Probably the best Marketing in the World with Charlotte Høgh Damgaard from the Carlsberg Group
58:26
In this episode, we sit down with marketing expert Charlotte Høgh Damgaard from the Carlsberg Group and take a deep dive into the complicated world of marketing alcoholic beverages. Charlotte is the Head of Marketing at Carlsberg’s Alcohol-Free Beer, Cider & Cocktails Department in Denmark. She is a marketing specialist with over 8 years of experience working with the Carlsberg Group. Her contributions to the company include communication material and strategy for brands like Guinness, Grinbergen, and Kronenberg. Here's what you'll learn: How does an alcohol brand balance selling to bars, restaurants and events and selling to the consumer?
Carlsberg is the world’s largest brewing company, with a presence in over 150 markets worldwide, and over 50% market share in Denmark. A beverage company at this scale has its own unique challenges, including country-specific regulations and limited access to certain media channels. Carlsberg’s core values demand that promoting alcohol has to come with the caveat of responsible consumption. The company sells to retailers but markets to end consumers, which puts them in a difficult spot when it comes to communication strategies. Their selection of products includes soft drinks, ciders, cocktails, and most importantly: beers. Useful links |

Changing brand reputation with Mila Hvilshøj, the Marketing Manager at Domino's
40:47
Mila Hvilshøj, Domino’s Pizza Danmark’s Chief Marketing Officer sat down with us to talk about the unconventional campaign Domino’s launched to tackle a rather difficult problem they have been facing for years. Domino’s Pizza is an American brand with over 18000 stores worldwide. They deliver pizza since the 1960s, and they do so while thriving for operational excellence. In Denmark, there are currently 26 stores, but they have the ambition to open up another 74 by 2030. Prior to the current franchise attempt in Denmark, another Domino’s initiative have already failed and went bankrupt in the country, leaving a sour taste in the mouths of the public. The new team, therefore, arrived in Denmark with a pre-existing stigma on the brand’s name. Mila explains the strategy behind their recent campaign that addressed the unfortunate reality the brand faced in the local market, which tainted their brand image ever since. They chose to address their predecessor’s incompetence by launching a communication campaign nationwide, in an attempt to start with a clean slate and finally change the public perception of the brand. What's next for Twitter? | Social Media Sucks Podcast

Twitter is unique, for reasons good and bad. But one thing's for sure: It's here to stay, at least in some form. That said, is it a platform in need of a rethink and a makeover? Is the endless stream of text-heavy tweets disorientating and exhausting? Is more original video content from users going to make it a more interesting platform? Was ousting Trump a mistake or the only available move? And has Facebook somehow begun to embody the "punchbag" image that used to haunt Twitter? So much depends on locating, recognizing, attracting, nourishing, and retaining talent – for businesses and companies across the board. At the same time, it is one of the hardest things to do – and almost impossible to do well. To make us all a whole lot smarter about the complex dynamics and role of talent in corporate life, we invited the Founder and Owner of FutureTalent.dk Caroline Sehested on the podcast. Caroline is well-known for her work in talent innovation and with TEDxCopenhagen. Dig into this one if you’re interested in the nature and value of talent, recruitment, talent acquisition, and retention creating a great corporate culture, social media, alternatives to standard job interviews, employee branding, what NOT to post on social media, and much more. Letting others lead: thoughts on “Jack” stepping down as CEO of Twitter | Social Media Sucks Podcast |
12:39
Co-founder of Twitter Jack Dorsey has stepped down as CEO of the company. But what is the significance of such a move – for Twitter, and for tech platforms generally? Is a company somehow halted or impeded by a founder unwilling or unable to let go and pass the reins of power to the next generation of leaders? Should Mark Zuckerberg take a leaf out of Jack’s book, or is Zuck’s resignation somehow way overdue and too late to be useful? All this and more on this episode of the Social Media Sucks podcast. LinkedIn – and what needs to happen for it to be a great platform | Social Media Sucks Podcast |
22:53
It’s hard to imagine a world without LinkedIn. But is the social network letting itself down by allowing certain functions to be unnecessarily complicated and user-unfriendly? In this episode of the Social Media Sucks podcast we discuss the role of LinkedIn in the social media space. We compare “connect” versus “follow” mode, assess the newsletter feature, share best practice insights for going live and even pitch a brand-new idea that we think LinkedIn ought to implement. Out-of-home advertising and the significance of outdoor spaces | Social Media Sucks Podcast |
14:59
Billboards, wallscapes, place-based media, and posters seen while on the go… All are examples of out-of-home advertising. In this episode we zero in on this unique type of advertising while also exploring the shifting significance of simply being outside in the age of the coronavirus. How have nationwide lockdowns affected our relationship with ads? What non-digital trends are worth noting in this context? How are social media and out-of-home advertising related? And what about those “100 m to this location” signs? – effective advertising or sloppy copy? TV and social media – what they are and where they’re going | Social Media Sucks Podcast |
20:24
TV has been around for a LONG time… But is the medium obsolete? And why isn’t at least flow TV going away when we’ve got so many cool new social media platforms to throw our eyeballs at? Is TV in fact so powerful that it’s going to keep attracting SoMe platforms – like TikTok most recently or YouTube a while ago? That’s on the agenda for this episode where we also discuss a household gadget that strangely doesn’t seem designed for humans… And those guys building mud houses in the jungle (Facebook TV reference). Audio – and what it means for social media | Social Media Sucks Podcast |
14:53
Use this sound! "Sound first" social-media platforms are taking over. But are brands and marketeers ready to sing along? Up until very recently, we expected people to scroll with the sound off. But the script has flipped and now sound has become the key to audience's attention. In this week's episode, we dive into how platforms like TikTok have changed the SoMe landscape, the masive potential for brands and the music industry, and how to make audio and visuals exist in sweet harmony. What it's like to be a marketer (or consumer) in the age of cookies
14:57
What does it mean to be a consumer or a marketer in the age of cookies, algorithms, transparency policies and GDPR? That’s what we’re here to discuss today. That takes us through a bunch of interesting questions such as: How has leveraging data for marketing purposes become harder? Why would anyone ever allow having their data sold – or object to it, for that matter? Exactly what kind of hot water do Facebook and Amazon find themselves in with data? Is retargeting soon going to be a thing of the past? What’s going on with Apple? WTF is Clubhouse and why it matters?
37:09
Clubhouse is a social media platform for people of all industries. Unlike other platforms that require you to stare at a screen, the Clubhouse app is 100% voice-based. Aside from the moderator’s job of keeping speakers organised, you can use Clubhouse more passively than other social media platforms. The first question that comes to everyone’s mind is probably something like “why Clubhouse when I can just use Zoom without video?” Clubhouse is supposed to be impromptu. You can schedule active room times, but Clubhouse wants to break away from the more formal nature of apps like Zoom with more free-flowing conversations.
