An Important Message from JBR (Read)
03:24

-- FROM CHRIS --

Dear JBR family,

I hope you're all excited about 'No Time To Kill.' Let's hope it's an absolute belter!

This is a bit of a heartfelt message, but with so many ongoing things at the moment, unfortunately, I'll be stepping away from JBR for the foreseeable future.

It's been such a fun five years of Bondage. I'm incredibly proud of what JBR has become. It was brilliant to meet so many fellow Bond geeks, and it was especially cool seeing all the JBR communities spring up around the globe, but the time has come for me to move on.

Sometimes life gets in the way of Bond, and sadly this is one of those times.

So this is Agent Wright signing off.

Au revoir.

PS. Roll on 3rd April 2020!

-- FROM TOM --

JBR Family,

What can I say? After 5 years and 2 million downloads, I'm of course gutted to see our man in Cardiff go, but like all good things, it has to come to an end eventually.

As far as the future of the podcast goes? I'm not yet sure. I'll be thinking things through over the next few weeks. Ultimately I need to go with what feels right in my gut. Whether that's following Chris' lead and bowing out gracefully, or coming back with a kiss kiss bang bang. I'm sure with a bit of reflection the right decision will come soon enough.

Whatever happens, I want to thank all the members of the JBR family from the bottom of my heart. Without you guys, JBR wouldn't have lasted beyond the first year, let alone five.

Once I've done some thinking, I'll of course be in touch.

For now, let's enjoy this little highlight reel of some of our more "professional" moments from the last 5 years.

Thanks again everybody,

Tom

PS. Oh by the way, in case you were wondering how I feel about Bond 25's new title?...I f***ing love it, mate!

#121: A Tribute To Sir Roger Moore
04:14:21
Sir Roger Moore sadly passed away aged 89 on May 23rd 2017. As the ever popular, ever charming "People's Bond" we decided to suspend our regular programming and instead put together a tribute to the great man.

Over the next 4+ hours we go through the messages of sympathy from the world of Bond from Sean Connery to Daniel Craig. We talk to Maddy Smith, Roger's very first Bond girl. We're joined by author of Catching Bullets: Memoirs of a Bond fan, Mark O'Connell, and we're even joined by the great man himself as we revisit our interview with Sir Roger from 2016.

We also wanted to give a voice to Sir Roger's fans around the world, so we put out a request for messages from the JBR listeners. What can only be described as a "server melting" response followed with over 3 hours of voicemails all sharing stories, memories and favourite moments of Sir Roger.

Being the lifelong fans of the great man that we all are, this episode serves as a love letter to Sir Roger and our way of thanking him for a lifetime of smiles.

Sir Roger, we salute you.

#095: For Your Eyes Only Review (Part 1)
03:08:24

2015 was “The Year of Sir Roger.” 2016 is the year of Sir Roger continued with our latest film review: For Your Eyes Only. After the mammoth amount of SPECTRE coverage we provided last year it feels good to step back in time to the first Bond film of the 80s.

This time we Sir Rog trade outer space for a good old fashioned, Fleming-infused spy romp. This is without doubt Roger’s grittiest entry in the series but what the JBR crew think? Do we miss the bright yellow banana suit? Do we find ourselves pining for the more outrageous side of the big man? Find out in today’s episode of James Bond Radio.

#077: [SPECTRE 020] Nods to the Past
46:15
Day 20 of 30 Days of SPECTRE!

As we’ve all noticed by now, SPECTRE is absolutely jammed to the gizzards with nods to previous Bond films. From the helicopter fight in the pre-title sequence to Blofeld’s You Only Live Twice style crater base, Bond 24 is steeped in 007 history.

In today’s episode Chris takes us through the meticulous notes he took during his 3rd viewing. We have two complete sides of A4 paper to get through today folks.

With all that said, we're sure there are plenty we’ve missed, so let us know in the comments if you’ve picked up on any Bondian Easter Eggs we didn’t catch.

43:58
Day 13 of 30 Days of SPECTRE!

It’s Bond vs Hinx in a killer car chase through the streets of Rome on today's James Bond Radio. The last time we saw an Aston Martin face off against a Jaguar things didn’t go too well, so today we see if the second go around is any better.

Does it match up to the frantic energy of the Quantum of Solace pre-titles? Does it stand among the best of Bond car chases or is it a stinker? Find out on today's James Bond Radio.

Considering Mr. White was sent to kill Le Chiffre and was present at the Quantum opera house meeting we speculate on his potential position within SPECTRE itself. Could he have been Number 2? Or maybe even 3 or 4? Find out in today’s episode of James Bond Radio.

Day 5 of 30 Days of SPECTRE!

Today it’s time to talk Q. There’s no doubt Ben Whishaw has huge shoes to fill after Desmond Llewelyn’s final appearance in 1999, so does he pull it off?

With key scenes inside Q’s lab and played out in the field, Q gets a lot more screen time than usual in SPECTRE. So, let’s find out if he has what it takes to carry the Q torch.

Nov 05, 2015
#061: [SPECTRE 004] M
54:28
Day 4 of 30 Days of SPECTRE!

Ralph Fiennes, Ralph Fiennes, Ralph Fiennes! Is there any finer actor for Judi Dench to pass the M torch to than that? We wager that there is not.

We had a brief glimpse at the end of Skyfall but SPECTRE is the first time we get to see the new M in all his glory.

We talk through all the M scenes from SPECTRE, ponder on the Gareth Mallory character in comparison to Sir Miles, as played by Bernard Lee and speculate on just how long we might see Ralph dishing out 007’s orders.

02:11:27

Wheeeere aaaare you? Why do you hiiiide?

That's right JBR army, it's time for us to review that most misunderstood of James Bond films, 1979's Moonraker.

Until 2002, this film tended to be the butt of many a joke. "Bond in space? Come oooon" and "That's the crazy one that's a bit like Star Wars, right?" have been common remarks throughout the years.

So it's time for Tom & Chris, your intrepid Bond reporters to revisit what was once one of the most controversial among fans and see how it stands up today.

Sit down, strap in and see how many G's you can take!

#047: Bond Behind The Scenes: Nikki Van Der Zyl Interview
01:12:29

This week we're joined by an unsung hero of Bond, Nikki Van Der Zyl. As a voice artist she provided the voice of some of the most iconic Bond girls of all time from Honey Ryder (...and yes that is Nikki singing Underneath the Mango Tree), to Shirley Eaton's Jill Masterson,  and Thunderball's Domino. The list doesn't end there either. Nikki was involved in a total of 10 Bond films with Moonraker being her last.

This is another behind the scenes interview with someone who was there from the very beginning of the cinematic Bond. You'll hear tales of hanging out on set with Gert Frobe during the filming of Goldfinger, you'll hear how she revoiced the entire female cast of Dr. No (with the exception of Moneypenny and Miss Taro) and maybe...just maybe you might even hear Nikki performing a line of Bond girl dialogue too.

Enjoy :-)

#015: Bond Behind The Scenes - Norman Wanstall Interview
01:46:45

Alongside being the first ever Oscar winner for a Bond movie (he won best sound effects for Goldfinger), he also has some of the most interesting behind the scenes stories we've ever heard. Here we are this week looking at Bond #2, From Russia, With Love. Many Bondsters claim this movie is the best of them all, so we go through this baby with a fine tooth comb discussing everything from Bond's sloppy skills on the Orient Express, to the sad story of Kerim Bey actor Pedro Armendariz, while also (of course) chatting about Tania's naked bottom.

#004: The Lost Music of Bond
01:52:01

Welcome to episode 4 of James Bond Radio. In today's show, we're talking about all the Bond music that never made the cut. We hear the original recording of Goldfinger, as performed by Anthony Newley and NOT Shirley Bassey. We hear Johnny Cash's attempt at Thunderball, Alice Cooper's attempt at The Man With The Golden Gun, a solid attempt at The World Is Not Enough by British band Straw, that might be even better than the final version and many more!

We'd love it if you could spread the word about James Bond Radio whether that's tweeting/sharing/posting or good old fashioned word of mouth.

#002: Bond 24 & Beyond
01:36:04

Our inaugural episode of James Bond Radio turned out so well and received such a great response, we thought we'd release a new episode each week for a month, before switching to our regular schedule of twice monthly.

In today's episode we're talking all about Bond 24 and beyond. We talk about what we want to see from Daniel's next outing, what we don't want to see and we revisit that age old question of who might pick up the PPK after Daniel ends his run. Also, based on the recent court case resolution, we look at whether our old friend Ernst just might rear his ugly head in the next film.

Look out for episode 3 coming next friday!
