Does Your Faith Speak? | 1004
1246

One of the themes of my life has been learning how to publicly proclaim my faith.  My women’s conference, “Faith that Speaks'' reaches thousands of women every year with one goal in mind: to stir their faith to action.  Do we love the Lord? If so, our faith should never be silent, our faith should be a faith that speaks. “Now I stand on solid ground, and I will publicly praise the Lord." Psalms 26:12 ***Find slinks and more at HeidiStJohn.com***

Learning to Let Go and Be Led | 1003
758

Do you remember the very first time you help your child in your arms? Do you remember the weight of responsibility and the incredible love that you felt? Of course you do. I remember feeling overwhelmed at the thought that the hospital staff would let me take home a brand new, 9 pound human being. I mean, let’s be honest… I didn’t know what I was doing! Truly, I was just making it up as I went along. Come to think of it, I’m still doing that in many respects. Most of my seven children are grown now. They are getting married and having children of their own… and I find I am navigating yet another season of motherhood that I will confess to feeling unprepared for. Motherhood is humbling in every stage and in every season. The challenge I am facing now is how to let my children leave. It is both heartbreaking and exhilarating, and I find I am leaning even into the Lord. ***Find slinks and more at HeidiStJohn.com***

Real Hope and Change | 1002
1477

I will never forget the season when Barack Obama was running for president of the United States. My hunch is that you will never forget it either… his slogan is still with us today. “Hope and change.” It worked, of course. After all, who doesn’t want hope and change? We are a people in dire need of hope!  Here’s the thing though, mom: we need to tell our children the truth about hope. Hope isn’t something that we manufacture. It isn’t something we can get from a politician or even a pastor. We don’t have hope because of a policy or a medical procedure. As Christians, we have hope because of Jesus. ***Find slinks and more at HeidiStJohn.com***

In the Line of Fire: Interview with Police Officer’s Wife with Janel Ralat | 999
1456

19 years ago today, our nation was attacked in one of the worst terrorist attacks in history. Today, we’re being attacked from within. Across the United States right now, police officers are being vilified and maligned as Marxists work to defund the police and promote lawlessness. Today, I sit down with Janel Ralat, wife of a police officer in Las Vegas to discuss what it’s like for the families of our brave men and women on the front lines and how we can support them in practical ways. ***For slinks mentioned in the podcast and more, please visit HeidiStJohn.com***

Have you ever noticed that a large part of what Moses did in shepherding the children of Israel was simply to be their biggest encourager? Casting Out Fear | 988

There is so much fear being put on our children right now. We can never forget that fear is a spirit—and God says that "perfect love casts out fear." As parents, we have an incredible opportunity to teach our children how to thrive in times of anxiety and fear—always remembering that we can’t give what we don’t have. Since we can never know what’s around the corner, we must lean daily into the One who does. We need to be ready to give an answer for the hope that we have in Christ—starting with our children. Listen in as I talk about how the term 'rona' started in our home. ***Find slinks and more at HeidiStJohn.com***

Christianity in Crisis: An Overdue Conversation of Biblical Application | 986

Last week, over 2500 Christian leaders, university presidents, magazine editors and pastors signed  "A Christian Statement on Science for Pandemic Times."  They said, "because of our faith in Jesus Christ, we will: wear masks, correct misinformation and get vaccinated," among other things. But is it "Christ-like" to manipulate fellow Believers using Scripture to mandate a vaccine?

Ordinary People Getting #offthebench: a True Story, with Melissa Crabtree—Part 2 | 980
1437

My friend and assistant Melissa Crabtree decided to get #offthebench a few weeks ago when a mask mandate and other restrictions were proposed in her city by the city council. Today we're finishing the story of what it has looked like to stand up and rally others to fight for liberty, even with no experience. She's learning along the way, the Lord is bringing others to help, and it's working. The mandate has been voted down twice now in Enid, Oklahoma! Ordinary people are the ones who need to stand up, and Melissa is sharing what she's learned, how Christians can overcome some typical hangups that keep them sitting on the sidelines, why it matters so much. There is a place for everyone to speak up. ***Visit HeidiStJohn.com for slinks and resources mentioned in podcast!***

Raising Kids Requires Proactive Discipleship | 963

Maybe there's a silver lining in the 'Rona. One of our kids has needed some extra focus on character building, and too much activity - even really good activity, can hinder that development of fruit. Our kids need focused discipleship as they grow, and we have to take the time to do that proactively. Today I'm sharing a little bit of what that looks like in the St. John house.

God is in Control | 958
1437

Jesus reached out to the lepers at great personal risk. Likewise, we need to be who God says we are and be loving the body of Christ. We need to be involved with each other, not forsaking the gathering of believers, and spending time in prayer. The power of prayer isn't based on anything that we do. The God to whom we pray is the Source of the power of prayer. Prayers puts us in touch with our Creator and we can expect incredible things. He can and He will answer us according to His timing and His will. Let's be believers of action and trust Him as we move forward. God is in control, and we are not alone. ***Find slinks and transcription at HeidiStJohn.com/Podcast***

A South Texas county just announced it will arrest people who don't VOLUNTARILY self-quarantine after they test positive for the rona. What is happening to our nation? Today, I'll be talking about hope in light of the very real threat of Marxism here in the United States. That’s up to you and me. We can’t say we weren’t warned. Join us in fasting and prayer for our nation July 10-17, 2020. ***For resources, slinks, and transcription, please go to HeidiStJohn.com***

What Privilege Do We Really Have? | 943
1175

God wants you to have a voice in the culture, without living under an umbrella of shame. Right now, our country is being driven by a spirit of division, and Christians are not exempt. Our responsibility is to offer the reconciliation offered to all at the cross, not to absorb this false sense of shame just to make others feel better. the only way we will escape this is to invite God into our public spaces because we need the wisdom that only comes from God. We all have one privilege offered. Listen and be encouraged! ** You can find the transcript, slinks, and resources mentioned in this podcast on my website at HeidiStJohn.com ***

Mailbox Monday: Looking At Choices & Cultural Issues Through the Lens of Scripture | 941
1318

It's Mailbox Monday today and I'm answering your questions! Human beings are obsessed with choice and the questions are getting more complicated. We talk about choice as believers, we always want to come back to the Solid Rock of Truth we find in the Bible and apply it. Because we have access to Truth, we can see when we are being lied to. Even though your voice might shake and you might have your life threatened, Truth is worth defending, but you have to know it to be able to defend it. Today I'm answering questions about working or staying home, the concept of white privilege, and how we look at cultural issues through the lens of Scripture. ** You can find the transcript, slinks, and resources mentioned in this podcast on my website at HeidiStJohn.com ***

It’s hard to go a few minutes on social media or the news without noticing a post or story concerning race relations these days. It’s always good to be aware, but we must learn to make a habit of researching movements and organizations that might feel good on the surface—but under slight discernment are rotten to the core. We are told in the Bible to be wise, and social situations are surely no exception. How Can We Know If An Attack is Spiritual? | 937
1282

How do we know if something going on is spiritual in nature? How can we tell if we're under attack by evil? Many of you are asking me why I keep saying this current situation is from the enemy. Today, let's look at examples in the Word so that we can observe how the adversary works. We can see very specific, telltale signs that point to demonic attack. God says we must be on guard against the schemes of the devil and today, we'll put on the armor together!  Seeing these attacks for what they are help us know how to handle them in our daily lives. Listen in! I think you'll be encouraged.

‘Rona, Racism, the Radical Left, and the Connection Between Them | 933
1585
We are at a place where we need to do some soul searching in our country. We are having to talk about things that we don't like to talk about as we are in the middle of a grab for power and control of a narrative like I've never seen before. When we stand up against the narrative being pushed by the media and the radical left, we see division in our churches, families, and our closest communities. This agenda is unearthing issues that we need to deal with for sure, but they are not the issues the radical left thinks we need to correct. We can not sacrifice truth on the altar of misguided mercy or be shamed into thinking we are in sin when we are not. God is at work, and unless and until we open our eyes to see what is happening with this media driven narrative we will continue to fall into their trap. This is about control, and we need to be discerning and see the big picture so we don't inadvertently perpetuate a misguided message.

Christianity in the Age of Corona | 929
1243
I'm actually speechless at the way that Christians are responding to a situation that is literally robbing us of freedom, potentially generational in nature. We could see a systemic loss of freedom in our nation, and we are being criticized for fighting for it. It is not wrong to value liberty, and to call it being "addicted to personal freedom" is mind-numbing to me. Yes, we need to be salt and light. We need to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves. We need not sacrifice our liberty to do it!

This is a raw, real look inside our tight-knit family... and I think it will bless and encourage you. Family and a caring community is so important during pregnancy and the postpartum. I'll be honest: you guys, the first week of Junie's birth was hard. We all know the weeks around having a baby are expected to be challenging, but adding the stress of this COVID situation is certainly not helping things. Savannah struggled with severe postpartum anxiety—and the Lord helped us through in some pretty amazing ways. But the most important role we play in the lives of our kids is the role of teacher. As a homeschool mom, I learned a lesson very early in my mothering journey. Where students and teachers are concerned, it’s the teacher learns the most. Afterall, we can’t teach what we don’t understand. David acknowledges His need to be taught by the Lord in Psalm 143:10. When Christians notice drag queens in the library, or hear that P&G is removing the feminine symbol from the Always brand of women’s sanitary products, or learn that their child's schools are opening girls’ bathrooms to biological males, what are we to do? We should be a voice of truth and reason and oppose things that are bad for children, bad for society, etc, BUT we must also be demonstrating in word and deed what is GOOD for society. Join me today for a lively conversation with my friend James Gottry, who serves as the vice president of public policy for the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute.

1388
There is so much to the idea of being ambassadors! An ambassador does not speak to please his audience, but the king who sent him. An ambassador does not speak on his own authority; his own opinions or demands mean little. He simply says what he has been commissioned to say. But an ambassador is more than a messenger; he is also a representative, and the honor and reputation of his country are in his hands. Join me as I dig into week four our of study "Ambassador" from MomStrong International!

The Power (not pressure!) of Hospitality| MSI Week Two—817
1212
God has extended safety and belonging to us, and He calls us to do the same to others. It would work well for the enemy to trick people into believing that the practice of hospitality requires a large budget, large amounts of time, or a large home. All of those are lies. Your house doesn't have to be perfect and your budget doesn't either. Being hospitable is important to God, and He speaks of it in the Word as one clear way we love others.

I Love Jesus and I Cuss a Little: Week 1 of Ambassadors | MomStrong International — 814
1281
We're having a serious identity crisis in the church today. We're trying to be just like the world, rather than be the "set apart" people God has called us to be. Jesus declared, "You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you” (John 15:16). When God chose you and appointed you, you became an ambassador—with the privilege to bear fruit for His glory and arrange your life to please Him! This month at MomStrong International, we'll be digging deep in the topic of being an ambassador for the Lord Jesus. It's a privilege to embrace!

Defining Discernment : Divide | MSI 2/4 – 751
1290
Do you know that God wants you to grow in Him? It's true! That means putting what we learn into practice. It's not enough just to hear God's Word, we need to obey it. We deceive ourselves if we think that it’s pleasing to God to interact with His Word without keeping the Word. We can’t be content with simply hearing the Word and walking away. God’s end goal in His Word is not simply agreement, but transformation.

Christian Alternatives to Yoga with Jessica Smith | Part 2 – 750
2059
Is yoga harmless? Is it just another form of exercise, or is the strong spiritual component of yoga something Christians should be wary of? Yoga means "to yoke" or to open oneself up and invite in the spirit of yoga. Yoga sutras are a basically a guidebook for divination, which God expressly prohibits in the Bible. Listen in as Jessica Smith makes a strong case for how the poses alone invite spiritual forces into our lives that have no place in the lives of Christ followers. "You shall have no other God's before Me." Exodus 20:2 Let's talk about alternatives to yoga today!

Christianity and Yoga: Do They Mix? with Jessica Smith Part 1 – 749
2105
Should Christianity mix with yoga? Are yoga poses benign if we do them but don't engage in the spiritual practice behind them? This is the question I'm asking my guest, Jessica Smith, who taught yoga for many years. Jessica has a unique perspective and a solid biblical stance on this modern controversy. Yoga is one of the six orthodox schools of Hindu philosophical traditions, yet many Christians today are practicing yoga with the belief that yoga's deep ties to Hinduism and Buddhism can be avoided. I will confess, I thought the same thing—but not any longer. Jessica challenged me and opened my eyes to the truth about this topic. Listen in. I pray your heart is blessed and encouraged as you strive to know God in a deeper way and bring Him honor in everything you do.

Defining Discernment : Discern MSI 1/4 – 748
1139
If there is such a thing as truth, there is such a thing as a lie. And our human reasoning should never become the foundation of our answers when presented with a lie cloaked in disguise. We must listen to the Holy Spirit and know the Word of God so we can discern evil when we see it. Discernment is so critical in the life of a Christian. Join me at MomStrong International as we look further at Defining Discernment this month!

Christianity and Politics: Do They Mix? 746
1325
I reject the idea that Christianity and politics don't mix. Churches aren't prioritizing cultural issues, or we don't understand what's actually at stake. While this is not a theocracy, Christians need to be on the forefront of this cultural discussion. We must get #offthebench and #ontothebattlefield!

Like many of you, I came to "know" Kirk Cameron in the 80's, watching the hit sitcom "Growing Pains" — but these days, Kirk is using his influence to strengthen families who are raising their kids in a digital age. Battlefield 101: Big Picture Thinking – 679
1368
Recently, the fight over abortion took center stage over the confirmation of Justice Kavanaugh. It's easy for us to fixate on the small picture (confirmation hearings) and the big picture (the fight for life.) What does it take to stand strong in the gap as we get off the bench for future generations? Answer? Obey the call of God on your life!

Battlefield 101: The False Truth of Tolerance – 673
1114
Many Christians have joined the tolerance movement, wanting to be known for their acceptance of others’ opinions and lifestyles in a misguided attempt to share the gospel. Why is this misguided? Because the life of Jesus stands in stark opposition to this brave new belief system. A thoughtful study of the Bible will quickly reveal that tolerance as it is thought of today was never seen as a virtue. Why? Let's talk about it.

We want to look at both men and women through the eyes of Christ, each as uniquely gifted as the other. Listen in as we go back to the Bible and see what it says about these current events.

Born on a Battlefield | What is Truth? Week 5 – 670
1413
Over 2000 years ago Pontius Pilate spoke to Jesus and asked Him, "What is the truth?" Pilate didn't know he was talking to The Truth: God in the flesh, the One through whom the world was created. Pilate washed his hands of Jesus' death and sadly, never came to know The Truth. Today, we are fortunate to be able to know The Truth! And our job is to teach that to our children. This is the way of the Savior: to live and walk in truth. As you study God's word and prayerfully seek truth, you will *always* find it. Do not grow weary, parents. Seek hard after truth and you will find it!

Measuring Your Version of Christianity – 659
1612
There is a version of "Christianity that is troubling on many levels, and we must be aware and learn to measure it against the Word of God. Jesus did not die so that we can wallow in our sin. He died so that we can be reconciled to the Lord! Transformation happens in the deep as we pursue Jesus. If we spend all of our time in the shallows, we won't grow. Know your word, Sister, and don't miss today's podcast!

Romans 8:28 is one of the most claimed promises about the providence and grace of God in our ups and downs. There are two conditions that are critical for it's application. Don't miss our discussion about it today!

The Slow Fade of Sexual Sin in the Church – 650
1516
The cultural agenda toward sexual sin is grievous and doesn't seem to be skipping any area of our world today. It's God's heart for you that you would stand and be an ambassador for Jesus, no matter the cultural climate in which you find yourself. His heart is that you would love people like He did. He is love, but He is also holy and just. What does that mean for us in how we relate to those who claim that sexual sin isn't really sin after all?

I can do ALL things through Christ… Is That Really In the Bible? – 648
1497
We like to use "I can do all things through Christ..." as a good luck charm, but knowing the context of it is critical, especially so we can teach it correctly to our children. Christ is enough no matter our circumstances, and Paul's aim with this verse is quite different than we typically understand.

It’s Not About You | Is that Really in the Bible? Week 5 – 645
953
Today, we're continuing our study "Is that Really in the Bible" from MomStrong International! Have you ever thought of yourself as the center of God's story? In a post-modern Church, that is often the case. We often have a tendency to insert ourselves into the center of biblical stories–we become the hero instead of seeing Jesus as the true hero or we reduce narratives down to a set of moral principles to apply so we can have a better life. This kind of man-centered reading and preaching can take glory away from God and distort the true nature of the Bible. Bottom line? The Bible is about God. It's HIStory - and it points us to Jesus.

Why Do We Homeschool? – 644
1365
People often ask me why my husband and I decided to homeschool our seven children. Truthfully, we never planned on homeschooling—but we have come to believe that it is the best educational option out there today for many reasons: socialization, educational opportunities, freedom... just for starters. If you're a parent who is sitting on the fence about homeschooling or if you're a seasoned homeschooler who has lost your vision for education, tune in today! Heidi has a big hug for you and a reminder that what you're doing is worth it.

1095
Many of us are struggling with the hard places of life right now. Unexpected loss, tragedy, prodigal children, a culture that cries out for hope. Join Heidi today as she addresses this topic and reads a little from her newest book, "Prayers for the Battlefield." We cannot always understand why things happen — but we can know that God's heart toward His children is good, and that He never leaves or forsakes His own.
