Biblical Wealth and a Good Reputation | Kris Bennett

This week I got to talk to a long time friend I've kept in touch with over the years since we both attended Bible School, albeit having both gone on way different albeit similar journeys.

Kris Bennett was the one who answered the phone when I called FIRE School of Ministry in the summer of 2001 regarding the status of my application to the school.

After all these years we're finally having a recorded conversation and discussing things he doesn't talk much about on his own podcast, The Storage Investor Show.

In this episode we discuss:

  • Imposter Syndrome and the various ways we've both faced it in our lives, education and businesses.
  • What barrier to entry one might have in fulfilling their call; for one person that might be higher education, for another specific vocational skills
  • The challenges of fund raising vs tentmaking and freelancing
  • Wealth and a good reputation as outlined in the book of Proverbs
  • The rewards of diligence in both ministry and in businesss.
  • If you can solve someone's "bleeding neck problem", you can get paid well and never need to worry ever gain about providing for your family if you possess such skills.

...among quite a few other things.

You can subscribe to Kris's podcast wherever you get your favorite podcasts, as well as check out our discussion on the same app.

Thriving on Purpose & The Scribe Anointing | Sebastien Richard

This week I got to sit down over Zoom and talk to my first French Canadian guest, Sebastien Richard.

He's the author of several books, including I Did It All For You: An Intimate Letter from Jesus and the founder of The Thriving on Purpose Academy, which includes discipleship courses but also Kingdom Writing courses.

We talked about our similar experiences growing up in Canada before the turn of the Millennium, as well as

  • The influence teachers had on us in our writing and public speaking gifts at a young age and the power of words and encouragement in our kids' lives
  • What is the Scribe anointing?
  • And other tweetable quotes that Sebastien is loaded with.

Why Are So Many Christian Authors Afraid of Marketing? | J.D. King

We finally have a new interview on the podcast, and it's with someone I would have had on the show earlier had I actually been podcasting in the last three years.

Welcome J.D. King.

This show is still called 'fire on your head', and we're all about spreading the fire of the Gospel to as many as we can with our sphere of influence and with our resources and to teach and train disciples to do the same.

So how come so many Christians who would claim to have the same type of goal, trip up on the idea of doing anything to make sure people even know about the message God has birthed in them?

Should Church Leaders Write a Book? | Church Solutions guest appearance

This week I was a guest on a podcast geared toward pastors and the tech people who work with churches and ministries.

Talk about a niche audience.

I was invited to talk about book writing and whether it would behoove pastors to create a book since most of them are already crafting weekly messages for a local audience, so why not a broader one through their writing?

We also discussed,

  • Who should write a book (and why)?
  • What about audio books, should they be included?
  • What are the benefits of having your own book?
  • Can you actually make a living from your book?

You can check out my episode of The Church Solutions Podcast with Phil Thompson and Steve Lacy wherever you get your podcasts.

The books I mentioned and said I'd link to in the show notes:

And of course, reach out to me if you've got a message burning inside you to release to the world but need my help putting it into a book.

Are You Really A Missionary?
I tackle a couple of world events. I say a “couple”, though it’s true, but I spend more time disproportionately focused on the situation of John Allen Chau, the missionary who was killed by The Sentinelese tribe on the North Sentinel Island off the coast of India.
I felt like I needed to say something and offer my perspective, hoping that my slant is unique not just because I’m also a missionary — plenty of missionaries are chiming in on social media. Not just because I have a platform to do so, and not just because I have any opinions.
But I feel like this is one of those gray areas and the rightness or foolishness of his actions which led to him being killed are not as black and white as people taking sides about this would insist it is.
I respect and agree with my brothers and sisters in Christ who feel Chau counted the cost and will receive a martyr’s reward, while I ALSO have reservations and feelings that the perspective he went about this the way he did was also a bit misguided.
But after that I have difficult with the oversimplifying of this that people on both sides are doing.
Since the topic is multi-faceted, I decided to turn on the mic and share my thoughts verbally, for those of you who would want them, so there’s less confusion about what I’m saying if you can hear me out instead of just reading me out. And hopefully not adding to the noise.
I’ve also thought of many other things I could have said and thoughts I could have included in this recording that I didn’t, but there are a lot of misconceptions about what a missionary is as it is that perhaps I’ll explore in another episode or find a suitable guest to have a discussion with about these things. But suffice it to say, I hope you get some value out of these thoughts today.
Blessings to you!

Branding 110 Publishing Your Own Books | Reformation Designs guest appearance

I got to be interviewed by Ryan J. Rhoades, founder of Reformation Designs this past weekend. He does a weekly FB live interview series on the subject of branding. We talked about writing and publishing books, of course.

This is the raw file, unedited, so there were a few glitches, and you hear me say um and uh a lot more than normal as a result.

We covered a lot, but if you’re ready to soak in some information like a sponge or writing a book is something you’ve been wanting to do then this video should help get you off to a good start.

Ryan and I have been in conversation for some time now and we’ve finally joined forces and are providing a comprehensive package for authors and writers wanting to create an excellent, professional and high quality book.

Ryan will be doing all the visual branding (covers, social media images, website artwork if needed, etc…) for our authors, while I’ll continue coaching writers and helping craft their content.

If you’re not an author yourself but know someone who could use our help, we offer a 5% referral fee. If you refer someone to us and they become a paying client of ours, we’ll award you 5% of what we earn on that project.

Creating a book is a huge endevor, and since we value and appreciate that someone is coming to us and trusting us with bringing their “baby” into the world,  we want to thank you for recommending us to them with a paid referral.

If you would like to work with us on your book, or need help creating it, get in touch and book a call with me below and we’ll see if we’d make a good team together. After booking you will be re-directed to an application form which will help us know more about your project before the call.

A Year of Living Homeless | Derek Snook

Derek Snook, self-described son of a Baptist minister and entrepeneur joins me to discuss his recent book, The Definition of Success: What Living Homeless Can Teach You.

He tells me what was intended as a one-night experiment lasted a year, and years later he has decided to publish a book about how this experience had an impact on him and what he learned from it, including a well-paying temp agency he started and recently sold.

Definitely a different take on "loving your neighbor as yourself" if I ever heard one!

A few interesting points that came up in our discussion:

  • While Derek could have quit this experiment at any given momenty and gone back home, most homeless and less fortunate don't have that option
  • How living in bubbles in our culture is destructive to indviduals and groups, including the toll isolation is taking on mental health in general
  • The intriguing way a city's layout is actually important to society
  • What can we do to erase the barrier between wealthy and poor churches, as well as the racial divide, even in the church, between black and white congregations

The Passionate Heart of a Loving God | Dr. Brian Simmons

Dr. Brian Simmons, lead translator for The Passion Translation of the Bible joins me this week for an insightful interview and discussion.

In this episode we cover:

  • How he handles peoples' criticism that he's a "lone ranger" translating the Bible; and how he learns to listen to critics in case God is speaking to him through them
  • Epiphanies he had while discovering the appropriate words in the text while translating the Bible into a tribal dialect as a missionary
  • How his translation work has helped him see a few popular Bible passages we've been misunderstanding in English
  • We also discuss our mutual favorite book of the book, Song of Songs
  • I also ask Brian if Jesus spoke in tongues (a question I've been asked since releasing my book on Lies People Believe About Speaking in Tongues.
  • The importance of translating meanings not just words
  • And much more...

Breaking the Power of Familiar Spirits | Kimberly Daniels

Florida State Representative Kimberly Daniels and pastor of Spoken Word Ministries church in North and South Florida joins us this week to discuss her brand new book Breaking the Power of Familiar Spirits: How to Deal with Demonic Conspiracies from Charisma House.

We discuss:

  • Her background including before she came to Christ and was bound by drugs
  • How she got into politics, first as a council member in Jacksonville, FL and then as a member of the Florida House of Representatives
  • How one can have soul ties not just to other people, but also to ministries and places
  • Strategies of the enemy to attempt to cause you to not fulfill your calling
  • The balance in her life as a pastor and a public servant
  • Witchcraft, fetishism, and cursed objects that can bring trouble into our homes.

This was a very fascinating conversation, and I hope you enjoy it (which I believe you will).

Reflections on the Timing of Pentecost

I recorded an impromptu episode a couple of nights ago, rather spontaneously and share some of my thoughts and things I've recently learned about the Day of Pentecost. If you're a Bible detail geek like me, you'll be just as fascinated to reflect on the times and seasons of the Lord and patterns in Scripture. Such as the things we glean about Pentecost by looking at just what the people of God were celebrating in the first place on that day when Jews from all around the world had gathered in Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Harvest or the Feast of Weeks.

This week's episode is a shorty but goodie. Hope you are uplifted and edified by it.

Playing with Holy Fire | Dr. Michael L. Brown

Dr. Michael L. Brown joins me again, this time to talk about his newest book, Playing With Holy Fire. It was a privilege and an honor to have him back on the show again.

We discuss some of the excesses and abuses that plague the charismatic movement and Pentecostal church, as well as other aspects of the abuse of funds and "fame" of some preachers, all in a gracious tone, without calling anybody out by name.

For those of you listening and you have no idea who he is, he’s got a lot of other books and sermons he’s given about various topics, like revival in America, personal holiness, Jewish apologetics, the culture wars, to name a few. He’s also a national radio show host his show is called The Line of Fire
He was one of the leaders of The Brownsville Revival, which birthed the FIRE School of Ministry that I went to in my early twenties.

The Veil: Seeing in the Spirit | Blake Healy

We talk about seeing in the spiritual realm in this episode of the podcast with Blake Healy, author of The Veil

Ministry has been a foundational part of Blake’s life from the very beginning. He grew up as a missionary kid, living throughout different parts of Western Europe. He got involved in the prophetic ministry at the age of twelve and started serving on prophetic teams when he was thirteen. He began teaching about the prophetic at fifteen. He now travels around the world teaching about the prophetic and seeing in the spirit.

Since moving to Atlanta with his wife April, Blake has been serving in the Bethel Atlanta School of Supernatural Ministry and is now the Director of Bethel Atlanta’s School of Supernatural Ministry and oversees the Prophetic Ministry at the church.

What is God Really Like? | S.J. Hill

We misunderstand the difference between the God who is presented in the Old Testament and the seemingly contradictory one we see in the New Testament.

Today's guest tells us that there are aspects of God's personality we haven't even begun to tap into! How often do you think of God's artistry, creativity and ... humility. Wait, God is humble?

Yes, he's the epitome of humility!

Join me this week as I finally talk again with S.J. Hill for the first time on the podcast in nearly 5 years and he shares why!

Things that came up (sorta in this order):

  • The Jewish approach to Scriptures at the time
  • We're to begin with Jesus as our template, not Moses
  • The significance of it being Moses & Elijah who appeared with Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration
  • Authors of the Scriptures and how they were inspired and not dictated to, leading to imagery and wording unique to many of their personalities
  • What is God's wrath? Is he actively attacking and punishing those he's disappointed with, or allowing them to have their own way (ie. sowing and reaping) and experience the consequences?
  • Penal substitutionary atonement -- OK we didn't use that phrase exactly, but we do discuss whether Jesus really saved us FROM the Father's anger
  • How can I open up to God if I think he's always angry with me?

And I think one of my favorite parts of today's podcast was the part where we discuss HUMOR in the New Testament, particularly the parables of Jesus.

Mind Over Matter?

Ever wonder what causes some people who've lost a limb to feel phantom pains as though they still had that limb?

Or what makes some people want to cut off their own leg?

Ever wonder how a really handsome guy or a stunningly beautiful woman could have horribly low self-esteem and believe themselves to be ugly?

I'll give you a common denominator: it's all in the mind.

This week I discuss a few of these things as they relate to our inner man coming through and having more influence over our natural man in this realm.

If stress and worrying can have detrimental effects on our physical health, can't positive imaging and faith not in turn have the opposite?

My Narration of Lovesick: Open to Me by Eric Gilmour

Lovesick: the latest audiobook I was privileged to narrate for Eric Gilmour. This makes my fourth one, and I’m not saying this just to promote it, but it’s hands down my favorite of his so far — and I’ve read all of them but one.

I don’t know whether it’s because of the content, or the fact that every time I record an audiobook for Eric I feel the presence of God strongly in my recording studio, and I just simply get edified a tremendous amount. Or whether it’s the use of a few key verses from the Song of Solomon — my favorite book of the Bible — that he uses to frame his chapters.

But it’s a great book, whether you read it or listen to the audiobook, which Eric has made available ahead of the print or digital versions. He’s released it on his YouTube Channel, which you can listen to below or open in a new tab or browser so you can listen and not be stuck on this page.

The book is now available in paperback and hardcover format.

About Eric:

Eric William Gilmour is the founder of Sonship International – a ministry seeking to bring the church into a deeper experience of God’s presence in their daily lives. Eric is a speaker and author who enjoys sharing on the revelation of Jesus Christ in the Scriptures and personal experience of God. The Cost & The Reward

Just a quick FB Live I did a few weeks ago but hadn't had the time to edit into an audio podcast.

I share some quick insights regarding paying the price, whatever that may be for us individually, when we have a vision or an image we can latch on to.

The writer of Hebrews says of Jesus "...for the joy set before him, endured the cross."

I contrast this with looking at the behavior and actions of the man who found the treasure in a field and immediately went and sold all he had so he could buy the field he found it in.

In other unrelated news, I've been lacking in the podcast updates lately while I focus on my new business and strategy for staying funded on the mission field.

Stolen Wallets and Temples of the Holy Spirit

Sorry for the poor sound quality for this episode. I tried doing my first Facebook Live podcast the other night, and this is the audio from the video. I cleaned it up as best as I could but it's not as crisp and clean sounding as normal.

Anyway, I share a funny or confusing testimony about having had my wallet stolen, and then some thoughts on 2 Samuel 7:3-16 when God spoke to David about why he would not be the one to build Him a temple.

Drop the Stones | Carlos A. Rodriguez

This week after a long hiatus from doing interviews, we welcome back on the podcast Carlos Rodriguez.

This time it was over Skype as he was back in Raleigh, North Carolina and I’m here in Peru (I still thank God for technology!). You may recall he’s the author of the wildly popular Happy Sonship blog, and he’s got a new book coming out with Whitacker House called Drop The Stones: When Love Reaches the Unlovable
Things we talked about:
  • Being fans of Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul and his own time of breaking bad and stepping down from ministry
  • Inspiration for the book and how it came about since the last time we interviewed him in the Spring of last year
  • We then get talking around the text that his book is based on, John 8 where the woman was caught in adultery and Jesus handled the situation beautifully when the religious leaders threw her at his feet and demanded he obey the law and stone her or see to it that she was stoned.

We ponder and discuss how there’s power in Jesus’ words “go and sin no more” because he first said to her “neither do I condemn you”. It seems there’s camps of people in the Body of Christ who emphasize one aspect of Jesus’ words to her while neglecting the other.

Speaking in Tongues -- Workouts For Your Inner Man

You may have noticed I’ve been posting fewer podcast episodes in recent months as well. I haven’t gone anywhere, but I have added a new habit to my lifestyle that in some ways has interfered with the time in my routine I used to have for writing and recording. I’ve been going to the gym.

For the first time in my adult life, I have a gym membership, and I have lost almost 26 lbs since July 2nd.

I’ve also likened speaking in tongues to a workout for your inner man the same way hitting the gym, using weights and cardio machines are a workout for your physical body.

Today's podcast is half stream-of-consciousness and half re-iterating thoughts from my blog post about this from a few weeks ago that seemed to really resonate with people and encourage people to pray in tongues more.

Did Matthew 24 Already Happen? | Dave Edwards

This is the second half of the discussion I recorded with Dave Edwards a few months ago. We discussed preterism and futurism, which basically are diametrically opposed worldviews when it comes to end-times theology, and how each one shapes your outlook in obvious ways.

Topics covered:

  • What is the purpose of gemstones?
  • How does he answer critics and skeptics
  • Job and his friends
  • Divine healing
  • signs and wonders in general
  • God doing things outside of our box, or things God does that we don't know "the full picture" of

My Kindle & Audiobook Recommendations for Getting out of the Upper Room

I recorded this episode about 6 weeks ago and never got around to editing it and publishing it online. I shared from an article of Kris Vallatton's called 6 Reasons to Write and spent the second half of the show giving my personal Kindle and Audio book recommendations in relation to leaving your safety net and taking the leap, albeit my point of reference is obviously related to writing, but I am positive you will get stuff out of today's show with other entrepreneurial ideas or dreams you are sitting on.

Wind In Your Hands & Testimonies | David Edwards

Hey guys,

Sorry for the delay in new episodes. Recently I got a chance to catch up with David Edwards, as we're trying to post episodes together than more than once per year. This week I had not done a good job double checking that my Electro Voice mic was the input source for our skype call, so the result is crap quality sound, but stellar quality revelation Dave shares with us and testimonies that seem to keep involving wind of the Holy Spirit.

Listen and be encouraged!

Also, don't forget to check out the new podcast I'm a part of called Warriors on the Wall with James Edwards, Travis Brown and Lawrence DeBold where we discuss current events every two weeks from a various Christian perspectives.

Face to Face with God: No Need For Other Intermediaries

Hey friends,
Sorry for the delay in posting a new episode. As I share in the beginning, I've been really struggling with allergy flare-ups since it's incredibly humid down here in the part of Peru where we live.

This week I shared some thoughts and reflections on why we crave religious institutions and why is it so easy for human beings to desire someone else to do our spirituality for us while we sit back and become spectators.

We don’t usually think of Moses with “goodness” and grace. Yet, the Apostle Paul compared this as inferior to the glory we get to know in the face of Christ under a new covenant!

What happened?

“Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.” (Ex 34:30)

Not only were they afraid, but Moses had to wear a veil over his face whenever he was not speaking with God (vv 33-35)

This is one thing we see in humankind over and over again. Like the first time Moses ascended the mountain, the very people God wanted to come inhabit and have relationship with wanted to keep God at arm’s length and obey rules and a command without yet knowing what they would be.

These are some of the things I dive into today as I reflect on how God wants to inhabit us, dwell among us and have relationship with us directly and not through our leaders or any other intermediary.

Azusa Now or Azusa Already?

After spending the better part of the weekend in bed sick over the weekend, I got myself up on Monday to try kicking this cold that I've been fighting and recorded some of my thoughts into my microphone.  I get a little preachy. But it's also with trepidation that I share these thoughts because I'm not trying to just be a critical armchair critic.

There are two main points I cover today:

1) I share quotes from an eyewitness of the Azusa Street Revival who talks of how it was totally spontaneous and everybody contributing -- kinda like the stuff we've been discussing on the podcast about house churches and organic churches.

2) Then I get into full-on "preach mode" and spend time in the whole paragraph of 2 Chronicles 7 that the infamous prayer meeting verse comes from.

After listening to this through for a full edit, I realize there's a lot left to be said and that I've left out, but I guess we'll just have to get back to that later, eh?

I don't dog the importance of gathering together to pray, but simply remind you what we need is to go do it and get out of the upper room, not just gather in it all the time in order to receive (which if you remember me saying, also has its place.)

Please listen with an open heart. Remember, I'm more FOR these types of things than "against" them, but I just think what I share today is worth considering.

Happy Sonship | Carlos A. Rodriguez

This week Carlos Rodriguez was visiting our ministry, Oikos, here in Peru and I was able to twist his arm and sit down with me for a podcast interview/discussion. This is a real bonus for me as I got to do it in person instead of over the internet.

Carlos is one of the pastors of Catch the Fire - Raleigh, in North Carolina. We discussed the Brownsville Revival and the Toronto Blessing, and the similarities and differences both in those movements and in our personal lives, as we apparently are both the same age and attended those schools of ministry while the other did also.

We also discussed "happy sonship" and his blog, as well as his trip(s) to Peru

Writing for God’s Glory | Dr. Michael L. Brown

Today’s episode was a long time coming, as it had been on my mind to invite today's guest on the show for quite a while, but I never went for it until a few months ago. If you are a subscriber to the podcast or a long-time listener of this show, then you have heard me refer to him on many occasions, sometimes as a point of reference when talking about certain things like hyper-grace or revival.

Today's guest Dr. Michael L. Brown is host of the nationally syndicated talk radio show The Line of Fire, author of a bazillion books, such as Authentic Fire, Hyper-Grace, and the five volume series Answering Jewish Objections to Jesus, among many others.

He was also one of the leaders of the Brownsville Revival, which birthed the FIRE School of Ministry that several other guests of the podcast went to or graduated from or taught at. As of late, Dr. Brown is also a columnist for Charisma magazine and Town Hall.

In today’s episode I asked him:

  • How he got started in writing.
  • How he determines what he’s going to do with inspired content
  • What lifestyle habits does he have in his life so as to keep fostering the habit of writing.
  • His tools of choice for writing
  • Traditional publishing vs. self-publishing, since he has done both.
  • Why doesn’t he do any audiobooks (yet)
  • Does he still have to submit manuscripts, or do publishers come to him begging him to write a book?
  • The number one way to promote a book.
  • Building Your Platform & ethical self-promotion.
  • How many books he keeps on his computer at any given moment that eventually will become books.
  • And more...

We close out the rest of the episode after that sharing listener feedback in response to last week’s episode with Matthew Robert Payne on charging for personal prophecies through his website.

Charging for Personal Prophetic Words? | Matthew Robert Payne

This week I’m privileged to have on the show my mate from down under Matthew Robert Payne. We spent nearly two hours talking about writing books on the kingdom of God, but specifically the prophetic.

Early on we wound up opening a can of worms and discussing whether it’s ethical to pay someone for personal prophecy, or a better way of putting it: is it wrong to charge for prophetic ministry?

We spent a while talking about this before moving on to discussing honoring leaders and mixing prophecy with national elections, as well as some of Matthew’s angelic encounters.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

God's Feminist Movement | Interview with Amber Picota

Would you be shocked, offended or apathetic if I told you I haven’t had any female guests on the podcast in over 6 years? Yes, that’s right, somehow six years have gone by since the last time Fire On Your Head welcomed a female guest. Not because we’re sexist, but like as I explained in the introduction, none of the people I’ve invited on the podcast in recent years have gotten back to me.

We finally break that streak and welcome author of the forthcoming book, God’s Feminist Movement, Amber Picota to the show. We discussed a lot of different things, such as:

  • the pros and cons of repurposing blog content into a book,
  • the challenges I faced when I published my first Kindle book
  • how she scored a book contract with Destiny Image Publishers
  • how her time so far in the Welton Academy also led to her going through the Scripture with a new set of eyes to see things we’re oftentimes conditioned to accept without question.
  • God’s Feminist Movement and what it is. We’ve heard a lot of prophetic voices talk about how God is turning the hearts of the fathers to the hearts of the sons, but what about… the mothers?
  • Amber shares her powerful testimony
  • and a lot more...

Join us this week for an in-depth conversation.

Don't Settle For Mediocrity | David W. Edwards

This week Dave Edwards and I catch up and record it for your benefit. In a nutshell we  discuss vision. What are you dreaming about? Do you have vision for it? Do you just need a little push or a kick to “go for it” and get out of the upper room?

A phrase that came to me in our conversation was the question “Can you see it first? Or do you need to see someone else do it first and then follow the path they forged?"

We talked from there about pioneering versus settling, and going for the dreams and callings God’s given us versus waiting for someone to give you permission or “choose you”.

Revival & Discipleship | Larry Sparks

This week I’m privileged to have Larry Sparks on the show. I’ve been following Larry for a little while now and recently took the plunge and invited him to be on the show.

Larry Sparks is on a mission that can be captured in three words: Encounter, Activate, and Transform. His driving passion is to see people encounter the presence of the Holy Spirit, activate God's power in their everyday lives through supernatural discipleship, and transform their worlds by representing Jesus Christ and advancing His Kingdom.

As an author, speaker, and revivalist, Larry is committed to harnessing the power of media to equip the body of Christ for supernatural living. His ministry, Equip Culture, exists to provide tools and resources that empower Christians to discover their inheritance in Christ and live a life where anything is possible.

Supernatural discipleship is one of Larry's main areas of emphasis. He presently serves as Director of Curriculum Resources for Destiny Image Publishers where he creates media-based resources that equip believers to sustain supernatural lifestyles characterized by the pursuit of God's presence and demonstration of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, signs, wonders, and miracles.

Having ministered in university, church, and conference settings, Larry delivers a message of supernatural empowerment and spiritual passion. A repeat guest on CBN's Spiritual Gifts Webcast and host of the weekly Voice of Destiny radio broadcast, he is also a blogger, columnist and a regular contributor to Charisma Magazine and Charisma News.

So you can see why he’s a great fit for Fire On Your Head.

We started off discussing the balance and tension between being carriers of the Holy Spirit’s revival presence, but yet still needing to contend to manifest it. On the one hand it’s true that all has been done on the cross and we don’t “earn” anything from God. But at this point I ran my analogy by Larry that just like Israel in the wilderness receiving manna on a daily basis, they still had to go collect it. If you slept in you missed that day’s manna, but you still didn’t work to create the crop or sow manna seed and cause it to harvest. God did His part, we do ours.

As I reflect on the conversation and listened to it again while editing it, I was pleasantly surprised how flawlessly we segued into talking about the marriage of revival and discipleship in the second half of this show. Regular listeners are going to enjoy today’s show, no doubt about it.

We all need upper room experiences, but the goal is not to stay in the upper room and never go into the streets below with the power of God to a dying world around us.

Enjoy today’s episode!

The Called Out Ones: Rethinking the Unthinkable | Chad Kidd

Finally, an interview for the first time in like what, 5 months? Today’s guest goes by the name of Chad Kidd. Chad and I have a mutual friend through Stephen Crosby, and we’re both a part of a group on Facebook about ‘the dones’ which has been a theme lately on the show and will be for a little while longer.

There's the dones, and then there's the "called out ones."

I posted a message in the group looking to have a group Skype call or Google chat hangout, and Chad was the only one available so we converted the conversation into a podcast discussion which I think you’re going to enjoy. We also briefly discuss his book, Rethinking the Unthinkable: In the Light of Love which he co-wrote with his wife Ondrea documenting their reflections on exiting the institutional church and how God has been leading them ever since over the years that followed.

Topics we discussed:

When we discuss being done, what is it we’re done with? Done with institutional and relationship-less Christianity, and not done with a relationship with Jesus Christ.

We discuss a blog post "A Response to Christians Who Are Done with Church" by Carey Nieuwhof

We would never do ‘family’ the way we do church. We discuss a threshold most, if not all dones and “called out ones” reach which tips them past the line of how much they can take before they need to leave the Institutional Church in order to satisfy that longing.

Join us today as we bounce ideas off of each other regarding being a called out one.

Time stops for no one -- how are you spending it?

Where has all the time gone?

Sorry for the lack of updates in the last several months. We have been quite busy in ministry things down here in Peru, and with getting ready for the book launch, then we went to Canada to visit family over Christmas. On top of that moved into a new an unfinished apartment only 9 days before our flight!

Today's episode is from my time sharing a message at River Run Fellowship in Peterborough, Ontario this past Sunday before we returned to Peru.

I shared about some themes long-time listeners of the podcast are familiar with in terms of discipleship and only having one shot at this life.

Will you stand before Him on that day wishing you had done more with your time and your talents, or will you hang your head in shame wishing you had done more?

Enjoy today's message about how time stops for no one, therefore it's up to us to decide how we're going to spend it in light of eternity.

Blessings and fire on your head,

Talking Tech | Church Mag Podcast guest appearance

Gone are the days when missionaries left their homeland to only have the chance to communicate to their friends and family via sketchy phone service and snail mail.

The Internet allows instant—mobile even—access to just about anyone in the world.

It’s a whole new world.

Several months ago ChurchMag Staff Writer Chris Wilson had the opportunity to interview me about using tech on the mission field. In fact, if you listened to the episode of the Fire On Your Head podcast with him about what we both wish we knew before we started blogging, well this interview was actually recorded first. It's just now going live, but good things take time, right?

You’ll also hear about technology being used in other places in the world—other than the Western world.

Done with Church: Now What? | Dan Dailey

This week on the podcast I have a very interesting conversation with Dan Dailey. As usually happens in internet land, I came across a blog post he wrote, wrote a response to it, he found it, and we became social media friends and eventually had a podcast conversation.

To bring yourself up to speed, he wrote a blog post called Regarding the Done with Church Buzz.  A few months later when it was getting heavily shared on Facebook thanks to Wayne Jacobsen, I wrote my own Regarding the Done with Church Buzz in response to his.

Dan shares his background and how he wound up ‘leaving the institution’ and becoming a ‘done’. Practically born in a church pew, Dan comes from a long line of pastors and ministers on both sides of the family which takes us to about a year ago. By age 35, Dan doesn’t think he missed any two Sunday services in a row over a span of twenty years, and led worship and served as an elder, would preach in his fellowship on many occasions.

Going strong after the Lord, but no longer 'attending' and fellowship, how did he become one of the 35 million former church attenders who now identifies himself as a "done"? We explore his journey in today's episode.

Schizophrenic Eschatology

If you believed it would be 500 years before Jesus returned instead of that He may return any minute, would that affect the way you live your day-to-day life?

I know for many the answer would be no. But unfortunately I know many more believers for whom it would make a world of difference.

If we believe we’re in the last of the last days, and that Jesus will come in 5 years instead of say 500, we will live and act accordingly and “let it” get worse by our inaction and watching the sky awaiting Jesus’ return. Even people who believe in a post-tribulation rapture can still live with a mentality that everything has to get worse with the only difference from their pre-trib counterparts is that the Church will be here for that worsening. If it does all get worse, does that mean it’s acceptable to not do anything about the evil in the generation around us?

Unfortunately, it usually does… Give this episode a listen and be challenged.

Launching Missional Communities Where You Are | Mike Breen

This week I am privileged to have on the podcast one of the men who's heavily influenced my ministry here in Peru. I'm talking about Mike Breen, author and phrase coiner. In the first part of our chat I ask Mike where he came up with the idea for Lifeshapes.

In the second half of the conversation I ask Mike where Missional Communities came from. Mike shares some stories of how this took shape in the late 1980s and early 90s and what obvious lessons emerged from his experiences. Towards the end of this week's episode he tells us of the "Happy hour" ministry he's launched in his new neighborhood.

Family on Mission | Mark Burgess

This week I am privileged to have Mark Burgess back on the podcast for the first time in almost three years exactly to the month. We discuss family on mission and give some descriptions of experiences, good and bad, that we’ve had creating a discipleship culture here in Chorrillos, Peru. It’s not a matter of prioritizing family or the mission, but combining them and being a family, whether biological or extended, who are on a mission together. We believe this is the bedrock for seeing disciples made, and a movement expand as we’re finally starting to see down here in our sphere of influence.

In this show we discuss:

  • Why your pastor can’t disciple you
  • Why discipleship is HARD work and the reason many would rather not bother with it, and instead resort to collecting people to be passive and sit in the pew week after week
  • The danger of allowing words like “organic”, “missional”, and “discipleship” to be buzzwords without any practical life application
  • Why we need to walk the walk and not just talk the talk of the Kingdom of God and the making of disciples
  • Practical ways we can do family on mission in our own contexts and cultures

Let's Talk Publishing (Part 1 of 2) | Praying Medic

A few weeks ago I was privileged to be on The Praying Medic Podcast. Over the previous weekend PM and I had a three hour recorded Skype conversation the heels of having just recently recorded a lengthy episode of my own podcast with Chris Wilson on blogging and writing.

Join us in a passionate discussion about publishing books. Whether you’re a reader, an author or someone who aspires to publish books, this discussion is sure to have something of interest to you.

We begin with an update on what our friends have been doing. You'll hear names come up like Jesse Birkey and Jeremy Mangerchine, both of whom are people I've had on the show at least once, and who I would not have ever met if not for Praying Medic connecting us in some way.

The lesson to be learned? The power of connecting with like-minded people in your area of interest or ministry.

Then we discuss recent book projects, including Praying Medic's next book on how the Kingdom of God responds to economic crisis. We then shift gears and share our thoughts and experiences with writing books and how each of us wrote our first one.

We wrap things up with a discussion about the importance of editing.

There’s much more ground that we cover in part 2 next week.

Entering Into God's Presence Without Even Singing Songs | With Dr. Stephen R. Crosby

This week we have returning guest Stephen Crosby on the show mostly to discuss themes in his book, Praise, Worship, and the Presence of God: A Better Way to Worship — A New Covenant Perspective

Here are some bullet points to summarize each section of our conversation:

6:00 - The Worship leader — Access to God through Music?

Do they really take us into and out of the presence of God? Nope. No such thing exists. No brokers of His presence. Jesus has done it. We are in God’s presence because of what Jesus did on the cross, and not because of anything the worship leader does. The manifest presence of God is like oxygen in your lungs — it’s something you breathe.

16:05 - The recent history of contemporary worship music and practices ("Restoration of David’s Tent")

Have you ever wondered or been asked WHY we do things the way we do in our charismatic services when it comes to the music before the preaching? Chances are you have little idea and neither will the person you ask. We just do it. In 1948 a move of God is where it all changed. Prior to that, hymns were typical. Out of this movement came the “restoration of David’s tent” which spread a misinterpretaiton of Amos 9:11-15 through a lot of the church and evolved during the charismatic movement of the 60s and third wave of the 80s. We discuss the need to understand what we are doing and what our theology behind it is.

26:56 - No to apostles and prophets, but yes to a modern paid position that has no NT substantiation?

You can find more churches who will fight and split over modern-day apostles and prophets despite their repeated mention in the New Testament, but yet you can’t find the modern professional musician worship leader in the NT, yet it seems nobody questions that. Why on earth is that?

If we can have the presence of God without music, then we have to ask ourselves why are we bothering and what are we doing? On the other hand, just because we can’t find something in the New Testament doesn’t mean it’s forbidden or morally wrong, however, we should be carefully to not then elevate these things to a level of status and requirement.

43:00 — Swapping one high for another: when worshipping and sensing the anointing becomes addictive

We talk about how the look and feel of a lot of the “cutting edge” worship can take on a rock concert appearance and if you muted the volume you wouldn’t know the difference. The same way the Jews of Jesus’ day had built so much tradition on what was once originally pure law code, in a sense we’ve done the same thing with various traditions related to worshipping through music.

57:00 There are no second generation burning bushes

Dr Crosby explains how one of the ways we find ourselves in situations or methods and traditions is when one generation experiences God in a certain way, and when discipling the next one they are taught the “how tos” of the first generation’s experience, but without experiencing that same burning bush for themselves. One of two things happens:

  1. We fake it because we want to experience it so bad, or
  2. We go into despair because we not experiencing it like the previous generation did.

Likewise, David’s life is not our example. He merely is a type and shadow who pointed the way to the Messiah who came. The One greater than David has come, and He has united Himself in Spirit with us in the inner most being. If you’re going to create a template for worship and “pressing in” to His presence, do it based on Christ who is IN you and not old covenant modalities.

Deep down in our own souls, we struggle with needing to earn and be rewarded, rather than just accepting what’s been given and freely poured out on the cross at Calvary. Charismatics and Pentecostals who are thrill-addicted struggle to believe it can all really be that simple.

We close out the last half hour or so of the discussion sharing stories and experiences, for better or worse.

Are you talking yourself out of your Promised Land?

There's a video that's been making the rounds on social media lately of Shia Labeouf yelling various iterations of "just do it", followed by the customary parody videos the internet is making. This episode of the podcast is not meant to join in on the meme, but in a similar way, what's holding you back? JUST DO IT!

We talk about how the biggest reason a whole generation of Israel that left Egypt failed to enter the Promised Land, because they basically talked themselves out of it.

Ten people were able to ruin it for over 2 million people. A whole generation of Israel that missed their purpose, and made God wait for the next one to be raised up.

Many believers already know there are various levels on which Israel rebelled against the Lord, and various specifics could be pointed to in the wilderness narratives as the cause of their spending 40 years there instead of inheriting their promised land immediately after leaving Egypt. However, it is interesting to note how seriously this incident affected their destiny.

It is worth taking serious consideration for our own lives since 1 Cor 10:6 says these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire or crave evil as they did.

Give this a listen and ask yourself: who are you listening to? Whose opinion matters so much to you that, even though they mean well, you are listening to them instead of God and pursuing whatever He has put on your heart to pursue?

What I Wish I'd Known When I Started Blogging | Interview with Chris Wilson

This week I combined a few of my favorite things, and on this episode of the podcast we talk about blogging and writing with Chris Wilson, one of the authors of the ChurchMag blog.

After getting to know more about the Brit and how he got into political blogging before moving to Ukraine, then eventually Poland, we discuss:

  • Blogger versus WordPress
  • Niche versus worldview blogging
  • Sharing your story and establishing yourself as an authority in your field
  • Clickbait tactics and how NOT to come up with good titles for your articles or blog posts
  • Spamming your social media followers — an innocent (but annoying!) newbie mistake
  • How long should a blog post be?
  • How to get your first thousand site visitors
  • What I have noticed has been working in the last few months to see a huge boost in traffic to my blog

Keep Your Fire Burning

In today's episode of the show, I continue sharing some thoughts, reflections and revelations on the fire of God and getting closer to the purging purifying fire of His presence.

What type of fire are you?

  • Is your fire invisible, yet giving off an odor?
  • Are you properly adding fuel to your fire, and spending time alone in intimate fellowship with the Father?
  • Are you fueling your life with the Word of God and the oil of His presence?
  • Are you allowing fresh winds of the Holy Spirit to fan those flames?
  • Or are you dabbling with sin in your life so as to remove the oxygen His fire needs?

Let me encourage you to stir up the flames in yourself and one another that we may burn fully aflame for the Lord Jesus Christ! In order to do that, you need to preserve your own fire and keep it burning at all times.

This episode is not for ear tickling, so if you don't want to be challenged, you might as well just delete this episode from your smartphone or podcast app!

The God Who Answers By Fire

The first time the Lord revealed Himself to Moses was in a burning bush. He could have done His appearing in any form He wanted to, but chose this method -- a fire.

Likewise, when the Lord chose to come down and meet the people of Israel for the first time after departing from Egypt, he showed up as thunder, lightning and a thick cloud with a very loud trumpet blast. All of the few million men and women who heard it trembled (see Exodus 19:16-24).

The mountain itself did not speak, but the voice in the midst of the fire did.

It is interesting that at significant times when God showed Himself to people, He showed up in the appearance of fire. To Moses in the bush, to the people of Israel on Mount Sinai as a mountain of fire, and the believers in the upper room in Acts 2 tongues of fire on their heads.

Our God is a consuming fire (Heb 12:29, Deut 4:24). It's one of His many characteristics.

We continue reflecting on the consuming fire of God's presence in this week's episode.

"Haves and have nots" Christianity

This week I recorded a spontaneous time of sharing my heart with you guys. Since the internet is all abuzz with the fact Creflo Dollar asked the body of Christ to help him buy a $65 million private jet for his ministry, I have mixed reaction.

Since this was the type of thing that would take me way too long to sit down and write, and I don't have the time, I figured a podcast would be the best way to do that.

So why does this missionary in a third world country think people need to leave Creflo alone? Or at least examine ourselves as to why we're irked about his request?

Listen and find out.

The Mr Miyagi School of Supernatural Rest | Jeremy Mangerchine

This week we had Jeremy Mangerchine back on the podcast, and we discussed his newest book, The Quitter’s Manual: Finding Rest in a World Gone Busy. The last time we had Jeremy on the podcast we discussed hearing the voice of God and tapping into the member of the Trinity who lives within us.

This week we go further and talk about "tapping into rest", and having the peace that surpasses understanding and tapping into the source of divine power (Jesus Christ).

It's all about discovering rest and abidine in the vine.

What Do You Mean by "Revival Fire?"

This week I took advantage of an opening when a scheduled interview had to cancel at the last minute, but I think it's a God thing because I've been wanting to share on the podcast these thoughts on the fire of God and spreading a revival all over the earth.

Either repentance will pave the way for revival, or revival will bring to the surface that sin which may be hidden from others’ sight. One cannot see revival without a pure heart, and in the midst of the fire, the dross will come to the surface.

Are you ready?

Does a New Testament prophet need to be 100% correct? | Interview with NorthWest Prophetic

This week we have a cross-generational chat with our friend who goes by the name Nor'west or Northwest Prophetic on social media.

On this week's show you’ll enjoy learning about a man who’s pastored several times in the past and has an interesting calling and perspective on the Northwest region of the United States.

Topics covered today:

  • Can we see similarities between the “organic movement” during the 70s and the modern day millennials who are disinterested in “institutional” church?
  • Do prophecies have multiple fulfillments, like “repeats”?
  • How do we process it when credible well-known prophetic leaders have conflicting prophetic words? Is one person right and the other wrong? Or are both hearing pieces of a puzzle that compliment the other’s?
  • Does the Bible truly say anywhere that a real prophet must have a 100% track record?

Fifty Shades of Grey Matter

This week Dave Edwards joins us again, and we began our conversation with absolutely nothing planned, and it turned out to be a longer discussion than normal. Whether that's a good thing or not, we'll let you be the judge.

We begin with asking Dave about what’s new with him, and expectation for 2015. He tells us the key to revival is not “waiting for a surprise”, but positioning ourselves to be ready and “going for it”.

Steve gave Dave four different topics to discuss, and the first one he picked was the 50 Shades of Grey phenomenon. We camped here for the next 30 minutes, using it as a springboard to discuss personal holiness and whether Christians need to be careful of what we watch.

Then we transitioned into discussing the 40th anniversary of Saturday Night Live for a little bit and the pattern/template this entertainment institution has given us for multiple generations, and then discussed the Middle East conflict surrounding ISIS with relation to what role is the Church meant to play, and are we doing it?

If Any Man Defile The Temple of God

"According to the grace of God, given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw — each man’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.”  1 Corinthians 3:10-15

We continue today with some thoughts on building the temple of God and His kingdom in the earth. If you’re new to the podcast, we started talking about this a number of episodes ago in one titled “Come Up Out of Babylon”, where I laid out a challenge and exhortation based on the text in Haggai about how very few people returned from Babylonian captivity to rebuild Jerusalem, specifically the temple. I feel this has a prophetic representation about how so few people want to give up their own lives so as to build what God is building in the earth.

But in today's show we talk specifically about the temple, looking at the things Paul says in the New Testament, using a couple of anchor texts. The first one I went through pretty significantly in a chapter of my book The Imperishable Seed of Christ (which is FREE in all major ebook platforms), in the chapter where we talked about the seed grows to become an imperishable Kingdom due to the materials used to construct it.

Are you building use cheap material or costly ones? Are you afraid of man or do you fear the Lord? Are you building something that will survive the "testing with fire"?

If not, you won't enjoy today's challenge.

Supernatural Community

I've noticed oftentimes there's two camps of people in the church, at least when it comes to the goal of "getting back to New Testament Christianity". There's the one that focuses on the supernatural aspect of how the early church flowed in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, healed the sick, performed miracles, signs and wonders and like in the book of Acts, thousands of people were added to the Kingdom of God.

But often times those who focus on the early part of Acts 2, neglect the end of the chapter, which says,

And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. (Acts 2:42-47, ESV)

Then there's the camp that focuses on having "community", but practically balk at the idea of the supernatural and have little interest in flowing in the gifts of the Holy Spirit like earlier in that same chapter.

Today we're going to start talking about combining the two and how we need a supernatural community amongst believers if we're to see results like the early church did in terms of a disciple-making movement in our day.

Why You WANT To Be Left Behind | Interview with James-Michael Smith

This week we finally have James-Michael Smith on the podcast. James is the author of the blog Disciple Dojo and the book, You WANT To Be Left Behind: Essays On The Bible and Popular End Times Teachings, which is the specific reason I invited him on the show.

We had fun, and we covered:

  • Matthew 24 and whether a third temple needs to be built or not in order to fulfill Bible prophecy.
  • What are the strengthes and weaknesses of the different end times views
  • And most importantly, why you WANT to be left behind and how those "taken" in the Bible were never raptured or spared terror.

I thoroughly enjoyed today's discussion and it's my prayer you will too.

Information, Imitation and Innovation

This week I continue with my flow of thoughts from last week concerning making disciples. We hold discipleship as one of our main core values in our ministry Oikos, and seek to reproduce reproducers. Which is why we have a balance of informal and formal discipling. We spend time hanging out and goofing around with our disciples and those we’re mentoring through things like movies, games, and eating meals together.

Likewise there’s also formal stuff like teaching and Bible study, one on one times of mentoring, and so forth.

To properly disciple, I don’t believe you have one without the other. For example, pastoring a large mega church can result in you having 5000 tithing members who attend your event every Sunday morning but that does not mean they’re your disciples.

They’re attendees. So let's unpack the image inside the seed of the Word of God and how discipleship goes from just passing on information, to imitation and innovation.

Why I Harp on Discipleship

There’s really ONE specific thing Jesus commanded us to do: MAKE DISCIPLES of the Nations. Yet, depending on who you talk to, this is viewed as optional, or something only special people like pastors or missionaries do.

Today I share from my heart a personal 'kairos' moment that changed everything for me: my ministry focus, how I use my time on a weekly basis, who and what I focus my energy towards.

I personally don't want to wait until I've gone a few decades in life and say "you know, I wish I did this instead". I feel like I'm on the cusp of being able to make that my focus and learning from those who've gone before me, and take heed as to what they say is the most important thing to be doing with the short life we have to make an impact for the Kingdom of God. Whether that's on the mission field in Peru, closed places in Asia, or as a millennial in the workforce in North America.

Take the initiative and make disciples of those whom God has put in your path right now in your life. Not much else will last.

The Manifest Presence of God is Birthed in Intimacy | Interview with Brian Guerin

This week we finally release an interview I've been sitting on for a couple of months with Brian Guerin, itinerant minister with Bridal Glory International, and author of the new book God of Wonders: Experiencing God's Voice Through Signs, Wonders, and Miracles

This episode flows nicely with what we've been talking about concerning the collective Bride of Christ and we get back to "the upper room" again.

We started off today with learning a little bit about Brian and his testimony, and specifically his experiences cultivating an intimacy with God and experiencing signs and wonders on a regular basis and we discuss God's supernatural provision.

Make sure you stick around for the prophetic word Brian has for his nation toward the end of the show.

The Holy Spirit Flows Through Intimacy & Community

When we look at family on mission, we see we are meant to function as an extended family on a mission together, to seek and save that which is lost. When the Holy Spirit came down on the day of Pentecost, the believers were in one accord praying daily and apparently sharing meals together. They were in the upper someone's home. Not in the religious temple!

What if the emphasis is not and was not that God showed up in power that day to inaugurate his ekklesia (church, extended family) because they were praying, but because they were living and functioning together as an extended family, together in purpose and singleness of vision, and prayer was a natural fruit of that?

After looking at the Day of Pentecost through a different lens than you might have viewed it through before, we then segue into discipleship through something found in Song of Solomon 1:16-17:

"Behold, you are beautiful, my beloved, truly delightful. Our couch is green; the beams of our house are cedar; our rafters are pine."

When we are intimate with God in the secret place, we produce fruit, and in turn reproduce and multiply. When we abide in Him, out of necessity we will be helping Him build HIS house and not our own.

Left Behind, Revival, and Organic Church

This week we finally have Dave Edwards back on the podcast and talk about some of the latest going on in theological internet land.

We recorded this episode a few weeks ago and the Left Behind reboot had just tanked at the box office, so naturally we get talking about it a bit and how much our eschatology shapes our worldview. Are our assumptions of end times correct?

Then we segue into first century church life and Dave's thoughts on organic church and recent revelations on revival.

Come up out of Babylon!

This week I share directly from my heart something I feel the Lord had me put into this podcast. It's a challenge and hopefully an encouragement, asking you if you're obeying God's call on your life, or avoiding the conviction of the Holy Spirit in order to do your own thing. But not until after I share an exciting testimony that has happened in the last few weeks in Peru.

Fathering and Parenting a Holy Generation | Interview with Bert Farias

Today I was privileged to have an interview with a friend and former teacher of mine in my days at FIRE School of Ministry named Bert Farias. He and his son Daniel recently co-wrote a book called My Son, My Son: Fathering and Training a Holy Generation

Did you know over 95% of prison inmates never had any meaningful relationship with their fathers? If you've been in Christian circles for very long, you've probably already heard that this generation is a fatherless generation. Talking to Brother Bert and hearing his insights further underscored the importance of godly parenting, starting at a young age.

As the old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and Brother Bert shares a lot of powerful insights, especially geared at new parents such as myself. When you listen to today's show, you'll be listening to an older wiser experienced father share personally with a newbie and publicly with today's audience.

We also get Bert's thoughts on the controversial and divisive topic of spanking. Is it Biblical or is it abusive?

Missional Community and Discipleship in Peru

Recently I was approached by Bryan Entzminger about being a guest on his podcast, Engaging Missions. As we talked, he let me share some exciting things about how mine and Lili’s ministry has shifted over time on the mission field, and some of the amazing things God has been doing in the past few months. I think you’ll be encouraged and inspired as you listen.

Apparently Bryan first found me through the Fire On Your Head podcast and really enjoyed it. He says he loved hearing how God was using our ministry to bring people to know Christ and to advance the Kingdom. His words also reinforce for me why, besides just interviewing other authors, it’s a good idea to share testimonies and stuff that’s going on in our life and ministry here in Peru.

Challenge, Revelation, and Current Ministry

Like everybody, I’ve had a number false starts and failures. These are the things that missionaries don’t often share when they’re visiting churches and seeking support. They don’t always want to talk about the disciple who walked away from Christ or the ministry outreach that they had to shut down because it wasn’t bearing fruit. In my journey, it took nearly five years for me get to where I THOUGHT I was headed when I started out – involved in a ministry school, teaching the Word and making disciples. I may not have articulated it or had the same vision coming here in 2009 as I do now looking forward, but along the way there have been a number of things that have changed and some false starts that I share in this interview. In fact, it’s been just recently that we’ve started to see significant fruit in Chorrillos, Peru as I’ve been blogging about.

Check out Engaging Missions if you’d like to hear more discussions with the various missionaries Bryan has interviewed.

Church as Community + Hub for Disciple multiplication | Interview with Michael Dow

This week I was privileged to finally have Michael Dow on the show. He has spent his entire saved life in a few different types of ministires, one of which was a missional community called King's People in Charlotte, N.C. He now is apprenticing with Daniel Kolenda, of Christ For All Nations, doing massive crusade evangelism.

We discuss Michael's thoughts regarding both ends of the spectrum when it comes to small tight knit community and seeing hundreds of thousands of people accept Christ in single meetings.

Make sure to get a copy of Michael's book, Free Indeed: Free To Live a Life of Obedience on Amazon or iTunes.

Disciple Multiplication & "Slow burn Revival"

First, I share some updates about new editions in the Kingdom of God since having recorded today's show, and developments since last week's episode.

Then we get down to business and I continue some of my thoughts from last week about making disciples and seeing the Kingdom of God multiply in our local context here in Peru.

On top of the testimonies, I provide a framework for how we could see revival take place if each one of us were leading one person to Christ each year and discipling them, teaching them to do the same.

How Should We Respond to World Vision? | Interview with Zack Hunt

This week we are privileged to have on the podcast Zack Hunt, author of the popular blog, The American Jesus.

We discuss the origins and inspiration of The American Jesus, and how a blogger can walk the fine line of being poignant and being humorous. We also discuss the polarization that faith-based movies are causing in the Christian subculture and what should our reaction be to it.

Then in the final half of the show we discuss the mess surrounding what has happened with World Vision and its stance on same-sex marriage and reversing course after having 10,000 child sponsorships dropped when Christians cancelled their sponsorships after hearing of this news.

It's a sticky situation, with no clear winners but Zack shares his insights after having participated in a conference call with the president of World Vision.

Is It Necessary For Christians to Attend Church Meetings? | Interview with Dr. Stephen Crosby

This week we have Dr. Stephen Crosby back on the podcast to discuss loving our neighbors on a practical level. We've touched on this in past discussions, but spend a whole hour talking about a few benefits and challenges to meeting in house churches as opposed to 'institutional' church. We discuss what the house church movement gets wrong and what they get right.

We get talking about why some people who are not in cultures where their faith is persecuted would resort to house churches instead of meeting in "large buildings.

We also talk about the all-important role that love has in our impact we can have on our neighbors and culture around us.

What Should Christians Think About House Churches?

This weekend I got to be on Moody Radio’s Up For Debate program with Judy Roys. Up For Debate describes itself as “a show that seeks to equip believers to discern these debatable matters by engaging biblically with people holding diverse opinions. Each week, host Julie Roys invites two guests onto the one-hour program to defend opposing views. She also encourages listeners to call in and add their comments and questions.”

I had been contacted by the show’s producer a few weeks ago regarding sharing the cons of house churches, after she read my blog post 5 Things The House Church Movement is Getting Wrong (which itself was a companion piece to the 5 Things The House Church Movement is Getting Right).

The written summary for this week's episode states:

"Ten years ago, fewer than two-thousand house churches existed in the United States. But now, according to Barna Research Group, there are about 30-thousand house churches in America! This Saturday on Up for Debate, Julie Roys explores the pros and cons of this burgeoning movement. Should Christians support and join house churches – or should they be wary of them? Listen and join the discussion this Saturday at 8 a.m. on Up for Debate!"

I was paired with Mark Willis, who along with his wife helped establish the Underground Church Network, a decentralized organic church network in and around Chicago. In the second half we were joined with Dr Kevin Zuber, who is a professor at the Moody Bible Institute."

I’m really grateful for the opportunity the folks at Up For Debate gave me by inviting me to participate in what turned to be more of a discussion than a debate.

Is Taking Medicine a Sign of Unbelief? | Praying Medic

This week we continue our discussion with Praying Medic, author of Divine Healing Made Simple for our second of two episodes.

This week we discuss his opinion of when different healing evangelists have been arrested for "practicing medicine without a license". What exactly does that mean, and are we inadvertently doing that ourselves when we minister divine healing to the sick or hurting?

Should Christians give anybody medical advice?

If a person who believes in divine healing or faith healing takes medication, is that a lack of faith and not "practicing what they preach" or is it a matter of being responsible?

Is there truly a relationship between our unforgiveness and not being healed?

These are the things we discuss this week while concluding our two-part discussion.

Why Don't Some People Get Healed? | Praying Medic

This week we interview Praying Medic, the author of Divine Healing Made Simple for our first of two episodes.  We start of chatting about blogging, and discuss how we met online which led to our guest discussing what inspired him to write his book and how long the process took him.

Why are some people not healed, and why do others who are genuinely healed sometimes lose their healing later? I think you will really appreciate Praying Medic's approach to this delicate subject.

Also we discuss the importance of testifying of what God has done in our lives.

What's So Hyper About Grace? | Interview with D.R. Silva

This week I was privileged to have on the podcast Dan Silva, a fellow blogger and author of the fairly new book, It's All About Jesus: What They Never Told You in Church

I enjoyed talking to Dan. I've been following his site for a few years, along with his Facebook page and have enjoyed the posts and articles he's written. I have even more respect for him after hearing more about his journey from Sunday churchianity, to burn out, to a renewed passion for God and the message of his love.

Check out this week's episode and hear us discuss whether the message of grace truly is a license to sin as some claim 'grace teachers' are proclaiming. We also discuss a recent article our regular guest Stephen Crosby wrote that's been getting some buzz on social media.

Experiencing God's Presence | Interview with Eric Gilmour

There is no Christianity without experiencing God. Yet so many people admit that they have a difficult time experiencing God's presence or hearing God's voice. Why is this and how can we fix that in our own lives?

This week we have Eric William Gilmour on the podcast and he passionately shares about cultivating a union with Christ and walking in such an intimacy with Him. We discuss Eric's ministry, Sonship International, as well as his books Burn: Melting Into the Image of Jesus, and Union: The Thirsting Soul Satisfied in God in which Eric tells us is an expansion of one of the concepts from Burn.

There's no pre-nuptual agreement in Christ, both the Bride and Groom share the same assets, no matter who brought the most in to the union. We are made what we are in Christ because of everything Jesus made us. Likewise, there is no Christianity without experiencing God, as Eric relates that the Bible is not meant to merely be a recipe book, but a source of food.

We need to hear God's voice and not just read His book. No relationship works without communication; how can ministers of the Gospel affect other peoples' lives if they don't even believe you can hear God's voice and hear from Him personally?

In this episode we discuss the importance of experientially walking in the Spirit.

Dreams, Visions and Memory Stones

This week Dave Edwards and Steve Bremner catch up over skype and share some testimonies on the power of the Holy Spirit. Then, rather quickly we get around to discussing dream interpretation and "memory stones" and how easily the Holy Spirit wants to show us things and use us to minister to the world around us.

We also give a brief Old Testament history lesson about why it was so devastating when the enemies of Israel destroyed the temple of the Lord.

Do You have a Thorn in the Flesh? | Interview with Art Thomas

This week we interview Art Thomas, missionary evangelist and author of the new book Spiritual Tweezers: Removing Paul's "Thorn in the Flesh" and Other False Objections to God's Will for Healing. He is also co-director of a new movie called Paid in Full: Physical Healing documentary.

So, as you guessed it, we talked about divine healing, one of our favourite subjects on this podcast, but we focused more on discussing Paul's Thorn in the Flesh.

Questions we discussed:

Why isn't everybody healed?

What about Timothy’s frequent stomach problems?

What was Paul's Thorn in the Flesh?

Why does it take a long time for some people to receive healing?

Plus Art shares some personal testimonies and struggles.

Is Healing Always God's Will? | Interview with Josh Greeson

Join me, Steve Bremner as I interview fellow healing author Joshua Greeson, author of God's Will Is Always Healing: Crushing Theological Barriers To Healing

The two of us discuss what motivated us to write our books, including the 20 year journey that resulted in Josh's book.

Here's a list of questions I asked him and we discussed:

  • Why can we be so certain God's will is to heal, when we may have lost loved ones to cancer or diseases when they were believing for a breakthrough?
  • Is faith always necessary to see a healing? Or is it automatic?
  • How do we minister healing to the sick?
  • Is it necessary to ask someone their permission before laying hands on them or praying for them in faith? Does the "healee" need to want to be healed?
  • Do we need to wait for a leading from the Holy Spirit?
  • Does God truly receive glory the more we suffer for Him in sickness and diseases?
  • What is the point of changing our mind about something such as healing? OK, so we decided to change our beliefs about divine healing and God's will, so then what?
  • Do you have to grow in your Christian walk before God can use you to heal the sick?
  • How does Matthew 7:21-23 apply to healing and our character in the midst of working miracles?
  • When Jesus told us we'd do greater miracles in his name, was that just figurative?

I also asked Josh what he tells people who do believe in healing or who loved his book, but yet they are still sick, in pain and otherwise, unhealed. What's the deal with that?

Money & The Church: A Better Way To Live & Give | Dr. Stephen R. Crosby

Join Steve Bremner this week as he discusses the taboo subject of money in the church with Dr Stephen R. Crosby. Dr Crosby recently published a book called "Money & The Church", and like usual, we get down to business killing some sacred cows.

But, lest you think this is just going to be a rant against practices that we think are bad and unbiblical in the Body of Christ regarding how money is acquired and used, we also encourage a different approach. One that is the source of life. We spend some time dismissing lies that many Christians have about money, but also how God has laid out "living and giving" in the Bible.

The 100th Episode of the Show!

We finally made it to episode 100! It's been an interesting 6 year ride. Dave Edwards and Steve Bremner talk about the best (and worst) of the podcast over the years and discuss the direction we feel the Lord taking us in the next 100 episodes of the podcast.

This week we don't cover a lot of the prophetic or theology, but instead answer important questions like:

What makes a good episode of Fire On Your Head?

What really happened between Steve Bremner and his original co-host Dan Slavin? We share the non-sensational and uneventful behind-the-scenes story.

If you're a blogger, author, celebrity of some kidn and intend on being a guest on a future episode of the podcast, what do you need to know and do to be prepared?

Does Steve get paid or make any money producing this podcast?

Give us a listen and get stirred up with some of what the Lord has been doing in our lives.

Fascinated By God's Beauty

This week we finally have back on the podcast authors Dr Stephen Crosby and SJ HIll, and talk about being agents of beautification for the kingdom of God.

We discuss how to be fascinated by God's beauty, and understand how He feels about us as an antidote to a boring spiritual life.  We also answer questions like how do we encourage ourself in the Lord?

You won't want to miss this discussion as it is unlike the previous discussions the three of us have had.

Micro & Macro Revelation

Join Dave Edwards and Steve Bremner as we attempt to have a discussion on the power of purity, but wind up getting sidetracked by the Holy Spirit and wind up talking about something else instead.  You know those podcast discussions between the two of us where we wind up having had a totally thought provoking and edifying spontaneous discussion?  Yeah, one of those.

If I could sum it up, I'd say we talked about "micro" and "macro" revelation.   That's to say, how God is intimately and deeply involved in both the minute and small detail of our lives and creation, as well as the big obvious running of the universe.

Another one of my favorite podcasts we've done in recent memory

Gold Dust & Angel Feathers | With Stephen Best

Welcome back to the podcast.  Sorry for the delay, but hey, at least we've now got a new theme song thanks to Jose Aljovin. It only took me nearly 100 episodes and over 5 years to get around to it, but hey, better late than never, right?

This week we have on the podcast my pastor Stephen Best returning for another discussion.  This time, he let me just ask him questions about his thoughts on some of the stuff that goes on in some charismatic circles.  We talk about gold dust, angel feathers, 100-fold return offerings, and personal prophecy.

Join us for a light-hearted but sober discussion.

Do You Put The Cart Before The Horse?

Join us as Steve Bremner and Dave Edwards chat it up.  We begin sharing a bit of a personal testimony from Steve, who is a missionary to Peru,  concerning God's faithfulness and provision while currently in Canada, as well as how God's plans are not always the same as our plans.  You will be encouraged.

Then we talk and reminisce about the journey of the podcast over the last 5 years as well as the Fire Press site over the last four and how Dave's released his book The Call For Revivalists, as the fruit of many of his writings on the site.

Afterward the discussion turns into some thoughts on how we can never be good enough to come to God and the process of repentance always begins with Him, not us.  Is "vicarious repentance" Biblical?  Can we really repent on behalf of other people?

Join us and be encouraged, challenged, and hopefully changed.

What Is Spiritual Fathering? | Discussion with Dr. Stephen R. Crosby

This week we're privileged to have back Dr Stephen Crosby on the show to talk some more about subjects he's passionate about. This week: spiritual fathering.  What is a father/son relationship in the Bible?  Is your pastor your spiritual father?  Is a pastor or apostolic leader in the Body of Christ a father to those who attend his or her church simply by virtue of their title or accomplishments for the kingdom of God?

What does mentoring and discipling look like in father son relationships, at least from a New Testament perspective?  You probably already know the answer to that one without having to listen to the show, but, we still had a great time talking about these things and think you'll enjoy it.  Join us as we try hammering some of these things out!

Productive or Just Busy?

This week we invite back Mark Burgess and Shaun Wissmann, both missionaries who are a part of missional community in Chorrillos, Peru. This week we talk about abiding and resting in Him.  Why is it so hard for so many of us to stop, sit back and take moments to simply abide?  Why do many of us feel the constant drive and need to be busy doing something, anything, for the Kingdom of God?

The New Jezebel | Discussion with S.J. Hill & Dr. Stephen R. Crosby

Join us this week as we discuss another insidious doctrine that's ready for a sacred cow barbecue.

This week Stephen Crosby, S.J. Hill and Steve Bremner chat it up again, and this time cover 'the new Jezebel'--which is nothing more than a newly packaged old lie, which basically discourages anybody from asking questions or challenging things that are said or done. It's a subtle form of manipulation that some leaders use in order to insulate themselves from being challenged. It's a form of manipulation, plain and simple.

We discuss how this works, and spend the second half of the conversation discussing practical ways we can change this in our own personal lives and in our fellowship with one another.

Give it a listen as it's definitely the most insightful conversation the three of us have had together on the podcast so far.

Revive What? | Discussion with S.J. Hill & Dr. Stephen R. Crosby

This week we ask the question "revive what?".  What is revival and what is being revived?  We cut through the buzz words and discuss what this is and what it looks like in the Scriptures. We get into asking these questions from the get go and dive into 'outpouring' versus discipleship.

If a real outpouring happened, would we be ready?  Would we even really want it?  What if God actually answered our romanticized prayers for a revival?  Would we be ready for it?

Join us this week as Steve Bremner has a sacred cow barbecue with a couple of insightful authors:  SJ Hill, international speaker and author of Enjoying God and previous recurring guest on the podcast, along with Dr Stephen R. Crosby, author of Revising Revival.

What is a Missional Community?

Join us this week for our podcast discussion with Mark Burgess, and Shaun Wissmann, both missionaries and serving in missional community in Chorrillos, Peru.

We shoot the breeze and discuss the differences between missional community and house churches. Is it just an alternative to “big churches?”  What is a community on mission together?  When the writer of Hebrews talks about not forsaking gathering together, is this referring to attending a weekly service, or something more profoundly missed in our modern context?

Mark and Shaun also brought up some very interesting points in this discussion, about how there is no ‘magic silver bullet‘ to community, but it takes lots of time and hard work.  Are you willing to put in the commitment and sacrifice?  In launching missional communities, or in planting house churches, by and large, are we going to the pattern of Scripture for our foundation, or looking at the culture around us and mixing it in with our desires and preferences for what an MC is supposed to look like?

Accountability and Spiritual Covering–-Are They Biblical? | Discussion with S.J. Hill & Dr. Stephen R. Crosby

Have you ever been told you’re in rebellion if you don’t obey your leaders?

Have you ever been taught spiritual authority, that emphasized complicity with leaders for complicity’s sake alone because, “they’re above you?”

Or, have you ever been told you need to be “under a spiritual covering” or curses from God will fall on you?

If so, then have we got quite a discussion for you today.

Join us this week as Steve Bremner has a sacred cow barbecue with a couple of insightful authors:

SJ Hill, international speaker and author of Enjoying God and previous recurring guest on the podcast, along with Dr Stephen R. Crosby, author of Authority, Accountability and the Apostolic Movement.

We tackle this stuff today:

Do we base our idea of accountability on the Bible, or businesses or even the military?

Is accountability enforced or lived out by signing documents?

Does the Bible really teach pastors or leaders are superior in any way to the rest of the Body of Christ?

What Does “Church Discipline” Look Like?

We’re finally back for our first podcast together in several months.  Join Dave Edwards and Steve Bremner as they discuss Matthew 18, and what Scripture says regarding how to deal with a fellow brother and excommunication.

Why is the Church viewed as those who shoot their wounded rather than helping restore one another who are caught in a trespass?

With all the much ado being made about a certain large mega church having made members sign documents for ‘discipline’ in the name of adherence to Matthew 18, and all the opinion being spouted online in blogs and some news articles about the subject matter, we thought we’d give our two cents worth and spend time interpreted the whole of the chapter of Matthew 18 for context and ask if people properly apply the principles laid out in this chapter of the Gospels.

Prophetic Vision & Today’s Technology

The ceilings of one generation become the floor the next generation stands on. Do you know the purpose of your generation?  According to several surveys and studies, the current generation in America under the age of 30 outnumbers the Baby Boomer generation, and these are the ones who are going to be tomorrow’s leaders, innovators, politicians, and… leaders.  But yet only 1 in 20 consider themselves spiritual or Christian. Dave Edwards and Steve Bremner discuss a bit of what living in a post Christian culture is starting to look like.

We also, primarily talk today about this current generation, as well as continue where we left off last week and talk about the messes of the gift of prophecy, and have safe environments to grow in the prophetic.

How do we deal with conflicting prophetic words from well-known credible men of God and church leaders, not the least of which includes dealing with when prophetic words never come to pass and they remove their prophecies from YouTube or their webpages?

How can we know when it’s OK to reject a Word someone gives us, AS they’re giving it to us, even if their track record is excellent?

Prophetic Activation
Do we really understand what it means to have the mind of Christ?
The attached photo credit for this episode is from the movie Johny Nmeumonic, and it was about a man who carried important ‘downloads’ in his mind.  But in order to carry it all, he had to erase part of his permanent memory.
In the Christian’s case, we have the mind of Christ and don’t need to erase anything.  But does that mean the instant we’re born again we suddenly know every thing?  Of course not.  We have access to all things through Christ (see Romans 5:2, and 1 Corinthians 2:9-16).
Join Steve Bremner and Dave Edwards this week in our first of two discussions regarding activating the prophetic in our lives and accessing the mind of Christ and learning to hear his voice more clearly in day to day circumstances.

Does God Have a “Plan B” For Your Life? | Discussion with Stephen Best

This week we’re privileged to have on the podcast Stephen Best, pastor of River Run Fellowship in Peterborough, Ontario, for a discussion regarding finding and fufilling your purpose in God. It was very refreshing, and we discuss some sacred cows, such as;

Are there such things as ‘divine appointments’?

Does God have a pre-arranged soulmate for each one of us?

Can we know whether we’re in God’s permissive will or His perfect will? Or do such distinctions even exist in the God journey?

This was definitely a fascinating discussion for me as we touched on some sacred cows.

Do You Bring Heaven To Earth?

Join us again this week as Jeremy Connor, Dave Edwards and Steve Bremner discuss the kingdom of God–or at least try to, as this is probably going to come up again in the near future but we start off with a good discussion.

Questions that came up and may or may not have gotten answered:

What is the kingdom of God? Is it linear through out all of history, or is its full manifestation future tense only?  Do you bring heaven to earth with your words, and actions?  Do you live a supernatural lifestyle? What was an apostle in the Bible?  Do we represent them accurately when we name people ‘apostles’ today?

Presence removes the need for argument. Revival is a bi-product of His presence.

Join us this week as we go in a completely different direction from last week’s discussion and cover the presence of God. This week we talk with Jeremy Connor, a friend of Dave Edwards’ and teacher at Bethel Life in their home church. We had a lot of fun yet covered some deep stuff as well, and ask challenging questions like: Do you value a book or do you value HIM? Is being ‘desperate’ for God or “spiritually hungry” actually a good thing, or a sign of maturity? Is it really that easy to quench or grieve the Holy Spirit?

Who Goes To Hell? | Interview with Joel Crumpton

Does hell really exist?  Of course it does, and that's not what we talk about today on the podcast, but rather who goes there and how to know if you're one of them, and what to do about it.

We post this rather urgent discussion about eternity and eternal matters, because in a current season when many people are talking about hell, it seems most are just watering it down or re-writing Scripture. So, that's why today on the podcast, Joel Crumpton shares his thoughts with Steve Bremner concerning this important and sobering subject, as well as his expertise in soul winning on the streets for over 27 years. Joel shares powerful testimonies of God using him, and encourages you to share your faith with others.

Do you know for certain where you'll go? If you are sitting on the fence, give this a listen and examine yourself.

Are Natural Disasters Judgments From God? | Discussion with S.J. Hill & David Edwards

Join us this week as we finally have back on the show author and international speaker S.J. Hill. He joins Dave Edwards and Steve Bremner as we talk about judgment.

We tried to discuss and answer some of the following questions: Does God really send disasters and calamities to cities and nations in order to teach its people lessons? If so, does it work? Does a ‘rapture mentality’ produce a people interested in what happens in the earth during their generation? Does the Church have way too pessimistic of an outlook when it comes to God’s involvement in the earth today? Does the Church embrace too much fatalism when it comes to dealing with every day events and natural disasters as they happen around the world?

How Is The Church specifically, and the culture in general, supposed to deal with ‘doom and gloom prophets whose ‘prophecies’ don’t come to pass? No, we’re not talking about fringe groups but ones who are more mainstream and accepted in both evangelical and charismatic circles.

This week we’ve got on Fire On Your Head two previous guests, together on the same show. Too much podcast for one podcast, if you ask me. Join us as FIRE School of Ministry teacher Brian Parkman, Joel Crumpton and Steve Bremner discuss some issues related to faith, healing, and receiving from God, and how we have the sure written word of faith and don’t need special “rhema words” from God about every decision we make.

Discipleship -- Getting Back To The Basics

Join us again as I (Steve) talk with missionary Mark Burgess about the necessity of discipleship, but also the practicalities.  An important point that seemed to be emphasized is that you influence and teach people in your area of influence, and should not exclude yourself from straightforward commands of Jesus Christ just because you’re not a “clergy member” or pastor.

We are ALL called to make disciples!

Is the church service the most important thing a pastor should be focused on? What about his or her sermon?

Did Jesus teach his disciples they must have a splashy web page on the internet?

How does accountability fit into the role of being discipled and making disciples?

Is it possible to be discipled by the pastor of a large mega church through media such as internet and books?

Listen and be challenged as we discuss these and other points that came up in the discussion.

If you have not had a chance yet, you should take the time to listen to the previous podcast, Are You Making Disciples? I did with Mark, an individual whom he and his wife are living this out.  In the mean time, since I don’t have a lot of writing on it either on Fire Press or my own site, I encourage you to check out some writings of another fellow missionary I’ve been getting to know better named Shaun Wissmann.  He currently writes articles for Theology 21, and his articles for them as of late seem to really be meditating a lot on the subject of disciple-making.

Are You Making Disciples?

This week we change gears again and interview Mark Burgess. Mark and his wife Anna and kids have been living in Peru for a few years now, and currently are responsible for upwards of 70 people actively being discipled in their cell churches in Chorillos, located on the Pacific coast of Peru. We talk about what it is to be making disciples and building missional communities, and why the Great Commission is not just a call to make converts, but disciples.

Are you multiplying yourself into other people? What about those who you call ‘disciples’? Are you actually discipling others or keeping them at a distance, teaching them with words or studies, but unwilling to allow them access to you?

Is Speaking in Tongues The Initial Evidence of Spirit Baptism?

This week Dave Edwards and Steve Bremner try to cover the subject of speaking in tongues, but this time from the angle of asking specifically if speaking in tongues the initial evidence of Spirit Baptism?  Steve says yes, pretty much always, while Dave says almost always, and take it from there basically and politely sort through our differences in a way that hopefully you will enjoy.

We cover the usual passages this topic elicits, and look today in depth at Acts chapters 2, 8, 10, 15, and 19 mostly and had little time for much else, so it might be a topic we revisit in the near future, and spend a little bit of time in 1 Corinthians 14.

What does “do all speak in tongues” mentioned in passing in 1 Cor 12:30 refer to? Are all tongues created equal? Does the Bible really say that one needs an interpreter every time they speak in tongues?

Keeping Ourselves From Idols

This week Dave Edwards and Steve Bremner sit down to talk about something burning in our hearts, but wind up having a spontaneous discussion on idolatry, and what that looks like in our society culture.

Do you have anything you're setting up in your life "beside" or "near" the altar of God that is taking up your focus and time, in actuality AWAY from God? Do you have any seemingly holy and right ingredients you're adding TO the Gospel's power in your life, that are actually evil and subverting the role of the Holy Spirit in your life?

Since many people make New Year’s resolutions that involve weight loss or spiritual disciplines to fast more, we thought we’d tackle the subject of fasting. Join us this week as David Edwards and Steve Bremner continue their series on unpopular subjects in the body of Christ.

Is it really beneficial or even necessary for the believer in the New Covenant? What is true fasting?
