Divine Detour with Lori Ann Wood: when a crisis throws your life off course
1660

When Lori Ann Wood found her life drastically altered by a medical crisis, she learned it was a divine detour leading her to answer three urgent questions we all wrestle with. Wood's new book, Divine Detour, will release in February 2023.

Get Lori's free Resource, Hope for the Life You Didn't Choose at: https://lorieannwood.com/hope

Learn more about her upcoming book at https://loriannwood.com/books

Guest Bio:

Lori Ann Wood lives in the shadow of the Ozark Mountains in beautiful Bentonville, Arkansas, with her husband, the unsuspecting guy she chased all the way from 9th grade to grad school. She is mom to three world-changing young adults, one impressive son-in-law (who all live too far away) and a miniature dachshund named Pearl (who threatens to never leave). Her new favorite role is appropriately spoiling her granddaughter Hazel.

In addition to receiving the Frederick Buechner Narrative Essay Award from The Christian Century Magazine, her work has won awards from The Colorado Christian Writers Association and The Evangelical Press Association. Lori Ann has been published in numerous print journals including Just Between Us Magazine, The Joyful Life Magazine, Bella Grace Magazine, Heart Insight Magazine, and Sweet to the Soul FAITH Magazine. Her articles have also appeared on websites such as Pepperdine University Press, Yahoo Lifestyle, and MSN, and on blogs including Women | Faith & Story, Kindred Mom, WomenHeart, and The Mighty. Lori Ann also serves on the Blog Contributor Team for The Joyful Life Magazine.

But Lori Ann has not always been a writer.

A life detour reordered her priorities and rattled her faith.

In 2015, despite otherwise pristine health, Lori Ann almost died from heart failure from an unknown cause. Her heart was functioning at just 6%. She spent 14 days in ICU as doctors tried to save her life. Lori Ann was then transferred to the Cleveland Clinic where she became her doctor’s most critical patient for a year and a half. She was eventually implanted with a pacemaker and internal defibrillator. Against all medical odds, her heart function was initially restored sixteen months later. But as heart failure goes, her condition has experienced ups-and-downs since then. And as the Christian walk goes, so has her faith.

Having discovered this chronic, progressive condition almost too late, Lori Ann now writes to encourage difficult faith questions along the detours of life. Her passion is to connect with readers and help them hold onto their faith when they find themselves on a path they didn’t choose.

Her first book, Divine Detour: The Path You Didn’t Choose Can Lead to the Faith You’ve Always Wanted, will release in early 2023. Find her at https://loriannwood.com.

Unchartered Territory with Teresa Janzen
1302

Have you ever felt like you've suddenly gone off course  - detoured into unchartered territory? Teresa Janzen shares a ministry report and message that will encourage you on your journey - even when you have no idea what the future holds.

Lewis and Clark, the famous explorers,  navigated the Missouri River. They were expert river navigators, and they had a whole team of people with them called the Corp of Discovery.

They were given the commission by the President of the United States to find a water passage to the Pacific Ocean. This is going to be a game changer for the US for trade and development and all that type of stuff. And they navigated to the source of the Missouri.  and when they crested the mountain expecting to find a river on the other side, what they found was the Rocky Mountains—big surprise.

Sometimes you go into a situation thinking that you know what's going to be ahead. You've prepared for it. You took courses for it, you studied for it, you've held committee meetings for it, you've set budgets for it, and you crest the mountain and think you're going to move forward.  And all of a sudden you find yourself in a situation that you hadn't planned on, and nothing that you've done in the past has prepared you for it.

If you feel stuck in a rut and unable to move forward, get Teresa’s free guide, “Get Out of that Rut!” https://teresajanzen.com/unstuck/

Victory over Injustice: with Rusty Labuschagne
1447

Against police evidence, without a body and on presumptions, Rusty Labuschagne was convicted of drowning a fish poacher during Mugabe’s rule. He served 10 years in Zimbabwe’s prisons, including the notorious Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison, where he suffered through the Zim dollar crash, with food shortages, no running water, and people dying around him daily.

He speaks eloquently about being subjected to conditions most people would find unendurable, having to dig deep within himself to find solutions to an unbearable situation. His resilience, ability to face adversity, and pure grit are an unparalleled inspiration.

After years of bitterness and anger, Rusty learned how to forgive those who had caused
his suffering. He found that who you are and the depth of your determination
will get you through life’s darkest moments. Learn how to harness your inner
strength and let go of what you cannot control. Ultimately, it was faith in
God, a positive mental attitude, and lessons in forgiveness, gratitude, and
humility that probably saved his life.

 Connect with Rusty at https://beatingchans.com

 Guest Bio:

Rusty Labuschagne is a unique premier speaker on the professional circuit. One is immediately struck by his sincerity and humility as he delivers a dramatic account of his transformational experience. Rusty has been through a trauma few have experienced. In 2003, the successful Zimbabwean businessman, who ran a safari outfit, flew his own aircraft, and had a fishing resort on Lake Kariba, was framed by a poacher, the police, and the courts, and wrongfully convicted of drowning a poacher.

He talks and writes about being subjected to conditions most people would find unbearable, having to draw on his inner resources and strengths to endure the unimaginable. In the process, he developed not only a life-saving resilience but also empathy and a keen desire to help his fellow inmates. His faith in God, positive mental attitude, leadership qualities, and lessons in forgiveness, gratitude, and humility bring a personal, transformative, and authentic message of hope and freedom.

In his book and to audiences, Rusty’s message is that everyone is faced with challenges, but it is who you are and the depth of your determination that will get you through life’s darkest moments. He shows how one can harness one’s inner strength and let go of what one cannot control. His talks have a broad audience appeal, from leadership lessons for CEOs and managers to inspiration and staff members’ motivation. They will all feel an impact.

Where God's Wealth Meets God's Wisdom with Johnny McWilliams
1248

There is one topic we've never covered on Radical Abundance, and that's wealth. Today, Coach Johnny McWilliams shares insights on the intersection of God's Wealth and God's Wisdom. And don't miss the free gift below.

Wait until you hear what the first step Coach Johnny says you need to get out of debt and create more abundance in your life.

Coach Johnny is offering an exclusive offer to the Radical Abundance audience. You can download a free copy of his first book at http://radicalabundance.zeroinfinancial.com/

Guest Bio:
Johnny McWilliams, author of the 4-book series, INTERSECTION—Where God’s Wealth Meets God’s Wisdom, writes with the central message of planning your finances to involve God from the word ‘Go.’

It is not merely a matter of knowing God’s principles in dealing with your finances. It is about making your entire life plan, and hence your finances, centered on God’s purpose for your life.

Johnny came to this place of faith after making some serious money blunders—all because he did not consult his Wealth-Maker. Only when he gave control of his life back to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and began living by the Word, did his financial situation start to turn around and bring such lasting returns that he is now able to teach others.

Founder of Zero In Financial LLC, Johnny guides his students, customers, and clients as they RECOVER from past money mistakes, GROW their present pocketbook position, and ZERO IN on their future financial fortune.

After working as a tax preparer, dissecting the details of credit scoring and reporting, passing various exams and licensure, including Series 7, Series 66, life & health insurance, and real estate broker, Johnny realized the average American’s need for financial coaching, education, and inspiration.

Once Johnny completed ten years of enlistment in the United States Navy, graduated with a Master of Business Administration, worked as a property & casualty insurance consultant, and became certified as a Ramsey Solutions Master Financial Coach, he began guiding individuals and families to Zero In on their financial target.

My Mother's Wildest Dream - interview with Nyajuok Tongyik Doluony - breaking cultural norms
2016

About the guest: Growing up between two refugee camps, Nyajuok and her family lived at the limited generosity of the United Nations (U.N). Shortly after her family moved to the United States of America, Nyajuok found herself in another war when her family forced her into an arranged marriage at 14 years old. Hoping for a better future, she broke cultural norms and practices to pave a better future for herself and future generations despite what her family or her community thought. With three children, a failing marriage, health problems, and a doomed career, Nyajuok became hopeless and contemplated ending her life. Luckily, her Christian upbringing saved her when she was on the verge of suicide. Nyajuok realized that her lifelong struggles and unrelenting will to succeed could be a survival guide for someone in their darkest moments. As difficult as it was to relive these moments making this book come to life, she knew her experiences were not only for her but for those who might be walking a similar path. After putting her misfortunes down on paper, Nyajuok learned her ultimate life purpose. She became a champion of resilience. In this captivating memoir, Nyajuok illustrates her life story unapologetically despite coming from a patriarchal society in an East African country. Her life is a true testimony that no matter where we come from or what we have faced, the American Dream is alive and available to anyone willing to work for it.

We are all Foreigners on Earth - so how can we love our immigrant neighbor?
2357

Have you ever felt alone and out of place? As followers of Jesus Christ, we are all foreigners on earth.

Today we continue to talk about love but in a different context. In the first half of the show we look at the immigrant journey and how we can love our immigrant neighbor, then we transition to the realization that we are all immigrants, or foreigners, on earth.

You’ll want to listen to the end because that’s where the good stuff is.

Guest Bio:

Born and raised within the minority Christian community in India, Mabel Ninan moved to America in 2008. As she struggled to fit in and longed for rootedness and belonging, God opened her eyes to the fact that she was a spiritual immigrant too, a foreigner on earth who does not belong in this world. Her mission is to encourage believers to embrace their immigrant journey on earth and live out their calling with boldness and passion.

Mabel's writings explore the intersection between faith, culture, and identity. Her articles have been published in CBN.com, The Upper Room, (in)courage.me, and Leading Hearts magazine. Her essay, "#LockdownLessons: How the Pandemic Reshaped My Understanding of Church", published in LeadingHearts.com as well as Courageous Magazine (India), won the Selah Award (Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference) in the essay category in 2021.

Mabel's first book, "Far from Home: Discovering Your Identity as Foreigners on Earth" will be released in July 2022 by Iron Stream Media. She is a contributor to Guideposts’, "All God’s Creatures 2022: Daily Devotions for Animal Lovers".

Host of the YouTube channel, "Immigrant Faith Stories," Mabel is currently pursuing M.A. in Theological Studies from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. A lover of books, Zumba, and tea, Mabel lives in Northern California with her husband, her ten-year-old son, and a Maltese.

Love Big: a humanitarian collective for development with Mark Westmoreland
1833

Love Big provides a web-based platform to connect humanitarian organizations with those in need.  Along with our indigenous partners, Love Big is currently doing the groundwork to gather and provide data on humanitarian needs relating to water, food, medicine, and other projects.

Local and international organizations who know the geography and local population where these needs exist will adopt these projects. We will provide our partner organizations with local contacts and the coordinates for these vetted projects, and they will go to work together.

We are a faith-based, Christian organization and believe in the trinitarian God of the Bible. We believe we were created to reflect His love, mercy, and grace. The Bible and historic writers accurately account that Jesus associated with, served, healed, and taught the oppressed, the sick, the hungry, and the afflicted.  Jesus exemplified and articulated the priority of loving both God and our neighbors. These were the “greatest” commandments (Jesus).  Love Big attempts to live out these commandments by doing our humanly best version of what He did and asked.

In the end, lives will change, communities will be transformed, and a missional church will emerge.

We are in the final stages of the site build and have partners ready to test the site with projects upon completion.

Get updates on the project or connect with Mark at mark@lovebig.org

Mode of Operation:
•         Research is Crowd-Sourced Locally

Why is Grace Foundational to Christian Faith?
1508

What is God's grace and why is it so difficult to understand?

Grace is completely contrary to our human culture. We like things to be fair. God gives us grace without any regard to our behavior. To some, that may seem unfair.

The theological definition of Grace is unmerited favor. It's being rewarded even when you don't deserve to be. Even more, it is reward without any regard for our behavior whatsoever.

God gives us benefits in spite of and completely without regard to our behavior. If that weren't so, we would be earning salvation rather than receiving it--and that is contrary to salvation through faith. Sure we do good things - hopefully because of gratitude toward God for all he has done for us, but that is not why we receive the benefit of a relationship with God and eternal life.

Grace and a Rights-based Approach to Development
1885

Grace is understood by Christians to be a spontaneous gift from God to people – "generous, free and totally unexpected and undeserved" – that takes the form of divine favor, love, clemency, and a share in the divine life of God. It is an attribute of God that is most manifest in the salvation of sinners. Grace is most often described as God's unmerited favor toward His people.

The Radical Abundance theme for January is God's Abundance of Grace.

We are starting off the series with a discussion indirectly related to grace-- the rights-based approach to development work and humanitarian aid. Before 1997, most UN development agencies pursued a ‘basic needs’ approach: They identified basic requirements of people and either supported initiatives to improve service delivery or advocated for their fulfillment.

A human rights-based approach seeks to reinforce the capacities of duty bearers (usually governments) to respect, protect and guarantee the rights of people. It aims to address development complexities holistically, taking into consideration the connections between individuals and the systems of power or influence. And it endeavors to create dynamics of accountability.

But there is a big challenge in actually implementing a rights-based approach to development. It begins with inconsistent definitions of rights and the lack of understanding of whose responsibility it is to provide goods and services to people in need. This often leads to entitlement, dependency, and continued poverty.

Dan and Teresa Janzen live and serve in South Sudan where God's grace intersects with mankind's needs.

Abundance of Vision in the Nuba Mountains - GNAC Conference Report
1038

GNAC started with the simple idea of basing a coalition on the unity and synergy found in the Book of Acts, where believers shared all things in common and worked unflinchingly toward the fulfillment of the Great Commission, along the way ministering to physical as well as spiritual needs of all those they encountered.

Unlike a faith-based NGO, GNAC fulfills its mission and vision by working in conjunction with partner organizations like Africa Inland Mission (AIM), One Tribe and Sister Effect, Joining Our Voices and Nuba Christian Family Mission, Lift up the Vulnerable, Jesus Film, Partners International, e3 Partners, ACROSS, International Aid Services.  Frontiers, and Pioneers.  Also partner coalitions like the Sahel Initiative, Vision 5:9, GACX and the Missions Awareness Consultative Conf. (MACC).

Lastly, the many churches and individuals in Sudan and globally working to make a difference in our world. The Four Pillars of Gospel, Education, Relief and Capacity Building, along with the annual conference bringing the world to the isolated Nuba people, are the two main vehicles GNAC uses to coalesce the many giftings and talents of its members into ACTsion!

The Father's Blessing: healing wounds and knowing you are wanted and loved
2382
God has designed us to have a Radical Abundance of Vision, yet we often feel incapable, unworthy, or afraid. What causes this lack of confidence and fear to pursue our God-given vision?  The root is often found in childhood wounds that left us feeling unloved and unwanted.

Papa Ray knows the fear of abandonment and the pain of rejection that growing up without a father can cause. He knows firsthand the struggle of not believing he was worthy or loved.

These struggles took him through two devastating, life-changing depressions. In the first one he went bankrupt, losing his business and his home. In the second, some twenty years later, he nearly lost his life.

After this second battle with depression, a significant shift happened. Ray realized that he was not the only one who felt forsaken and left alone to fight for his life. Assisting others as they faced their hurts and overcame their pain gave him a sense of purpose. He understood that his life's calling was to reach out to help other people feel loved and wanted.

Now Papa Ray's greatest passion is writing and developing easy-to-understand teachings people can follow to show them how they are worthy and help them see their real purpose in life—to help them find freedom!

His new motto has become: “I will be to the world what the world was not to me when I needed them.”

By touching people's hearts and filling them with love, Papa Ray has helped thousands feel wanted as a son or daughter and be able to receive love from their heavenly Father.
