Episode Date
Ep 29: A Few Things I Wish I Would Have Learned a Long Time Ago
36:17

Your GPA doesn’t define you. Your beauty doesn’t define you. Your success doesn’t define you. And the truth is - you won't ever be enough. But He is enough and that is what gives us hope, peace and joy.

On today’s episode, Lindsey dives into a few things that she wishes she would have learned and implemented into her own life a long time ago.

She discusses topics like: Being kind to the ‘weird’ or different people in your path, living for an audience of one, fear of people’s opinions and asking the question, “How far is too far?” when it comes to sin.

Ep 28: Anxiety, Depression and When God Isn't Enough with Rebekah Lyons
34:28

In this episode, we talk with author and speaker, Rebekah Lyons, about her battle with anxiety and depression and the ways in which God continues to heal her. She shares how to break out of the bondage that sin ensnares us in and the beauty of genuine confession. Rebekah discusses the moment she confessed that God wasn’t enough for her and we are so thankful for her vulnerability.

If you're new to this podcast, you’ll find that we are very raw and vulnerable about topics like marriage, friendships, motherhood, sin and the grace God has had on our lives. We love sharing the mic with other women who do the same.

Ep 23: Our Dating History, How We Met Our Husbands & When We Knew He Was "The One"
44:25

We all have those hilarious first kiss stories, those awkward dates and high school crushes that we sometimes just want to forget. On today's episode, Amaris and Lindsey address how to follow God's voice in dating and what biblical pursuit looks like in a relationship. They share both funny and messy dating stories, how they originally fell in love with their husbands and also how Nick and Jesse proposed.

Also, we did have some technical difficulties when recording this episode (Lindsey's son changed her mic settings without her knowing), and we second guessed if we should publish it or not. But sometimes, things like this happen in real life, and we need to have grace on ourselves! We enjoyed the conversations and know you will too, but please forgive us for the sound quality and know that it isn’t the norm for the Milk and Honey Podcast.

Ep 20: What Do Your Words Say About You?
42:02
Words are a powerful thing. They give us the power to heal and the power to hurt. The power to give hope and the power to discourage. The power to build up and the power to tear down. There is no marriage, family, or friendship that isn’t either made stronger or made weaker by how you choose and use your words. On today's episode, we are sharing how you can offer life-giving words to the people in your life while remaining aware of the damage that our tongue can cause.

Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell."

1 Thess. 5:11, "Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing."

Ep 18: How to Know If You Have a "Rotting" Heart
45:51

On today's episode, Lindsey and Amaris are discussing "heart rot". We often do our best to appear as if we have it all together when our lives are rotting away from the inside out. But God is faithful to cut off the dead and the rotting waste that fills our lives and to re-plant a new heart and spirit within us - to give us a NEW, better, more fulfilling life.

If you feel your heart tinge a little bit as you listen to this episode, we hope you don't turn us off. These conversations aren't always easy, but the most difficult ones are often the most life-giving.

Ep 17: A Marriage Won't Survive On Leftovers: Giving Your Spouse The Best of You with Jennie Lusko
51:26
Do you offer your husband your leftover energy, leftover joy and leftover love after a day spent serving others? Proverbs 14:1 says, A wise woman builds her house, but a foolish woman pulls it down with her own hands." As a woman, as a wife and as a mom, we have the power to build up or tear down our homes and our husbands.

On today's episode, Jennie Lusko, wife of Pastor Levi Lusko, talks
about the hardship of marriage after tragically losing their precious 5-year-old daughter, Lenya. She discusses what their quiet time looks like together, how she builds her home as well as the boundaries she has created to ensure that she has enough left for her husband, even at the end of the busiest day.

Sometimes God, in His gentle, quiet voice, speaks the words . . . "my precious daughter, wait" and it isn't always easy to be obedient to that calling. We want to encourage you to pursue a relationship with Jesus above pursuing a husband. We also share vulnerably about the mistakes that we made in our own dating lives.

"For your Maker is your husband - the Lord Almighty is His name, the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth." Isaiah 54:5

Ep 14: How to Be a Safe Wife for Your Husband
38:51

Nobody gets married thinking, “I hope this fails and ends in divorce.”

And yet, 50% of married couples actually end in divorce. It’s heartbreaking and shocking. Over time, wedges can make their way into our marriages if each spouse does not play their role in fostering love and truth. One way that marriages are breaking down is through the door of pornography. The Bible says to even look at a woman with lust in your eyes is to commit adultery in your heart. So, how do we protect our marriages from adultery and porn? How do we guard the love between us and our spouses?

On this episode, Amaris is joined by her husband Nick and they are sharing how husbands and wives can intentionally guard their marriage from porn.

Ep 13: Living it Out: How We Afford to Travel Regularly
24:49

On today's episode, I am sharing the secret to having never paid for a flight in 7 years of marriage, tips for staying in an AirBnB for no cost at all and how to honor God with your time while on vacation.

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." - 1 Corinthians 10:31

I (Lindsey) absolutely love to travel and I like to do so as often as I can. However, it can get really pricey. We want to honor God in the small things (such as traveling) so we have found some tips and tricks that help us to stay out of debt while we travel and essentially go on vacation for next-to-nothing!

I have written a blog post discussing these tips in detail and included all links! Click here to get to the blog post!

Ep 12: How to Choose Joy and Thrive in Motherhood with Phylicia Masonheimer
45:14

You are capable of finding sweetness in even the most challenging and stressful moments of motherhood. In this episode, Amaris and Lindsey interview their friend Phylicia Masonheimer, and discuss the cultural phenomenon of ‘failure-centric parenting’ and why we, as Christian women, should avoid it at all costs.

Phylicia shares practical tips on how you can take charge of your own home to maximize your joy in the day-to-day, rather than counting down the minutes until bedtime. You were called to thrive in your motherhood - and nothing less. That’s the Gospel in action, to live out a lifestyle of victory over hardship, and to honor and celebrate those that the Lord has given us: our sweet babies.

Ep 11: How to Love Your People Well
43:26

We are all looking for something to mark us. We share our good deeds, we wear Jesus and Coffee T-shirts, we have little fish bumper stickers on our cars and we talk about our children’s achievements.

But here's the truth:

The one thing that will TRULY mark you is not how many bible verses we can recite nor how great our kid is at sports or math. Instead, it is the way that we love one another, specifically in the same way that God has loved us.

Our hope with this episode is that it will be a reminder of the importance of being a friend, family member and spouse who shows up for the people in your life.

We will discuss:

1. Showing Up

2. Listening Without Talking

3. Keeping "Ourselves" Out of Their Pain

4. Challenging Gossip

5. Carrying One Another's Burdens

"Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2.

Ep 10: Sex and Intimacy
44:15

Our culture says that sex is passionate and amazing outside of marriage, but once we are married it becomes dull and lacks passion. This just doesn't have to be true.

We were created for pleasure and we believe that God desires our sex lives to be thriving and holy.

In this episode, Amaris and Lindsey share a lot of laughter and words of encouragement about the popular topic of sex. Their hope is that you feel like you’re just at a girlfriend’s house, talking about the beauty of intimacy while also addressing the struggles of it all.

27:24

How do you want to be known in 2019? In a world filled with opportunity and temptation, it can sometimes feel daunting to try and make something of our lives or to stick to our truths in moments of weakness.

In this episode, we will discuss why we don't do New Year's Resolutions and how we 'name' our years. and the process of creating, strengthening and cultivating your core and foundational values whether you are single, engaged or married.

Amaris will share the values that she has created for herself and her family. She discusses how these beliefs guide her in personal relationships, with her husband & children and also in moments of temptation. Find out why she focused on the word 'warm' as a single woman and how that has grown into a set of family values that her children now follow.

Ep 06: What to Say When You Don’t Know How to Pray
27:02

We have the freedom to speak conversationally to God. Prayer can create a deeper and more genuine relationship with God - one that isn’t forced, random or selfish.  If your roommate or spouse came home at the same time and had the same exact conversation with YOU every single day. how would it feel? Would that conversation create connection or distance? Would it promote a vulnerable or a guarded relationship? It wouldn’t be much of a relationship at all, would it?

Ep 05: Stop Fighting, Start Understanding: Accept Differences In Your Marriage
33:04

You and your spouse are biologically, spiritually and experientially different people.

Today we discuss a few practical ways to end the arguments and gain understanding for the betterment of your marriage.

The biological differences between you and your spouse have the opportunity to cause a lot of tension. You were also raised completely differently in different homes and you both have a very different relationship with God.

The differences between ourselves and our spouses can bring us closer together - if only we let them. We must put an end to the expectations for our spouse to parent like us, sleep like us, clean the house just like us, socialize like us, love like us and pursue God just like us.

Today Lindsey and Amaris are discussing:

  • Healthy communication in marriage
  • Practical tips to help stop the bickering once and for all
  • Putting an end to unrealistic expectations
  • Why you should never say ‘never’ (or ‘always’) in your marriage
  • How to find balance with football and video game loving husbands
  • Acceptance vs. Compromise

Ep 04: Insecurity, Intimacy and The Gospel
33:36

Insecurity has a negative impact on our intimacy, marriage and motherhood, but it doesn't have to.

Today we are discussing how the gospel changes the way that we see ourselves. A postpartum body, wrinkles and aging or the effects of a busy life are all reasons that we may not feel comfortable in our own skin.

Today, Lindsey and Amaris want to remind every one of you that you won’t ever be perfect and you may never feel fully comfortable in a bikini, but there is fullness of joy in accepting your body and beauty because of who God is, not who you are.

Today we are discussing:

  • How you may be “stealing” from your husband in a sexual way
  • “Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised” Proverbs 31
  • Why you have a unique opportunity to satisfy your spouse sexually
  • Feeling confident and comfortable with a bare, make-up free face
  • Accepting compliments with joy
  • How the gospel can completely change the way that we see ourselves

Ep 03: Choosing Self-Discipline
27:22

Our lack of self-control can keep us from living the purposeful life that God intended for us. Fight the 'treat yourself' mentality and pursue His calling.

It’s too easy to end a long day with a bag of chips, a glass of wine and a Netflix binge. But are those things really good? Do they really, truly make us better? In moderation, sure. However, there often comes a point when you realize that you want a lot more out of your life.

In today’s episode, Lindsey and Amaris are talking about how ‘treating yourself’ doesn’t always mean giving into the temporary satisfactions that are offered. When you give in to the lie that these things make you better, you lose sight of Who ultimately gives you rest and joy.

Today, Lindsey and Amaris dive into the discussion about how self-discipline has an effect on every single aspect of our lives. The way that we treat our bodies impacts our families. The way that we treat our minds impacts our work and our success. The way that we treat our downtime affects our spiritual and physical purpose. Amaris and Lindsey bring to light the hope that can be found in choosing self-control as well as practical tips to help you implement this productivity into your daily life.

Ep 02: Stop Going House-to-House for the Holidays
26:36

Holidays are chaotic, but we have the freedom to make them peaceful. Your holidays don't need to be filled with bickering, excess spending or stress.

Today’s episode is all about slowing down. With the joy of the holidays can also come stress, chaos, obligation and excessive spending. Lindsey and Amaris want to share how you can have complete freedom from every single one of those things this year.

In many families, there are often expectations to jump from house to house on Thanksgiving and Christmas in order to meet everyone else’s needs. Today, Lindsey and Amaris are sharing practical tips and verses that will help you to fight the temptation to be all things to all people.

We want to remind you of the importance of loving, serving and being present during the holidays, and sometimes (though not all the time) that simply means saying ‘no.’ We hope that you are inspired to focus on your own little family this year. Instead of bickering, rushing and going into debt, they will share how you can bring happiness, peace and financial wisdom back into the holidays.

Ep 01: More Than Our Mess
42:32

Lindsey and Amaris share the raw stories of their pasts and how God has redeemed those stories for good.

This honest conversation gives women the freedom to break through the stigma of shame. It is a reminder to us that the bondage has been broken because of who Jesus is. The heartache caused by sexual abuse, emotional dependency, alcohol, loss of family members and more has turned into a beautiful testimony of God’s grace, forgiveness, redemption and love in the midst of it all.
