Description

Celebrity paranormal investigator Bridget Marquardt (Star of E!’s The Girls Next Door) embarks on an exploration of self-described ghost magnets and the spirits, poltergeists and pookas they attract. When, where and how did they realize that they had this spiritual magnetism? What’s it like living with the specters of the dead? Bridget investigates all that and more in her weekly podcast.

Episode Date
The Mysterious Madame Tussauds with Helen Larimore & Lisa Morton
45:44

This week we are LIVE from Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in Hollywood (#tussaudsla)! There have been many reports of this busy tourist attraction being haunted! So, of course, the first thing I wanted to do was to come here after the attraction was closed, hear all of the spooky ghost stories from the manager and the staff, some history on the location from Lisa Morton and then do a little late night investigation of our own!

And, Guess what?!?! You get join us!

Do these wax figures come to life at night or are they so lifelike that it just feels like it? What’s the history of the building did something horrific go down here in the past? What about the history of the museum itself…how did this come to be? What about Madame Tussaud, who was she and what inspired her to create these lifelike replicas? Or is it the area? Hollywood has a very seedy and mysterious past…we are going to be discussing all of these questions and more!

Madam Tussauds is a 3 story museum with 125 celebrity figures in display.  Our guest today is Helen Larimore, the marketing manager of the museum.  She is originally from Chicago and since she was a child she has been obsessed with all things bizarre and strange.  She has been at Madame Tussauds for 2 years now and she says working within the walls of the Wax Museum is a perfect fir for her.  Her proudest accomplishment was creating a horror themed room for the attraction that covers many classics from yesterday and today.  Like Bela Lugosi as Dracula and IT SET.

She says she has always had a bit of a 6th sense her entire life and working at the museum has sparked her 6th sense on several occasions.

About Katie Burr

Katie Burr grew up in a household where the paranormal was openly discussed and accepted. Both her Mother and Grandmother would tell her stories of their encounters with the paranormal when she was very young, and she began having her own experiences at the age of twelve. She considers herself to be highly sensitive, and from a young age she began exhibiting heightened sight and hearing. Her mother used to wonder how her daughter could possibly have seen an approaching plane so far in advance of it coming into others’ sight. Katie’s investigative approach has been shaped largely by her heightened sensitivity, combined with her upbringing in a scientific household and lifelong exposure to the paranormal. This unique combination of abilities and understanding give her an extremely healthy balance of openness and skepticism. She has appeared as an investigator on Discovery Channel's Ghost Lab, as well as A&E's upcoming World's Biggest Ghost Hunt. She now has ten years of experience as a paranormal investigator, and also works as an Interior & Graphic Designer.

The Alexandria Hotel & DNLA Hotel Haunts with Craig Owens
01:09:52

When in the city of Angeles you can’t help but look for ghosts at some of LA’s legendary hotels, especially the notorious Alexandria Hotel, Mission Inn and Hotel Cecil.

Meet the man behind Bizarre Los Angeles, Craig Owens. Craig’s an LA-based writer and photographer who began staging vintage style photo shoots at haunted hotels as an idea for an Old Hollywood themed project. Little did he know that while on location, he he would catch his first ghost on film. This left him wondering if his photo shoots were somehow triggering paranormal activity.

Craig’s book, "Haunted by History, Vol. 1," earned a Publishers Weekly Star Review. His encyclopedic knowledge of each hotel's history, paired with his haunting photography and sense of humor has made him a favorite of historical societies and ghost enthusiasts alike. His next volume, featuring the true histories of eight more haunted Southern California hotels, will be released in 2019.

He’s appeared on "My Ghost Story: Caught on Film" about an apparition at the Palomar Inn in Old Town Temecula. Since that time, he's been quoted in James Bartlett's book, "Gourmet Ghosts 2," and Colin Dickey's book: "Ghostland: An American History in Haunted Places." More recently, he has appeared on Nerdist's popular "Bizarre States" online podcast, and has been featured in "Los Angeles Magazine," and "NBC Los Angeles."

About Craig Owens

Los Angeles-based photographer Craig Owens first fell in love with history and the paranormal in 1972. At that time, he was as a seven-year-old boy playing on the grounds of a Southern plantation known as Waverley, located outside of West Point, Mississippi. While Waverley’s owners admitted to seeing and hearing the ghost of a young female child, Craig never encountered her. Yet the atmosphere and history of Waverley stayed with him long after his family moved to Texas.

In 1994, he moved to Los Angeles and began to work freelance in the film and television industry. His production credits include Fudge (1995), The Christmas Box (1995), Wag the Dog(1997), Phone Booth (2002), and The Gilmore Girls (2000-2001).

In 2002, Craig left film production to work for the Century City Chamber of Commerce and later the International Cinematographers Guild, I.A.T.S.E. Local 600. While working for the chamber of commerce, he contributed articles for the Century City View and wrote the History of Century City.

In 2009, Craig began staging vintage style photo shoots at haunted hotels as an idea for an Old Hollywood themed project. While on location, he experienced paranormal activity. This left him wondering if his photo shoots were somehow triggering it.

The following year, he started his Facebook blog, Bizarre Los Angeles, a page dedicated to Los Angeles’ forgotten history. He also continued to hold vintage photos shoots at haunted locations. Little did he know that his love for haunted hotels would bring media attention. In 2013, he appeared on My Ghost Story: Caught on Film after he unintentionally photographed an apparition at the Palomar Inn in Old Town Temecula, California. The following year, the online magazine, The Verge, published an article on his paranormal experiences at the Aztec Hotel in Monrovia, California.

Craig Owens has now gained notoriety for his photography and his passion for historical research. He has also appeared in other people’s books, including Gourmet Ghosts 2 by James T. Bartlett and Ghostland: An American History in Haunted Places by Colin Dickey. He has also been featured in articles published on Los Angeles Magazine and NBC Los Angeles.

While he firmly believes that ghosts exist, he is reluctant to accept all paranormal stories. He instead approaches the subject with a good deal of skepticism, preferring to err on the side of not believing enough. He also encourages his readers to form their own opinions as to whether ghosts are real, and warns people not to believe in ghost legends unless the legends are supported by historical fact.

About Haunted By History, Volume 1

Haunted by History, Volume I, by Craig Owens uncovers little known facts about eight prominent historic hotels in Southern California and the origins behind many of their ghost stories.

Dead & Alive from The Queen Mary & Dark Harbor Experience
01:06:19

This week we have another special episode because I am recording live from the infamous Queen Mary in Long Beach, California! The Queen Mary’s creation and launch was nothing if not extraordinary and her story is rich with history, elegance and grandeur. From the time her construction began in 1930 in Clydebank, Scotland, the Queen Mary was destined to stand in a class all her own. Despite suffering economic setbacks during the Great Depression, which stalled construction on the ship for several years, Cunard Line spared no expense on building the Queen Mary. In this episode we’ll talk to Queen Mary Commodore Everett about its haunted history and his personal experiences with the QE2’s ghostly guests. And I’ll also speak with Steve Sheldon, Executive Producer of the Queen Mary Dark Harbor experience.

I have said this on my show before but there are so many hotels or other locations that try to deny or hide it and one of the things that I LOVE about the Queen Mary is how they embrace it. I love to hear about the things others have experienced, the nightly ghost tours and I love that you use those stories as the basis for some of the mazes in Dark Harbor! And recently re-opening the most haunted room on the ship to allow brave souls like me to spend the night!! We are going to talk more about that later but I am a definite fan.

About The Queen Mary.

The Queen Mary’s creation and launch was nothing if not extraordinary and her story is rich with history, elegance and grandeur. From the time her construction began in 1930 in Clydebank, Scotland, the Queen Mary was destined to stand in a class all her own. Despite suffering economic setbacks during the Great Depression, which stalled construction on the ship for several years, Cunard Line spared no expense on building the Queen Mary!

On May 27, 1936, the Queen Mary departed from Southampton, England embarking on her maiden voyage. She boasted five dining areas and lounges, two cocktail bars and swimming pools, a grand ballroom, a squash court and even a small hospital. The Queen Mary had set a new benchmark in transatlantic travel, which the rich and famous considered as the only civilized way to travel. She quickly seized the hearts and imaginations of the public on both sides of the Atlantic, representing the spirit of an era known for its elegance, class and style.

Since her retirement from the sea as an active liner in 1967, the Queen Mary has never been more popular as an iconic Southern California attraction, hotel, and venue for special events. The ship carried some 2.2 million passengers in peacetime and 810,000 military personnel in the Second World War, but here in Long Beach, an estimated 50 million people have visited. The day the ship was launched in 1934, a well-known English psychic, Lady Mable Fortiscue-Harrison would predict, “The Queen Mary will know her greatest fame and popularity when she never sails another mile or carries another fare-paying passenger.” A compelling insight!

For three years after her maiden voyage, the Queen Mary was the grandest ocean liner in the world carrying Hollywood celebrities like Bob Hope and Clark Gable, royalty like the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and dignitaries like Winston Churchill. During this time she even set a new speed record, which she held for 14 years. But when the Queen Mary docked in New York in September 1939 that would be the last time she would carry civilian passengers for many years.

As World War II started, the Queen Mary's transformation into a troopship had begun. She was painted a camouflaged grey color and stripped of her luxurious amenities. Dubbed the "Grey Ghost" because of her stealth and stark color, the Queen Mary was the largest and fastest troopship to sail, capable of transporting as many as 16,000 troops at 30 knots. After the end of WWII, the Queen Mary began a 10-month retrofitting process, which would return the ship to her original glory. On July 21, 1947, the Queen Mary resumed regular passenger service across the Atlantic Ocean, and continued to do so for nearly two more decades.

The increasing popularity of air travel helped signal the end of an era for the Queen Mary. By 1965 the entire Cunard fleet was operating at a loss and they decided to retire and sell the legendary Queen Mary. On October 31, 1967, the Queen Mary departed on her final cruise, arriving in Long Beach, California, on December 9, 1967. She has called Southern California her home ever since. The Queen Mary is now a floating Hotel, Attraction and Event & Wedding Venue, home to three world-class restaurants and an icon in Southern California.

About Ernie Alonzo, Charles Spratley and Haunted Orange County.

Haunted Orange started out in 2009 as the brain child of Ernie Alonzo, a lifetime Old Town Orange resident who began a website just as a hobby and called it HauntedOrange.com. On the site he would post historic photographs of Orange, as well as ghost stories he collected from personal interviews of shopkeepers and business owners in Old Town Orange. Later that year he met Charles Spratley, a San Diego native, local historian and author who relocated to Orange County and had formerly ran a successful ghost tour company in San Diego. Soon the two were brainstorming on how they would turn Ernie's collection of historical data and ghostly tales into a ghost tour for Old Town Orange with a heavy emphasis on local history. In September of 2010, with much local anticipation, the first Old Town Orange Haunted History Ghost walk was launched.

The summer of 2014 launched the Downtown Santa Ana Ghost Walk with an opening gala at the Howe-Waffle historic Mansion attended by city officials, local media and invited guests. The same year a name change to Haunted Orange County was made in anticipation of more Orange County city locations being added to the company's offerings. In the fall of 2017 they launched their Black Star Canyon Ghost Walk and later became the first and currently only ghost tour company to run a county licensed and permitted tour in Black Star Canyon. On February of 9, 2019 our all new San Juan Capistrano tour will debut.

In addition, since 2010 they have produced a diverse offering of paranormal, haunted and horror themed special events including, haunted themed dinners, annual paranormal lecture series, sugar skull workshops, mask sculpting courses, UFO sky watches, Desert Ghost Town sleepovers, horror movie screenings, panels at halloween and paranormal conventions, guest speaking at colleges and universities, paranormal celebrity meet & greets, cemetery tours, theatrical seance recreations, psychic presentations, Bigfoot and cryptozoology lectures and much, much more!

Beginning 2012 they conducted public paranormal investigation events all over Southern California as well as a handful out of state with some of the most recognized paranormal TV personalities and researchers in the world.

Haunted Orange County is currently operated by Fandom Productions, a fan based entertainment and management company which also operates Bob Gurr's Waltland Disney History Tours in Los Angeles. (not affiliated with the Walt Disney Company).

Lost & “Unhinged” at The Winchester Mystery House with Walter Magnuson
54:57

Recorded Live from the World famous Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California, Bridget special guest is the GM of the worlds most unusual mansion, Walter Magnuson.

The Winchester Mystery House® is an architectural wonder and historic landmark in San Jose, CA that was once the personal residence of Sarah Lockwood Pardee Winchester, the widow of William Wirt Winchester and heiress to a large portion of the Winchester® Repeating Arms fortune.

Tragedy befell Sarah – her infant daughter died of a childhood illness and a few years later her husband was taken from her by tuberculosis.

Shortly after her husband’s death, Sarah left their home in New Haven, CT and moved out west to San Jose, CA.  There, she bought an eight-room farmhouse and began what could only be described as the world’s longest home renovation, stopping only when Sarah passed on September 5, 1922.

But what remained is indeed a mystery.   Even before her passing, rumors of a “mystery house” being built by an eccentric and wealthy woman swirled.    Was she instructed to build this home by a psychic? Was she haunted by the ghosts of those felled by the “Gun that Won the West”?  Did construction truly never stop?  What motivated a well-educated socialite to cut herself off from the rest of the world and focus almost solely on building the world’s most beautiful, yet bizarre mansion?

Find out on this episode of Ghost Magnet.

About Jackie Barrett

For more than 26 years, Jackie Barrett has been a psychic medium and author. Her amazing abilities to both communicate with the dead and guide the living have propelled her into the spotlight. She is known throughout the world as America's foremost occult and paranormal expert.

Jackie's remarkable efforts with the Red Cross and the Jackie Barrett Foundation have raised millions of dollars, and her compassion has earned her a great deal of respect, enabling her to help thousands of people from diverse backgrounds. She has clients all over the world, including celebrities in the music and entertainment industries, politicians, socialites, and professional athletes.

Jackie is the most sought after for her unique seances where she allows the guest to directly communicate with the contacted spirit, instead of the traditional seance where only the medium will make contact with the spirit.

She has been issued a captain's badge from now-retired NYC Police Captain Sean Crowley for her work on cold cases. She works with him and her daughter Joanne, who assists her with both cold cases and private clients. Jackie also continues her work with personal clients around the world.

Jackie's latest accomplishment is The Haunting of the Gemini. It's a riveting account of her journey with the New York City Zodiac Killer. After almost two decades of silence, he chooses to speak only with Jackie, and this book tells -- for the first time -- the true extent of his crimes.

The Haunting of the Gemini follows her last book, The Devil I Know, which chronicles her experiences with Amityville murderer Ronnie DeFeo.

About Cory Heinzen

Paranormal investigator Cory Heinzen recently bought the 18th-century house with his wife, Jennifer, and his son, Kyler. The family has been recording their time inside the Rhode Island house, searching for paranormal evidence. You can follow their investigations at @theoldfarmonroundtoproad

About The House

The centuries-old farmhouse located in Harrisville, Rhode Island has been known by many names over the years, including the Dexter Richardson House, the Old Arnold Estate, and Old Brook Farm…You may not recognize it by some of its previous names but it is better know as the former home of the Perron family who experienced intense paranormal activity to the point of needing to call in the help of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Ed and Lorraine felt the presence there was so strong and evil that they needed the church to perform an exorcism. Taking too long to gain approval for the exorcism by the church Ed and Lorraine felt pressured to take matters into their own hands to help the Perron family.  In 2013, a very scary movie called The Conjuring was made about the house, the hauntings, the Perron family and Warrens coming to visit. In June of this year the house was sold to Cory and Jennifer Heinzen…they have only been there a little over a month and are already experiencing paranormal activity.

About Keith Scales, Crescent Hotel Ghost Tour Manager

Author HOUSE OF A HUNDRED ROOMS: Stories the ghost tour guides do not tell by KEITH J. SCALES Tour Manager At the Most Haunted Hotel in America.

Location: the 1886 Crescent Hotel. Characters: ghosts. At the highest point in the Ozark mountains, overlooking a village clustered around a legendary healing spring, towers the famous 1886 Crescent Hotel – long recognized as “the most haunted hotel in America.” The legends of the Lady in White, the Girl in the Mist, the flirtatious Irish stonemason, the unfortunate victims of a charming medical psychopath, little Breckie with his bouncing ball, the little girl who fell through the railings have been repeated for decades, along with many other stories, and are currently told nightly on the Crescent ghost tours. A different kind of ghost story collection. Long-time tour manager Keith J. Scales presents a collection of stories that are not told on the ghost tours and have no basis in fact - invented events that might have occurred when these fascinating individuals were alive, or after they moved on. • A young worker who died during the construction of the Crescent Hotel turns up at Crescent College and Conservatory for Women, thirty years later. • A gangster in fear of his life has been hiding out in the hotel since prohibition. • A student died in a fall from an upper balcony – was it an accident, was she pushed, or did something else occur? • A murdered politician sends a newspaperman to the underground city to find his body. • A woman’s arm appears through a wall in an later decade. • A despicable genius, making his fortune from the misfortunes of others, has reasons to distrust those closest to him. • A secret has kept a man waiting for his beloved for a hundred years. • Two lost children make a home in a huge empty building that is not as deserted as it appears. These stories and others are told at various stops on a ghost tour being given by a weary and somewhat skeptical guide. His guests are unruly, his colleagues seem to vanish one by one and the tour grows more bizarre with every stop on the way. By the end of the night, the stories of ghosts, guides and guests have merged into one, and the tour leader’s doubts are forever dispelled. Actor, director and playwright Keith J. Scales, current manager of tours at the Crescent and Basin Park hotels, is a lifelong student of supernatural legend, lore and literature. In his spare time he has written many novels and short stories, soon to be available on Amazon and Kindle.

About Rob Zabrecky

“Strange Cures” is a punk poem to a forgotten Los Angeles. And like all good poems, its heart is full of tragic beauty. In “Strange Cures,” Rob Zabrecky reminds us that life is what you make of it, and what you make of it is rarely what you dream it to be.  — LA TIMES

About The Haunted Museum

Paranormal enthusiasts visiting Zak Bagans’ The Haunted Museum will venture down creepy winding hallways and secret passages into more than 30 rooms that rival scenes from Hollywood horror films, setting the stage for frightening facts about each paranormal piece such as the Dybbuk Box known as the world’s most haunted object. The vintage wine cabinet inspired the movie “The Possession” and is said to house a malicious spirit. Shortly following its arrival, mysterious protruding holes began to appear in the walls around the artifact as if something was trying to break out from within the exhibit. A Las Vegas marketing executive and Bagans both witnessed a black-cloaked figure pass through the exhibit’s closed door during a private tour. This has also been seen by multiple guests and staff at the museum.

Among the hundreds of terrifying possessions, museum-goers can even peek inside the VW death van in which Dr. Jack Kevorkian ended the suffering of terminally ill patients as well as get a close-up look at the “Propofol chair” from Michael Jackson’s death room.

About Paul W. Papa

Paul W. Papa is an American storyteller who has lived in Las Vegas for more than 20 years (making him practically a native). During that time he developed a love for writing true stories about uncommon events--the tales of America. In his books you will find fascinating stories that are uniquely American, presented in a way that makes them both engaging and informative. Paul's stories are not the typical endless series of facts, figures, and chronologies that tend to make history...well, boring. Instead, he uses words to paint a picture of the past you may never have known existed.

About David Oman

In 1999, David started helping his father build ‘the house’ on Cielo Drive, next to the infamous Sharon Tate Murders aka the Manson Murders – after 2 years of living in the house, Oman created a story based upon his experiences called “House at the End of the Drive." Every floor and every room has spirits and visitors...and some have said that it's almost like a giant spirit party. The Oman house has been on featured on Ghost Hunters, Dead Famous Live, Searching for Satan, My Ghost Story, Haunted History, Ghost Adventures and Paranormal Witness. David and the Oman House have also been featured on Larry King Live, EXTRA and TMZ and CBS News LA.
