations about mental health. Michelle has also been featured in many publications such as MashableThe Daily MailStylist, and Buzzfeed.

Michele & Tim talk mental health, while Tim learns more about Schizophrenia and her apparel company. They both also break out their singing abilities to one of the "smartest songs of all time" - This was a really enjoyable interview & we hope you enjoy it

Schizophrenic.NYC was created, founded, & designed by Michelle, a Schizophrenic New Yorker who wants to make a difference in the way the mentally ill homeless are treated in NYC as well as change the way New Yorkers feel about mental illness. Usually, the Rorschach Test is plain black. When a person with schizophrenia looks at this test or just goes through life, things are seen from a different perspective. What Michelle did was by using my artwork in the test, she changed the colors and patterns so now everyone sees the test from a different perspective. This makes people think differently and starts a discussion. The more discussions about mental health we have, the less stigma there will be.

Former NBA Player turned Motivational Speaker Chris Herren was gracious enough to talk with host Tim McCarthy of 20TIMinutes. Tim & Chris talk about Chris's addiction to drugs, how it ruined his playing career, his recovery which lead him to be a motivational speaker, the mission of ‘Herren Talks’, and the two also even talk little pro wrestling to wrap up the interview. This is a really fun and intriguing conversation! Be sure to watch the interview on YouTube, so you can witness their rock, paper, scissors matchup!

Chris Herren was a high school basketball legend from Fall River, Massachusetts, who scored over 2,000 career points while at Durfee High School and was named to the 1994 McDonald’s All-American team.

Starting his collegiate career at Boston College, Chris transferred to Fresno State after several failed drug tests, playing for legendary basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian, known for giving second chances to players. He was named to the All-WAC first team in 1996 and 1997 before announcing that he would need miss part of the 97-98 season to seek treatment for an ongoing struggle with substance use disorder.

Chris realized his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA when he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 1999, and then was traded to his hometown team, the Boston Celtics, in 2000. After suffering a season-ending injury as a Celtic, Herren went on to play in five countries including Italy, Poland, Turkey, China, and Iran.

With the unwavering support of his family and friends, Chris has been sober since August 1, 2008, and he now shares his story with the goal of making a positive difference in the lives of others.

His recovery journey has been documented in the bestselling memoir, Basketball Junkie, the Emmy-nominated ESPN Films documentary, Unguarded, and in countless local, national and international stories by The New York Times, The Boston Globe and Sports Illustrated, among others. Through Herren Talks, Chris has spoken to over 1 million students and community members, sparking honest discussions about substance use disorder and wellness.

In 2011, Chris grew his vision of support for others when he founded the nonprofit Herren Project. Through the organization, Chris and his team empower schools and communities to make healthy choices, while also guiding families through recovery. In 2018, Chris also founded Herren Wellness, a residential health and wellness program that helps guests lead healthy, substance-free lives.

With recognition ranging from the Boston Celtics’ Hero Among Us Award to the Faces and Voices of Recovery National Voice of Recovery Award, Chris’s incredible impact on his community continues to grow.

Tim had some time constraints with this episode and his time anxiety was at an all time high. Tim continues last weeks topic on anhedonia, with what it is, and how you can manage it. Then he has a realization about pressured speech, & how he has been doing it the majority of his life. It's bittersweet to learn a bad habit you didn't know about. Enjoy!

Why does medication have to have such complicated sounding names? Tim wants the job of naming medications (along with medication, and natural disaster). Episode 062 focuses on a question submitted by a listener, "What's a good way to support someone who is going through depression?" Where Tim gives his unprofessional 2 cents, with what works and doesn't work for him. We're all different and what may work for one person, may not work for another.

Do you know what that is, and if so, have you experienced it!?

Holly's story her real story was born from a dark place, when her and their business got seriously stuck. At 29 years old, she was unhealthy and unhappy, entangled in a relationship that drained her energy—so much that Holly was suffering from weekly panic attacks. Their business had plateaued—and profitability was declining. Holly was burned out, and spinning my wheels, without getting significant results. With a lot of hard work, do-it-yourself marketing, and a strong network of support, Holly helped Dr. Lhota grow his practice from $1 million to $8 million in 6 dental chairs.

Tim interviews Toby Pasman as they talk about the mind, brain maps & how there are ways to rewire the brain.  Super interesting stuff that was fun to learn!

Toby Pasman is a neurophysiology researcher who graduated from the University of Oregon in 2018 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and completed his Master’s of Psychology through Lynn University in 2021. He worked on the Emotions and Neuroplasticity Project at the Brain Development Lab at his university, learning how emotions relate to changes in key brain networks.

Toby got curious about whether he could hack his own brain and began experimenting with neurotechnology including neurofeedback and neurostimulation to work on his own social anxiety. He noticed great improvements in his verbal fluency and ability to stay relaxed in social situations.

Toby began working at a peak performance facility outside of Seattle, Washington, training high profile CEOs, professional athletes, and Hollywood actors, who were looking to maximize their brain performance, recording QEEG brain maps and utilizing neurofeedback and neurostimulation technology.

Toby has since worked in the substance abuse and mental health fields, utilizing QEEG brain mapping, neurofeedback, neurostimulation, and PEMF therapy to treat patients clinically. He trained under Dr. Nicholas Dogris, CEO of Neurofield Neurotherapy, learning extensively about applying various forms of neurostimulation to enhance brain performance.

Toby is currently training to become an accredited human potential coach through the Human Potential Institute.

This episode is very direct when it comes to the seriousness of suicide.  Tim does his best to make it as light hearted as he can, but the truth is, no matter how hard it can be to talk about these things, we have to break the stigma! Tim goes over suicide stats, facts & suggestions on how to help people in need!

Tim & Taylor have a lot of fun with the differences of culture, language and everyday life between the US & UK.  Like funerals, going out for drinks & what you call your friends!  This was a really fun interview and I know you'll really enjoy it.

Doug took time to sit down [virtually] with Tim to go over his organization Dream The Impossible. Which is to fix the lack of awareness surrounding Mental Health in the African American community. We know that a person’s mental health can be affected by many conditions and situations and it is our job as an organization to help find a bridge between that person’s current life and the resources they need to live a life they can be proud of.

Doug's friend AJ Morrison, suffered from severe depression for almost five years. Through many years of support, enough progress was not made to keep AJ alive. AJ's death sparked a fire in us to make people more aware of mental health issues and help them learn how to live an impactful life no matter what hurdles are placed in front of them. We aim to de-stigmatize mental health so that people don't feel as though something is wrong with them. Caring for your mental health is every bit as important as your physical well being.

In this episode Doug shares a story on how cut throat some NFL teams can be & Tim tries a new nickname for Doug, that he hope he likes!. Tim also asks what his go-to meal is at the Charlotte, NC fast food joint, the Cookout & what song he would choose as his personal entrance song.  You don't want to miss this episode!

Tim went into this a bit nervous, due to the topic & not wanting to say or ask the wrong thing, but Rachelle did a great job at answering difficult questions, as well as sharing her experience with postpartum depression. Tim did however know what a midwife was before coming into this conversation.

Tim & Rachelle have some fun at the end of the episode, talking about their favorite Adam Sandler movies, Canada stereotypes and 3 ridiculous things they are grateful for. Tim McCarthy and Haley Huseby, the hostess of Podcast27, come together to discuss a variety of subjects after connecting on Twitter when the new year began. With the podcast community being so large, some would think it would be hard to find people out there that give you the support you need when starting up a new project, but it’s the complete opposite. The podcast community holds some of the most encouraging supporters, and Tim and Haley have been lucky to connect not only with one another, but others from around the world, form lasting friendships and bring amazing hosts on for some rad interviews. In this episode’s interview we take a dive into Haley and Tim’s mental health diagnoses. Deeming themselves “bipolar siblings,” the two can relate very heavily to each other regarding their past with anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder. They discuss how their spouses help support them in the darker times, explain what intrusive thoughts feel like to them and open about about some of their mental health idols. But wait up! It’s not all mental health for this one, we get to hear about Tim’s air time on game shows and being from Boston. Is Haley sick of hearing The Devil Went Down To Georgia, being from Georgia? We’ll see. To wrap it all up, the two end the show with a list of things they’re thankful for - but they might surprise you.

Ever heard of it?  Tim dives into the traits of the manic side of bipolar.  It seems like a lot of people have trouble understanding what it's like and Tim tries his best at explaining his experience with it. He did have a recent episode this past week that he is a little hesitant to share.

But there's always some fun in these episodes.  Tim has his mind blown about an interesting fact about lightning, how COVID Zombies will most likely be a band name & an additional story about from his honeymoon.  This episode also features everyone's favorite, "words that Tim can't pronounce!"

On today's episode, Tim goes into the benefits of cold water swimming and how it can help relieve mental health issues.  Tim came to realize that's probably one of the reasons for his issues (kidding, but not really)

Episode 013 goes into classical music, snooty art people, and the origins of time.  At this point of the episode, he may be incoherent.  Also listen to the story of the second time Tim almost died in water and the time he left his car attended for multiple hours.

He tries to figure out what is bothering him, and then tells a story about the time a landlord/priest played a big part of his life. Tim made friends with Jong, a South Korean listener, and Tim helped him with a future art project by speaking on mental health.

This episode also features Tim's revelation he had as a young boy about sign language, and goes over more ADHD stories, as well as a conversation he had with a listener about constructive criticism.

This episode also has a fan favorite story from when Tim was 18 on his senior trip and how he made a ... mess.  This will be the last time Tim ever tells this story.  Can you blame him?  It's a story from 2004!  So be sure to check this episode out!

The episode talks about how tik-tok is borderline creepy and how it's probably a cesspool for potential predators.  Which results in a conversation about the connection on mental health and pedophilia.  It's a touchy topic for sure, but Tim throws his rare opinion on the matter.

Tim's still been having his ups and downs but thinks it could be his memory or a lack thereof. A close friend tells him about waking up and thinking of 3 things your grateful for, which Tim loved.  He said he would give his at the end of the episode, but... he forgot.

We time traveled from 2020 to 2021 and Tim dropped the ball, with the ball drop.  He also goes over how he was duped by his wife, which RARELY happens. The episode also goes over Casinos and how to handle your money. Tim also has been having a rough go at 2021 and dives into that with the help of his new book/journal.
