Divine Detour with Lori Ann Wood: when a crisis throws your life off course
1660
When Lori Ann Wood found her life drastically altered by a medical crisis, she learned it was a divine detour leading her to answer three urgent questions we all wrestle with. Wood's new book, Divine Detour, will release in February 2023. Get Lori's free Resource, Hope for the Life You Didn't Choose at: https://lorieannwood.com/hope Learn more about her upcoming book at https://loriannwood.com/books Guest Bio: Lori Ann Wood lives in the shadow of the Ozark Mountains in beautiful Bentonville, Arkansas, with her husband, the unsuspecting guy she chased all the way from 9th grade to grad school. She is mom to three world-changing young adults, one impressive son-in-law (who all live too far away) and a miniature dachshund named Pearl (who threatens to never leave). Her new favorite role is appropriately spoiling her granddaughter Hazel. In addition to receiving the Frederick Buechner Narrative Essay Award from The Christian Century Magazine, her work has won awards from The Colorado Christian Writers Association and The Evangelical Press Association. Lori Ann has been published in numerous print journals including Just Between Us Magazine, The Joyful Life Magazine, Bella Grace Magazine, Heart Insight Magazine, and Sweet to the Soul FAITH Magazine. Her articles have also appeared on websites such as Pepperdine University Press, Yahoo Lifestyle, and MSN, and on blogs including Women | Faith & Story, Kindred Mom, WomenHeart, and The Mighty. Lori Ann also serves on the Blog Contributor Team for The Joyful Life Magazine. But Lori Ann has not always been a writer. A life detour reordered her priorities and rattled her faith. In 2015, despite otherwise pristine health, Lori Ann almost died from heart failure from an unknown cause. Her heart was functioning at just 6%. She spent 14 days in ICU as doctors tried to save her life. Lori Ann was then transferred to the Cleveland Clinic where she became her doctor’s most critical patient for a year and a half. She was eventually implanted with a pacemaker and internal defibrillator. Against all medical odds, her heart function was initially restored sixteen months later. But as heart failure goes, her condition has experienced ups-and-downs since then. And as the Christian walk goes, so has her faith. Having discovered this chronic, progressive condition almost too late, Lori Ann now writes to encourage difficult faith questions along the detours of life. Her passion is to connect with readers and help them hold onto their faith when they find themselves on a path they didn’t choose. Her first book, Divine Detour: The Path You Didn’t Choose Can Lead to the Faith You’ve Always Wanted, will release in early 2023. Find her at https://loriannwood.com. You took courses for it, you studied for it, you've held committee meetings for it, you've set budgets for it, and you crest the mountain and think you're going to move forward. And all of a sudden you find yourself in a situation that you hadn't planned on, and nothing that you've done in the past has prepared you for it. Victory over Injustice: with Rusty Labuschagne
1447
Against police evidence, without a body and on presumptions, Rusty Labuschagne was convicted of drowning a fish poacher during Mugabe’s rule. He served 10 years in Zimbabwe’s prisons, including the notorious Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison, where he suffered through the Zim dollar crash, with food shortages, no running water, and people dying around him daily. He speaks eloquently about being subjected to conditions most people would find unendurable, having to dig deep within himself to find solutions to an unbearable situation. His resilience, ability to face adversity, and pure grit are an unparalleled inspiration.
After years of bitterness and anger, Rusty learned how to forgive those who had caused Connect with Rusty at https://beatingchans.com Guest Bio: Rusty Labuschagne is a unique premier speaker on the professional circuit. One is immediately struck by his sincerity and humility as he delivers a dramatic account of his transformational experience. Rusty has been through a trauma few have experienced. In 2003, the successful Zimbabwean businessman, who ran a safari outfit, flew his own aircraft, and had a fishing resort on Lake Kariba, was framed by a poacher, the police, and the courts, and wrongfully convicted of drowning a poacher. He talks and writes about being subjected to conditions most people would find unbearable, having to draw on his inner resources and strengths to endure the unimaginable. In the process, he developed not only a life-saving resilience but also empathy and a keen desire to help his fellow inmates. His faith in God, positive mental attitude, leadership qualities, and lessons in forgiveness, gratitude, and humility bring a personal, transformative, and authentic message of hope and freedom. In his book and to audiences, Rusty’s message is that everyone is faced with challenges, but it is who you are and the depth of your determination that will get you through life’s darkest moments. He shows how one can harness one’s inner strength and let go of what one cannot control. His talks have a broad audience appeal, from leadership lessons for CEOs and managers to inspiration and staff members’ motivation. They will all feel an impact. My Mother's Wildest Dream - interview with Nyajuok Tongyik Doluony - breaking cultural norms
2016
About the guest: Growing up between two refugee camps, Nyajuok and her family lived at the limited generosity of the United Nations (U.N). Shortly after her family moved to the United States of America, Nyajuok found herself in another war when her family forced her into an arranged marriage at 14 years old. Hoping for a better future, she broke cultural norms and practices to pave a better future for herself and future generations despite what her family or her community thought. With three children, a failing marriage, health problems, and a doomed career, Nyajuok became hopeless and contemplated ending her life. Luckily, her Christian upbringing saved her when she was on the verge of suicide. Nyajuok realized that her lifelong struggles and unrelenting will to succeed could be a survival guide for someone in their darkest moments. As difficult as it was to relive these moments making this book come to life, she knew her experiences were not only for her but for those who might be walking a similar path. After putting her misfortunes down on paper, Nyajuok learned her ultimate life purpose. She became a champion of resilience. In this captivating memoir, Nyajuok illustrates her life story unapologetically despite coming from a patriarchal society in an East African country. Her life is a true testimony that no matter where we come from or what we have faced, the American Dream is alive and available to anyone willing to work for it. Abundance of Vision in the Nuba Mountains - GNAC Conference Report
1038
GNAC started with the simple idea of basing a coalition on the unity and synergy found in the Book of Acts, where believers shared all things in common and worked unflinchingly toward the fulfillment of the Great Commission, along the way ministering to physical as well as spiritual needs of all those they encountered.
Unlike a faith-based NGO, GNAC fulfills its mission and vision by working in conjunction with partner organizations like Africa Inland Mission (AIM), One Tribe and Sister Effect, Joining Our Voices and Nuba Christian Family Mission, Lift up the Vulnerable, Jesus Film, Partners International, e3 Partners, ACROSS, International Aid Services. Frontiers, and Pioneers. Also partner coalitions like the Sahel Initiative, Vision 5:9, GACX and the Missions Awareness Consultative Conf. (MACC).
Lastly, the many churches and individuals in Sudan and globally working to make a difference in our world. The Four Pillars of Gospel, Education, Relief and Capacity Building, along with the annual conference bringing the world to the isolated Nuba people, are the two main vehicles GNAC uses to coalesce the many giftings and talents of its members into ACTsion! The Father's Blessing: healing wounds and knowing you are wanted and loved
2382
God has designed us to have a Radical Abundance of Vision, yet we often feel incapable, unworthy, or afraid. What causes this lack of confidence and fear to pursue our God-given vision? The root is often found in childhood wounds that left us feeling unloved and unwanted. Support the showPapa Ray knows the fear of abandonment and the pain of rejection that growing up without a father can cause. He knows firsthand the struggle of not believing he was worthy or loved. These struggles took him through two devastating, life-changing depressions. In the first one he went bankrupt, losing his business and his home. In the second, some twenty years later, he nearly lost his life. After this second battle with depression, a significant shift happened. Ray realized that he was not the only one who felt forsaken and left alone to fight for his life. Assisting others as they faced their hurts and overcame their pain gave him a sense of purpose. He understood that his life's calling was to reach out to help other people feel loved and wanted. Now Papa Ray's greatest passion is writing and developing easy-to-understand teachings people can follow to show them how they are worthy and help them see their real purpose in life—to help them find freedom! His new motto has become: “I will be to the world what the world was not to me when I needed them.” By touching people's hearts and filling them with love, Papa Ray has helped thousands feel wanted as a son or daughter and be able to receive love from their heavenly Father.
