Really good sports car oriented podcast that is consistently entertaining and funny.

 Aug 1, 2018
Besides Farah consistently laughing at his own bad jokes, the Valley girl "Like"s and his interrupting of segments (to find noises that aren't being broadcasted). It is really good.

Matt Farah and Zack Klapman sit down with automotive icons, pro drivers, comedians and other friends to discuss automotive industry news, racing, projects and whatever else comes to mind. For video test drives and reviews, go movie, where we find out if some bad CraigsList cars can cross an entire US State, off-road!

Episode Date
Stanceworks/Proto Machine

Mike Burroughs is a fabricator who made his name with his company, Stanceworks, building incredible cars out of rusy shells, often using the rust in the aesthetic. His wide-body BMW went viral after SEMA. Now he has a new company, ProtoMachine.

Alan Macey - (Manual Gearbbox Preservation Society)

Alan Macey thinks about cars differently than we do. After graduating from Art Center of Pasadena (arguably the best school for automotive design in the world), he interned at VW, and then worked as a designer at Jeep. He sees cars differently than us. We see a panel gap, and he knows why it's that size. He understands the constraints designers have when they design a new car. He also created the Manual Gearbox Preservation Society ( links below).   We talk about design, Bugatti, VW, challenges of selling a new car, and then we get into a DEEP conversation about AI, the future of car ownership, and argue about how soon it will all arrive.   It's a good listen.

Larry Chen (Photographer, Hoonigan) & Matt Crooke (1552 Wheels)

Photographer of everything cool, Larry Chen,  and co-owner of 1552 Wheels, Matt Crooke, are here to talk about a charity project that we are stoked about! Partnering with TST, they went up to Malibu in the early morning to take photos of Matt's Countach in the charred landscape. The goal: Capture amazing photos, make amazing poster, sell poster, give all proceeds benefit the resident relief effort of Malibu. And it turned out even better than we imagined. We all had a poster of a Countach on our bedroom wall, and now you can too, with the knowledge that the money is going to help people whose houses were destroyed by the horrible fire the area suffered in 2018.

RADWOOD Founders Lane, Rick, and Art

If you were born after 1970, you need to know what Radwood is. What started as a joke is now a multi-city event. It's a car show that celebrates the best and worst of the 80s and 90s; the cars, the fashion, the music. People show up in GT-Rs or Lebaron's, wearing mullet wigs, Addidas, neon, and more. It's a car show with a sense of humor. Rick, Art, and Lane are (some of) the creators of this wonderful madness.

Aaron Gold and Brian Makse

Aaron Gold -one of our funniest and most frequent guests- returns, and he brought a friend, automotive YouTuber Brian Makse.  V12 vs V8s, spool valves, crashing, forbidden cars; this episode has it all.

Aaron has been in this business for decades, and always has an interesting take on a car, a few strange interests (usually featuring diesel) and a bevy of odd voices to help paint a picture. Brian has been talking about cars on YouTube for 4 years, and tested a mess of performance cars. The guys start off the show comparing new Astons to new Bentleys, leading to a debate of V8s vs V12s. Later in the show Brian talks about suspension damping and spool valves, the Chevrolet ZR2, forbidden cars, the 25 year ban, near-misses in racing, and a lot more.

Porsche Dragger- Manuel Carrillo III

After leaving radio to work in the middle of Australia, Manuel Carrillo III found a job around hs favorite thing: cars. He writes for a large number of websites, films and photograhs, but his focus right now is restoring the Porsche 911 he was driven home in after he was born. Yanked from cluttered garage, he dragged it to SEMA in its current state; a car that was honest about where it had been. He talks to us about the car's journey, and a broken Mustang that seems impossible to fix.

Other topics include the duration of a Safari build, the upcoming Radwood 2 show, cheap 90s cars, and how to make $150,000 into $80,000.

Anthony Lahner of Exoticar

Anthony Lahner started his career painting wheels in alleys, but now he runs a company that can restore or perfect the look of any car. We interview him in the second half of the show, after Matt and Zack talk about drifting and bad car movies.

He brought Matt's R32 GT-R back to factory-fresh and upholstered the interior of his Mustang, but he's done far more than that, from cutting his teeth working at a luxury service center to painting out of a van. He's learned which luxury cars are cheap, what causes some weird Ferrari problems, how to protect you car, and has some funny stories about the early days.

In addition, Zack took his E46 drifting- finally- and saw some interesting match ups at the track, so we compare the drifting dynamics of an M3, a 240SX, and the other things we've slid. Topics also include a hilariously-bad car movie from the 80s, why gasoline gets hot, and plenty more.

GarageBand Sucks

So... this week as we wrapped up recording and I attempted to save the recording (like the reckless asshole I am) GarageBand promptly started throwing a fit and ultimately destroyed the second half of the recording.

Since we got a solid hour of podcasting in before the recording was trashed I decided an hour of a quality podcasting was better than none.

Those problems aside, this week we welcome Travis Langness of Edmunds to the podcast table.  We review the Range Rover LWB, Travis talks about Edmund's long term 2005 CLS65 AMG and we discuss the controversy surrounding the Fiesta ST vs BMW E46 M3 video.

Oct 23, 2013

Thad, Matt, Zack and Tom return from a Tuned shoot in Panama; bringing us all the gift their perspective but also dick and fart jokes.  First up, diesel Ford Rangers are apparently a thing that happens as is incessant honking, highly modified Suzuki Samurais, "casino" hookers, 900HP Evoloutions VIIs, and hurdling behemoths modified to the hilt known as Diablo Rojo buses.  All that and more on yet another episode of what is undeniably the most crass automotive podcast nobody ever asked for, The Smoking Tire.

Oct 16, 2013

This week we convene without a guest, but we don't need one because Matt and Zack have driven plenty of new cars in the last week.  At the Chyrsler press event the Ram Pro Master, Dart GT, Fiat 500e, Cherokee Trail Hawk and Grand Cherokee diesel were all abused and thrown recklessly  enthusiastically driven, occassionally with passengers in designated cargo areas.  Matt also shares his experience with the mid-cycle refresh of the Panamera to be followed by discussions of flight lessons, high class hobos, and pizza delivery.

Oct 09, 2013

Alan Peltier and Patrick Moran from HRE Wheels join us to discuss wheels of course.  Alan dives deep into wheel design and construction, while we spout off with our usual barrage of bullshit.  Additionally Alan teaches us what to look for when purchasing wheels.  Beyond all the wheel talk Zack spent some time with a new Tesla Model S and Matt had the good fortune of spending an afternoon with a Lexus LFA.

Sep 11, 2013
Concours d'Ignorance

I'll get right to the cool stuff, Matt put 300 miles on a brand new C7 Corvette Stingray and Zack spent some time with the 2014 911 Turbo S.  Now the rest of this post is likely superfluous but what kind of sorry excuse for a podcaster/blogger would I be if I didn't expound a bit?

Beyond two of the biggest names in sporting things with 4 wheels, Matt and Zack both made their ways to Europe and brought us the gift of stories from the "old country" and likely unending jealousy for many of our listeners.  Matt visited Koenigsegg and spent some time with their test driver as they flogged an Agera R for an afternoon; you know when he wasn't busy touring the continent in a brand new M6 Coupé (accent added for additional euro flavour (also the u because I'm feeling international)).  Whilst making his way across the continent the M6 may or may not have spanked a Ferrari 458.

If that wasn't enough Zack flew over to Germany to film the 2014 911 Turbo S for Tangent Vector, and it seems as though Porsche may have produced a car that is good.  In a different part of the country Matt was busy making his way around the Nürburgring Nordschleife because racecar.

Oh yeah, and of course everybody is back from Pebble Beach and the Concours d'Elegance.  We make fun of snooty old money guys wearing stupid pants, the autmotive journalists who believe they're mocking them (even though they really aren't) and our plans for next years appearance at Pebble.

All of that and the requisite number of dick and fart jokes.

Sep 04, 2013
